Very small, very skimpy and barely enough for an appetizer. My sister and I had salads. The photo on the menu showed a plate with french fry shaped pieces of plant based chicken. What I got was a small bowl with mostly croutons and a few pieces of cubed plant based chicken. It was delicious, but again, barely the size of an appetizer for the price of an entree. I know cost are rising everywhere, but this just seemed a bit ureasonable. There appeared to be only one person working when we were there, so the service was very slow. This hidden gem that I came across lived up to it's name. The young lady at the cashier was very nice and pleasant. I let her know it was my first time there, she was more than happy to take her time with me and give me a few recommendations. I order the burger there most popular for and it was amazing!! The only negative thing was the wait time for my food. it was hardly anyone there and I felt like I could of been on the payroll for as long as I had to wait for a burger and fries lol. I decided to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon. For pick up because I wanted to watch the football game. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. The menu notated it as a house favorite. Well I know why. It was pretty dang tasty. It more than made up for the prior culinary disaster. The flavors were well balanced and the wrap was a good portion. This has motivated me to try other things. Thanksgiving was great here at Higher Taste Plant Based. They opened from 12 to 6 and had a completely plant-based Thanksgiving dinner on the menu. The menu read thus: Appetizer Green Salad & Dressing Pumpkin Soup Sourdough Roll Main Course Mock Turkey Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Herbed Stuffing Sides Corn on the Cob Candied Yams Cranberry Sauce Everything on that menu (except the soup) was put on a big plate. As everything's plant based, it's crazy how well it was all prepared. It was so good that the worst thing about it is finding out we couldn't eat anymore. For instance, the difficult to imagine pumpkin soup somehow became easy to imagine how good something like that could taste. It was a lot of food. We got halfway through it all and took the rest home and had an equal size dinner the next day. The service was great, especially considering what day it was. Not a bad Asian-fusion type interior. I order delivery from here alot. I love the wholesome feeling I get from eating healthy foods. Usually just stick to the protein shake, and the Cesar salad with tempeh, love it, holds me over with sustained energy that doesn't bloat me throughout my shift. My only complaints, I wish the cups came with more delivery friendly lids. I order the shake and it has a huge mouth on the lid that is just left exposed. As an appetizer (which was brought out after our mains?) of Vietnamese spring rolls; I enjoyed both the rolls and the sauce, partner less so. Which means we will probably share an alternate appetizer in the future. The only real downside is that everything is paper/plastic: plates, cups, forks, etc. While I can understand how this simplifies things, it both downgrades the overall experience and is very wasteful. I placed a take away order from Higher Taste on a Monday night through their website. The food was ready quickly and tasted great. I ordered a Crunchwrap (with chips) and some mozzarella sticks. Crunchwrap was perfectly spicy with jalapeños (order it without if you don't like a little spice) and i believe the chips were made in house. the mozzarella sticks were crispy and delicious. The service was great - super fast pick up and very friendly. The actual restaurant wasn't too busy with customers so it seems like you could get a pretty quick meal dining in or carrying out. I would definitely come back for a Nashville hot chicken! Highly recommend this spot for Long Beach vegetarian eats! read more

I love the food here! They used to have good mozzarella sticks but they took that off the menu. But I came here and ordered the curry bowl and I sit here still waiting for it STILL after 45 minutes. I had in mind to walk around and enjoy more of my walk since I paid for parking but they took way too long to prepare the food. They have to do better with prepping food and having some ready. I would NOT come here if you want to wait an hour for your food during a non-busy hours. It was nice though because they offered me a cookie with my order but they take too long. read more

This is one of the few reasonable vegan restaurants around these days. Their house made burger is out of this world. The bun is super yummy too. The sauce on the burger might be the best part. I've been coming here regularly for dinner, the food is tasty and decently priced. However, on my last visit I ordered the crunchwrap and felt extremely sick and nauseous right after eating. The entire night I felt so uncomfortable and nauseous, to the point of almost vomiting. This has never happened before so it was surprising to me. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be returning after this last visit, the feeling was so immense and the thought of eating another meal from here makes me feel physically repulsed. Ok the food here is pretty darn good but expect to wait about 30 minutes for your food. We were the third people to come in for the day and waited just over a half hour for 3 items. Their menu offers a variety of items that rotate seasonally which is pretty cool. This is the first time I've ever had vegan mozzarella sticks and they were extremely rich. Loved them. The chili fries are SO filling and delicious. I appreciate that they keep some of the toppings separate for to-go orders to avoid the fries from getting soggy. The reasons I didn't give them 5 stars was really for sanitary reasons. I use to work in a restaurant and I'm currently a nurse so I've definitely got an eye for germs. Their bathroom was not only pretty dirty but they were out of hand soap. Gross. Also, instead of using a ladle for scooping tea out of a large bin, the employee used a clear "solo" cup that was already just floating in the bin. He literally went from the register to the bin of tea, grabbed the cup in the bin, poured a serving, then put the cup back in the bin of tea? Ew. Overall I would go back. Looks like they remodeled and changed the name of the place and have new staff. We've been coming here for like10yrs. It was my first vegan restaurant. Our issue yesterday was with the staff, the girl taking our order was so rude! She kept looking around while I was talking to her. At one point she stepped away from the register while I was giving her my order. She comes back and says nothing, just stares out looking at something behind me. I asked her, excuse me, did you get my whole order? She said yes. I repeat it back and she confirms it. Uhm ok. Then when I pay she doesn't even turn around the screen so I can see my total, sign or tip and just tells me that my receipt went to my email. Uhm ok. We waited for our food and everything comes out except the wife's food and our drinks. We waited, waited and nothing. Finally I get up to go ask her and she's nowhere to be found. I asked another employee and he tells me he can't find her either (what?). He checked the kitchen for our food and comes back to apologize and tells me that she never entered that order. Food: My sandwich was gross, I couldn't even finish it. I had the southern fried "chicken". The mozzarella sticks were good but the sauce was flavorless and it was almost like ketchup. The kid's like their nachos and my wife liked her ranch "chicken" sandwich. After so many years this the end of an era for me. It was always off with service but the food was really good. I came here because of a coworker's recommendation, and wow, I love it so far! I think this restaurant might have had a different name before, because I was told that it was "Ahimsa." Higher Taste Plant Based seems more like a slogan than a name to me, but that's besides the point. The Purple Rain smoothie is a nice, substantial drink with blueberries, dates, spinach, almond butter, and banana. And I got the pumpkin smores, hot cocoa, chocolate chip, and ginger cookies. The cookies are so dense, and almost too decadent. I inhaled the pumpkin smores cookie in less than a minute out of pure gluttony- I loved how unique the flavor was. The ginger cookie is simply bursting with flavor. Just one bite is filled with sweet gingery goodness. Now, these cookies are really freaking expensive (currently $3.95 a cookie) but you should NOT be eating these things the way I did. I'm pretty sure you could split one cookie into 2-3 servings because of how insanely thick and flavorful they are. I hardly have the willpower to do so, but now you know what you're paying for.
