We were driving north from Key West to Miami and I tell my wife, we can't live the Keys without having lobster. We stopped at the Lazy Lobster and ordered the lobster roll. There were so many great looking dishes but we had a great breakfast at our Airbnb and were not really very hungry. We did share the Lazy Lobster roll with black beans and rice. Oh, BTW, that garlic butter sauce goes a long way. Dip it sparingly. The service was great and the waitress was super sweet. Good to learn that the owners are from Jalisco, my dad's home town. Wow! Wow! Wow! Did I say wow? This place is absolutely amazing. I had the Florida lobster roll and it was fantastic. Would drive the 90 minutes at least a few times a week just to eat here. What can I say?? Everything was above 5 stars. We went in the first time after our visit to John Pennekamp as it is across the street. Javier's service was excellent. We had Hog Fish plate and Shrimp Rosada. Amazing! And the kids had a variety of items and loved them all. Then we returned on Saturday (Jennifer was our amazing sever) on our way home with our daughter and son in law who had another amazing meal. Hands down the best meals we ate in the Keys both times. This time we ate Hog Fish plate, Hog Fish Sandwich, Grouper sandwich and Coconut Shrimp. Can't wait to go back! On your way in or out of the Keys you have to stop! read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat down here and come back every time. I would give it a 4.5. Menu is very extensive so there is something for everyone. Lobster is their speciality but tonight we both had lobster and had to use a knife to really saw through the meat. It was quite tough. Still very flavorful. The shrimp and scallops with the meal were delish and cooked perfectly though. To pay that much, it was just a little disappointing. Service was good. The banana bread to start is soo good! Finally decided to have an early dinner at one of the iconic restaurants in the upper keys. The backyard is large with plenty of fans to keep you comfortable as you dine. Tables are spaced well and there are plenty of island decorations. The food is island inspired with many lobster and seafood selections. Just like other local restaurants, they cook your catch. Disappointing Experience at Lazy Lobster My husband and I have been to Lazy Lobster a couple of times for lunch when we are driving down to the Keys, and we have always enjoyed stopping there. We live in Fort Myers, and the Keys are a great getaway for us. We were in Key Largo this past weekend specifically looking for places to eat and enjoy when we return in October with our family. There will be 11 of us, so we were hoping to find restaurants that would be a good fit for everyone. Unfortunately, after our dinner experience this weekend, Lazy Lobster will not be one of them. We sat outside and were waited on by Lenic P (his name was on our receipt). When he first came over, he asked if we wanted something to drink. I told him we had just sat down and wanted to look at the menu. He came back shortly afterward and asked if we were ready to order. I asked about the "Catch the Lazy Way" and specifically what kind of fish was available. He told me we could choose mahi-mahi, hogfish, or yellowtail. I chose hogfish and my husband chose mahi-mahi. He explained that each came with a side, so I asked what the side options were. We chose loaded baked potatoes. At no point were we told that choosing hogfish would result in a $17 upcharge or that the baked potato would cost an additional $1.50. The $17 upcharge appeared on my bill after the meal. That is went under a hogfish entree and my husband's was under catch lazy style. Two different dinners! Had I been told about the additional charge when I asked about the fish options, I could have made an informed decision. I may still have chosen the hogfish, but that should have been my choice--not something I discovered when the bill arrived. The service was also disappointing. After taking our order, Lenic never came back to ask if we wanted another drink, an appetizer, or anything else. We had only water throughout the meal. Meanwhile, a table of eight arrived, and he also waited on them. He immediately asked them what they wanted to drink, whether they wanted appetizers, and returned to take care of their table several times. When our food arrived, he briefly stopped by and asked if everything came out okay. We said yes, although by that point I was already unhappy with the service we were receiving. Shortly afterward, he brought our check. What makes this especially disappointing is that we would have likely ordered additional drinks and possibly dessert if we had received the same level of attention and service. Instead, we left feeling overlooked and unhappy. I also have an issue with the expectation of an 18-25% tip when the service does not meet that standard. A tip is earned through good service, and every customer should be treated with the same level of attention regardless of whether they are a party of two or a party of eight. If there are additional charges for particular fish selections or sides, customers should be clearly informed before ordering. When a customer is asking questions about menu options, that is the perfect opportunity to explain any additional costs. We were genuinely looking forward to finding restaurants to bring our family to in October. Unfortunately, after this experience, Lazy Lobster will not be on our list. We also cannot recommend it to friends and family based on the way our dinner was handled. It wasn't the $17 charge itself that upset me as much as the lack of transparency and the poor service. Customers deserve to know what they are ordering and what it will cost before they make that decision. read more

We Because we were so happy with our lunch we went back for dinner a couple of days later. The service was very good, our server recognized us from our lunch visit. I had the Whole Fried Yellow Tail Snapper and baked potato. The fish was excellent, nicely fried and a nice size. I also had an Old Fashioned and it was excellent as well. Our server Javier was amazing. He was kind and fast and gave great recommendations. We shared the jalapeño lobster poppers, escargot and lobster mac 'n cheese. The escargot was a unique presentation in a small raised dish with a blanket of cheese covering it. The mac 'n cheese was served over a full butterflied lobster. After so many years coming to the Keys, this was our first visit to The Lazy Lobster and I can't believe we waited this long! As soon as we sat down, they welcomed us with a delicious warm banana bread. We came in as a family of 6, and our waiter, Javier, was incredible. Patient, attentive, and spot-on with his recommendations. He even split our entrée for us since it was shareable, which made dining so easy. For starters, we ordered the Kaboom Shrimp, about five generously sized shrimp with a touch of coleslaw. Absolutely delicious. The homemade mozzarella sticks with marinara were some of the best we've ever had perfectly cheesy and not greasy at all. For mains, the Lobster Matecumbe was shared between two. Such a perfect shareable plate served over linguini. The lobster was tender and perfectly cooked. The tomato-caper sauce was so flavorful and they even brought us extra sauce on the side. The sauce would also be perfect to add to a toasty baguette. We also tried the Lobster Thermidor, rich and creamy, and the sauce paired perfectly with white rice. Beyond the food, every staff member we interacted with was friendly and clearly worked well as a team. Toward the end, the manager stopped by to ask how everything was which shows they genuinely care. If you're in the Keys, don't wait years like we did , go now. You won't regret it! My husband had a margarita with a Grand Marnier floater that he said was great! Our waitress was very attentive and explained the subtle differences in the sauces for the dishes I was looking at selecting. Extremely helpful and friendly, I think her name was Elise (from Belize)! We were seated on the patio, which was really nicely done to create a beautiful, but relaxed atmosphere.
