We go to a couple of different Pinecrest Bakeries in Miami, so we were anxious to try the Key Largo bakery to compare. It was very similar to ours. Most of the ladies who work there do not speak English just like in Miami, but there is always one who speaks a little English and if you can speak a little Espanol and point to what you want, you will get what you came there for. Our server was friendly and helped us get our favorite guava pastries. Their prices are very reasonable here. They were fresh baked and smelled so good! They also have Cuban coffee, iced and hot. They make delicious cakes and donuts. And the favorite there is the Cuban Sandwich, which is generously filled with ham, shredded pork, pickle, cheese and crusty bread. They also have pastelitos and croquettas. Parking is right in front of the super cute casa restaurant. There is outdoor dining and a few tables inside also. They have a drive-in also. It is clean and nicely decorated. We will go back next trip. read more

Whoa big disappointment, not with the food because we never got that far, there were a few customers sitting at the tables inside tapping their feet waiting on their orders, the outside completely empty and a car parked in the drive-through for who knows how long. NOT WORTH THE HYPE. This place is completely disorganized. My hubs and I stopped in here for breakfast and walked into a madhouse. Cool, it's popular, must be good. They had a number station to pull a number from so we pulled a number and stood out of the way of the door as more people were coming into the restaurant. The place was busy. 5 minutes later we notice they aren't calling numbers and seem to be just randomly helping people with no real system in place. I asked an employee what the deal was and she said they weren't using the number system today so we went to the back of the unorganized "line" and lost our place in line which was frustrating. Subsequently we saw a LOT of cars moving through the drive thru so I am guessing they put more effort into getting cars through than they do the people in the actual lobby. Anyway, I ordered a monte cristo and my husband ordered a breakfast sandwich. It took 20 minutes to get our food. My monte cristo was cold, not warm like they are usually served. It was not served with the perfunctory jam so I asked for some and they said they don't serve jam. WTF. I have had LOTs of monte cristo sandwiches in my life and have neve had one cold or without jam. Its like serving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with no jelly and over noodles instead of bread. My husbands breakfast burrito was bland and meh. We decided to give the place another chance since it had high ratings and went back a few days later in the evening for dessert. My husband had oreo cheesecake which was dry, bland, and tasted like sugar without any cream or cheese. I had the neopolitan bar which tasted old and stale. Their desserts are not labeled so you have no idea what you are ordering. I asked an employee what a few things were but she seemed annoyed having to explain what they were. Staff seemed impatient, borderline rude, and had a "take it or leave it" attitude. I mispronounced the name of one of their menu items and the gal working openly made fun of me and made a weird face like I was an idiot. This place is also NOT open 24 hours as the sign indicates. Bro. I walked into Pinecrest Bakery expecting to be spiritually fed. Instead, I left linguistically confused, financially violated, and emotionally limp. None of the pastries are labeled. It's like a culinary roulette wheel with zero instructions and everyone behind you breathing down your neck like you're holding up TSA. I got to the front, made eye contact with the lady behind the counter, opened my mouth--and was promptly ignored like a broke man in a Lambo dealership. Five minutes of standing there raw, unacknowledged, questioning every life choice that led me to this fluorescent-lit fever dream. The worst part? It looked good. Like "shut up and take my money" good. Problem is my white ass could only identify maybe two pastries, and neither of them were what I wanted. But I panicked and went with the Cubano, a slice of Oreo cake, some carrot cake, and two mini carrot cupcakes for the homie and I to split. Got in the car, ready to devour... and holy shit. In my research for my trip to the Keys this place was one I found several times and saw good reviews, so I marked it and was ready to try it out. From the outside, Pinecrest looks so cute and nice and there's a little outdoor patio to sit in, but as soon as I walked in it felt different. They were playing music really, really loud, so it was difficult to even talk to someone because it's hard to hear them speak let alone yourself. The desserts in the display case all looked wonderfully delicious, so we got the chocolate mousse and a guava flavored cake. But, we stood waiting for someone to help us for probably close to 10 minutes. There were plenty of workers, just none of them would come over to us and so I was feeling a rude vibe already from that. Then, the lady who finally helped us was just really unfriendly and barely spoke (which I guess with how loud the music was maybe it didn't matter anyways), but I was really unimpressed with the service overall. And when we tried the desserts, I mean they were okay but they really weren't anything special. Next time I'll just go to Mrs Mac's next door.
