I generally don't like to write bad reviews, but I feel like folks should be cautious about this spot. My partner and I went in for cleanings and they started upselling and pressuring us into spending a bunch of money on treatments that multiple other dentists said we didn't need. Even the basic cleaning cost a bunch when normally it's covered by our insurance company at other places. They said I needed a filling and when I agreed, they ended up messing it up. I was in pain for months. They kept trying to fix it and couldn't get it fixed, which eventually resulted in needing a root canal. Then I found out my insurance wasn't covering the filling because they said my x-rays showed I didn't even need a filling in the first place. Since the root canal was a result of the unnecessary filling, my insurance wasn't going to cover the root canal either. All of this was costing me so much money and pain for something that didn't even need to be done. I've since being going to other dentists locally and had much better experiences and care without having to spend a bunch of money with the same insurance coverage. read more

I absolutely love this office. Very clean and modern. The staff is amazing. Everyone was a pleasure to speak with. They listen and answered all of my questions & concerns in regards to getting work done to my teeth. Due to me not having insurance they were able to provide different methods to pay for my procedure. At first I was always nervous about going to the dentist , but now I feel more comfortable and know that I'm in great hands. read more

I've been to Highlands Dentists about five times over the last 3.5 years. Except for once, I've always had a different dentist since they seem to turn over dentists pretty often. After my last visit with Dr. Shont over six months ago, my view changed. I had my typical x-ray upgrades and cleaning but when she came to examine my teeth, she didn't go over any x-rays and started measuring my gums with a metal tool and was extremely rough and forceful. I've had this measurement done a couple of times in the past and this experience needn't be painful. I have a high pain tolerance but I was flinching and she never once asked if I was uncomfortable. She then told me that I needed scaling to prevent further issues and a deep cleaning ($$). Overall, she was really cold and wanted to get things over with so I think she just wanted the upsell. Six month prior with my exam here, I had no issues with my teeth or gums that were detected and six months later (with a new dentist today), my exam indicated no need for scaling or a deep clean procedure because my gums are healthy. I will never forgot the experience I had here several months ago....it was the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. read more

A clean, modern-feeling dental office with lots of windows. Xrays are done with not only bitewing in the mouth, but they also take a 360 degree view of your face/mouth. The exam was thorough and covered a visual inspection, examining the xrays, and measurement of my pocket depth. Not good news for me there, but well worth the $59 new patient fee. I don't have insurance so that's a great deal for me. The doctor then walked me through my treatment options for a root scaling/planing and brought in a payments specialist to tell me about the price for treatment. They fully disclosed everything, which I appreciated; it made me feel very informed and empowered, and that I trust them. I'll be back to get my treatments going soon! read more

I love this team. The dentist is my least favorite place to go (except for jail, I suppose, but I haven't made it there yet.), and I get anxiety just making a routine appointment. However, the team at Highlands has been so friendly, helpful, and professional during my recent visits, that I've actually been able to keep up with my oral care in a timely manner. DO NOT GO HERE! I've been going to Highlands Dentists for 4 years as I wanted to support a neighborhood practice and the people were relatively friendly. I had a crown placed by this office in late 2016, it fell out in 2018 when eating a cookie so I went back and had it re-done, it fell out again just before thanksgiving 2019 when eating a dumpling (i.e., not a sticky food), so I went back and had it re-done. If you are counting that is 3 crowns on the same tooth in 3 years AND they were done by 3 different dentists because the turnover at this office is insane (although the office always pointed out to me that the last two crowns were "Free" because they were covered by their 5 year work guarantee... that I never came close to meeting). The dentist this last visit was friendly and told me she didn't understand why the crown failed as the prep looked good. After the crown was put on this year, I was in unbelievable pain but thought it was just due to having 3 major dental procedures on the same tooth so closely together. I went out of town for Thanksgiving and was taking more pain medication than I did after I gave birth to my children because this tooth was in so much pain. I ended up needing a root canal when I came back in town and you better believe I went somewhere else and had to pay $800 out of pocket for another dental provider to fix this issue caused by this dentist. Lastly, I'll say that after 3 years of crowns on the same tooth I finally asked for the laughing gas because my anxiety was out of control as they were injecting the Novocaine out of fear of the pain to come... you better believe they charged me $100 for the laughing gas even though I was in that chair because of their failed work. Stay far away if you care about your dental health OR your wallet. read more

It's taken a lot of trial and error, but I have finally found the perfect dentist for me. Like many others, I experience a lot of anxiety at even the most routine of dental procedures, but my experience at Highlands Dentists was the best I've ever had. When I went in for my first appointment to get a cleaning and x-rays, I was immediately struck by the kindness and professionalism of the staff. The office ran like a well-oiled machine and each staff member made a clear effort to welcome me to the practice and make me as comfortable as possible. I came to find out that I needed a crown on one of my teeth. I felt my heart sink at the worry of the cost, the fear of the procedure itself, the disappointment at having to have work done at all, etc. I had no reason to fear, though. I was walked through payment options and had my insurance coverage clearly explained to me. When it came to the procedure itself, it was a dream. I experienced no discomfort whatsoever, and was continually reassured by the staff's patience and constant check ins with me throughout the process. I'm recommending this team to everyone I know. DANGER BEWARE! If I could do negative stars I would. This place is looks "nice and new" on the outside however the actual procedures done here are sketchy and scary. They took out the wrong tooth and then tried to charge me for it without even addressing the mistake they made! As if making a mistake on surgery wasn't bad enough, even the office staff doesn't care enough to pay attention to details such as names and personal information. When I asked for release forms to be sent out, they sent the release papers to the WRONG PERSON! They do not know what is going on or how to resolve any type of issues that they faulted on in the first place. They verbally promised an implant or partial denture however in a sit down meeting they denied that. Absolutely would never go back and don't recommend anyone to this place to anyone! read more

I tried there introduction cleaning, something about $60.00 After their initial new patient setup and giving them my info for insurance. I had my teeth cleaned. I was charged $200.00 and my insurance company, was charged over a $1000.00. Total scam. Would never use them again. read more

Shady business practices, beware. Friendly office staff. However, when I arrived I was asked to sign an agreement the receptionist handed to me - read it, no problem. But then, the receptionist asked me "have you heard of HIPPA?" She asked me to sign a blank computer pad saying I was given their HIPAA consent form. Thank goodness I asked to actually read it! Turns out it was not your standard HIPPA agreement. It was the office's own contract stating that I agreed to allow them to disseminate my information to "others" without my authorized consent. Who would allow this? It should read the opposite. That they will not provide my information to "others" without my authorization. "Others" can be anyone. No thanks! When I asked for clarification, was not happy. The document in its entirety was nebulous. Didn't feel my personal data and info was safe. Walked out. read more

Always super friendly and so through with my cleanings, which is super important when you're looking for a dental practice. I always go to Dr. Shonts, she is great. She always explains everything to me in detail, and reminds me the importance of flossing, which I can slack on sometimes. Also the billing department side is very through with you before any charges are made. This is something i believe to be extremely important when looking for a good dentist, or really any where you are going to spend a decent about of money. The billing department will discuss your bill before the appointment starts by going through the itemized lines. There is. It secret or hidden fee's, everything is very transparent, and I very much appreciate that. My mouth always feels super clean and sparkly after my visits. The staff at Highlands Dentist provided excellent service all around. When entering the office, you are met with a friendly face at the front desk and made to feel comfortable. Patients are offered snacks and beverages while filling out paperwork and waiting for their appointment to begin. I was very impressed with the technology in this office, from digital signature bars to a 360 degree X Ray machine to an HD monitor which the dentist (Dr. Josza) and dental hygenist (Jenna) use to show the patient their tooth and gum health. The ladies at Highlands Dentists were all very professional and did everything to make sure I was comfortable throughout the visit. The benefits coordinator was thorough in explaining options and costs based on dental insurance. I received a teeth cleaning and fluoride treatment, and they even gave me a little gift of a coffee mug, chocolates and travel teeth cleaning set. I was very impressed with my first visit to Highlands Dentists. I was happy that I could get my cleaning and a filling done in one appointment (on my first visit). I appreciate the transparency offered for the billing before the procedure was performed. I have always just received a fat bill in the past with other dentists without any explanation or estimates of cost beforehand. I really liked this straight-forward honest approach with costs presented and you pay for the procedure after being completed. Dentistry has become increasingly sales oriented (everywhere) and I like that they give recommendations and you pick and choose exactly what you want done. I did have to a wait a little while to get x-rays done, which wasn't quite as quick as it could have been. However, once started, the x-rays went fine. The staff was friendly, the dentist did a good job on my filling and this facility had all of the modern dental equipment expected in a high-quality facility. Prices weren't the lowest I've seen, but they were fair and seemed reasonable. Plus the location is good with plenty of garage parking. Really good first impression. read more
