I often come to the Piedmont area for my routine wellness and maintenance. My nail , and aesthetician are in the same block. And I have always heard about Blue Bottle Coffee but have never had the pleasure of trying them until today !! I went in it was very busy but still a rapid but calm flow of all the employees and staff working together and the clients in there patiently and excitedly waiting . It didn't feel chaotic , hostile or even stressful like Starbucks and or even Peets tends to feel like. I was greeted by the lovely and awesome Angela. She took my Cappuccino to order go , and then she had asked if I had their App. I was a little embarrassed and nervous to say...."this is my first time here". She was so so sweet and excited for me being there for the first time and even made my coffee on the house!!! I haven't heard of anything being on the Josie like that in so so so long, that act of generosity and kindess is almost lost in today's world. Exceedingly Rare Taiwan COE #5 Ching Ye Coffee Estate - this coffee was fantastic! Yes, it's an expensive cup of coffee, but the quality of the coffee bean is certainly extraordinary - very smooth, clean, and complex coffee. The floral and fruity notes of the coffee were right on and you can taste it as you sip on the coffee. Definitely no milk or sugar should be added so you can enjoy the flavor of the coffee as it is. They currently are also doing a special on cherry blossom latte and it's the best cherry blossom latte and drink that I've had so far having since had them from specialty drink stores in San Diego, to Boston, to New York, and to Washington D.C. during Cherry blossom festival. Service was at a reasonable time - don't expect Starbucks fast as coffees are made to order here. read more

Everyone is extraordinarily friendly and willing to talk about the drinks and offer recommendations. My go to's are the iced NOLA and a classic latte. Yes it's pricey, but if you're coming to blue bottle you know the price that is associated with it. I was recommended the waffles by an employee and I am glad that she did. The waffles are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and a lovely buttery and slightly sweet taste. It was made very well, the beans they use for their espresso shots are really good, and the latte milk was foamed very well. I enjoyed my drink so much that I went back 2 days later. Everything about this place speaks "Pristine," "Personable," and "Perfect." From my experience locally, this is the best coffee shop around. Immediately welcomed with professionalism and thoughtful customer service it surpasses all others. The coffee is just right, and I care deeply about a good cup roasted right and brewed to perfection. I come here fairly often and nearly every time this girl is working the line is way too long! I stood and waited eternity after eternity just to find out, she paused on a drink JUST to answer someone's question. Other times I visit it's smooth and the baristas work and talk like usual. This girl can't multitask and the drink orders pile up and she'll just keep talking and waiting and dilly dallying. I feel bad for the people that have to work with her they seem so stressed out and she looks like she couldn't care less. She talks but nobody is listening or laughing so just make the damn drinks? They were pretty busy even though it was a rainy day and the drinks took about 10 min to come out . My caffe latte was great !!! Stopped by this Blue Bottle location during my commute home for a caffeine fix. Great corner location with interesting architecture that really stands out. The area is very walkable with good foot traffic, and I noticed a comic store across the street. Parking in the back was convenient, though you do need to pay the meter. The interior design is impressive - the countertops looked super cool and gave the place a modern vibe. The barista taking our order was nice. Super friendly and took the time to explain how the sweet latte is made when I asked. Really appreciated his knowledge and willingness to help. The latte itself was delicious as always - I get the sweet latte with oat milk (which is their default option) and typically add a bit more simple syrup to make it sweeter. The table we chose to sit and wait at was dirty with food residue all over it, which was disappointing given the otherwise nice atmosphere. Despite the cleanliness issue, the excellent service, great coffee, and cool location make this a solid choice. I have been to several others Blue Bottle locations. The interior in Piedmont needs to be upgraded. Exterior has no logo. You would be passing by the shop not even realizing it is Blue Bottle. It looks like your neighborhood donut shop. People mostly take out here. For high end coffee, people do want to sit and sip. Coffee shops in the US are lacking of ambiance. In other countries, drinking coffee is a way to live. Something you enjoy and represent. read more

Consistently get luke warm coffee, even after requesting "extra hot." Today it came practically room temperature right from the barista's hands. We said yes so he checked and it seemed like they didn't receive our order. He made our drinks right away and gave us 2 free drink coupons which was really nice of him. The hojicha latte was a bit grainy, pretty bland, & just didn't have the right taste. My stomach started to feel weird as I was drinking it. My husband took 1 sip and also felt the same. Went to buy a quick espresso while walking Piedmont ave. There was only 1 person in line in front of us and the cafe was about 20% full. I ordered a Gibraltar which was delicious. Blue bottle has an excellent quality of coffee. 2 stars for this alone. Minus 3 stars for a 20 min wait from the time I ordered my coffee to when it was ready. I attributed this to the chatty person/guest talking both of the working baristas ear off the entire time. While waiting a queue of 6 ppl came behind and waiting just as long or longer. What can I say about Blue Bottle that I haven't said already in all my other reviews of Blue Bottle? Well, I still think their coffee is still rich and smooth, but somehow it has lost some of its indie mojo when Nestle acquired them five years ago. With that said, I still have a special place in my memory bank for their Piedmont Avenue location. I noticed their struggles with the pandemic more than the other locations, and I respect how they continue to persevere. This is the most dog friendly coffee shop in Oakland/SF. My dog literally walks me to blue bottle and stares to go in to get her milk bone. Super kind and attentive baristas, who will help you figure out what grind to use at home. Love the avocado toast and almond croissant (which they call a bear claw). Sunny, happy vibes. Ok so I still love BB and all, but is this location serious with their tipping suggestions of 35%? I've never seen tipping suggestions so high anywhere before. I almost didn't believe my eyes. I'm all for tipping well, but asking for 35% is really presumptuous and exorbitant IMO. It made me realize too that the staff here isn't particularly super passionate about coffee like they are at the OG Hayes Valley location. They meet the bare minimum for their jobs by making your coffee order correctly and not metaphorically spitting in your face. The last cashier, a blonde lady, greeted me with a blank stare, a half mumbled hi, and not even a "what can I get started for you?" Best coffee drinks in the US hands down. And I have been to them in SF, Oakland, San Mateo, Santa Monica, Brooklyn, Manhattan and all have excellent cappuccino, Gibraltar, espresso, consistent across the US. I don't know who teaches their baristas, but fantastic across the US. Out of any chain they perform the best at hiring only great employees, teaching them exactly perfectly, and keeping them consistent. Compare that to Peets that has gone completely downhill, worst coffee drinks, no one knows how to make an espresso drink, constantly changing employees, and a once packed San Ramon Peets is now empty and needs to close. Horrible, worse than Starbucks now, and that is pretty bad for how much you pay. I bet Blue Bottle pays its employees appreciably more than Peets. read more

I don't think there's much to say about their espressos - almost always I get a rich, velvety top which I love sipping on immediately the cup comes into my hand. This is why I still opt for hot espressos even during summer days, then cool it with my own ice cubes. I recently had their limited/ seasonal Muscovado Sugar Latte and the subtle sweetness is so pleasant! Highly recommend if you want to divert from their classic menu, which of course they also excel at. However, since the pandemic I noticed that the painter's-taped floor would need some updating. It clearly unclear to all those that come after me because they simply swoop to the front (aka "cut the line.") At first I was secretly venting at the individuals but now I think this could be better handled by the store. read more

Here's what I had: DRIP COFFEE - $4 I'm no coffee expert, but I need my caffeine. I didn't see it on the menu, but when I asked for Oat Milk, my kind barista just handed me the carton for me to add however much I liked. My cup of coffee was a nice one. LIEGE WAFEL - $4.5 Warm, crispy on the thin outer layer like its been brulee-ed. There's a slight sticky texture, which is a chewiness I really enjoyed. Yes, I really liked this waffle! CARAMEL COOKIE - $3 This semi-gooey cookie had small pieces of caramel in it. It was sweet and tasty! I ate it too fast and realized it would have gone well with my coffee. While I felt the decorum, food, and service was stellar, the thing I wish I came prepared for were: - There is no Wi-Fi - There are no outlets All in all I liked it here and I will most likely come back--but more prepared. read more

I like the booths in the back (more like 1-2 person booths)and there's a big round table in the front as well as stools in the back where the coffee is made. One observation is that the layout was not super well thought-out because if the line ever gets too long, it might be awkward to wind around the big table in the front (unless they end up swapping that table out). Overall, love Blue Bottle, but a little worried they'll detract from local business (I'm most concerned about Timeless). Street parking, but if you need groceries, I recommend you park in the Piedmont grocery lot, support the local business by buying your goods there and grab a coffee afterward! read more
