No one came to greet us for maybe five minutes, and I started to get nervous because there were only about five other occupied tables in the restaurant and I figured that servers would be pretty prompt. The person that served us turned out to be the bartender as the bar was right next to our table. This person did not offer us water, ask have you been here before, or any of the other pleasantries that all the other wait staff was telling to the other tables that we could hear. The other wait staff was telling people about the breakfast and their specials and the biscuits and everything and we got nothing. I don't know why we weren't seated somewhere with a server who didn't have to also deal with the bar, but our service was extremely slow and I am sure that is why. I ordered the lemonade and it was really delicious except that I would've liked to have had a water to drink as well. My husband ordered an iced coffee which he said was good but it was in a very tiny brandy type glass that could not have been more than 6 ounces. At five dollars for each of our drinks I would think that it could be maybe a little bigger. The person helping us never came back to talk about refills or having another drink or water or anything. We ordered the biscuits and I ordered a breakfast meal and my husband ordered the half of a chicken. I wanted my eggs over easy and they were almost hard. They were definitely not over easy; they were overcooked. Everything else was acceptable but not delicious. My husband's chicken was very juicy. He didn't get his salad until a few minutes after our entrées were delivered though. A different server brought the salad over to us and she said "ha ha found it" trying to make a joke, but it was like yeah we get it. You guys aren't very good at running food out. When it was time to pay, it took us asking for the bill to get it and then at least five minutes for it to be picked back up when we would've liked to have been on our way. The food was ordinary and the service was pretty bad. We won't be back again. Our breakfast was $50 plus $10 tip and parking and we can get much better service elsewhere for that same price.

Fortunately there is a branch of the Pittsburgh Public Library across the street and it was open, so that occupied my time. The food: the chicken and catfish are fried in light crispy breading, very fine. The chicken wingettes were delicious. The catfish was not easily flaked and was ever so slightly rubbery, which would have been a very bad sign if it had been any more so. But it wasn't too bad. Green beans are a good side dish at this sort of joint, and these were good, seasoned with meat and sautéed onions mixed in. The white rice was entirely plain but tasty.

From Cuddy's soul food I ordered a pork soul roll and a steak and cheese soul roll. I started out with the smaller of the two which ended up being the pork roll. It was a bit on the greasy side but the flavor was good. It was very porky and I appreciated the collard greens which cut through the pork and then the sweet potatoes which added a bit of sweetness. Then the steak and cheese roll is what you would expect. Lots of steak and cheese with a hint of peppers which made it a very tasty roll. Then I would I be remiss to not mention the sauce which was sweet and spicy and absolutely delicious. I enjoyed dipping both rolls into it and imagine I would like it on just about anything. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that both of my rolls here were good, albeit greasy, and I would be interested in trying some of their ribs in the future.

I ordered the 4-piece chicken wing dinner thinking that full-size wings and two sides would be enough food. I was wrong. The wings were about 50% as large as I expected, leaning closer to what I would order by the dozen at any sports bar. My friend's 4-piece chicken tender meal had noticeably more meat and even cost less. Which was very disappointing because the wings were delicious! Perfectly fried with a textured, well-seasoned skin and juicy meat inside. My side of candied yams was fine; the sauce was too watery to stick, but it was sweet enough and the yams were cooked acceptably. My side of macaroni & cheese was flat-out inedible. The noodles were boiled/baked into mushy oblivion with no detectable texture. The cheese sauce had separated both from the noodles and from itself, into grainy lumps and oil. It was repulsive and should never have left the kitchen. After I housed my wings and yams, I was still famished. I quickly ordered a batch of chicken tenders to satisfy my craving, and they were delightful. Juicy, well-spiced and the perfect amount of breading. Cuddy's chicken comes with dipping sauce included, but only two flavors are free and the rest are $1.00 surcharge. Which is odd, because these premium choices are relatively standard wing flavors like "tangy gold" (BBQ), garlic parmesan, and spicy BBQ. Overall, I was disappointed. I might return now that I know what (not) to order, but I would never go out of my way for what is a roll of the dice on food quality.
