Good people! Been going here for quite some time now and love it. Its always nice having your local spot get to know you and pretty much know your order every time. Everyone here is so friendly - they get to know you and its a spot that can start your day proper. Definitely my GO-TO spot in Oakland to start my days - sometime to end my days if Im in the area. Im not a coffee snob, but I know a good cup from a bad cup. This place is consistent and is one of the few places that Ill drink it as it comes - no additions, no special anything...just as its made (ok, maybe sugar if I want something slightly sweet)...but jokes aside, its amazing as-is. Hope this place is here to stay and look forward to my many more visits in the future. Excellent coffee and completely awesome staff. My hubby ordered a cappucino and I decided to give their chai a try. Both were great - I liked the chai a lot since it had a really unique flavor and it wasn't too spicy like most chai tends to be. I have to say that Philz coffee is still my favorite... but when I'm in Oakland, this will definitely be my go-to! read more

I just paid $6 for a 12oz chai latte. I don't go out much for morning drinks because of the price which I totally understand may be justified given all the factors to run a business in an expensive area. So when I treat myself to do so its a bummer to leave filling like i've been ripped off. My "12oz" latte didn't seem close to that size, it filled up a hair more then half of my 17oz travel mug. When I asked the barista about it he said they weigh out 8oz of mix and then when they steam it, it expands. WHAT? I said "with hot air, your charging me for that"? He said "well it adds water too". Anyway you dice it, thats a whole lot of hot air your charging me for. I came home and measured it and it was not even 10 oz. Lame. read more

This Highwire Coffee Roasters was located outside the Ferry Building in a small tent setup near the rear entrance during the Saturday farmer's market. Their menu has all the essentials to jumpstart your morning. I got a coffee, which was quick and easy to order. The guys running this stand are humorous and try to help however they can. I think that the coffee here is really good, but take what I say with a grain of salt because I am the most uneducated coffee drinker you will ever meet. The other people in line seem to think that the coffee is good too, since they were patiently waiting for it even though it was drizzling and windy that day. I would pick up a cup o Joe here again because it only cost a few bucks and the employees give out free laughs with each purchase. read more

Ordered a flat white. They prepared a cappuccino and called out "Cappuccino". These high end specialty shops should know the difference, or at least clarify with the customer if they are in doubt. Forget (the atrocious lines at) Blue Bottle. High Wire's soy cappuccino is the best that I've ever had. Perhaps this is due to the brand of soy milk that they use? Whatever it is, it's gold. A hint of sweetness and spicy/cinnamon-y-ness? Yummy to my tummy. Give these hard working chaps a chance. Their coffee is outstanding. I've only seen these guys on Saturdays, but then again, I'm only at the Ferry Building on Saturdays so I am unaware of their true hours. You can find the high wire tent outside, next to the entrance to the ferries to Sausalito. If you don't know where that is, it's close to the Peet's, I think. read more

Outstanding coffee, some of the best for miles around. In the same league as Blue Bottle, Ritual, Four Barrel, Bicycle et al. Highwire roasts locally in Emeryville, but this is their only retail location, a relative hole-in-the-wall at the front of Rockridge Market Hall. Really more a stand than a store, it's worth waiting in line for a cup of fresh, hot, caffeinated pleasure. Worth waiting again for a rare seat by the window or one of the couple outdoor tables on College, with the accompanying people-watching, especially on a nice weekend day. The employees here are genuinely friendly, take pride in crafting high-end coffee drinks, yet don't cop an attitude (unlike all too many hipster-laden artisanal coffeehouses). Parking can be a challenge but turnover tends to be quick with the paid meters on College. Just don't forget to feed your meter. A big plus (and minus) is the bakery staring you in the face as you wait for coffee, beckoning with far too many way-too-tempting carb-a-licious treats. There are other food options if you venture farther into the Market Hall. Finally, I hate to say it, but this is one of the rare places in Oakland/Berkeley where you can park yourself at a sidewalk table for a long stretch and not be accosted by panhandlers or other transient types: There's a security guard that makes the rounds (really nice guy). read more

Good coffee and really sweet people, but I can't believe I just paid $5 for a (very) small latte. The regular price is $4, but they charge $1 (yep, a 25% surcharge) for nondairy milk. I am sympathetic to a bit of a surcharge but that seems ridiculous. It's 2018, guys. And it's the Bay Area. How many of your customers AREN'T ordering nondairy drinks? This coffee shop gets 1star rather than 0 only because the location is good. I waited 15 minutes for tea with steamed soy milk! The one other time I was there I waited almost as long for a simple cup of coffee. Sometimes a cup of coffee is just a cup of coffee and not a work of art! Simply put, Highwire has set the bar too high. It seems that no other cafe can rival what's happening over here. My favorite is the gibraltar but I also love the macchiato and cappuccino. The upcharge for Saint Benoit organic milk is certainly not a good value for the macchiatos and gibraltars, but man does it make them even more amazing! Only room for improvement would be consistency, as some baristas are noticeably better than others. There's always a line but that's a good problem for them to have. This is one of the first places I've been in Oakland, and the only place that competes with Broadsheet Coffee back home in Cambridge. There is usually a line but it moves fast and the menu is simple enough to keep things moving (the simple menu is key - if you have good coffee why do you need a million different options?). The mocha is particularly good - not too sweet, and the cappuccinos are the right size. They erected an outside bar that makes social distancing easy! read more

The iced coffee was fruity with low acidity, but I've had much better coffee in the area (Cole Coffee!). While I probably won't be back for the drinks, I will, however, continue stopping by for some Three Twins Ice Cream :) they only have a few flavors, I think, but who cares? This is my favorite coffee shop hands down. Consistently good drinks, awesome teas for my non coffee wife, and always friendly service. I'm not so big on the food guy that's in there as he's priced high and the dishes are questionably put together, meaning you look at it like how the heck do I eat this. Walking around the Rockridge Bart area, I was pleasantly surprised by this small cafe in a complex of all kinds of well packaged food and ingredients that added to the foodie atmosphere. As far as the coffee goes, I had just a plain latte (because that's what I always get to judge new coffee places) and I really enjoyed it. There was plenty of foam and a really nice roasted flavor to the espresso. I mean, a latte is a latte, so its hard to get creative. But I'd say its one of the better lattes I've had in a long time. The reason that I am only giving this 4 stars is that there's no good place to wait for your coffee. I had to move myself out of the way multiple times while I waited. In addition, their decor and cupping/packaging (they had loose leaf teas off to the side for sale) was nothing special. read more

I will echo prior reviews in that this is the best and most consistent excellent cup of coffee in the east bay. I've been a customer since they opened and come here nearly every day. I've taken private coffee lessons with them and attended the roasting course through living social. The leadership is friendly and passionate and super knowledgable and the baristas are great too. As an aside, this is not a true cofee house/place to sit and relax with your coffee (there are a few counter seats or outdoor tables to snag if you're lucky), but thats just what it is. I go to Highwire pretty much every morning to grab coffee before heading to work. The coffee tastes great and gives me the caffeine I need to wake up in the morning and the staff has always been friendly and nice. The location is also really convenient because it's right across from BART. The main downside to this place is its size. The cafe is pretty small, with only a few seats (probably about 8 or less seats inside). So, you can't really come here to sit down for a long period to do workor go study here. When I come here, I just drop by for morning coffee to-go. I will definitely continue coming here to get my caffeine jolt in the morning. read more

Some of the best crafted coffee in Oakland-Berkeley. The service is sooo good there you will get spoiled soon, and they are so fast. These people hussle with a smile on the face and a kind word for everyone. Seating is hit and miss, another table on the street would help. Seating at the bars, 6 stools, is for a quickie only, and that is the model here-grab a nice coffee and go. Can get busy in the morning as commuters make up 90% of the customers at that time. Afternoons are less busy and being able to sit down w/ friends over that superb cup of coffee is easier to get accomplished, although weekends are still busy. And you can get some killer teas here, either to take home or drink. I only wish Cole Coffee up the street would send their staff for Coffee making 101 here now and then ;) read more

I used to like the lattes here, and spend a half hour to hour doing some work. Haven't been for a little while, and not only do they now not have cinnamon, (what?), but they also DON'T HAVE WIFI?! In Rockridge's pasta shop and are local roasters this is a sreat option for coffee in the area and they use califia almond milk their almond based drinks, which usually turns our for a better beverage. I find their espresso has a toasty flavor to it, but that may be because I usually order it as a almond cappuccino. Some of the baristas are a lil' feisty, which I' don't mind, but most times I get good service. There's an adjacent bakery for baked goods and they offer some too. They also offer their nitro cold brewed coffee, which looks all pretty when it is poured, but I still prefer their espresso. Seating area is small. I had high hopes for this place considering what this place use to be. A pretentious coffee place that everyone hangs out at (not sure why) and they can't even make a decent cup of latte. My visit here today was truly disappointing. My soy chai latte had absolutely no flavor. It was more like steamed milk with a hint of chai. They do get a couple of stars for their quick and friendly service. If you're ever in the area, try Oliveto Cafe's (downstairs) latte or cappuccino. read more
