lovely wine bar in cole valley -- there's lots of outdoor seating. they have happy hours everyday, but we got the tortiglioni and gabagool pinsa. the pasta's al dente texture was good but other than that it was pretty basic, and the guanciale was pretty salty. I liked the gabagool pinsa slightly more but its crust was pretty thick and seems a bit fermented. in general the dishes are pretty expensive (pushing $30 each) for what they are, but the ambiance and staff are great! read more

Came here for date night thanks to the new Amex Platinum Resy benefit, and it was such a great find. Cozy atmosphere, great service, and everything we ordered hit the mark. We had the meatballs, Rigatoni All'Amatriciana, Brussels sprouts, and a pesto pasta. The meatballs were tender with just the right amount of sauce, and the Rigatoni had that perfect balance of heat and richness. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful, and the pesto pasta was fresh and bright without being heavy. Unlike on race day, this time we came correct, with a reservation, and dressed the part for a night on the town. We were welcomed in by the staff and seated at our table. What we ordered: *Robiola 2 Latti cheese *Smoked oysters (2 orders) *Pesto pasta *Gnocchi All the food was absolutely delicious. The cheese is one of the best soft cheeses I've had. And I could eat that pesto pasta for three meals a day. I wish we had had dessert, but we were too satiated at that point. Next time. We've had their tiramisu before, and it is amazing. As far as the vino, I am entirely unfamiliar with Italian wines, but the staff is happy to make suggestions and let you taste until you find something you're happy with. After trying a few different wines, my partner and I settled on a couple of reds that we liked. As always, when we're enjoying a restaurant, we take our time. I got pasta and also and some of the pinsa (Roman style pizza). Also had the meatballs. Everything was just so so. The pizza almost tasted stale - someone mentioned it is supposed to be like that but I've had pinsa a few times and that was not my experience. The pasta was pretty good - a red sauce. Nothing special. Meatballs also solid. Somehow my pasta came up 12-15 mins after everything else's food which was entirely confusing but oh well. The wine was good. I recently came here on a Sunday evening with some work colleagues and we split a little bit of everything - they were out of prosciutto, which we originally wanted to order a pizza with it - but everything we did try was remarkable! Previous review had way to much Bay to Breakers comments. This one is more about the place. Another fantastic experience at Inovino. We arrived minutes before our reservation time and were promptly seated. We both started with the Ribolla Gialla Proseco for drinks and the tinned fish smoked oysters along with the Robiola 2 Latti cheese. We have had this cheese before and it is rememberable, hence, we had it again. Next up the Fusliil Al Pesto Genovese. My partner went with the Moscato wine while I hung out with the Sangiovese. The oysters were so good we did them again along with the Gnocchi Al Porcini e Spinaci. Again, we have had this before and here we are again. The wine selection changes here a lot so what you get tonight may not be here next month. The service is quick and friendly. Inside seats about 24 with an extra 4 at the bar. Outside there are about 14 seats. Dress accordingly for outside 'cause it does get cold. I think lots of neighborhood peoples converge on this spot. Stopped in after work for birthday celebrations with friends. As many times as I've been by over the years I hadn't been in. We got seated right away and it's really cute inside. It's cozy and intimate and has outdoor seating as well. Eric was our server and helpful with questions, friendly, and even brought out a bday dessert! The time before last, server tried to convince me that sediment was normal in sparking wine when I was served a disgusting glass of wine with brown crap in it. The owner was delightful and intervened so we thought all was well. Our next visit, same server who ignored us for over 15 min even though there was another server as well, and only 3 tables, one of which who had already ordered. (This is a super tiny place with 4 tables for 2outside and may be 5-6 table s inside.it's a wine bar with a limited menu) She literally sneered at us "so you want dinner?" And took another 5 min to get us menus. I asked if she had a problem with us which she denied and became slightly more friendly.. However when she took our order she kept repeating;g the wrong items to the point that I showed her exactly on the menu what we wanted. The pasta was correct after I literally pointed to the menu item I was ordering. I did the same with the pizza - salciccia e broccolini which she repeated. What we got was pepperoni. This is a local favorite for my wife and I. Their happy hour is great. Always new interesting wines to try. The margarita pizza is not your typical margarita pizza. It's thicker and rectangular. But still delicious. We usually get the herbed almonds. I like the pickled vegetables too. All are on the happy hour menu. The service is VERY nice. The place is tiny inside, but romantic. After living in Cole Valley on and off for 20 plus years for years I have promoting this neighborhood place for friends as a destination in Cole valley for their wonderful wine list and food. However my most two recent interactions with the service manager has put such a bad taste in my mouth. I am not entirely sure why this person is in charge of front of the house with such appalling attitude and rudeness. Always a bit snippy, never friendly and most recently just outright rude. Recently when I asked if there was a table available even though there were several empty tables his response was no. And when I asked "is there a wait list" his response was "not that I know of". Just plain rude. Being that I still want to support this location business I asked how I would find out if there would be tables available and his response was "come back and check if you want to later". I came during one of their happy hours and it did not disappoint. As an aside, the hours of operation for their happy hour are very generous. The owner was very friendly and despite being one of two people in there when I visited, he was open to make conversation with anyone interested. I came to finish off my work but unfortunately they do not have wifi. This wasn't a huge issue though because the ambiance more than made up for it. The interior is moody, warm, and transports you out of San Francisco. A book would have made a perfect pairing, not a computer, for the setting. The food and wine were also amazing. The pizza I ordered was light and delicious with the beer crust on a pizza I've ever had. Was very excited to try this place out due to the great reviews but I was underwhelmed. I would give it a 3.5/5. Ambiance - cure and romantic, dimly lit. However it is so small inside and the tables are placed very close together, making it tough to hear each other. It was also incredibly hot and stuffy when we went during the winter. Service - friendly and warm staff Food - we got the persimmon salad which was delicious; the broccolini was fresh and tasty, the red sauce pasta was good but nothing to rave about, and i personally would skip the pizzas (which were more like large fluffy flatbreads). Food was decent, but nothing special. Wine - i tried three different wines that were all recommended (a pinot noir, blend, and cab) but unfortunately didn't love any of them. The okay: The lamb pasta where was pretty good and had a really chewy noodle which I really liked. The lamb itself wasn't the best I've had. They have an extensive wine list and delicious, authentic Italian food (my favorites so far have been the charcuterie board and the Rigatoni all'Amatriciana). My low score review is about the service and the environment! I think we didn't receive a good service because our waiter, even though he was Italian like me, he was very disconnected and didn't take care of me and my friends very well (he never checked on us if everything was ok, he didn't serve us water when we didn't have it...)!
