Sometimes these types of beers can be pretty sugary and be a bit much. But that wasn't a problem with Huckleberry Honey Ale. Yes, it was sweet. No doubt about it but it wasn't it's dominant feature which was great and made this fruit beer a fun one to drink. Flavors to play around on your tongue with this beverage are sweet, fruity, honey and subtle. The subtle is probably the mechanism at play where nothing comes off too heavy handed , making the flavor profile well balanced. The beer is light bodied which is great as the summer time temps crank up the thermometer the light bodied beers are most appreciated.

The beer is all organic, with a small yet wonderful selection and you can tell it has been brewed with love and is great!! The Yippee IPA and the Ambitious Lager are both amazing. The interior of the building is a sight to see!! From my conversation with Jim (the owner) most of the material was reclaimed or locally sourced. It's absolutely beautiful! The ambiance is wonderful as you are sitting right next to the fermentation and brewing tanks and a wood brining furnace. The attention to detail that was put into this building is amazing! If your in the area and have never been you should be here, if your traveling through you should stop by for a beer or two...or three A hidden gem

They were not like Midwestern style cheese curds, but they were very yummy with bacon and hot honey. The cottage pie had a nice flavor although a bit dry. We asked for a side of the poutine gravy and that did the trick. I'd never heard of a pickle chicken sandwich. Yes it sounds weird. See pic for menu description. It had very moist chicken, but I did not get a ton of flavor. After I added a side more of the chipotle sauce it was more tasty. The shoestring fries were nicely seasoned. And we liked their Scotch Ale better than the Cold Smoke. We'll definitely be back to try more things up from the menu.

While I didn't go to the smoke stack... that is for another time when Steve and I can sight see together I did make a stop at the brewery as I didn't feel that it was too terribly far off of the Interstate. The brewery is nestled in downtown and the set up is pretty cool. There is a nice, spacious area inside the brewery but on nice days they do have outdoor seating on a patio. It was nice and warm on the day I paid a visit here so I took advantage of the outdoor option. The beer choice in my mind I also desired to have that would go along with the warmer weather would be a lighter beer. What fit the bill just fine was getting the Cool Hand Rice Lager. This was a nice, crisp beer that was just what I was looking for. A little bit biscuity and some hoppy bitterness going on that reflected this type of lager nicely. It was very refreshing to sit down to as my journey to Butte and the main event in Bozeman would mean hotter weather as that part of the trip unfolded.

Higherground is an excellent brewery. I am visiting family in Hamilton and heard about the opening of this brewery from all of the locals. After trying a couple different beers, I am a huge fan. Honestly the best beer I've ever had. I can't handle intense beer, so I ordered the Clear Water Crystal Ale which I was surprised to be able to easily and happily drink a whole glass of. They have many different varieties but I don't know if I'll ever want anything else. The pizza was also especially good. They make it fresh themselves and cook it right in front of you. I ordered a Hawaiian pizza the first day and came back the next for their holiday special "Christmas Pie" which had white sauce, cranberries, bacon and broccoli. The interior is spacious and welcoming and the environment is friendly, happy and comfortable. The staff are all extremely nice and helpful and even gave me free samples of the different brews to try. I'm a definitely a fan and I am going back early today to sit on the couch by the fire and use the incredibly fast wireless internet. read more

Love their beer and I am here often. However, I was appalled at the service tonight. A friend and I went in to eat and drink and we went to the bar first and we're not served for 15 minutes. The server did not even look over at us, and instead flirted with a man and ignored everyone else. It was a manageable paced night, and as a former server myself, I could not believe how inconsiderate the server was. I'm pretty disappointed because I love this place, but I should not have to wait 15 minutes for a beer or acknowledgment from servers. read more

Love, love, love this little place. Hula Hopp is my all time favorite along with a specialty pizza offered New Year's Eve called the Purple Pizza Eater. Friendly service and laid back family friendly place. Prices are great, you can't beat it. I highly recommend Higherground Brewing if you happen to be in the Hamilton area. read more

This place is amazing. The staff is very friendly and the service is fantastic. They have the best pizza and pizza crust in Hamilton maybe in the Bitterroot. It is a great family friendly place. The beer selection is excellent even though by favorite beer just went out of season. read more

They have the best Tomato Basil pesto soup and with their crusty grilled cheese, it's my favorite! Their pizza is great too but now that I've had the Tomato soup and grilled cheese I can't get anything else. The beers are very good and the seasonal offerings are really different. read more

It had a very nice seasoning on top, that we hadn't had on a salad before, but it was delicious. We loved their homemade sourdough bread with the lovely ribbon of butter it was served with. My husband had a steak, which we both thought was very good. I chose the beef cheeks, which were served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. The dish was very different from the beef cheeks I had in Italy, but they were delicious and so tender, no knife needed. The beef cheeks dish was big enough I had plenty to share with my husband, in exchange for a bite of his steak. The only thing I would change would be less salt, as the beef cheek dish was just a tad too salty for my tastes. We were quite filled and decided against a dessert, although they all sounded delicious. The waiter was very kind, and decided to treat us to a dish of strawberry sorbet for our birthdays. An unassuming door opens to a wide-open space framed by rustic wood panels and leather booths leading to a walk-in kitchen. There is no chef's counter; instead a long chef's table and views of wood-fired meals from any seat in the house. The menu is tailored but varied by local and seasonal selections. I would have appreciated stronger leadership during seating and dining, as service requires a touch of polish. Nonetheless, the local Embered Beets tipped the scales on my typical avoidance - the earthy taste is brined and balanced after firing, served along with gently sweet goat cheese speckled in fresh cracked black pepper topped with savory (crunch!) granola & radish micro greens. Another local pick - Premium Filet Mignon from Billings is fresh from the range, tender enough to cut with a butter knife, and coated in bruléed blue cheese that blends with rich jus.
