This place is huge. Lots of employees, techs and doctors and specialists and laser Center, you name it they do it!!!! I felt it was a good experience. They're very organized and even the doctors come out and call for their patient which I was extremely impressed by!!!! I would nearly guarantee you that is a typical!! So if it looks like a team and smells like a team and quacks like a team it is a team! They have an app and so you can complete the majority of your paperwork other than the Hyppa consent before you go for your appointment and save yourself about 20 minutes worth of paper. That's what I did. It wasn't difficult. When I called for the appointment they told me they would send me a link and they did indeed. We arrived about 10 minutes early and waited probably a total of 20 minutes before I was called back by one of the techs. He went over with me verbally- my symptoms and my concerns. We did some testing with advanced equipment-it seems like it gets more able every year.... and I'm sure it measured my I took photos of my corny is etc. etc. it also did the refractory testing and although you still had to answer one or two or three or one..... it was minimal and that's always my least favorite part. He also put the drops in my eyes so that they would dilate as I hadn't had a dilated exam in quite some time and my baby cataracts are bothering me quite a bit. After the machine he put me in an exam room and let me know that we were waiting for an actual room where I would eventually see the doctor and that he would come and retrieve me which he did. It might've been a 10 minute wait if that, it wasn't bad at all. He then brought me back out to the waiting room so that another gentleman could call me in on the other end of the building. He took me to another machine which was some kind of advanced photography of my ophthalmic system. I felt bad for him because he was squirming all over stooping to get these pictures, turns out that a patient's family member had borrowed his chair for the family members exam so that they could sit down during it which left him hanging in the wind. I asked him if he was OK and he advised that he just had done a huge work out yesterday and so his calves and thighs were really sore so when he had to squat it made him squirm. He was very nice and professional and always had a smile on his face. After that exam I was taken into an office to await my appointment with Chelsea Devitt. I believe she is an optometrist. She introduced herself along with the person that was going to record all of her comments right into my record. I find all this high-tech awesome and love they are not wasting paper!!! After a brief introduction she advised me she would be doing the exam and then would review everything with me when she was done but that she would be talking throughout so that the person at the computer could document everything. I agreed and she proceeded. She gave me a very thorough eye exam and even went and got her headgear so she would have the brightest light available to check out the lattice work on my retina's which I had had laser treatment for when I was a preteen. It was kind of neat that the text did all the preliminary so that she could focus on the clinical aspect. When done we did have a discussion and we talked about my cataracts and I told her that they indeed were bothering me substantially but that if they didn't meet Medicare criteria I would wait because I was not going to pay out-of-pocket to have them removed. She said they are nearly at the point And that at this time next year she sure they would be eligible for surgery. She understood that considering I pay for insurance that I didn't want to also have to pay out of pocket for the removal. I appreciated that she didn't push or question that. She then asked me if I wanted a written prescription, which I did and she then gave me directions on how to get back to the front and dismissed me. I got out to the reception area with no problem. I was totally shocked when they asked me if I wanted a written prescription because it would be $45. I have never had to pay separately for a prescription in my entire life. I know they build my insurance for the exam and I guess at all the other places I went it was included. I did want it in case I wanted to get new glasses as my other prescription was expired so I did pay the $45. They printed the rx out and gave it to me. We set an appointment for next year at this time which I may or may not have to change but why not. I was very impressed and was shocked to determine that I had been in there for two hours. I would definitely recommend it and I am glad that I am reestablished with a local optometrist and someone that can take care of my Cataracs when they are ready!!!! read more

FRONT DESK STAFF RUDE I took my 86 year old mother to see Dr. Devitt today for a consultation on laser treatment. We arrived 15 minutes early for the appointment. when my mother checked in the girl at the front desk asked if she had filled out the paperwork online. My mother told her she tried but the website kept dropping her and she would have to start all over again. She tried 3 times and it kept dropping. The girl the told her that if you didn't fill out the paperwork online they inform you to get there 30 minutes early to do the paperwork. My mother told her she was not informed about this and the girl rudely replied "well, it was in the text we sent you and if you're not able to complete the paperwork before your appointment time you may not be able to see the doctor today." EXCUSE ME but I don't think it's a good practice to threaten your patients. Especially an elderly person. That caused my mother to become very anxious that she wouldn't be done with the paperwork. I went up to the front desk to inform them that that was rude and unacceptable but they just argued that it was their policy. So, I guess in this world today there is no accommodation or respect for the elderly or what if it was someone with special needs? We will not be going back there! read more

After cataract surgery, I had to return for laser treatments in both eyes. I don't believe this is normal and it has been extremely inconvenient. The doctors are in such a rush when you finally get to see them that there's no time to ask questions. This place is like a factory, pushing patients through so they can make as much money as possible. read more

I just called to try and set an appointment for my mom based on a referral that I received from an eye doctor and I found the front desk staff to be condescending, rude and wholly unaccommodating. I DO NOT recommend Hill Country Eye Center. Dr. Restivo never comes to see you as a patient, instead he sends another "doctor" to perform the eye exam, who came across rushed, uninterested and had poor hygiene .Dr. Restivo does not appear until the day of your surgery. I have never witnessed such horrible bedside manners and money grubbing as I did with this office. I spoke to one of the receptionists who was snotty and rude. The way Dr. Restivo runs his office, it's just a matter of time before he goes along the wayside. His staff consists of a bunch of unprofessional, hostile, mind numb millennials. My 97 and 96-year-old parents were specifically referred to Hill Country Eye Center to see an ophthalmologist for severe glaucoma. After two hours, dealing with phone calls, emails and paperwork and getting apointments scheduled, it took my 97-year-old father's due diligence to learn that both of them were scheduled with an optometrist. "Oh but they do everything but surgery",they said. NOT the point! We were referred here to see an ophthalmologist, and you knowingly and deceptively scheduled with another optometrist. I would not trust this place whatsoever, because they can't even even be upfront from the very beginning. Very happy to have dodged this bullet! I highly recommend Texan Eye Center. This is the worst doctor's office. I was referred to him for a specialized eye surgery and I have called his office five times in the last three weeks and no one has done anything to set up an appointment or call me back. I get weak responses such as, we will get back to you soon. Never happens. Find someone else, I am going to starting tomorrow. I am also letting the doctor who referred him know how unhappy I am. Tried to schedule an appointment - called on 4/26 at 3pm (so that whoever was so unhelpful can be coached on better phone skills!) because we were referred by a dermatologist to this place as a specialist. Wouldn't even take a look at the patient - just flat out said over the phone "we don't do moles on the bridge of the nose, only the eyelid". It's less than a .5cm from the inner canthus and due to close proximity, a specialist was needed. Apparently the person answering the telephone has a degree and can tell over the phone that we don't count. Uncaring facility! To be avoided!! read more

Doctors are great. It's unfortunate they have an incredibly rude business manager. I was spoken to as if I was dumb while questioning the multiple office charges for the same procedure. Thanks to Dr. Restivo and his team at Hill Country Eye Center for outstanding care and superb technical expertise. A month ago, I had a trifocal IOL put in to correct cortical cataracts. I went from a minus 9 to almost 20/20 vision. It is absolutely amazing to see with such clarity after 50 years of poor eyesight. Before the surgery, Dr Restivo and Dr Soong were patient and clear when explaining the pros and cons of different IOLs. They answered all my questions thoughtfully and were honest about what they could and couldn't predict. That honesty and friendliness gave me ownership over critical decisions about my sight. Now I do see "flares" and concentric circles around oncoming headlights while driving at night but I can deal with it. I was prepared by Dr. Restivo to focus on the positive outcomes and not the negative minor annoyances. Nothing is perfect - but my near 20/20 vision is pretty darn close to it! THANK YOU. read more

Dr. Vincent Restivo just fixed my cataract! I had been having trouble with my right eye for over a year and all the eye docs I went to before just kept telling me to wait until it got worse. I went to Hill Country Eye Center and met with Dr. Restivo who fixed my eye the very next week! He recommended the ReStore multi focal lens from Alcon and he was right on! I can now see better than 20/20 and no longer have to wear glasses! He's a great guy to talk to also! Smart as a whip! read more

I rarely ever go out of my way to do anything like this but I feel compelled to give my opinion and experience with The Hill Country Eye Center and Dr. Vincent Restivo. I actually travelled from Boston, MA to Austin, TX because of a close friend's excellent recommendation. Dr. Restivo performed Lasik on my right eye in which I had 20/40 vision and following his care, I am currently 20/10 and seeing CRYSTAL CLEAR!!! My WHOLE experience with The Hill Country Eye Center's administration, medical staff and Dr. Restivo was absolutely first class and professional. Dr. Restivo made me feel comfortable and took excellent care of me. It was well worth my trip to Cedar Park, Texas and if I ever need additional eye care - This is the only place I will go. Had been to two other eye docs that had no idea what was going on with my blurry vision. I was scared because it was getting worse and was almost to the point where I couldn't drive or go to work (I am 37). I was thankfully referred to Dr Restivo at Hill Co Eye Center. He figured out exactly what was going on (extremely dry eyes) that no one else could diagnose and has worked with me for 18 months now on continiuing to figure out a fix for it. When I couldn't afford to pay my bills to him since my insurance won't cover my visits, he was more than accomodating and made it clear that he cared more about restoring my sight than getting paid. My last visit, I ended up waiting an hour-and-a-half to see my doctor and the waiting room was not that busy. I had to have my eyes dilated, which did happen and I was told I'd be seen in twenty minutes, and an hour after my dilation, I was taken to an office and then waited another twenty minutes and the doctor still hadn't shown. This has not been an unusual wait time for me there and after experiencing this several times before, I decided to leave that day and as a patient. Clearly, this clinic does not care about its patients' time. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this place if you value your time. read more

I was originally refered to Hill Country Eye Center by a friend who had the bladeless corrective surgery the month before. He praised the whole process and was able to see perfect after it. I have always been extremely scared of going through with corrective eye surgery or even going to the eye doctor. However Dr. Restivo and his staff made thr whole process painless. Dr Restivo assured me he had had patients much more scared than I was and gave a few examples. His office is easily located North Parmer and he performs the surgeries close to Mopac and 2222. I know this sounds like what everyone else says, but I should have gone through with this process years ago. Had an appointment with Dr Restivo MD yesterday May 4,2020. Always liked Dr Restivo known him for years. All was great until I checked out. I scheduled an appointment for May 2021 and picked up my prescription for new glasses. The young lady at the checkout desk handed me printout copy of my prescription and she said that will be a $45.00 charge. I asked what am I being charged for?? She said medicare will not cover this charge. I replied, charge for what?? She said it's the program we use and we have to charge you $45.00. I said I'm sorry if medicare is not covering this charge of $45.00 and I don't think they should! Do you actually think I'm going to pay this fee. My question to her $45.00 for a printout copy of my prescription are you crazy ?? That's outrageous! I handed it back to her and walked out. I could not believe their actually charging people a $45.00 fee for a print out copy of a prescription Too outrageous for me. I canceled my appointment. I won't be going back.. read more

Dr Shepler has a terrible bedside manner and is very condescending even as I tried to explain what was happening to my eye and my vision. Of course, how would he know I work in health care with a masters in health communication. With a serious eye infection affecting my vision and daily life, plus a referral to him, he dismissed me and said he normally wouldn't see this type of thing for 2-3weeks. I guess he doesn't work in preventive care as after I saw him it got worse, a round of antibiotics, ointments and self care. I made another appt after it failed to get better after 6 days, and he barely looked my direction, I counted less than 10 seconds and sent on my way. Still charged $70 copay. My eye is doing what it should be, he says. A Red, swollen, weeping, open wound. And to top it off he says, you saw me less than a week ago... 'stare' Well ya, it's worse than when I saw you. Worst demeanor for a health care professional. Guess you don't really have to care to be in his profession. Just go through the motions as a miserable human being and make money off insurance and government. read more

My experience with Hill Country Eye began last December with eyelid surgery, top and bottom, performed by Dr. Sheppler, and continuing on through cataract/traditional lens replacement surgery with Dr. Restivo; and then prescription follow up by Dr. Ostermann. I'm 72 years old, and have never been treated more professionally by physicians in my life. They are truly dedicated to the proper diagnosis, surgical repair, and post operative follow up. The staff were wonderful and I can not speak highly enough of the wonderful atmosphere created by all at this facility. Anyone needing eye care, from glasses and contacts , to more advanced procedures, will not regret checking Hill Country Eye Center first. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Shepler for a good while now, and I think he is very thorough as a doctor. He's done some eye surgery for me as well, and that turned out pretty good. I have to admit, he's not the most personable doctor ever, but I think his skills are there. I was there recently for an appointment, and was kept waiting for nearly an hour over my appointment time in the waiting room. I understand things get busy, but there should be a staff person coming to you and notifying you (and apologizing) when they're overbooked. I've had this happen with other Dr.s offices as well, and it makes you wonder, "if I'M LATE for my appointment time, they want to ding me for a missed appointment and charge me for that"... but they think nothing of wasting YOUR time sitting there, with no communication whatsoever. Had I not gone up to the counter and let them know they never called me back, they might have left me sitting for another hour. On the other hand, their patient coordinator, Judy, is REALLY excellent and always takes good care of me.. like her a lot! So, if they could just get the staff organized and more professional, this would be a top-notch experience. read more

I've never been to any medical professional in any field that was so indifferent and so negligent in an office visit as Dr. Restivo. Technician completed initial perfunctory tests. Dr. came in and said, "Your prescription is the same." No exam. Nothing. The fact is, I didn't have a prescription. When I pointed this out, he printed one and ended the visit. I left in dismay. I will follow up because I'm sure my insurance was charged for a comprehensive exam, which I will need to pursue some place else. read more

But when I finally began processing, everything moved along in a timely and efficient matter, and I was out of there by the time I expected to be. I was referred to Dr. Restivo when I re-injured a tear in my cornea a couple of weeks ago. Dr. Resitvo and his staff were very attentive, thorough, and friendly. Wait times were short and I had all of my questions answered without ever once feeling like I was being rushed out so that they could move on to the next patient. Every now and then you come across service providers, like Dr. Restivo and his staff, that truly understand customer service and take a great amount of pride in their work. Update: just found out last week when I reviewed my child's records that were sent to another doctor that Dr. Cottle hadn't told us the results of one of the exams. His vision had gotten much worse since his previous exam. Either she didn't compare the two exams or she didn't know how to interpret the results. If I had known what they were, I would have taken him to a specialist in 2010. Not happy at all. She shouldn't agree to see patients whose conditions are outside her specialty. read more

I would give them 10 stars if I could. These guys are phenomenal. I've had the most pleasant experience meeting James and Dr. Restivo who were exceptionally professional and friendly. I've done extensive research into lasik to make sure I get the best treatment possible and really wanted to discuss some details with my doctor before getting the procedure. James made sure that I got to meet Dr. Restivo when I came in for screening and I was able to get all my questions answered. I visited several lasik centers in Austin prior to that and in most of them I was not able to meet the doctor and encountered rude behavior from the staff, so the experience at Hill Country Eye Center was a very refreshing change. Dr. Restivo performs the most advanced lasik (wavefront guided) which is the best of breed for anyone who cares about getting the best results possible from lasik. Their pricing is lower than any other place in Austin that does wavefront guided surgeries (there are only a couple btw). For anyone considering lasik, forget about all the other lasik centers and go to Hill Country Eye Center. I'm sure that you'll be very happy you did. read more

My husband and I were patients here for a few years and initially, the service was fine. However, since 2015 we noticed a distinct difference. When I called to set up an appointment for each of us and had a question for the person scheduling, she became snippy, clearly resenting my questioning her. I booked appointments for myself and my husband, and when I had to reschedule my appointment, I called the day before. I couldn't get anyone on the phone so I left a detailed message, requesting someone to call me back. They never did. A few days later, my husband went to his appointment, arriving a bit earlier than his scheduled time that morning. After waiting for 45 minutes he went to the window to ask the staff how much longer, and he was told it would be at least another 45 minutes! How they can be running an hour and a half behind when it's still morning?! That was enough for us both. We're going to a different ophthalmologist now, and will not be returning to this unprofessional and disorganized excuse of a doctor's office. I saw Dr. Welding for a general eye exam this summer, but more recently I saw him for a scratched cornea due to sleeping in my contacts (ouch!). I was immediately scheduled for a same day appointment to see him. Dr. Welding was great! He was thorough in examaning my eye and helped ease my worries when performing the necessary procedure to get my eye better. He was also helpful in choosing RX eye drops that were within my budget. He had me back at 100% in less than a week! Blurred vision & sharp pains in your eye can be very scary! I am thankful for the wonderful care I received from Dr. Welding and the staff at Hill Country Eye Center. read more
