    Corned Beef Hash
    Julie Y.

This is a small cafe located in Tosa that seems popular with the locals! Lots of families and young kids here eating brunch. Service was alright, since they seemed fairly busy. I ordered the corned beef hash and I recommend you order something else from the menu. The chunks of beef were massive and very difficult to chew through. You do get a good amount of food for the price though.

Haven't been in for a long time but I loved this place! The pancakes and hot chocolate were always particularly good! I like their creative entrees! Nice location!

I came at prime brunch time and was welcomed warmly by both the barista behind the counter and also a waitress when I transitioned into the dining area. The person I was with and I had a lot to chat about and our waitress came back like three times before we finally ordered our drinks; she was so kind and didn't pressure us to keep it moving. My Bloody Mary was good: it included a huge pickle and a chaser. I got the spicy chorizo hash and it was huge; the potatoes aren't crispy though--that's the only thing I wished were different. The sourdough toast was perfect and I'd come back again because everything on the menu looked really good!

First time trying this restaurant. Stopped here for breakfast. Place was so charming! Staff was friendly and food was amazing. Would definitely go again.

    First view, I like it.

I have had this place bookmarked for a long time and I have called over the years to ask if the corn beef was available that day and I was always told no, the day I finally stop over and in no mood for corn beef hash it's on the specials menu, dam it. The place is on the corner with tons of old school charm and a nice outdoor patio with a little bar up front. The back has a coffee/beverage bar wide open to the patio which was cool. The menu didn't exactly have what I wanted but the Highlands ham and eggs sounded good some what but I asked if I could tweak it because I didn't want beer battered eggs and I have been eating ham all week. They gladly let me substitute sausage links and sunny side up eggs which was what I was more in the mood for. The service was good with no issues and the food came fast and hot. My plate looked fantastic with perfect sunny side up eggs that had huge yokes over a vegetable hash with five sausage links. The eggs were tasty and hit the spot with all that good yoke soaking into the hash, next time the battered eggs. The sausage links were on the lean side so not greasy at all and average but not bad. The veggie hash was no joke and had tons of assorted veggies/potatoes to my surprise, no skimping here. My breakfast was a little different but it was very good. Overall this was a nice old school place to have a nice relaxing breakfast with the surprisingly good veggie hash, can't wait to get the corn beef hash in the future. I don't hand out that rare 5th star too often unless I feel like it was really deserved, 4 is really good from me but they get the 5 star today. I like the menu but when I finally got over I wanted something different and they gladly accommodated me and didn't charge me any up fees for completely changing the dish and getting it right , 2-3 sausage links would have been fine, 5 was more than I ever expected so thank you for a great first impression.

Great brunch food! I ordered the veggie has with egg over medium half order. I liked the half order option and able to try my friend's red velvet French toast! I would recommend getting both! The food tasted delish and not Bland at all! I came in with a group and they were able to accommodate us immediately. Food was ready in less than 10-15mins! I want to keep this place hush hush because it wasn't crowded, but I wanna make sure others know it's a good place to go to! Servers were friendly and fast, topped off my coffee frequently. The only downside that I could recommend is to serve the drinking water without straws. Straws are not needed, they are not recyclable; that applies to a lot of restaurants though. Overall great experience, great food, and coffee!

We just had lunch (on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012) in the newly expanded/remodeled Highlands Cafe. The new space has floor to ceiling glass windows that on this beautiful (albeit it cold) winter day was allowing warm, streaming sunshine in to naturally light and heat up the space. We were surprised to find out that part of the addition contains a full service cocktail/beer/wine bar. We had two of their "signature" sandwiches, a chicken bruschetta and a pancetta BLT that had lots of good stuff inside, including avocado. The sandwiches were outstanding. Highlands Cafe is a wonderful restaurant addition to Vliet Street in the Washington Heights/Highlands neighborhood. I believe this place is going to be very, very popular.

We ate brunch outside here on a nice day in early October. There was only one other couple sitting outside so we had plenty of room to social distance. The staff was extremely nice and even gave our dogs treats. The steak and pancetta hash was flavorful and chock full of veggies. The steak was a little overdone but it was fine in a hash. The Bloody Mary was well spiced and not too hot. The biscuits and gravy were simple but filling and comforting.

West coast breakfast sammie & the red velvet French toast
    Sarah E.

We had a great experience at Highlands. Our server, Kobe, was pleasant and a great host. We ordered the red velvet French toast and the west coast breakfast sammie, both of them were amazing! The food was ready fast and the prices were reasonable. The portion sizes were perfect. It was a perfect Sunday morning breakfast stop! If you're craving a sweet meal, order the red velvet French toast and you will NOT be disappointed. 10/10!

The food and service has always been good. Today, we ordered Chilaquiles with Carnitas added in a verde salsa, Corned Beef Hash, and sides of hashbrowns and 2 pancakes (instead of toast). The Chilaquiles were very good and the over easy eggs were perfect. The carnitas were tender and nicely seasoned. The housemade corned beef cubes were tender and the diced pan fried potatoes had a nice latin seasoning blend. I just wish the hash had diced bell peppers and onions. I also wish the poached eggs I asked for with the corned beef hash were cooked properly. I was expecting the type of poached eggs that are like small balloons waiting to be popped so the egg yolk oozes out over the corned beef hash. These poached eggs were over-cooked and looked un-appetizing, but tasted fine. The hashbrowns were perfect - crispy and tender and properly seasoned! The side of pancakes were fluffy and absorbed the syrup quickly. Overall a good visit. The food was mostly on point, except for the disappointing poached eggs and lack of onions and bell peppers often found in a hash. If I go back, I'll stay away from their benedicts (since poached eggs are not executed correctly, and corned beef hash, and instead stick with the Chilaquiles.

Yesterday was just wonderful, got to appreciate the outdoor seating since the weather was a perfect 73°. The hanging pansy basket was just stunning, looks like the award winning ones that are on sale at the west Allice farmers market. If that's the case I love that they're supporting local. And the whole block is in theme with the same color palette of hanging baskets!! I thought the next time I came would be to dive into one of their pies. Lo and behold I had to go with what I had last time, since it was so good! The apple danish. Chefs kiss! It hit the spot, and it's dangerous because you could be so full yet you just want...another. Additionally today I got the mocha scone, it sounded promising. It didn't mark anything special for me, but I'm glad I gave it a try. The icing tasted like as if a chocolate espresso bean took icing form, it was very visually appealing and was more on the coffee side for flavor. I felt like it wasn't dry, but it wasn't very moist? Can anything with raspberries be bad? In my book, almost never. That being said I also got the raspberry cheese danish, a classic, they're generous on the raspberry jam. The woman at the counter was personable which is always pleasant especially in a bakery, even when you're tired . Everybody walking through the neiborhood weather intentionally going, or just passing by seemed to stop in. They have a punch card for $5 off after the 10th visit. It can be punched at 3 different locations, a cheese shop and a meat shop! The cheese shop downtown has been on the go-2 list. I know I'll be back here, for one of the pies, for real this time. And for the cutest jar of sprinkles I've ever seen on a shelf.

I noticed 2 large coffee drinks made and slid over to the pickup area; they were in exactly the same paper cups, but neither were labeled. How were they to know which drink belonged to whom? I wondered.‍ Oh well, sure hope they did. I ordered a flat white, something I'd heard great things about online. However, this one was not a good way to start my journey. This flat white was absolutely AWFUL. I'm not sure what it was--if the coffee itself was over-roasted, or the milk went bad, or the machine (God forbid) was not clean--but the drink tasted burnt, bitter, highly acidic, and just "off," giving a weird unpleasant sourness at the back of my tongue. It's a good thing Collectivo serves flat whites in their smallest size, because if it had been any larger, I could not/would not have finished it. I'm by no means a coffee connoisseur, but I *am* a bit of a coffee snob. I love a good coffee. I love a well-made coffee. I know good coffee. I typically buy local freshly roasted beans, and make myself a coffee at least 1-2 a day at home. NONE of the coffee I've ever made at home--or that I've had out and about at any other shop--has tasted as bad as what I had at this particular Collectivo. I'm not saying they're all like that, I'm not even saying any other drink at this Collectivo is bad, but I anticipated--and expected--much better. I may give them another try in future, but only with GREAT trepidation. Of course, YMMV.

The matcha itself was strong, vibrant, and beautifully green - the three things that matter most to me when it comes to matcha. They also don't put too much ice to fill the cup - you won't get a drink that has half cup of ice like in many places nowadays. While I can see they're doing a great job incorporating trendy specialty recipes and flavors, I think some of those drinks could be refined a bit further from a taste perspective. The matcha itself is excellent, but a few of the specialty combinations felt stronger in concept than execution. One thing to note: the wait was quite long during my visit. It appeared that the owner was handling all of the matcha whisking personally while the rest of the staff focused on preparing other ingredients. Understandable from a quality-control standpoint, but it did create a bottleneck during a busy farmers market rush. Overall, though, this is a solid matcha offering in the Milwaukee area and definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a quality matcha drink! Bonus: the owner is so friendly and welcoming!

The space felt cluttered, with portable air conditioners and a heater hanging from the ceiling, which made it feel disorganized and a bit uninviting. I was the only customer when I arrived. There's a menu board on the wall behind the counter. I didn't see my usual drink, but I was able to order a Chai Latte. It was well made -- hot, with extra foam.
