I really feel the need to write an update about this dentist because I am so shocked at how exceptional this dentist really is. When I wrote this review 2 months ago I was told I needed to have my front tooth extracted, which I knew needed to happen before walking into the office. Dr. Stroup referred me to an amazing specialist, Dr. Stone who immediately made me feel as comfortable as he could with the circumstance, I mean I was having a tooth extracted and how comfortable can anyone really feel? Dr. Stroup and Dr. Stone communicated so effectively on what needed to be done to my tooth that I felt so incredibly comfortable walking into Dr. Stones office before having my tooth extracted.I felt like I was in good hands. The following Saturday, after my tooth had been extracted and I felt completely miserable, I received the most beautiful flowers. By guess who? Dr. Stroup and Dr. Stone, thanking me for the opportunity to let them take care of me. It's the little things y'all. I have had dentists before that try to tell you that you need some bizarre special surgery or laser X-ray or whatever. This is not one of those dentists. They do the minimum but not at risk of your teeth's health. They have missed a possible cavity on me before, which was a bummer. It happens. One thing to note.: you will get hounded by their appointment notification system. Emails, texts, phone calls on your landline, phone calls on your mobile. If you are one of those people that can manage a calendar, this gets annoying, but if you aren't, I suppose this helps you. read more

My first experience with Highland Smiles was good; however, after I received a crown the experience went downhill. After the procedure I was having issues/pain with that tooth. They kept saying they needed to adjust it -- went it 4 different times for them to file it down more and more. Fast forward 1 year later still in pain. The last time I saw them they said I would need a root canal. Obviously I went for a 2nd opinion. The second dentist I saw took an x-ray and immediately saw what the issue was. They had left extra cement on the gum area that was irritating my tooth. They got it out and immediately it was better. Why didn't Highland Smiles take another x-ray, and thank goodness I got a second option or I would have gotten a root canal for no reason. read more

Very friendly staff, great office atmosphere, and top of the line technology. And who doesn't like having an Ipod to distract you from that person drilling holes in your mouth? Unfortunately I will not be going back to Highland Smiles. The dentist I saw recommended that I should have a crown put on one of my teeth, after doing an examination and x-rays. The quote for the work was right around $1,500, so before I dug out my checkbook, I went to another dentist for a second opinion. And boy am I glad I did! Dentist #2 did an examination, took new xrays, and came to the conclusion that I did not need a crown. He told me to keep the area clean and well flossed and everything should be fine. Fast forward to a year later and the tooth in question is a-okay. I am not trying to say that the dentists here will try to sell you unnecessary procedures, because I do not think this is the case. I do believe that this is a higher-end dentists office which charges for a top of the line dental experience. They are more expensive than other dentists in the area, as I discovered when I researched the price of a crown. In conclusion, if you have good money to spend on your pearly whites and want a posh, modern office environment, I highly suggest Highland Smiles. If you are more conservative about how much you spend at the dentist, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

I already know what some of you are thinking. 'Oh great, Slurpee boy finally got his day in a dentist chair. Hello, sweet, sugary revenge...'. And before my visit, I was totally rooting for my comeuppance, too. Since it had been a full seven years since I'd set foot in a DDS's office, I was fully prepared for the shock of a root canal or worse. To my amazement, not only was I not due for a root canal, but part step of my dentist experience was an easy one. From the friendly front desk staff to the 'matter of the bill' at the end, I found my stay Highland Smiles to be as painless as possible. There are some things that make Highlands Smiles different from any dentist I've visited before. First of all, their office is a little small, but they manage to make it cozy. Think open space with enough chairs to seat a half-dozen patients at a time (and curtains that allow for privacy). It might seem strange at first, but when you think about it, it's no-less private than an emergency room. Even when having a frank discussion about how I "hate my smile" (tis true) with the staff, I didn't feel exposed or uncomfortable in the exam chair. 45 (painfree) minutes of cleaning later, I actually felt more at ease than I did when I set foot in the place. Secondly, the technology is top-notch, as far as I can tell. I was more intimidated by the size of the monitors and television screens than the sound of the drills. As part of my initial visit, I also got my full set of x-rays, including one that rotated around my entire noggin. All this to say, I trust any dentist whose office looks more Star Wars than the Saw movies. During my cleaning, I also got to rock these sweet, orange-tinted shades that made me feel like Cee-Lo Green vacationing on Krypton. Snazzy with a capital 'S', people. While the comfortable arrangement and THX technology are definite pluses, the thing that really won me over at Highland Smiles was the personal touch. I think one of things that scared me away from the dentist for so long was my previous experiences that somehow blended the drudgery of the DMV with the shame of a confession booth. But with every interaction I had at Highland Smiles, I felt like I was warmly welcomed and tended to. My visit and cleaning with Dr. Rohleder was particularly cordial. This isn't something I thought I'd ever say about a dentist, but we got on so well that I felt like I'd been her patient for years. I came in expecting to get the third degree about my dental hygiene, and walked out of my cleaning feeling like a million bucks. Dr. Rohleder has an approach that doesn't mince words, but doesn't lay the guilt on you, either. She was even willing to stay an extra twenty minutes after office hours to discuss my specific diagnosis, at-home care and billing options. I really think that says a lot about the kind of doctor-patient relationship that's cultivated at Highland Smiles. On the subject of billing, this was a cause of concern when I found out how much it would cost to fill in all the cavities I've been tending these years. Even with dental insurance, the sheer number of fillings I'll need put a high premium on a better smile. Thankfully, Highland Smiles works with Care Credit to provide an affordable, 12 months interest-free payment plan for their customers. My pocket prayers were answered: Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and he wants you to have healthy teeth! I initially wanted to give the business a four star review, saving the coveted fifth nod for my return visit. But looking back on my excellent initial visit, I have no qualms about giving them the benefit of the doubt. Even on my first trip, they earned every star, every step of the way. I've already set my first appointment to have my fillings did come Christmas Break (see, Virginia? just in time), and I'll be sure to update my review after my operation's complete. If my future visits are anything like my first one, I think I've just made a life partner in the DDS business. And for a guy who doesn't like his own smile, that's saying something. read more

I don't have 30 minutes to fill out new forms for every appointment, and don't believe some of the information requested (my drivers license number?) requested is appropriate. The people who work here are SO nice! I mean really, really nice. I could not believe how friendly they were. Okay other than this, their service was great. I had my teeth cleaned by the dentist herself. All of their equipment seems very up to date- mind you the practice is new to that location. I highly recommend Dr. Arnold. I have had a few dentists in my time, usually they seem rushed and try to sell you on a service that is too expensive and not necessary. This office is AMAZING! They got me in quickly for an urgent problem even though I was a new patient who they had never seen before. Then, when I needed an emergent referral to an oral surgeon for eval the office manager did not stop until I had an appt the same day. These guys are AWESOME. I've been a patient here for almost two years now, and I have not had one bad experience. The staff are always professional, and talk about extremely friendly! As uncomfortable as it is that there is someone digging through my mouth, I am actually relieved that I found trustworthy people. When I have to get work done, other than the normal clean up - ie i ate too many sweets and now they are decaying my teeth, the staff welcome me, let me either use my own iPod or they have one I can use. They are sensitive to your teeth, especially if they see you cringe. Every time I go in - they keep track of areas I may have mentioned or they want to keep an eye on so I can avoid anything major. Which is nice because I genetically have cavity prone teeth. From making an appointment, getting work done, to even follow up - Highlands Smiles makes the dentist experience really easy and they are just flat out awesome people. read more

The customer service here is off the charts excellent, the staff is incredibly friendly, this family owned and operated, clearly it is their livelihood, Dr. Arnold is excellent, very comforting and they only offer services you need like preventive treatment, etc. I have been to a dentist trying to sell you services and getting you to pay for unnecessary treatment, these guys are not like that at all. They live in and care about Highlands, so if you are looking for a good neighborhood dentist and lovely staff this place is it. On your first appointment you do sign an agreement that states any missed appointments they will charge you $50, they remind you by mail and call that you have a scheduled appointment and you can cancel or change anytime, so if you missed you pay pretty simple not worthy of complaining for your own negligence. read more

I have been in love with Highland Smiles since I first walked by as a local neighborhood business owner. The customer service doesn't get any better, the space is modern, clean, and pleasant, and Dr. Kara is the bomb. This is the first dental office I actually look forward to going to! I have always had my questions answered by Dr. Kara herself or by Phil at the front desk. They are professional, honest, and I enjoy laughing through my visits. I've gone here twice now and it's been pleasant. Staff's friendly. They run on time. The first time they actually called my insurance company and informed me the amount I'd owe weeks before my appointment. I saw some users concerned they were misdiagnosed with cavities. I certainly can't speak to their experiences. I told my hygienist and Dr. Arnold I hadn't been to a dentist in 5 years and I was very concerned I'd have issues with my teeth. I received a clean bill of health. The only negatives so far are 1) Dr. Arnold lacks some bedside manner. She's in and out only asking questions about your teeth. This might be very typical but I'm use to a bit more conversation and 2) Limited hours of operation. read more

I can see how some people say this place is expensive. I was just in for a cleaning, xrays and i've gotta go in for a filling in a few weeks. Looking at what my insurance payed vs out of pocket expenses, I think its safe to say its only expensive if you have no or poor dental insurance. For the person who posted previously that the staff is smoking beautiful, i've gotta agree. It was all eye candy... makes me wish I came here sooner. All the staff is very very friendly. I was on crutches from a snowboarding accident and the hygienist whom worked with me kept asking if there was anything she could do to make me more comfortable. The only odd thing I noticed is their office is really super open as in no walls or doors, my previous dentists all had separate treating rooms. I could see how this could put some people off to being treated here. I'll be coming back to this place when ever I need dental care. read more

I was referred to Dr. Arnold by a dear friend five years ago. I had a history of dental problems and Dr. Arnold was the first dentist I've ever seen who took a holistic approach. After just a few months, however, I started having issues with both of my incisors...not seeing anything wrong, Dr. Arnold referred me to the best endodontists and oral surgeons in town. However, when I continued to have issues after root canals and extractions, it was Dr. Arnold, and not the specialists, who recognized that I had a very rare neurological disorder called trigeminal neuralgia. Because of its rarity and confusing symptoms, most people go years before a diagnosis. However, Dr. Arnold correctly diagnosed me within just a few months, even though she had never had a prior patient with the disorder. In fact, she personally called the top Denver neurologist and got my first appointment...without her "push," it would have taken months to get in. Dr. Arnold further researched my condition in order to best treat my dental needs with this neurological disorder. She and her amazing team--from hygienists to front office staff--have treated me with a highest degree of professionalism and compassion. Finally, I appreciate that the office uses top-of-the-line dental equipment and cutting edge technology...far more advanced than any of the prior dentists I used. read more

The best! I had a new crown put on one of my front teeth. Dr. Arnold, Nicole, and Nancy in the front office worked so hard to make sure that it looked great and would not let me leave until we were all 100% happy with its appearance. Moved to Denver a few years ago but I recently got dental insurance through work and found Highland Smiles which was both close to my house and on my insurance plan. I loved how communicative and open everyone was here. They wanted to make sure I knew what they were doing at all times and to make sure that any extra work was approved and that the cost was communicated before anything was done. In all honesty the staff is very nice, but my last two experiences there have prompted me to write this unfavorable review. In short, felt that Dr. Kara Arnold was in such a rush that she didn't look at the X-ray closely, if this is not the case, then giving her the benefit of the doubt, which I did, she was in too much of a rush that I was sent elsewhere. In her own words "I'm too busy to do a root canal." So the filling hits a nerve and I go elsewhere for the root canal at an additional cost and then when I came back for the crown they wanted all the money up front. I feel that if I trusted her, that she just didn't see my nerve and that it possibly sits higher than normal, then she should trust me to pay what I can so that I can get on with my life. In retrospect, the doctor always did seemed to be in a rush and maybe if she slows down maybe she'll see the root in your tooth. read more
