Overall, I was pleased with the care I received at Highland Smiles today. Friendly/experienced staff, and honest with everything that was occurring in my mouth. No up-selling occurred of any products or procedures as has been my experience at prior offices, and I left with a much needed cleaning and plan of care before my next six month follow up. I picked Highland Smiles mostly due to its high reviews here and on Google, and was not disappointed at all. I knew before going in for my initial exam and cleaning that I had an old filling that needed to be removed, and a crown put in, and my previous dentist had been unable to get the area numbed enough to do the procedure. Dr. Arnold paid close attention to all my concerns, and did a wonderful job before, during and after the crown procedure, making sure I was comfortable and relaxed and knew what to expect at every point. She also worked with me to develop a treatment plan for a couple other cavities, to fit in with my scheduling constraints. As noted in other reviews, the atmosphere is friendly and they provide music and headphones, which reduces my dental anxiety by 1000%. The hygienists are friendly and gentle, and the technology is first-rate. Early-morning hours are a plus too. read more

I greatly appreciated the following services I received by Jen or the qualities I really appreciated included: 1. Appointment started on-time 2. Friendly greeting 3. Frequently asked if I was comfortable or experiencing any pain 4. Informed me of any issues in a manner that I could understand 5. Educated me on cleaning methods that could help address the issues she observed or preventive methods in an understandable way 6. What to say. I have been going here and to Dr. Kara Arnold for years. As a nurse, I am very particular about my health care needs----doctors, dentists, other nurses, etc. Having lived in many states and cities I can honestly say the care that she and her staff give is comprehensive, meticulous and clinically sound. I have referred many friends and coworkers to her practice and all have been highly satisfied. Again, my fellow nurses are hard to please. This speaks volume that we all trust, like and value her clinical and judgement skills. Dentistry is a profession that places a high emphasis on customer service, bedside manner and overall knowledge---Dr. Arnold embodies these three elements. The reason I am just now writing a review is because of a particular situation today. My Mom is in town visiting from Florida and her veneer tooth became dislodged with eating yesterday. I left a message at the office (in a panic because my Mom was in a panic) and was called back in a timely and professional manner by the wonderful Amy at the front desk. They squeezed my Mom in, listened to her many teeth woes and assured her that the problem is fixed and not her fault. They put my Mom at ease until she returns to her home base in Florida. My Mom is a tough sell----and she said that when she is in Denver next time and needs dental work she is most definitely going to this dentist for care. This speaks volumes..... Likewise, I find their follow up phone calls for future appointments helpful (especially when I do not have a set day to day work schedule), value that they respect my time while I am there (they are never late and practice direct communication), and am impressed by the varied types of patients that they provide dentistry too (no dental job is too small or too big, no one is too young or too old). I wanted to find a dentist in the neighborhood, since my regular dentist who I really liked was so far away (and then eventually retired). Highlands Smiles had recently opened and I thought I'd give it a try. I'll have to admit that I was initially impressed, but that changed. The $50 toothpaste that I got suckered into buying didn't help my sensitive teeth (not nearly as good as a $5 tube of good ol' Sensodyne), and then I missed an appointment. Missing an appointment is grounds for litigation, according to Highland Smiles. They charged me $50 for missing an appointment (OK OK, I agreed to that when I signed up, but who thought that they would charge me the very first time I missed an appointment? I would've happily paid it if it had ever happened before, but it just seemed inappropriate since it was a one-time occurance.) Then when I didn't pay it within a few days of receiving the bill, I got a collection letter. With so many dentists around, I'd recommend someone more talented and with better customer service. I wish my old dentist hadn't retired. I'd drive twice as far now that I know how truly great he was. read more

Not 5280 Top Dentist any longer. I have been seeing Dr. Arnold for quite some time, over five years, and initially we loved her but sadly it is all about the bottom line and how many patients she can see and how much money she can make. Having an exam is now like you are being moved through like cattle and any contact with the provider is few and far between. This was escalating pre-covid but it is moreso now. My wife has had two under five years crowns pop off, one while she was getting a cleaning and the other randomly. Other reviews state this is common for this office as well. They charged $25 for PPE during covid when other Dentists were donating their PPE to hospitals. Front office Amy is awesome but the billing team is very inconvenienced and short when a $1000 bill is presented I asked many questions and was quite frustrated by her tone and lack of empathy. Like $1000 is pocket change and they dont have time to kindly go through any questions you have when not understanding your insurance coverage. I switched Dentists and they were supposed to send ALL my records as I had asked. They were not sent and the new Dentist had to call them to ask. Now I have a crown that Dr. Arnold did fall off and am tyring to have the new Dentist look at my records and they sent some records but again not all and the new dentist does not have what they need in order to evaluate. I called over the holiday as my crown fell off and received a call immediately that night from two Dentists in the area. On Highland Smiles out of office/after hours message it states if you get a call back you may be charged. Holy Cow! I am not writing this out of spite but disappointment. Our family loved the team at Highlands but in the past few years service from the Dentist and staff has significantly declined. I am writing this review as going to the Dentist is stressful enough but to be encountered with poor care, staff that is not empathetic and to be felt like just a dollar and not a person is hard and disappointing. I would feel bad if I didn't share my experience and people would be under the impression they would be getting good care. I have trusted Dr. Arnold and her staff with my dental care for years so I hope that they are able to turn the corner and become the team we once loved but for now if you are a reader I would seek elsewhere for Dental treatment as if you look at the prior reviews they are related to the same poor experience. Three of her crowns that have been put on by her in our household have fallen off in under six years. We take care of our teeth and the new dentist that had to fix her work stated it was poor dental procedure that made the crown fall off. Ensure to do your research on this office. Yes, everyone was very friendly. But...I won't be going back. I went for a check-up, cleaning, and several fillings, and a night guard was recommended for night time grinding. After the fillings, I had a lot of tooth/jaw pain. Went back to find out what was wrong, and received a de-sensitizing treatment (that did absolutely nothing to help the pain) that I assumed was complimentary...but I was billed for it. I was told I might need a root canal as the source of the pain was unclear. The night guard was adjusted a couple of times to make it fit better, but it seemed to make the tooth/jaw pain worse, so I could not use it. ($400 down the drain). Finally I was referred to a dental pain specialist. The dental pain specialist said the tooth/jaw pain was a result of trauma to my jaw that occurred while I was having my fillings (my mouth was open for a long time during the fillings, and my jaw was yanked out of alignment during the procedure). He saw the night guard I had made at Highland Smiles and told me it was poorly fitted and was causing my jaw to jut out, thus increasing the pressure on my jaw and making the pain worse. Overall, not a good experience. In the end, they did agree to not charge me for the de-sensitizing treatment, but the visit to the pain specialist cost an extra $325 and was not covered by my dental insurance. and I now have a $400 piece of plastic (night guard) that I cannot use. Updated: Lovely..one of the fillings that led to all of the pain last fall came out last night while I was flossing. I am out of town, waiting to go to a family reunion, and I'm hoping I can wait til I get back to Denver to see my NEW dentist to fix this. My tooth hurts, but after choosing Highland Smiles, randomly, without recommendations, just because it was close to my house, I am super hesitant to go see another random dentist. Uggghhh... This place really makes me believe that going to the dentist is like going to the car mechanic. I had a cleaning - it was fine - but they found two "tiny" cavities that apparently needed to be filled. I went back to have them filled and I have had cavities filled in the past but the pain was so bad and lasted a full week. I went back to get the filling shaved down and the pain persisted. A friend's dad is a retired dentist so I asked about this issue and his response was that he has heard of dentists diagnosing a "tiny" cavity and actually doing work that creates a larger cavity. Like anyone else, I don't like having even the slightest concern that I'm being taken advantage of, especially when it comes to my health or my dental health. I will not be returning to Highland Smiles and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Also, everyone who says they're expensive is 100% correct. read more

I was hoping this dentist office was top notch as its so close to home...unfortunately not the case. 1.5 year of visits, 3k+ of bills and 3 clear situations of poor customer service have led me to begin a new search. Today I went in for a crown adjustment after missing an appointment earlier in the week due to timing and traffic. All was fine until after adjustment when I was ultimately apologizing for missing the previous appointment, only to be stopped by the assistant and reiterated clearly that it was my fault. Everyone here is very friendly. They try to make the space as comfortable as possible for a dentist's office. The skylights over the exam area are nice, as is all the high tech equipment. They have a stand up X-ray machine which is cool. The hygienist was very thorough and the actual dental exam hit the main points without trying to sell me on some super procedure or product. I have been going to Dr. Arnold at Highland Smiles since they opened. I have had tons of cleanings, fillings and major tooth pain. Yes, they do get busy so make your appointments in advance. But I can also say that they have offered phenomenal customer service on my tooth that has been causing me grief forever (two root canals somewhere else and it still hurts). Recently I walked in to see I could once again get antibiotics because the tooth was acting up again. Dr. Arnold saw me immediately, took some x-rays, found the source of the problem and made an immediate referral (along with that prescription for antibiotics). I also appreciate when I have had work done that they give me an ipod to listen to and always make sure that I am properly numbed up. They also used to see my kids before their insurance changed and they are great with kids as well. Highly recommend. read more

I've been going to Dr. Arnold since she first opened her private practice. I've had nothing but great health care and very friendly customer service. Phill always remembers me and offers bottle water every time. I've had a few fillings and all have turned out well. No complaints whatsoever. We even took our two year old there for his first check up. All was well and Dr. Arnold was very friendly. I've had many dentist in the past and Dr. Arnold is one of the best for sure. I've even gone in inquiring about some cosmetic procedures and the Dr. was totally honest with me. She said I have pretty nice teeth and advised me against getting veneers. Oh man, what a relief to have come here after a terrible ordeal at Riverfront Dental Designs. The other dentist there told me I would need deep scaling and many fillings, to the tune of $600 OUT OF MY POCKET! My husband has been coming to Highland Smiles for a year now, and I was dumb not to come too. When I came in here for a 2nd opinion, the dentist did my exam and said that a regular cleaning and increased flossing would be just fine and to be diligent with my cleaning every 6 months. She also said that only 4 fillings were actually necessary right now, and there were 3 I could watch and probably clean and floss away before they get too deep and need to actually be filled. Like most people, I am a little self conscious about my smile, but also hesitate to seek out additional dental work. After mulling over getting a Zoom whitening for quite some time and doing a good amount of research, I located Highland Smiles. I was immediately booked by her receptionist Melody (called on a Monday and was booked that Wednesday) who thoroughly explained the process and pricing of the procedure. I received great customer service and treatment throughout my visit. The staff are extremely professional, pleasant and welcoming. Dr. Arnold performed an initial examination and did a great job at welcoming me and explaining the whitening process. Her dental technician Claudia was also great. She constantly checked to make sure that my comfort level was the best it could be and even offered an iPod for entertainment. Laslty, the equipment in the office is state of the art and definitely on the cutting edge of technology. The Zoom machine is amazing and as far as the whitening process, it worked awesome (my teeth were whiter by as much as 4x in some areas!) I am definitely a customer for life. read more

I found my new dentist! I went here as a new patient this Monday and was absolutely blown away by the friendliness of every staff member I encountered. I had not been to a cleaning in 2 years, I know I know not good. They took their time cleaning my teeth which was much appreciated. Still no cavities 24 years later :) And apparently July was new patient month so I got a free Sonicare toothbrush! Holla! I already made my next appointment for 6 months from now.
