I randomly stumbled upon High Treason while walking along Clement. The place is decorated with big art on high ceilings and a cool wine crate wall. I enjoyed how they were spinning vinyl records and had some displayed by the bar. It's the kind of spot you can hang out in for a while without feeling rushed. I also love that they have a section where you can browse and purchase vinyl. Fun fact: during the daytime, the space operates as a café called NRG, which makes it a versatile spot to check out anytime. They offer more than just wine too, with food options and non-alcoholic beverages available. I didn't get a chance to try the food this time, but I'll definitely be back for it. Fun wine bar in the area! I stopped by on a Saturday around 7 with a friend and there was still plenty of seating. Service can be a little slow because the employees behind the bar are also taking your order at your seat. My friend and I got the Unco Frank's pupu platter and definitely was enough for a full meal for us two. My friend is from Hawaii and gave it her stamp of approval. High Treason may have been the coldest wine bar I've ever been in but that was just the ambient temperature. The vibes they gave off? Friendly, approachable, and responsive. In a nutshell, perfect. With the pedigrees of its founders. High Treason sports a wine list that'll bring joy to oenophiles. When my son, who is one, swirled and sniffed my glass of Vinca Minor Zin ($12) his "wow!" said it all; the wine was giving off scents both heady and impressive. A lot could've been done to make the interior warmer in both feel and looks but what's been done seems to work for the neighborhood. Early in the evening there were lots of solo patrons enjoying a glass of something while reading and this felt like an environment that well supports the solo patron. While you drink and read (and maybe eat), your server is, all the while, spinning an amazing array of vinyl that, at least at my table, had one repeatedly pulling up Shazam before he finally succumbed and just asked the server who was playing. High Treason features the food of Unco Frank's which is an unexpected bonus (and the subject of another yelp review). But try it so you'll regret nothing. Finally, as if reading my mind after mentioning the chilly, drafty space in which I'd sat myself, our server helped move us out of the draft then returned with rechargeable hand warmers for our use. The knowledgeable and chill bartender told me all the kombucha had been '86ed' due to a bad batch, and then I found korean rice beer on the menu. When have the koreans ever gone wrong with rice, I thought, as I started dreaming of that delicious charred rice you find at the bottom of bbq bowls. Anyway so I was a little bummed when she brought out a can and started pouring it into a glass (idk why I was expecting this to be brewed in-house like some fancy sake or soju brewery but cans never promote much confidence ya know?). I needn't have worried, it was 170 calories of deliciousness in the fancy glass I usually associate with sours. It wasn't overly sweet, and I could taste the rice. It reminded me of amazake a little. The can was only like $7 which for SF is quite cheap too. Gonna need a 6 pack of those. read more

We focussed on wine. While the international diversity was cool...the wine choices(after tasting) were meh. We went with a Spanish and a mendocino red. The food is by pop up...this time a Hawaiian place Uncle Leo. The food was good...not so great with wine. The panko shrimp were tasty , fried rice salty and the edamame with garlic a bit mushy. Excellent wine bar - more calm and sleek in style than homey or is it Homie! I've been here a few times and it is a place to go with people, the staff was semi-talkative, very calm dispositions in a serene atmosphere. We had a group of 4, Bobby J, The Saint (he really is), Sammie, and myself - we shared several bottles. One was a White Bordeaux, Cuvee des Conti, and Wow, it was delicious, beautiful subtle complexities in a well structured wine (Sauvignon Blanc / Semillion blend). Then we got into a domestic GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend made in Rhone style but made in U.S.) Not sure if you want all of that description but another excellent selection. I personally loved the art that adorned the walls and above the bar itself is this really cool conglomerate of wooden wine boxes. The really great wines come in these kinds of boxes. When you're buying for a high end restaurant you have too many of these boxes which should be used in an art form. Also enjoyed several food items, the truffle oiled popcorn was outstanding - so much flavor. And we all enjoyed the various tapas that were available, I think we ordered most of what was on the menu - that wine makes ya hungry.
