I went to Higher Taste for lunch after class this past Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the flavors and textures of my appetizers. I ordered the potato taco which had a fabulous crunch and a perfectly delicious chipotle ( ? ) dipping sauce on the side. The taco itself wasn't very flavorful but I think it's perfectly fine because the sauce carries more than enough. I also ordered the vegan fried chicken and I was so intrigued by the flavor. They had a notable buttery taste to them which was rich and pleasant. I believe they were coated with a cornflake cereal which gave them a proper crunch. The hibiscus drink was a tad thicker than I expected and wished it had a more balanced flavor ( sweetness : tartness ), but it wasn't a bad drink by any means. Definitely one to drink cold. I let mine sit for a bit and I think that affected the tasting experience. & Service is genuinely chill which I respect and prefer. No need to perform. I'm just there to eat! & You order by yourself on a tablet too. It's really my kind of vibe. read more

Sadly I was not impressed with this restaurant. It's a beautiful interior, but the food was underwhelming and the wait was longer than I anticipated. When I entered there were already 3 other groups seated. I didn't realize until after I ordered at the kiosk (there is no wait staff) that no one had any food. We ordered the Caesar salad & wrap as well as fries and a cookie. It took about 30 to 40 minutes for the first salad to arrive and about 15 minutes after that for the wrap which was made with ingredients we had asked to omit. Weirdly, the wrap came with avocado slices on the side instead of inside of the wrap which was very strange. The French fries came a few minutes after the wrap and they had the consistency of a wet noodle covered in oil with little to no seasoning. The salad and wrap were OK taste-wise but I could have easily made a better salad at home. The fried chicken that comes with it was mushy and served cold. The cookie was fine, good large size and a lot of chocolate chips which was nice. But again, I could have made myself a better cookie at home. Higher Taste is 100% Vegan! I got the Ahimsa Burger and my parents and I shared a peanut butter cookie. The cookie stole the show- I could not believe how GOOD it was. The burger was good too, and I was impressed by the quality bread! Some part of the burger tasted like it had mint in it, which was odd, and unique, but it worked! So food was definitely a 5/5!!!! The one worker we saw was doing a great job helping everyone out. It is also self-order on an iPad, but she was able to come out and answer an ingredient question we had. I'm not sure why, but despite ordering "for here" (eating in) we were still served single use plates/bowls/cups/utensils/napkins. That was a bummer because it's so wasteful! It was extremely hot inside too, I honestly thought I was getting a fever until I commented on the temperature and my family said it was really hot too. As soon as we stepped outside, the outside temperature was much cooler! I wish the decorative plants were real, they were very obviously fake. We live in LA but were in Long Beach for a concert and were very happy we landed at Higher Taste. The Ahimsa burger was incredibly delicious! We also shared the Thai Temple Bowl which was also delicious. I don't know how they make that tofu but we loved it. That was plenty of food for 2 people, but then we got a raw cinnamon roll and it was very strange but very tasty. The ordering was lengthy as each of us had to order from the one digital pad and people were waiting to get to the one pad which is a little.....annoying, I hate to say. We rang the bell and yelled to get a person out in front to answer questions and she was super nice, and delivered our food timely and nicely. I get that they need to keep overhead down, but ordering from a real person is so much more engaging and enjoyable and everybody knows that the experience counts a lot. read more

Food is a 10 out of 10. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had and the jalapeño avocado burger, which is maybe the best burger I've ever had. The food is insanely good here. The service is nonexistent because there's only one person in about making food we tried calling and no one picks up. You have to order to the app and told us it would take an hour for the food to be made, but I didn't end up being true. It was only 30 minutes and when we got there, they don't know where to take as long, but I think the app needs to be more accurate because we were upset when we read that it would take an hour anyways the food here makes up for it highly recommended. My daughter and I received our crunchwrap supremes about 15 minutes after our dining companion, who had ordered after us, received her food. She had to ask for her drink in order to get it. Really bright and charming spot for a laidback meal. We had the spicy ranch chikn burger which was very filling, but i would recommend getting it with no cheese as it is a bit overpowering (this coming from someone who loves cheese). The crunchwrap supreme was so crispy and textural, bursting with flavor. The tortilla chips were fresh and cripsy and the accompanying sauce was spicy like chipotle, but thicker. A delicious vegan restaurant with lots of seating inside. Self-serve water station and easy to order electronic system at the counter. Of course you can always ask one of the employees if you have any questions about the menu. The food is (still) great and the Vietnamese Spring Rolls are still my fav! Crunchy and fresh. I just love the freshness of the vegetables. The Thai peanut sauce is a great accompaniment. Arrived at about 5:00pm on Friday 2/6/2026 to a solemn little quaint dinner. Upon entering there was no Bell entry or person (s) to greet us. Just a Wall and a Counter Menu and a TOUCH SCREEN for self ordering that shows excellent pics of entire menu. I ordered the following: Cacao Dream Chik'n Caesar Wrap Gingermint Lemonade Tropical Sunrise All items were pretty good and I probably would go back again. I just think that the COLD ENVIRONMENT/ Customer Service , no warm music needs to change. Got the 'Purple Dragon' to-go and was disappointed it didn't have goji berries as mentioned in the menu, which was the primary reason I ordered it. Toppings were light for the price. This place has been kicking around in my Yelp bookmarks for many many many years, but all the bookmarks (To Do and To Review) used to be in the same place, so I didn't visit for the first time until last year sometime. My first impression: I hadn't seen this much macramé since the early '80s! What's next? Fern bars and tube tops? My second impression: Either someone over-watered a potted plant near the entrance, or the pot was cracked. In either case, there was a puddle of water flowing from the pot into the path of the doorway. We were here for a good forty-five minutes, and during that time. . . My third impression: None of the staff did a thing to clean up the water and possibly prevent a slip-and-fall and potentially costly personal-injury lawsuit. My general impression of the staff here was about one-and-and-a-half stars. There were a lot of them standing around talking to one another rather than doing work or at least looking busy. They were friendly enough when it mattered to them to interact with customers, but it didn't seem to matter to them very often. My fourth impression: The food took forever. My fifth impression: The food was very good. Not worth the wait or the annoyingly checked-out staff, but definitely good. Like 4.25-stars good. And that's all I've got for impressions. It's a lovely, airy space with nice big windows, but it's also on the south side of the street, so all those windows face north, which negates about 78 percent of those windows' effectiveness as light distributors. This seems like an ideal place for laptop camping, but they don't have enough tables--or electrical outlets, now that I think of it--to make it worth it when they're busy. Are they ever busy? I guess. I believe we came on a Saturday afternoon between lunch and dinner, and it was pretty quiet. Would I drive all the way back here? I doubt it, especially with a Seabirds location in Long Beach, but it does look like a fun neighborhood to live in, and if I lived nearby, I definitely would spend all kinds of time here reading. She recommended the Hemp Kale Bowl and I'm so glad I got it! It was definitely hearty and filled with some great plant powered protein. I particularly loved the combination of the hemp and tempeh. The sauce was so creamy and had a lovely taste coming from the ginger. I'm honestly not the biggest veggies fan, but I liked how well everything was seasoned and cooked. The inside was boho chic: exposed brick, rattan lampshades, plants strategically placed, a few seating choices and concrete floors. Inside, the physical temperature was pretty warm but I liked that. The whole vibe gave me a vacation in a back woods restaurant after a short hike kind of feel. But (there's always a but), where was the customer service? I walked in and there was no one at the counter. Self service is the trend now, so I typed out my order on the keypad and ordered it to go. Eventually someone came from the back. I still was not greeted. About 10 minutes passed and my food was presented to me in a brown paper bag, smelling delectable and hot! (That was the only time I had human interaction). I had the chance to try Higher Taste Plant-based after a long day of work and found myself impressed by the quality of the food and the ambiance of this restaurant. I discovered this spot after a quick Yelp review of local plant-based spots to eat at! So (PB), another colleague (PB), and an additional colleague who had never eaten an entire plant-based meal thought we would come through to check it out! I love the ambiance of this spot. It was clean and spacious. We were able to engage in an intimate discussion and get to know one another because of this comfy environment. As soon as we arrived, we were met with excellent customer service! The person who took our order was knowledgeable and passionate about the food offered at the restaurant, which was indeed refreshing. After a long day of work, we ordered a variety of food options and shared. I got to try the following: Mozzarella sticks, Ahimsa burger, Buffalo wrap, and chikkn tenders. First time in here and won't be my last if I'm in there area and looking for some vegan food however it won't be my GO TO option. The environment was very colorful, zen and welcoming. I enjoyed that. The employees all had smiles and were really friendly. The place was fairly clean and organized. The tenders were honestly some of my favorite vegan tenders, they were crispy on the outside but super soft on the inside and didn't taste like beyond or impossible meat. It's the best I've ever had and when we're talking about the barbecue sauce. It is on another level. The burger was lackluster, very grainy, drying and lacked flavor. My son didn't wanna eat it and after I took a bite of it I understood why. Although I love how it came with mushrooms and the gluten-free bread was so fluffy and yummy so it's not all too bad. Would def not order it again. The fries were pretty good, but extremely thin they reminded me of Shake shack fries. A little oily. No, the star of the show are the desserts because they deserving of a mention. We grabbed the strawberry cheesecake and a cacao and peanut butter that reminded me of Reese's pieces. 10 out of 10 would recommend to everybody. We ended up getting their cookies too and again 10/10! Not too sweet which I love and all made from scratch! If you don't come in for anything, the least you can do is buy a desert they're that good! Mentioned earlier, but the wait times are the main reason why I rated it at four and really wanted it to be a three, but I understand things happen and they did look a little short staffed at the moment. For a burger and fries and desserts that were already made in the fridge. It took us about 35-40 minutes to get our food. I'm a patient man but not everybody else so keep that in mind when you are ordering here it sounds like it's best to order ahead of time then to just walk in and order like we did also be mindful if you have smaller children who aren't as patient. Higher Taste... Is practically HIGHEST in flavor + flava and freshness. I strolled in on a date with this cool quirky vegetarian who has been here a handful of times. He hadn't tried everything, but raved about the vibe here... very bohemian with well spaced seating, rustic chic earth tones, beautiful art and live plants. The menu is drawn in. chalk above, but they also have a laminated menu at the counter... Take your time, then order here for there or to go. You'll get a number and can pick where ever you like including some limited seating outside. I wanted to try everything, but figured a burger and and shareable appetizer were great choices. We got the Vietnamese Spring Rolls (huge and loaded with veggies) with this amazing peanut sauce I'd buy a bottle of that had some hints of citrus/tangy bliss I was a fan of and even got a drop on my shirt lol very sexy move. As we were splitting the last roll (you get three) our burgers came out. I had the BBQ Bacon Beyond and he had the Orange CHIK'N Burger. That Chik'n Burger was THICK, but the Beyond in comparison was a bit flat... I could of been down with some red onions in the mix if offered. Can never have too many veggies in my book. I didn't realized they used all paper goods (biodegradable for the win) as well as those pre-packaged plastic utensils until we had all our food on the table. It definitely helps cut down on water waste, so I can respect that. Overall... All food was enjoyed and the slaw was a-okay. I personally didn't feel like it was a great pairing with sandwiches/burgers, but your options for choice sides (included) are coleslaw, side salad or upgrading for fries including regular or sweet potato (which I would say is the best way to go). Their coleslaw would be great on certain sandwiches or burgers more than a side option. And they had so many options like bowls, nachos, wraps, smoothies, plus desserts, self serve water, teas & milk teas, lemonades... Not to mention shakes!! As the self deemed best organic vegan eats in the LB I'm already planning a second trip to explore more of the menu including a plethora of non-dairy ice creams, cookies and treats. The service was fun and friendly, the staff on duty were some super women getting it done!! And we more than appreciate all of them for a good experience. Q-Tips: Parking is intense in the Downtown area of Long Beach, but you can get lucky, more so early in the day or late afternoon and if not there are a lot of app pay lots in the area - you just download ParkWhiz, input your zone number and space usually behind the car if you pull in "nose" first rather than back in. If you need to use the bathroom you'll need to ask for the long spoon/spatula like key - the door self locks when it's closed. Definitely a well kept and colorful restroom. Higher Taste is a bit far from me but I always make sure to stop here when in the area, totally worth it. My favorite is their Nashville chicken sandwich/ strips. I regularly crave them. Higher Taste has really great plant-based food, and I love that there's a spot like this around. The quality is always good, and overall the food is delicious. I especially enjoy the plant-based tenders, even though I've noticed they've gotten smaller over time and sometimes the dishes can be a little inconsistent. Still, when it's on point, it's really tasty. They recently switched to a kiosk ordering system, and while it's convenient for some, I personally miss ordering at the counter -- especially since it was easier to ask for changes or customize. Customer service can also be hit or miss. It's not bad, but it's not always the most welcoming either. Nothing terrible, just not super consistent. I feel I got catfished seriously. I looked at some reviews. I called ahead and saw a "tasty looking" chick'n nachos that caught my eyes. I called ahead and asked if they could do the same nachos but with beyond meat (pea protein) and was told that they could. I placed my order to the Yelp app and got: - Fiesta Nachos -- (2.5/5) chips, Iceberg lettuce, an OVERLY EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF BLACK BEANS, roasted red bell peppers, jalapeños, no grilled corn, chipotle sauce, sub beyond meat (pea protein), side of guacamole and salsa. (see photos attached) Now to why I felt I got catfished... was that the nachos "looked good" but once I put my sides on top: guacamole, salsa and chipotle sauce to dive in I was completely underwhelmed. The beyond meat was not in crumbles like taco meat but it appeared to be hand broken-up on top of the nachos and varied in size. So there were some big pieces of beyond meat patty and some small. There were soooooooooooo MANY black beans as if someone had left over beans and needed to get rid of them so they gave them all to me... I'm not kiddin' I couldn't believe all the black beans I had. it was not good at all. Cost: $20 --including tip. After having these Nachos I don't want to try anything else they have there. Two people had the burger and were very pleased. They looked delicious, well put together and a good value. One person had the potato tacos. Very small, very skimpy and barely enough for an appetizer. My sister and I had salads. The photo on the menu showed a plate with french fry shaped pieces of plant based chicken. What I got was a small bowl with mostly croutons and a few pieces of cubed plant based chicken. It was delicious, but again, barely the size of an appetizer for the price of an entree. I know cost are rising everywhere, but this just seemed a bit ureasonable. There appeared to be only one person working when we were there, so the service was very slow.
