Decided to give this place second chance after a bad experience before. I was given a prescription that was a dosage of using the entire bottle of eye drops in eye at one time. Pharmacy wouldn't fill it. I and my pharmacy reached out to clarify directions and no response to neither of us. Now I have to go to a different eye care office to get care. Review - Dr. Luke Zhu, Texan Eye, 925 Starwood Dr., Cedar Park, TX 78613 Rating: (1 star) Title: Very Disappointed - Lack of Empathy and Professional Accountability I was scheduled for cataract surgery on my left eye with Dr. Luke Zhu on October 20, 2025. After being prepped--eye fully dilated, IV in my hand, tubes in my nose--I was left completely unattended for more than an hour and fifteen minutes. No nurse, assistant, or doctor checked on me or explained the delay. When I finally asked a staff member what was happening, he told me the doctor was "busy" and that it might take another 30-45 minutes. At that stage of preparation, patients are normally taken to the OR within ten minutes. I was hungry, uncomfortable, and had been fasting nearly 14 hours. I asked to be disconnected and left the center around 3 p.m. The most disappointing part is that Dr. Zhu never reached out to explain or apologize. Two-and-a-half weeks later someone from his office called politely to ask if I wanted to rebook--but by then I had decided never to return. In my opinion, Dr. Zhu showed no empathy or sense of patient responsibility. While the support staff at this facility were warm and professional, the physician himself seemed detached and unconcerned. I expected far better care and communication. Took my wife for a scheduled ROUTINE eye exam that was covered by insurance. The routine eye exam was arbitrarily re-coded as a medical exam without the patients consent. We incurred the cost of an extremely cursory MEDICAL exam. To me it appears that this practitioner seems to be in collusion with her corporate overseers to try and extract unwarranted fees from unsuspecting clients. That's about it. Have to say I'm disappointed with the staff here. I had made an appointment over the phone. Explaining to the staff member that my father needed an optometrist appointment to get a prescription for glasses. My father was referred to them by his optimologist. Upon arrival to his appointment. I checked him in through their tablet, and some of the questions were leading into these additional services that had been completed by his optimologist, so I had asked the front desk staff. Member some questions about this. She looked confused and condescendingly said that this was not an optometrist appointment for prescription but an optimologist appointment. I explained to her again that my father had already been seen by an optimologist. I clearly made an optometrist appointment, and it was confirmed at the time and date that I had originally made the appointment over the phone. This staff member, Rhianna, I believe her name is, looked at me in silence. We locked eye for about 10 seconds before I had to remind her to do her job and correct this. I mean, the competence level is pretty low. The girl that took my father to the exam room wasn't much better. She did not allow me to stay with him throughout his exam. He is disabled and I am his caregiver. Then yesterday, a week after we got his prescription there, I took my dad to look at glasses. It was 45 minutes before closing time, so there was enough time to brows frames. We were the only ones there. This middle-aged woman with mousey dark blonde hair tended to us. She said they were about to close. I looked at my cell phone to double-check the time. She retorted with the excuse for the rush, and they have to submit orders by 4:45pm. We never said we were ordering anything. We were just looking. She indirectly criticized the few pairs of Oakley frames my dad tried on, one in particular he wanted. At this point, my dad felt hurt by her degrading behavior towards him. He asked to sit down because he was getting tired. Keep in mind that my dad is disabled from a stroke and uses a walker. She told him no, he can't sit. My dad is a quiet person and just started to walk quietly towards the exit. I did t say anything either. This lady clearly had a bug up her a$$. I mean, the level of disrespect the staff gives to the elderly is disgusting. With the prescription we got, we just ordered the exact same frames and lenses for $200 cheaper a frames direct. Even without using insurance. Texan Eye needs to review the level of staff they hire. I'm sure not all the staff is like this. However, the ones we got on the days we went were just not well trained. I went to Texan Eye in Cedar Park as a first time patient at 8am on a Wednesday. When I checked in the two ladies at the front desk handed me a post it note, and told me to write my social security number on it. I told them both I had my VSP insurance number on me and let them know I did not feel comfortable writing my social security number on paper. My main fear being someone stealing my identity. When I refused to write my social security number on the tiny post it note, they told me they could not help me! Are you kidding me? So, I left and they did not care. Obviously, horrible customer service and they clearly did not care about me as a patient. read more

Do not book with this place. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks in advance for the North Mopac location. Somehow whoever scheduled it put it for the South Mopac location. They do not email. They do not call to confirm appointment. The ONLY thing is they do an automated call to simply confirm the appointment time, not the location. I drove 30 minutes in the rain to this location and told that it was at the South Mopac location which was 30 minutes away. I contacted them to explain the issue and the only thing they could do was schedule for an appointment at the end the month. Overall this place is VERY unorganized, does not communicate very well with potential clients, lacks the ability to clearly and concisely state the address of the appointment which is very important for those such as myself with a cognitive/intellectual disability. Thus I missed a very good appointment because of their negligence. I can only imagine the care I one would receive if this is how they behave prior to the appointment. read more

Even if you say what your issue is when they call back they don't address it. They just say call us back. And then it starts all over again. Their recording states they're behind due to Covid. The technician who did the preliminary tests took time to explain what each test was. My appointment was with Dr Godara and she was excellent - professional and approachable. The only reason this place gets 1 star is for the staff at the Mopac location. The assistants were great.. Dr. Sargeant was the worst doctor I have ever 'met'. She walked in the room. DIdn't even introduce herself. I would be surprised if she was in there with me more than 3 minutes. She walked out and said 'get your stuff and follow this person to contacts'.....no HI and no Goodbye. I was stunned and stood in the middle of the hallway wondering if I had just been punk'd. WOW. I am really surprised with all the bad reviews, especially since this location opened in 2015 and many of the reviews are much older from probably a different location. I needed new contacts and wasn't happy with my last two pairs from a different eye doctor so I decided to give this place a try and I am glad I did. They were very courteous. After waiting about 5 minutes I was called back and given an eye exam and fitting for new gas permeable lenses. Long story short. I got the lenses the next week and they were more comfortable, with better vision and even less expensive than I used to pay. Dr. Kerns was very kind, professional and did a great job fitting me with the new lenses and follow up. I am very happy to have found this place. read more

Best decision I've ever made was going to Texan Eye. Dr Godara has restored my vision! I was seeing 13 moons out of my right eye and could no longer drive at night. Not anymore... While Dr Branch is great the front desk administrators are the WORST! I went in for a simple contact re-fitting and the woman at the desk had a terrible attitude. I was told to fill out paperwork that I had completed 4 months ago. I was told that there was a 75.00 dollar charge for a exam that I didn't need. When I questioned her why I had to do this again I was told " because that's what I had to do". They have recently changed the business name to Texan Eye. I have been seeing Dr. Wagner in Cedar Park for 7-8 years and have always found her to be a great doctor, very friendly and personable. She does my diabetic eye exam every year and also did cataract surgery on both my eyes with great results. The techs are also very good and with only a couple of exceptions have always been very friendly and professional. The desk staff could sometimes give a few more smiles but are generally helpful and attentive. The phone system could be a little better and I've had to wait longer than I thought appropriate, but I've never had a problem with scheduling once I got through. read more

Not only were the people at the desk rude, but so was the doctor. He acted very annoyed with me when I asked questions about my condition and spent LITERALLY less than 2 minutes with me. The woman who was taking my payment at the end was beyond rude to me. They had messed up one of my appointments so they didn't have me scheduled anymore. I had asked if I should call in next time to confirm my appointment if I dont get an automated reminder just in case, and the woman responded in the most condescending and berating way. Two stars because of the office staff, specifically Beverly. This is the first time I visited Texan Eye and the reason I choose them is the recent reviews they have received. I have a two years old kid and I don't have anybody here to leave him (since we moved here recently). I had to took him with me. While we are waiting in the waiting area, Beverly told me that my son should be quiet! Really? He was not fussy, not running around or anything, he was just pointing out stuff and just being kid. What a nightmare dealing with this place! This is just an assembly line operation that has regular kinks and breakdowns along the line. I am bumping them up to 2 stars only because they deal with some really nice eye surgeons but the scheduling and office operation should get minus stars. I have a senior friend that needed cataract surgery. This lady lives alone, is an immigrant, and has no computer access. So she basically has to trust people that she deals with. First, their phone system sucks. They have a generic, all sites line that you can never get a real person on and after leaving messages, it takes days to get a response. I never got a return call at all. My friend was due to have her surgery and I took the day off to drive her. She called me ( in tears) noon the day before and said they called and cancelled her sx. Then she called two hours later and someone else had called her and said, yup, the surgery was on again. Oh happy day! Then they called her again at 8 o'clock THAT NIGHT to tell her, nope, no surgery the next day. Just an eye exam. What a roller coaster! And I lost a day at work. And she was miserable. So we finally get it straightened out and she gets the first eye done. One month later, time for the second eye. We roll up to the place and they give her her little kit bag that she got the first time with the three drops she needs for post-op. Oh, wait, there's only two of them in there. She asks questions. Yeah, they say, we don't supply the third one anymore. Gotta pay $75 to get that from your pharmacy. Told her this as she is about to be knocked out. Couldn't you have mentioned that already??? Then as she is getting her stuff done, I talked to another patient's spouse in the waiting room and her kit bag was missing a different drop. She had to approach the desk and raise hell to get them to give her one of the ones they DO supply. And she said they dropped the bomb on them when they got there for the surgery that they owed an extra $900! It just seems unnecessarily chaotic and unorganized. Like the left hand ain't conversing with the right. All I am saying, folks, is find ery thing out up front. Get details and receipts in writing. Take down names and kick some a's if ya have to. Or better yet, go somewhere else that gives a damn about you. read more

If I could give this office a zero star I would. This place is TERRIBLE. I am a fairly young person to have cataracts at 40. When I went in with financial constraints they led me to believe I could ONLY get two distance lens under my insurance, leaving me glasses dependent for the rest of my life. They did my first surgery with a distance lens, and luckily before they stole my close distance vision FOREVER, by not giving me the full range of my options, I found out about monovision. I went to another office and got my second lens set close. My insurance did not require an upcharge for this. I can now function without glasses. Shame on this practice for almost stealing my functional vision. I let them know how upset I was that this happened and they took NO responsibility for not fully informing me of my options!! Then, the icing on the cake, they take a bill that I have already paid and sent it to a collection agency - so now I have to go back and sort all of this out. My advice - avoid this practice. There are many other options here in central texas, take advantage of them. Your vision isn't something you can buy back if an incompetent practice messes it up!! read more

I agree with the previous review; total assembly line! I scheduled my appointment immediately after their lunch hoping I would be first on the Doc's list. I arrived 15 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork. I was called back for my appointment about 15 minutes late. The assistant was good (thus the single star rating). She asked me questions and performed some general exam stuff. I spent about ten minutes with her. Then she left me in the exam room. And there I sat for 45 minutes; thank goodness for my iphone! Finally, I poked my head out of the room and Dr. Sergeant was exiting another room. She replied "you're next" and entered. Not even a "hello", "Any complaints", nothing. She did the "Is 1 better than 2" bit, scribbled the prescription and said I could leave. She spent a total of 7 minutes with me. Yes, I did time her. Upon leaving, I stopped by the contact lens department to order my contacts. John helped me and obtained my benefit info. As we were preparing the order, he asked if I intended to get glasses. My response was yes. He mentioned that the eyeglass benefits were better than the contact benefits. So he suggested I pay out of pocked for the contacts. I agreed, paid and left. When trying to get my glasses, I was told that my benefits were used at Texan Eye. Evidentially John never called back my insurance to release the benefits so I could get glasses. When I called over to have John release it, I got voice mail. I hit zero got the operator and she transferred me to someone in insurance. Got voice mail again. Again I hit zero. Speaking to the operator I told her that I needed to speak to someone now as I was getting my glasses. She replied that the staff must be with other customers and that I needed to leave a message. I replied that I am also a customer and John made a mistake when I was there and it needed to be remedied now. Holding for about ten minutes, finally I got a promise that the situation would be fixed in the next fifteen minutes; which it was. I will never again go to Texan Eye! I've been going to the same ophthalmologist for 35 years. I have never been to an optometrist before today and I am highly impressed with Dr. Branch and his staff. Everyone from the front desk to the wonderful Brittany did an excellent job. Exceptionally clean facility with the most advanced technology. Dr Wagner performed cataract surgery on both my eyes and now my vision is better than it's been in thirty years. I highly recommend her for your eye care. After trying to find a good eye doctor for my young son, we settled at Texan Eye. We have continued for a little over a year simply because our insurance covers all but the copay, and we thought it would be better to monitor his eyes with the same doctor. Out of all the visits, we have never been seen on time, in fact, several times, we have been seen nearly an hour past our appointment time. The final straw,and the reason I refuse to go back now, is that our doctor, Dr. Dudek, who has been condescending to say the least, flat out accused my husband of lying to her (IN FRONT OF OUR BOYS!) He was not lying, by the way, but she was convinced that she knew better. I have not encountered anyone at Texan Eye who makes me want to stay there. read more

I have been deeply disappointed in the greed I experienced in Dr Stephen Dell's office. I had cataract surgery in 2012 and still require the use of glasses even after spending over $6500 cash. I am not knowledgeable in the insurance process as it is extremely confusing. I do know that I received pre-approval for my cataract surgery from my insurance company. I received my 'Statement of Benefits' which satisfied my $3000 deductible and showed I was due a refund from Dr Dell due to the contract agreement that Dr Dell had with United Health Care. My insurance company has sent Dr. Dell additional payments along with the cash I paid. He has been overpaid but it is impossible to get a refund. I have sent letters, made numerous phone calls and even enlisted the assistance of a representative from my insurance agency. Even a seasoned insurance agent could NOT get Marga (Dr Dell's assistant) to communicate with her. It is beyond my comprehension why a doctor that does the business he does would need to resort to such shoddy business practices. It deeply saddens me that I've spent so much money in monthly insurance premiums, outlay of cash to Dr Dell and still require an 'enhancement' to be able to see which I won't ever be able to afford. read more

I will never go back. After using Texan Eye for many years, receiving mediocre service with NO bed-side manners from the doctor (not even "hello" when she entered the room) the final straw came when several eye problems were "discovered". I was told at my last visit that I have cataracts, glaucoma and eye damage (the eye damage was from using the drug plaquinil for my lupus). I requested three separate times, over the telephone, for a report on these findings be sent to my rheumatologist (lupus doctor) before my next visit with him. From my visit at Texas Eye on AUGUST 30 to my rheumatology visit on OCTOBER. 4, no report was ever sent. My rheumatologist suggested I go to Austin Retina as he has other placquinil taking patients go there for evaluation of the drug and possible eye damage. I went yesterday, and not only received good customer service from several techs and also the doctor, but I also received GOOD NEWS that I do not have eye damage from the placquinil or have cataracts!! He is not sure I have glaucoma (could be pre-glaucoma) and is sending me to a glaucoma specialist for further evaluation. For years I felt like Texan Eye was a meat-grinder...........I was put in and spit out. After my good experience yesterday at a caring, thorough and well managed clinic (the doctor even dictated a letter in front of me to be sent to my rheumatologist today) I have found a new home for my eye care. read more

Texan Eye on Starwood is awesome! The receptionist at the front desk smiled and handed my paperwork to me. While waiting to be called for my appointment, I walked over to the display of frames. There were two very helpful ladies there who helped me look. I cannot see once I take my glasses off so they were giving me some great advice on which frames were best for me. One of the ladies, Bobette, stayed late to help me after my eye exam. I went in for an eye exam and Dr. John Branch was very informative and thorough. His assistant was sweet and friendly. I have always had good experiences at Texan Eye, including the Balcones and Mopac location. Dr. Sargent has been great! I will keep trusting Texan Eye for my eye needs. read more

I made my appointment with ease, Had no prior experience with this Eye Center at all so never even thought to read reviews! So here is how it went: Two days before my appointment I looked them up on the search engine and found the address and phone number and saw all the reviews and thought, OMG, I am NOT going to this place for sure! Then I realized I was doing what I tell my 12 yr old NOT to do, judging a book by its cover....So I decided it would be unfair of me to not try them out, after all I consider myself an outgoing friendly person. When my appointment day came, I HAD THE WORSE luck ever! My son was driving me because I had pink eye in both eyes and he was very late getting me picked up! My appointment time was at 3:00 that day and because my printer ran out of ink two days before I didn't have any paperwork and needed to be there early, well I knew I was going to be late. After reading all the reviews I thought, cool, they will be so far behind that I wont have to worry to much about being late. However, I am a self conscious person and eager to please so I called the office to let them know I was going to be a little late, maybe about 10 - 15 minutes, I was told as long as I was not more than 15 minutes PAST my appointment time I would be fine. OK I could live with that! Every office has their rules right? So, I get there actually 5 min ahead of time, the staff were talking amongst themselves however I was greeted immediately and given paperwork to get started, before I can even finish the paperwork I am whisked back to the room, The assistant was great, very detailed and spent a good ten minutes with me going over prior surgeries and waiting for the paperwork. When the paperwork was done, the Dr. Came in and was very nice. Examined my eyes, talked to me about Pink eye and gave me some drops to help my eyes heal better. I had absolutely no problem with anyone and even joked with the staff before leaving. I went next door to the Eye Glasses center and WoW, Rexanne was really helpful in ordering my glasses and helping me find ones that had the right look for me, Yay! Do not expect quick service from this location. I wish that I had checked yelp, before calling. I picked this location in Cedar Park, because they open at 8am. I called at that time and I tried to get as early an appointment as possible for my son who was poked in the eye by his 2 year old sister. At first, they claimed that they could not see him until after 10 am. When pressed, they scheduled him at 9:30am. We arrived at 9:20am and began filling out paperwork. When we provided them with the insurance card that had my son listed on it, they said that he wasn't showing up as active in spite of being listed on the card. They also said that if it did not get resolved we would have to private pay for the visit. I had already filled out the paperwork and signed that I would take responsibility for paying for the visit. I sat down to wait for my son to be called back for his appointment. While I was waiting, I called my insurance to inquire about the status of my son. They confirmed that he appeared to have been deactivated. They referred me to my spouse's HR. I spoke with them and they determined a clerical mistake had been made by them when updating discounts and my son had been deactivated from the account. They immediately reactivated him. By this time, I was beginning to seriously question why my son had not been called back for his 9:30 appointment. The desk staff said that they did not even put his chart up to inform the doctor of his arrival until after the insurance cleared. More than an hour and a half after arrival, we were finally called back from the waiting room. My son was briefly assessed by a technician, then we were left to wait again in a back room. The back room we were left to wait in was very cold. My ten year old son commented that we went from waiting to waiting. If we are going to be waiting for more than thirty minutes in a back room without being seen after waiting for more than an hour an a half in a waiting room, there should be some form of entertainment for children in the back room. read more
