I stopped in here once one summer and never came back. Why? Because despite having the air conditioner on in my car the entire way there, parking in front, SPRINTING inside, and grabbing my dog's food so I could quickly pay and run back out to him, I was lectured about leaving my dog in a hot car in the summer and refused service. I get trying to look out for animals, and I would be the first one in line to bust open the window of a parked car to save a hot dog inside. But I was inside the store for less than 2 minutes and they freaked out on me. I looked up reviews about how poorly other people were treated here and I can only say that they're in line with what I experienced that day. read more

While the selection is good (not great) and the prices are "ok" (not good), the owner is clearly not as customer focused or customer serving as you will find in many other establishments. If your pet purchases are not driven by customer interaction or appreciation then you'll be fine with this place. If true caring, dedicated and courteous service are a factor in your pet food purchases and you prefer to have interaction with a staff that is there to serve their local community and your needs, then I'd suggest you go elsewhere. Loyalty is not recognized or valued here. And that is important to me. I'm not driven by price or even convenience as I'm sure many pet parents agree. But I am driven by appreciation, feeling valued, and most of all, being respected. While local retail is important, customer service must align with it. I came in for the self wash bath stations and to say I wasn't impressed is an understatement. To get up to the baths they had metal steps. My dog gets very anxious around baths and the sound of the metal clanking did not make her feel more comfortable. They had a good assortment of available shampoos, brushes, towels etc that were available which were good. However the baths themselves were not clean and had mold. The rubber brushes that were in the bath area had mold on the inside of them. The inside of the baths were scratched and beat up from other dogs which is very minor but could be fixed by having a rubber mat or something. I was not impressed and will not be returning. I believe the self wash was $15 which is the average price for this area. read more

+1 on the rude owner. Some of the other staff are helpful enough and help you find what you need, but I see another pet owner was excessively berated about her dog's tendency to mark. Mine didn't even mark - both I and the store owner caught him in time - but she made a huge deal about it going on and on, yelled at my dog (he didn't even pee), and was unfriendly the entire rest of the time I was in the store. You've gotta expect that dogs tend to mark, and not be so uptight and afraid of the inevitable when you own a PET STORE. Not worth paying higher prices to support this business. read more

I love this pet supply, they have a huge selection of food, toys, treats, beds, pup clothes, collars, and matching leashes, just to name some of their inventory. They have one room that is all dog supplies, and half of another room dedicated to cats (the other half is for doggie clothes!) They have SUPER cute dog sweaters and outfits, but man, if I will barely buy myself a $65 sweater I am not buying one that fits on my hand for my chihuahuas! I love their dog bed collection- I hate the ugly beds regular chain stores sell, so it's nice to have some hip options that will fit into your house's decor! I like this store because they always have cute little treats that make great gifts for your friend's spoiled pooch, or even your own! I almost giggled aloud when I saw a plastic, Kroger-esque package of dog sushi made from ingredients that are dog-friendly, just shaped as your favorite sushi rolls! They even have a set for cats as well! But they have a nice staff who know the place inside out, and it's well worth your time to visit and check out what they have! It's on the end of the Va-Hi strip, tucked in a shopping center that runs perpendicular to Highland, so keep your eyes peeled! read more

Love, love Highland Pet Supply. So many reasons why!! Back in the day when I had bigger dogs (no, I haven't always had a purse puppy!), it was the go-to spot for self-dog-washing. They have awesome tubs, sturdy ladders and super equipment, faucets with detachable handles and your choice of shampoos etc. Prices are different based on size/hair/fur/sheddiness which is fair, I think. These days, I love checking them out for cute "gifts" for Big - favorites include a picture frame with all these adorable little white dogs of different types that look like him in kind of a cartoony laminated design, an American flag collar and yet another adorable tee. They also have this line of shirts for people that I love and had only seen before at Peridot, Barkology, with cool etching-like prints of dogs and other neat designs. Big fan. I usually get Big's food at Petsmart but as others have mentioned, HPS does have an extensive supply of food choices and the staff is super helpful. Next time the dog needs a new bed or other equipment, though, I will definitely be checking them out. I especially love that the store is right next to work so it'll be easy (maybe too easy!) for me to swing by whenever!! read more

Absolutely amazing store - mostly because of the people, Toni, especially. While they might be a small store, they do their best to bring in the products that are mostly used. If they don't carry it, ask, they will let you know if they can stock it in the future. My dog LOVES this store so much... literally pulls me there to just visit. I've had NO DIFFICULTY ever with returns, refunds or exchanges. I've checked online to get cat food (Weruva Slides) cheaper - and quite frankly I cannot, so why not support a local owned chain? Toni is on top of the latest and greatest toys, treats, beds, collars, bowls, kennels, foods... you name it. If they don't have it - ask for Toni - she'll do what she can to find it for you at a very competitive price. As far as customer appreciation, well, I feel appreciated by them every time we set a foot & paw in the door. I am truly thankful they are open and doing business - in my opinion (and my dog's) one of the best pet supply shops ever. read more

Huge fan of this place, everytime I have gone in here they have been extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They also don't try to force you to buy certain brands and even take back the food if it doesn't work for your pet. They carry tons of high grade food to keep your little champ happy and healthy. Cutest collars here, wide-selection of toys, food, cool snacks etc. They also have self-service showers are really great and they have a wide-variety of shampoo, they even provide towels, hair dryer, nail clippers, combs, etc. All their stuff is kept very clean too! Highland Pet Supply has the widest selection of non Petsmarty leashes and collars that I've seen the this side of the Circle (285). They have waterproof ones, neoprene, rolled leather, and even the one that I got for my dog, which is a flat leather collar that has an optional piece so that you can add Blingified letters and charms to the collar. I do think that paying $75 for a water/feeding bowl is a bit much, especially when it doesn't include the bowls that are another $60+ per bowl. They are reasonably priced on the collars, and they stock the Nature Variety Raw Food Diet which is awesome. The shop guys are super friendly, and told us about the diatomaceous earth for our other doggie even though they didn't stock it. Thanks guys! I've never used the showers there, but if I didn't have my own space to do that, it seems like it'd be an awesome idea! read more

She even contributed to my Beulah's YouCaring cancer-fight fund when I couldn't afford all of the expenses on my own earning her a print which she actually appreciated! and had framed in the neighborhood because she supports local business, art and music to boot. The prices are a little high on some food items, which are of higher grade than a lot of pet food out there. Also, they were nice enough to tell me that they had self service pet grooming now. I must mention my favorite part of my last visit and that would be Cash, the pitbull. As I was paying for my Katie's food and signing the receipts, I happened to notice 2 friendly eyes staring at me. As I leaned over the counter to say hi, he reached up to meet my greeting. Cash hopped up on the chair and then the counter to get to me, best friends were made that day. I love this place! My sister & her boyfriend have two adorable dogs, and naturally, as the dogs' aunt (just work with me here), I love to spoil them with treats! And there are so many cute treats for them here! Many are made with human-grade ingredients and also are certified organic. It's slightly humorous to me that these dogs eat healthier than I do. I think I've spent more money on them than I have spent on myself, food-wise. I am a firm believer of the philosophy, "All-natural food for my all-natural dog." So I feed my puppy Nutro Ultra or Wellness. Although PETCO and other big-named pet stores carry Nutro Ultra, they often don't stock Wellness series. Whole Foods Market has some, but not every kind. They also carry various baked-goods which make dogs drool! Not only that, they have numerous chew toys that are made out of organic cotton. I get those for my puppy and he really likes to play with them as well. Make sure to check out the clothing selections. My favorites are the tank tops from Kee-Ka. read more

Ian is the REAL dog whisperer! This is the place to train your dog!! We've taken two different dogs to Ian and he's worked wonders. What's interesting is that a big part of the training is training the owner. Ian teaches you how to see things from the dog's perspective so you can reward the right behavior and discourage the wrong behavior. It's not about being the alpha dog and dominating your poor pooch! You learn how to get your dog to walk by your side, go in the crate, lie down, etc. Our first dog pulled us so crazily before taking him to Ian that I thought we'd have to give him up. Now I can trust this 80 pound mutt with my 100 pound mother and not worry about her safety. I highly recommend Ian for your dog (especially if you're at your wit's end with the dog). There are too many homeless pets and you'd be amazed what a little training can do. read more

My local friendly pet food store. oh i love it. The selection and variety is outstanding. I always go in and find new goodies for my boyfriend's dog and my little kitties. Fun toys, healthy & tasty treats, and the best of the best dog/cat food. And if you are thinking about upgrading to a new food, the store is very generous about giving you the free sample packs to try out before you invest in a bag. I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses, and Highland Pet Supply is my best example. With the unexpected arrival of Mr. Smith, mini Double Dapple Dachshund and all around bad-ass, I needed some advice on crate training a puppy. I spoke briefly with someone on the phone and they assured me they had a crate that would suit him perfectly. I arrived at the store just before closing. They were so helpful! I couldn't afford the puppy training classes, but they gave me a lot of basic information about crating and scheduling his feeding and bathroom breaks. Went in last night to buy a new harness because he's grown like crazy! From 3 1/2 pounds of puppy to 12 pounds of lean mean chewing machine. They spent about half an hour helping me find a harness to fit him that doesn't go over his head. He has ear problems so it's like WW III! Snazzy new harness on, we were given samples of new food to try, and Mr. Smith was happily munching on a treat! It's a bit pricey-the reason for 4, not 5, stars. But, I feel I'm getting quality ingredients and fantastic customer service from people who really care about pets! read more

Very cool pet store with great and extremely knowledgable staff. They have a great assortment of products and specialty foods, as well as treats and training devices. The staff is a WEALTH of knowledge, and they're happy to offer help. They also have a pet wash in the back where you can use their tubs, towels, aprons, spray hose, shampoo, and anything else you need to keep your dog clean. Saves time and they do all the cleanup! Great selection of food and toys, knowledgeable staff and better prices than amazon! My new pup is a picky eater. I am having a hard time getting her to eat anything - which is scary for a dog that weighs 2lbs. After extensive online research on what food to get found that HPS was one of the only dealers for the food I chose (Primal Raw.) I called two other places before I headed to HPS. In both cases the person who answered the phone was confused about the product I was getting. In one case the girl said " I don't think we have it." I asked her "think or don't have it?" HPS immediately knew what selection they had of RAW food. They also were able to let me know a good kibble that would be a good size for my tiny dog's mouth. The price on both the foods I got was less than the amazon prices. Store is nice and quiet. Huge selection of food, toys and treats. Staff didn't seem to mind me wandering around and asking questions about almost all the food in the store- and even better they actually had answers to my questions! Love this place. Glad to have a go to brick and mortar store for the new pup! If they would start carrying Paw Naturaw I would give them 7 stars! read more

Their staff suggested a fish/vegetable blend, said her coat would change within one month and they were right! She hasn't had an itching spring/summer since! Oh I love this place! I live in McDonough, but any chance I get to come to the Highlands, I usually stop in here. This store has anything and everything you can think of. From heating pads for dogs to toys galore! They also have shampoo and bathing station for dogs. I can see how it would be so easy to bring your pooch here and spoil them like crazy. I emailed the owner one day needing a bowl that attaches to a dog crate and she quickly emailed me back asking me what size I needed and when I would need them. I came by a week later and she knew exactly who I was simply by my email and pulled three different sizes for me to choose from. The bowls were only like $5 each and they worked so well in my dogs crate! They also sell adorable little dog treats at the check out. If your dog or cat has a special diet, this is the place to go! It's pretty small for a pet store, but they have exactly what food I need for my picky dog. It's a little bit more expensive, but register your name with them and your 11th (I think...) bag of dog food is free. They also can groom your pet and have a variety of beds, toys, shampoos, vitamins, food, treats, etc. Pretty much what a typical pet store would have. Just on a small scale with much cooler employees. And it's a local business! Support your local shops, people. I went to Highland Pet Supply for the first time since moving to ATL. Here's what you need to know: 1- HPS cares about pets nutrition, and so they carry the high names in food. Don't expect to find Science Diet here. Expect better nutrition for your pets. 2- The staff isn't bubbling over with exuded friendliness, and I mean that in a good way. They are to the point, helpful, and precise, and will take the time to explain to you why the product they are suggesting works for you. It's genuine help--not false salesman charm. 3- They carry local products. We went to them specifically for this reason, as they carry a dog shampoo made locally. WIN. 4- Things here cater to big dogs, too. If you have a large breed, you know what I'm talking about. Too many places only carry to small dogs--This one is different, and you can find XXL sizes when you need them, as well as toys to stand up to tough breed play. 5-They carry many eco-friendly products, so those you (like me) who are trying to be more environmentally conscious with their pet will enjoy it. The place carries higher priced items, but that is typical of a boutique or small shop, as well as of good quality in the pet industry. If you want to feed your pet food that is good for them and not chock full of fillers, expect a slightly higher price tag. I will definitely be back to HPS--They get my pets, and they get what I'm looking for. read more

The dog wash here is the best thing ever. $13 for my 40 pound dog and they provide the shampoo and clean up the mess. I used to spend an hour cleaning the bathroom after I washed the dog and now...I let the awesome people here clean up after the dog. $13 well spent! My dog has sensitive skin and they've been helpful in giving me shampoos that help her issue and also with some other hot spot type products that have worked well. read more
