The pickles were a mix of spears and chips with just the right amount of seasoning and they came with a tasty horseradish dipping sauce. The pretzels were nice and hot, crisp on the outside but chewy on the inside with a generous serving of beer cheese. The restaurant was steady but not crazy busy. The atmosphere was good not too quiet but not too loud, we were sat in the first dining room when you come on from the lobby. Our waitress Maddie was very friendly and efficient. I have been to Harold's hundreds of times, but I just realized I have never done a review?!? We love Harold's and always have a great meal and wonderful service. I always, and I mean always, get Captain Rods basket, but I wanted something lighter. I got mahi mahi tacos with tators...always get them with ranch! Harold's has been around just about forever! Known for their Chicken and Taters, It is a generous helping of chicken, a thigh/breast/leg. Cooked to perfection with a huge side of their famous taters. Tonight we did not order wings, but Harold's has some of the best wings around. 5 HUGE full wings with an assortment of toppings to choose from. First time having Parmesan Lemon Chicken and Angel Hair Pasta. Oh yes...I will have this again. This also was a generous portion that had me getting a take home container to enjoy at home tomorrow! The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is plenty of parking. Take out is available too! Also on Fridays they are known for their fish sandwiches. They need to train their staff on the menu. I asked a question about the grilled vegetable wrap and was told the spinach artichoke item listed as an ingredient was simply vegetables mixed together. Ambiance....the crowd noise there when they are packed is unbelievable. I have requested the owner to install sound deadener panels on their ceilings to quell the noise and echoes. I stopped in on a weeknight about 10 mins before they were closing (I didn't realize their closing time when I came in, which was 8:30PM on this particular evening), but I got great, friendly and accommodating service! I heard about their potatoes and really wanted to try them, so I knew I was getting those, but this night was rib night and that sounded good too, and their housemade crab cakes also appealed to me - so I got all of that! The crab cake was really good! A decent amount of meat inside and not too much filler/binder, but seasoned really nicely! The cole slaw that came with it was really good, I always appreciate a nice cole slaw!! And the ribs were decent! They had a nice BBQ sauce on them and they were tender, not dry, but I didn't taste any smoke/fire, so I would assume they might have been baked and finished on a flame, perhaps? Either way, they were good. But those potatoes were excellent! Definitely unlike anything I've tried before! The bartender told me they put that same spice set on their chicken and wings, so if I ever came back, I'd try those for sure! Definitely worth stopping in for a meal, they do a nice job here! While visiting family we stopped in for some wings at their neighborhood Harold's. The service was amazing and very friendly. We started with their fried zucchini with horsey sauce which was very tasty. We shared a large order of jumbo wingettes with blue cheese dressing. The first few wings, the bigger ones, were really good. Half of the order were smaller sized wings and they were dry and overcooked. The mountain seasoning was really good. Big menu with something for everyone! Restaurant is much larger than appears from the outside, nice gathering spot for families and friends. Quality, however, has been hit or miss. My son from out of town always likes to get me a meal from Mother's Day. and usually uses Harold so we went with that again this year. The DoorDash delivery was fine. However, just because Harold is the only restaurant in town they have become overrated so I asked for a steak salad, rare to medium rare meat that came with blue cheese dressing. I would never tell my son, but totally disappointed. The meat was well done to a heartbeat less and the homemade blue cheese dressing dripped like milk no chunks of blue cheese. The more things change the more they stay the same... It has been over 20 years since my wife has been to Harold's Inn and she was anxious to take me there to experience it for myself. Lot's of things have changed (they remodeled the place) but lucky for me the food was exactly as good as my wife remembered it. We started with an amazing pretzel with cheese sauce that was absolutely heavenly. Fresh and crispy with a soft center and a chew that only great pretzels can give you. Chicken wing basket was made up of mostly breading and bone poor quality on product. Did miss count on bucket shorted three pieces. This is my 2nd time having a bad experience with ordering and also food being poor quality. I waited a year to try them out again. But after yesterday they still remain the same. If you haven't been here in a while, stop in because they have remodeled the main dinning area. The entire space is sprawling but the interior design is now very bright and appealing! The young lady who waited on us was wonderfully attentive. Our food came out very quickly. I just felt bad for her because she seemed scared that she was going to do something wrong. Patience isn't the publics forte right now. She did an excellent job. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start. I got their Autumn Punch which has amaretto, cherry juice, and other things in it. This place has been open since 1960 so had to try it. They apparently are known for their chicken, so I ordered captain rod's famous chicken and taters which either came with coleslaw or I stole my husband's. The chicken was nicely fried but I guess I am not a "mountain girl" because I wasnt a fan of the mountain seasoning. However it was better when i started eating my leftovers at home. Big serving for lunch and i loved the coleslaw. My husband had the winner, the chicken club. Big piece of chicken with a thick slab of tasty bacon with provolone cheese on thicker sweeter bread. The inside fixings, tomato, lettuce etc were good. Nice flavor. My friend ordered the fish sandwich. Two huge pieces of fried fish on a bun. And I mean HUGE. Overall I was pleased. I was glad hubby shared the rest of his sandwich with me. The famous mountain seasoning was just not for me but heck this place has been in business a long time so clearly most people are fans.
