Will never look to adopt a pet through this rescue again after getting ghosted by a foster.

completely unreliable and shady. I work in the pet after care field in Fort Worth, at the end of a…read morepredictably hot July we found a stray mother cat and her four babies. Being that we all have animals of our own, and the morbid nature of our job, we set to the task of trapping them on our own. we were able to capture three of the four kittens, but the mom and one kitten quickly saw the area was unsafe and moved on with the one kitten in tow. It's been about two weeks having them quarantined in our breakroom bathroom (uncertain of what they have, and what they could catch from deceased animals brought into our facility), stress and anxiety for these kittens is running high to the point that my wife and i decide to take one in and bare the costs, but that still leaves two that desperately need homes. over the past week not just I, but several people have reached out to this "Rescue" for some sort of assistance. I reached out to her every day since the weekend and each time was met with the same excuse, till at one point she hung up on my wife in the middle of a sentence. the problem is, if you're full or can't provide a service you're selling yourself as, you need to let the person know so as to not creat false hope. i do not believe she is trustworthy, and I do not believe she has any capacity to take care of any animal she claims to take in. We have offered to bring them by but are met with silence; I'm not even confident they are getting the medical attention or care they need when picked up either. far as I can tell, she could be just dropping pets off at a shelter. Do not waste your time with this one. seek out other volunteers with better representation and Reputation.

For context: this happened 9 years ago back in 2017. I am finally writing a review about this…read moresituation because it still BAFFLES me to this day. We still crack jokes about this situation at any given time. At the time I was 13 years old and my mom and I were looking for a small dog to adopt. We were browsing shelters all around DFW trying to find the perfect fit for our family. We stumbled across Second Chance and decided to take a look at their small dogs, and that's when we found the cutest little brown Chihuahua! She was perfect, super adorable and amazing temperament. My mom and I instantly fell in love with her and were practically begging to fill out the adoption application. Once one of the adoption counselors sat down with us, she asked us basic questions (have you owned a dog before, was the dog spayed/neutered) etc! Basic questions that we easily had the answers to. Then the lady informs us that the little dog is heartworm positive, and asks us if we know what that is. Well yes we do know what heartworm is! She then asks if we have ever had experience with a dog that is heartworm positive. (This is when it gets absolutely ridiculous) My mom, thinking she was adding important insight and HOPING to inform the counselor that we will in fact actively treat her condition, said that she did have experience with a heartworm positive dog.....WHEN SHE WAS 5 YEARS OLD. IN MEXICO. IT WAS HER FATHERS DOG. My mom, at no fault of her own, once again let the counselor know what this was literally 25-30 YEARS AGO. And it technically wasn't her dog. She just grew up with this dog and knew that when her father first adopted it, it was heartworm positive. And of course they treated and cured the dog of heartworm as well! But, it didn't matter. The lady took the little dog out of my hands and said they don't adopt to anyone who has had a dog in the past that was heartworm positive. My mom was baffled and once again tried explaining that it wasn't her dog. They didn't care. I was sooooo upset and honestly I was mad at my mom for even saying anything but in retrospect it wasn't her fault. That rule is absolutely ridiculous especially if it apparently counts towards when you were a child with no autonomy over what animal happens to be in your life. I don't know if they still operate like this, but do yourself a favor and just go to Operation Kindness. A million times better and amazing customer service as well. This is where we ended up finding our new member to the family, Bella! This place definitely has first come first serve on animals but with their STAFF (as seen in other reviews posted) and they make it very obvious by the insane rules and "criteria" they use for adopting out a dog/cat. I am 22 years old now and still would not recommend.

They do an excellent job vetting each dog before making them available for adoption, and they have a fantastic return policy in the rare case that the dog doesn't work out with its adopted furever home. I had the opportunity to meet some of the dedicated volunteers who assist in the overall process of helping the dogs that come to our area for adoption. I loved their compassion and commitment to them. they were very responsive to my questions/inquiries about Cooper and any of his medical needs/situations. I highly recommend TTR and the pups they bring to us. They are not in this for the money at all. It's all about the dogs, and their commitment and efforts are unmatched. Also, I found their adoption rates to be very reasonable for what you get in return. I highly recommend TTR as a quality source for adopting a rescue companion. I found my little dog Copper online, but he was in Texas. I was excited when I found out he had come north to the Baltimore area for an adoption event at the Pet Smart in Abingdon, hoping to find a furever home. I found the Facebook page for TTR ( https://www.facebook.com/talltailsrescue ) and saw the live feeds for the 3rd Saturday/Sunday adoption event at Pet Smart. It was there I got to see Cooper beyond his internet picture. He was very yappy and had a sign on his cage that read, "CAUTION: do not reach your finger into the cage. I'm a bit timid." The live video posted at the end of the adoption day was calling for Foster parents for the 3 dogs that had not been adopted. Needless to say, of the many small dogs they brought up for the adoption day, Cooper was the only one that did not get picked. Gee, imagine that! But, something in his eyes and his behavior suggested he was really innocent. So, I made arrangements to meet him and long story shorter, I learned that he had been through a lot of hardship as a puppy at just a year old, and I realized his yappness was actually him crying out for help. He has turned out to be a very sweet and loving companion. A total under-the-covers boy who wants to stay near me. Yet, at 15lbs, he has enough moxie to handle my 80lb female Staffy, Pitbull, Lab mix, Luna. Another rescue, that is Cooper's running mate. Cooper is still a bit yappy a times but, he's learning to change that behavior very quickly. He's an incredibly smart dog. I will be having him DNA tested soon but, he appears to be a Jack Russell, Chihuahua and Dachshund mix. What we call a Jack Chiweenie! Yep...all dogs with moxie! Ken R Hyattsville, Md

She posted about the dog on her social media, so me and my husband were interested in. The animal control people said the dog will be at this shelter, we went immediately to check it out. It was very cleaned and a huge shelter. There were so many animals that are needing a home there. I walked through the shelter looking for the one my friend reported and were crying looking at these babies crying for help. If I could, I would take them all home with me. The dog we were there for unfortunately had not yet arrived at the shelter. Then, we came across my baby girl, Arroz, was jumping and crying. We just knew we had to take her home with us. She is only 2 and was disowned by her old owner when they moved to a different state so she was a stray on the street for who knows how long. She developed heart-worm because of that reason. But we're completely fine with it. I wanted to give this little girl a home matter what. I didn't know it was free to adopt animal from 1-6 years old from this shelter and if your adopted animals have health conditions, they will help cover them all! They have absolutely great service, they made it super quick and easy for us to take her home and after 3 days that she's home, they reached out and checked up on her! If you're considering adopting/getting a pet, please check them out! There are so many pets awaiting for adoption!

The shelter had a neutering/spaying promotion after the holidays for only $20. I also bought a microchip and six months worth of heart-worm prevention for only $43. Terrible experience…read more They do not answer the phones, their animals have been know to be ill after adopting, but they promise the animals are healthy. Dirty areas for animals, poop not cleaned, rotting food in some kennels at the locations they have the animals at. Their processing is absolutely terrible, I was going to adopt a cat they posted online about (it being popular) and they said they'd look for the right home for him. This was supposed to be fair but they decide to give it to a woman who works for them. Talk about loyalist/cliquey. Absolutely humiliating to send emails and follow ups for a cat they already knew someone on their team was going to adopt. At that point just say you're not letting him be adopted or "send your interest!" To an email they have automated replies to, not even an email disclosing to many families that won't be able to adopt him. The bigger issue when you go to their events is that they post the wrong information on the pet profiles of where an animal is, clearly nobody knew where it was and I wasted so much time going back and forth to locations the day the events were held at only to be told (after being told it was the other location the animal was at) that the animal was ADOPTED, but yeah you can "adopt another animal", you can't even meet the animals and see if they're compatible for you because adoptions are quick at these events and or are unorganized. There's too many animals from this organization at PetCo and Petsmart that don't get adopted because they're "not good" enough like "Elmer" - they don't get the adequate exposure or popularity. No wonder they refuse to take in lost pets and tell you to dump them back where you found them - "they don't have enough kennel space!" They would if they pushed these animals more like they did for a singular cat. They don't hand pick anyone for the rest of the animals and anyone could adopt them. But for a popular animal they do! Talk about morals. How do you know that the animal you let to a family isn't going to be abused or if it's the adequate household for them? There have been cases where fosters and random people at these events who adopt these animals and end up abusing them or killing them because there was no processing or background checks, just look it up if you don't believe me. But sure, give unnecessary privilege to a woman that already is in your inner circle and that cat that's going to be farmed for clout. Absolute greed and stupidity.
