However, I could feel the tention between the Dr. and assistant and made me sort of uncomfortable so I stopped going. Yes the assistant was little slow, I could see and it is understandable Dr. gets frustrated with her but she should not show that in front of her patients. Another thing I did not like was she used a rubber cloth to fix my cavity so I would not swallow anything from the treatment. I had a numerous cavity fix (not proud of them) and never had that before. It was very uncomfortable and unnecessary I thought. I think it is meant for kids, not for adults. On the otherhand, I did not have any problem over insurance payments, making appointments and wait time.

Dr. Alcantra should get ZERO stars, among other things. My first visit with Dr. Alcantra went perfectly fine back in 2014, and I followed up with her for another cleaning in 2015. Prior to seeing her though I checked reviews here and all but one was pretty good. It was after my adult daughter started having dental work done with Dr. Alcantra (under my plan) that almost everything seemed to go downhill on the doctor's end, from unprofessionalism to some questionable charges and forever changing estimates with no explanation as to why changes were made, including failing to offer cheaper alternatives such as amalgams instead of composites (silver vs. white fillings). Since we haven't had any fillings we didn't even know there were options! I couldn't believe the things that I was hearing from daughter about Dr. Alcantra, and I googled her to find that MANY other previous patients had similar issues with this dentist, but their reviews were on google. Now if my daughter didn't go to Dr. Alcantra at all, of course my review here would be a five-star raving one. Unfortunately my daughter went to her appointments on her own, and I feel like she was taken advantage of because she trusted the dentist and didn't feel as if there were any reason not to. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the staff was perfectly fine during our visits, collectively. But Dr. Alcantra is a different story. As I write this review there is currently one outstanding complaint against Dr. Alcantra, filed in 2017. I'm not sure how long before my complaint will show up on DCCA's website.

This has happened on more than one occasion and only one common denominator. I've gone in the morning and afternoons to see if they're just backing up, sane result though. Parking is horrible as it's in a stop mall with many popular restaurants and a Starbucks. Wish I never switched providers. When they do finally get to you the service is good.

So we came in today, check in and all, to find out that it's my appointment and not hers. Daughter is on the spectrum so just imagine my worries of her waiting for me while I do my dental. She actually did pretty good for the first 3-5minutes but later the other hygienist have to entertain her since she is getting fixated of the plastic covered in all of the equipments. The hygienists were very helpful and understanding. But upon check out, one of the front desk (receptionist/billing)talked to me like "you can't be bringing kids on your appointment. And we can't babysit for you." Like told them upon my check in that there had been a misunderstandings on my part. But the front desk still has something to say. Sometimes, people who are on the bottom position (not wanting to put them down) are ruthless than the people like the hygienist (since their professionals) who are very understanding. Nothing against the hygienist and dentist there, they have been the best. Just that these front desk people-they are the "Front" and the face of the clinic. So please be pleasant!! If you're not happy with your job-quit! Don't give disgrace to the clinic/office that you are working!

They are great at booking your cleanings well in advance, and calling to advise if they have a sooner opening. I also appreciate the little goodie bag (toothbrush and floss) that I get after each cleaning.

I moved back to Hawaii several years back and this place was recommended to me. I know I take good care of my teeth so when I got the comment after my cleaning was "wow, no cavities, that's unusual." As if they were expecting cavities. However, after that, he did tell me that my gums were in the condition of pre-gingivitis and recommended a deep cleaning. That was weird to me so as I got more intentional about flossing and I did the deep cleaning procedure. However, after that one session, he recommended another deep cleaning just a month or so after. It already cost me several hundred dollars because my insurance didn't cover a portion of it. I don't know how often you're supposed to get a deep cleaning but that all didn't settle right with me. I decided to go to another dentist, the one from my youth, for a second opinion, and let her examine my teeth & gums. I didn't tell her anything about pre-gingivitis or my previous exam. She told me my teeth and gums were normal! I then asked her if it may have been because I got a deep cleaning. And she said no, that wouldn't have helped the condition of my gums. She said there are a lot of dentists out there recommending unnecessary deep cleanings and root canals for the additional money. These procedures require some sort of additional anesthesia or additional numbing drugs that rack up the bill. It was crazy to be made aware of such business practices that are not in the best interest of the patient. The staff of this place is quite friendly which is why I'm not giving them one star. I did notice they were pretty persistent in calling me for my next deep cleaning appointment, too. I never mean to bash a small business but this was my experience and I thought it should be shared in case it could help someone else. Especially if they feel something is not right in their gut or if recommendations from a dentist don't sit well.
