Great experience. The adoption process is easy - - yet thorough - - and you can definitely tell want good homes for their rescues. If you save one, you inversely save another by giving this wonderful shelter extra room. If you're on the fence, just do it. One of the best decisions we have ever made.

We had such a wonderful experience with Second Chance! I highly recommend to anyone looking for your forever pet. Our adoption went so smooth & we found our beloved puppy, Mulligan. Everyone at the shelter was extremely friendly, professional & genuine. The facility was very clean and well maintained. It's clear to see they want the best possible environment for these animals who have been through so much. The shelter only takes animals that would otherwise be euthanized. What a beautiful organization & group of people with big hearts. We met Mulligan on a Thursday evening (5 min before they closed) The staff members encouraged us to take our time meeting him & there was no rush. They explained that we wouldn't be able to adopt him until the next day (which I thought was pretty soon) and they didn't know all of his back-round but we could get that information from Kendall, the director of operations the following day. We fell in love with this little guy and came back 1st thing in the am to see if we would be lucky enough to bring him home. I was surprised how quick & seamless the adoption was. I had my 15 mo old son with me (who cannot sit still) and they staff really helped us through the process. Kendall provided me with all of his info and asked us a few questions to be sure we were a good fit. The adoption fee was nothing (when you think about the vet care). All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, chipped etc. They even provide a complimentary puppy trainer if any behavior issues arise. We reached out to her about a month after adoption. Laura came out to our house and had great advice. We really had such a great experience with Second Chance SPCA. I cannot thank them enough for everything they have done. Without their resources and the people behind this organization, our sweet Mulligan wouldn't be alive today. I can't imagine our world without him. He is the sweetest dog with the best personality. If you are looking for your next forever pet, I highly recommend RESCUING period. SAVE A LIFE, they make the BEST pets. Again, I highly recommend Second Chance!

My wife and I went looking for a cat and went to a few shelters. This was the last stop for us and the staff was helpful from the start. They introduced us to the cats and let us spend some alone time with one we requested. They were upfront the entire time about what was necessary to complete the adoption paperwork. We even got to meet our cats foster mom. We got necessary documents the next day and walked away with our beautiful bobtailed baby cat. The people there put the pets first. It's a great place to go and I am so thankful we found our furry friend there.

I got my precious little girl Chihuahua Nessie from Second Chance SPCA. The staff were awesome, friendly and kind. They had taken such good care of her she was ready to become an immediate member of my family. I have attended the birthday party for the shelter and their love for animals is very apparent. I recommend for anyone looking to find a new fur baby, go to Second Chance.

BEWARE: This Shelter Spays/Neuters Puppies as Young as 6 Weeks Old…read more I'm writing this with a heavy heart--not to attack, but to raise awareness about a practice at Operation Kindness that deeply concerns me. My intention is compassion for the animals, respect for adopters, and transparency for the public. Operation Kindness' primary focus seems to be population control, and while that goal matters, the way they pursue it can come at the expense of a puppy's well-being. They routinely spay and neuter puppies as young as six weeks old, without fully considering the adopter's intentions or the long-term health needs of the puppy. They even labeled my foster puppy as "cryptorchid," despite the fact that you cannot reliably diagnose cryptorchidism at six weeks old--the testicles often descend much later. I pleaded repeatedly with their medical manager to delay my foster's neuter until he was older and safer for the procedure. My only goal was to give him a healthy, loving, and stable life. I wasn't asking for anything extreme--I offered to: Sign a delayed-neuter contract Make a donation Adopt my foster before any surgery Pay out of pocket for neutering him at the appropriate age Even bring in a lawyer to draw up a binding agreement But every single compromise I proposed was refused. Instead of working with someone fully committed to adopting and caring for this puppy, they insisted on sending him into surgery at just six weeks old. Their medical manager, Katie, repeatedly dismissed my concerns, telling me that early neuter has no negative effects and that no scientific research says otherwise--despite the many legitimate peer-reviewed studies I've personally found that outline potential risks. In the end, I had no choice but to allow them to neuter my foster if I wanted to adopt him. I love my dog, and I would do anything for him, but their rigid policies and refusal to consider his individual needs felt unethical and cruel. I have always believed in adopting--every dog deserves a chance and has a beautiful soul. But this experience has made me rethink ever adopting a puppy from a shelter that practices such extreme early-age sterilization. I will no longer donate to Operation Kindness or support their organization. I'm sharing this because the public deserves to be aware, and because puppies--especially those as young as six weeks old--deserve better.

She ran away from home and ended up in the shelter for about a week. Because of whatever policies Plano has, they spayed her. Bella was 11, and it is incredibly high-risk to alter dogs at that age. Because of that decision, a few weeks later, Bella developed cancer. We took her to the vet to get checked out, and they told us how much the cancer treatment would cost. They also confirmed that when you spay older dogs like this, they are at a very high risk of developing cancer. Ultimately, she died. I had to put her down because she was in so much pain. Mark my words, Plano Animal Services, karma will come for you. May Bella rest in peace. I will never forgive y'all. Bella was healthy. She was my childhood dog, and I had her ever since I was almost 7 years old. Now, I am crossing the stage for my high school graduation today without her here--she is just watching over me instead.

It's been like this for years now. You are only welcome there if you're white. Today I had a really rude large white lady with black hair snap at me for asking questions about my dogs snacks. She had total attitude from start to finish like I had bothered her whole day or something.
