While waiting for my wife's medical appointment, I wondered onto Highwire Coffee in Rockridge. I ordered the Masala chai and was pleasantly surprised at how rich and creamy it tasted. It came in a tall porcelain mug as I said it was for here. The porcelain mug retained the heat better and allow me to enjoy the drink longer. Seating options are in high stools by the front windows looking out onto College Avenue, or there are bench seats outside. There are no tables for patrons to linger over their laptops. It is a nice place for a quick coffee refresher.

The service was great, and the lavender lemonade was refreshing. I will most definitely be back to try other items

They have good coffee. The people who work here are nice and it is nice and clean. I wish they had more seating inside, but that's not a deal breaker. I do like this space better than I did when they were located next door.

    Almond milk latte
    Laura E.

I had been to Highwire over a decade ago when they were at Market Hall. Today was my first time at their new location. Almond milk latte was great and I loved the heart. Though I didn't try any of the pastries this time, I noticed 3rd culture donuts, which I'd get in the future. The baristas are friendly and efficient - there were a lot of people coming and going and they seemed to be able to get people's orders quickly. They also have a rewards program. The reason this review is 4 rather than 5 stars is that they don't have WiFi. Most coffee shops I go to have it and this is important to me as I work remotely. I would definitely come back to meet up with friends but go elsewhere to get work done.

The Core Espresso, Cortado, Sparkling water

I got The Core Espresso and a cortado with almond milk. The espresso had the right texture and crema but a slightly burnt taste. The cortado was well balanced and the almond milk helped with espresso taste. I'd probably give them another shot if I was in the area because the service was great and maybe it was just a bad pull.

i am disappointed to update this review however, it has come to my attention via witnessing & not crossing a picket line EVER!!!!!! i can no longer say highwire reps my CORE values the vibes are no longer good and i am really sad... honestly i suspected when the brand changed SO drastically- oh em geeeee the new packaging is ugly & very *tech ai coffee bot* attempting to appeal to a south bay / SF crowd?! idk but your home is in oakland so when that happened i honestly just started slowly transitioning to "ain't normal cafe" across rockridge bart station AND NOW: to see workers striking bc *corporate* is expanding , destroying a brand & community reputation but not able to pay employees & treat employees with respect? if you're treating your employees poorly then you'll treat your customers poorly i no longer feel comfortable carrying my VINTAGE merch : sweatshirt & coffee mug; i no longer give highwire as goodies in my gift baskets until the workers are happy- im avoiding all highwire spaces solidarity with workers, d.

Allspice Latte -- warm, frothy, creamy and perfect for fall. The flavor of the spices, that did not over power the drink. It felt nice and balanced. Sarsaparilla Spritzer -- sparkling espresso flavor overpowered the drink, the root beer flavor wasn't as strong. Blueberries + Spiced Pastry Cream Danish -- flakey, not warmed up.

When I go into a cafe, dishes usually include sandwiches, baked sweets, pancakes or waffles. But there are times when I look at the menu and I'm trying to wake up, so I want a simpler menu. Here, they have the toast with butter. Yes, this is the perfect dish for the moment that I tend to have when choosing the first meal of the day. I also love their other menu, which is the toast with a canned fish. The cafe also sells these alongside coffee beans. The toast is sliced thick with a generous smear of butter. The toast surface has a golden shine from the melted butter. Every bite has a juicy butter taste. On the side of toast is a side of a beautiful semi-boiled egg with a runny yolk -- my favorite type of way to eat yolks. Next time, when I visit here, I will definitely try the canned fish and eat that for breakfast. That is another good breakfast menu I would love to have and try with a cup of coffee.

The good: Their vanilla latte is genuinely good. Flavorful, balanced, and not overly sweet. The food is decent too. The bad: Why is a vanilla latte pushing $7 these days and still arriving nowhere near the top of the cup? When I asked about it, I was told it's just one ice cube short of the normal volume. But consistently? Maybe that's what they mean by Ain't Normal. My bigger issue is the service. Maybe I've caught them on off days, but the staff has consistently come off with a bit of attitude. Nobody needs a parade when they order coffee, but a little warmth goes a long way, especially when you're charging specialty coffee prices. At the end of the day, the coffee is good enough that I've come back more than once. I just wish the cups were fuller and the customer service matched the quality of the drinks.

I ordered the egg coffee, and my friend and I also got the popcorn chicken to share. The coffee was so yummy! It had a nice, strong coffee flavor. It was my first time trying egg cream and I enjoyed it. The popcorn chicken was also tasty and it came in a generous portion. I especially liked the sauce that came with it. We placed an online order, so everything was ready as soon as we got there, which was convenient. The store was clean and spacious, and I thought the prices weren't bad! I'm definitely a huge fan of Binge and would love to come back. Makes me wish we had coffee spots like Binge back home!

We went on a Fri morning right around opening and it wasn't very crowded. Ordered at the kiosk and our order came out pretty quickly with my husband getting the cookie butter matcha and me getting the ube matcha. Idk if it was our timing or order, but the matcha was slightly watery and did not have a strong flavor. Additionally, my ube tasted like straight coconut than ube to the point where my husband was like yo they dyed some coconut foam purple LOL I highly doubt that was the case, but point made. The interior is fine, small but tables and wifi if you want to get some work done or study. Prices are what they are for matcha right now so I was sad to pay those prices and get a drink that was just okay. I'm not sure I'd give this spot a chance again, but eh there are a lot of competitors to give a try instead.

I got a chocolate milkshake which was pretty standard. They use vanilla ice cream, then just add the requested flavor. It was tasty nonetheless. I also tried the house bread pudding, made using chocolate croissants. It takes 10 minutes or so to be ready and is so worth the wait, moist and chocolatey, a hint of spice. The menu is pretty extensive, and everything sounded so delicious. We settled on the "Blackberries in Napa" summer mocktail, which they were able to make with oat milk (although whipped cream was still made with regular). It was the perfect cold beverage for a hot day in Berkeley. Right mix of bitterness from the espresso, creaminess from the blackberry whip, sweetness (and the slightest pinch of earthiness) from the blackberry-sumac jam at the bottom, and refreshing from the mint leaf at the top. Decorations and layout gave a friendly, welcoming environment. Not only were the benches and padded chairs comfy, the ambiance was kept even in the bathroom. Spacious, warm lighting, cute bathroom with a great mirror and cool sink. I don't ever ding places for hospital-looking bathrooms (you know, fluorescent lights, questionable floors, sand paper toilet paper...) but this was one of the few where I was impressed.
