While this will still be the vet I choose I think. I did just have an experience with Heidi in the office that will drop my 5 stars to 4. Lacys tummy had a reaction to the nexgard plus. I called with concerns and questions about whether to administer again or not as she had puked it all up. Heidi assumed I wanted my money back and I was met with less than kind conversation at first. She changed her tune and apologized only after I spoke up about it. In the end the internet helped me with my question more than a call to the vet did. Not a 5 star experience this time. read more

2 years later and still loving this office. We had some concerns during the Shepherd's annual and the Doc took the time to gather all the information I had. She gave her a thorough exam where we determined she might have an ACL tear. She went over supplements in detail and what ingredients to look for when deciding on brands and what those ingredients do. She went over a treatment plan. Echo went back for shots and blood draws without incident and came back tail wagging. Again, this is a dog that my previous vet insisted I drug her prior to coming in and Hillcrest managed her even when she was guarded due to her injury. Despite her discomfort Echo trusted the Doctor and tech while they examined her. Having everything explained in a non-rushed manner really helps me when making big decisions. read more

Last week we saw Dr. O'Day(not sure on spelling) who is new to the practice and he was outstanding. Not only was her very thorough with both my dogs, he knew what their breed was prone to and paid close attention to their hearts as they are Cavaliers and are prone to heart conditions. He was very nice to me and my boys. We love Dr. Anderson so I was a little nervous about seeing a different doctor but I believe Dr O'Day is a great addition to the team. Unfortunately, I could not catch my cat to get her in her carrier even though there were two of us trying, I had to cancel my appointment. The desk person was sympathetic and she said would refund my $90 deposit but she wanted to ask someone The person she asked said no. I'm out a lot if money. This is a lot of money for someone who lives on Social Security. I find this bad business. I hadn't used there service before and certainly won't ever, plus, I'll tell people about this out come. I've been taking my cat here ever since I adopted him, even though I now live nearly 30 minutes away. The people here are extremely competent, kind, and caring - you can tell how much they care about each and every animal they treat, always giving my cat plenty of pets and treats when I take him in. I was especially nervous when taking my cat to get neutered, since my previous cat passed away being neutered at a different vet. However, the staff at Hillcrest were seriously amazing! They happily answered my countless questions before/after the surgery, called me throughout the day with updates about how he was doing, and let me take him home as soon as they were done monitoring him. This place gets zero stars, but it won't let me do that so I'm forced to put one. This is why. Due to the high likes of this Vet, we settled on them to schedule an appointment for our cat Winston. We are somewhat still settling in to our community and needed to find a new vet for our cat. Our appointment was for 1/24 and we accidentally put 1/25 in our calendar. Human error. When scheduling our appointment we were told that an $80 deposit was required to get him on the books. This is fine, but we were NEVER told that they would keep the entire $80 if we missed the appointment! I can understand a cancellation fee of some sort for this happening, but seriously???! Dentist's and doctors alike will generally charge humans a cancellation fee of $25-$35 understandably, but $80 for my pet??? Plus the fact that we would be new customers, and you're going to do business this way, is unacceptable. We will make sure to spread the word of how you do business to make a buck. Just horrible! We tried to talk to them, and they wouldn't budge. I could understand a fee, even half of our deposit, but the full $80 is ridiculous. I did not ask for a song and dance reply. I was not sharing an experience. I'm stating a fact that you are ripping us off, clear and simple. The fact that you said you care about our cat is BS! You want another $80 deposit to reschedule the appointment??? You're out of your mind. I don't care if you're a family owned business, you don't burn people just because you can! $40 seemed fair. This place is in business for the money, my dog had a prepuse infection several times, and got it again, called to get the meds needed and they wouldn't provide it without an appointment and couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks, had to go to SAGE, $900 and all day at the vet later got the $20 worth of meds needed. Hillcrest no longer has our business. Would not recommend bring your animals here. They only care about the money not your animal. And then there's Heidi at the front desk, how she has a job working with people is beyond me, she is so rude and talks down to you like she is some kind of queen. We know several other people that go here and no one can say anything good about her. The techs Andria and Megan are great people. read more

This was my first time here as my regular vet was booked up for a month and Hillcrest had an opening the next day to see my sick cat. The staff was really pleasant upon my arrival. My cat was seen by Dr. Rensink who is now my most favorite Veterinarian because of her overall sweet, warm, kind, caring demeanor in addition to her competency. She took the time to explain possible things that might be going on with my cat, because a lot of times with cats, who knows! We never did figure it out but fortunately my cat had a miraculous recovery in a few days. I will definitely return here first for any future veterinary care. read more

I was nervous at first about having a new team, but the new staff has exceeded my expectation. Each and every member of the team has been so kind and understanding. My experience with Hillcrest Vet in Pleasant Hill has always been nothing less than exceptional. I have seen all of the doctors there, but Dr. Terri Lamp is my "regular vet". When she has not been available for an emergency, the other doctors have been readily availble. And the rest of the staff are top notch as well. But this review is about my recent "visit" to the office for an "emergency" visit. During this Corvid-19 SIP, the hospital is doing a wonderful job of insuring not only the safety of their staff, but the safety of their patients and owners. A letter was sent out to all of their clients stating what their new procudures were going to be during this SIP, and I thought it was wonderful!! It showed that they were doing all they could to make sure they were going to remain available to care for our beloved pets, and keep the safety of all at the fore front. Clients remain in their cars, staff come out gloved and masked and take the animal into the hospital for the care that they need. Needed conversations between doctor and owner are conducted over the phone. Payment is taken over the phone and pet returned to you waiting in your car. This means that now a staff person remains with your animal at all times instead of the owner doing this. So staff is being used in ways that they haven't been used before, thus giving them less time for their previous duties. And they are doing it with loving care, concern and a smile on their face. Hillcrest Is a no nonsense mom and pop owned Vet. these are rare! The drs care, the staff cares and even willing to suffer for their patients. My guinea pigs and soon my dog will have a new dr! one of the last good ones around! Dr Anderson did thorough exams on my two guinea pigs. he told me what was the best plan for my ill baby, and the nurses showed me step by step how to care for him at home. most Vets won't take small animals seriously, but they have a side for dogs and a side for small/exotic and cats! read more

This was our first visit to Hillcrest. We saw Dr. Lamp. My boy was severely abused as a young puppy and is not good around people or other animals, therefor he needs to be sedated to be seen. He survived a bad house fire and has respiratory issues, and sedation can seriously complicate things. It took 3 sedative shots to get him where he could be handled and turned a 20 minute visit into a 3 hour ordeal, but Dr. Lamp hung in there with us and took care of every issue with my boy so he wouldn't need to come back for a while. The most important thing she did was made sure the last sedative he got was reversible incase he started having respiratory issues. The last vet I saw over sedated him, he went into respiratory failure and he almost died right there. Dr. Lamp listened to my concerns about sedation and took care of my 142 lb. baby like he was her own. Thank you Dr. Lamp! read more

Just finished our first well kitten check with Dr. Anderson after being referred by a friend. The staff was exceptionally kind and welcoming. Dr. Anderson took a significant amount of time explaining health concerns and the pros and cons of vaccinations. Very knowledgeable and practical explanations and recommendations for the new kitten. This will be our vet of choice. Update: Came back in for check up. Dr. Anderson spent 45 minutes just talking about preventive health. Being a relatively new (and paranoid) pet parent to an older GSD, I find myself frequenting this place quite often. Mind you, my heart palpitates everytime we visit because I know it's gonna be a lot $$$ Still, we choose to stay with Hillcrest mainly for the exceptional love and care they give to my baby. Funny you'd expect my dog to avoid this place but he merrily enters the clinic, to be called "handsome" by the techs. Doctors are quite thorough. I've had the pleasure to consult with all three doctors and they seem relentless i trying to find a solution. My dog is particularly enamored with Dr. Lamp. I can smell a yeast infection from 30 feet away. And Bax had one in his ear. Poor little chap. Second trip to Hillcrest was as amazing as the first. Dr. Asseo and the gang really do care about their patients and their respective owners. Bax gained three pounds since his last visit, so no more avocado and cheese for my little fatty. But you know what? He was skinnier than a super model fresh after a purge when I got him so he can slide with a borderline BMI these days. I got some great advice on the infection, some yeast-be-gone juice for his ear, and recommendations for brushing his teeth and local dog parks since Heather Farms is closed because it rained twice a month ago. Another great visit... I wouldn't dare take Baxter anywhere else. Some intangibles: quick appointment, zero wait, clean premises, thorough explanation of billing. Plus, I even got to check out Bax's yeastie pals under the microscope. That is a big deal for a closet science geek! Best vet ever! Best of all? I have to say that thestaff are really nice and I appreciated how the vet got on the floor with Murphy. He was very friendly and spent a lot of time with us. I had a "bad" experience today, however, regarding a refill of pain meds. I did not know it, but they insist on seeing Murphy every 6 months which I think is ridculous b/c he's 12 y.o. and doing just fine. Also, the vet recommended I get his teeth cleaned which was an astronomical amount of money - the last vet said he was fine. I always felt like they were recommending this and that - trying to get more money out of me than was needed. I would rec'd this vet for general health, but I thought they were pricey and tried to sell me on things I didn't need. I am definitely switching. p. read more

Crowded, hot office. Female vet (not currently on their website) was very loud/hyper with my dog and had a rather obnoxious personality preaching about dog dental care when my dog has perfect teeth. I paid for a full exam on my dog, but the vet neglected to inspect her skin, underside genital area, or ears. When I noticed an obvious genital skin condition a few days later and tried to schedule a follow-up appointment, they refused to waive the second exam fee of $55 and claimed the vet's notes proved that the genital area was "normal" at the time of the first exam. This was a lie because the vet never even inspected this!! Horrible experience here. read more

Not sure what to make of this place which kind of sux b/c my animals are like my children and I can't get a solid read on this place. While on the surface it seems normal, there is a pervasive feeling of upselling going on in the background. -Constantly. I get it, it's a business but profiting off of unnecessary testing or sickness in general is odd to me. The upselling is mainly from the older gal in the pig tails, Andrea is always sweet and seems like she's working to keep it sane there. She def seems on the side of the patients and their most of the time CRAZY pet owners. As others have reviewed, I never see the same doctor either, but ALL the doctors we have seen were phenomenal. The new one, Dr Anderson pulled a dog whisperer move on my EXTREMELY stressed out terrier mix who gets so out of control upset, he jumps off the walls, excessively pants and is tied in knots beside himself w/terror of what's coming! It usually takes him a while to come down once we get back home and all is normal again. Dr Anderson picked up the little stress ball of a dog and Blackie immediately stopped freaking out, stopped the hard panting and was ENTIRELY relaxed. -HAPPY even! It was the MOST shocking display of instantaneous & absolute okay-ness I've ever witnessed. -WTH? I'll deal with the admins for now, but a word about tact to some of the front desk staff may be in order while dealing with such an emotional trigger for people like a sick or injured pet. read more

I drive 30 minutes because the staff is amazing! I followed a few of their coworkers from another... not to be named hospital. These special staff members used work right down the street from my house, and slowly they all started going to Hillcrest. They truly care about their clients and they don't discriminate-regardless of how many legs they have... or lack of. (?) not sure about unicorns. But I still recommend them . I've been taking my two dogs to Hillcrest since moving to Pleasant Hill about two years ago. I've never been particularly happy with them, but today was the final straw. Their exams are VERY short and cursory. Weight and temperature... then immediately onto up-selling services like vet insurance and dental cleanings. There is zero attempt to actually create a relationship with you or your pets - I've seen a different doctor every time I've been there. The techs are rude and also money driven. If I'm there for one dog, and I even dare to ask a simple yes/no question about the other, the response is - you need a separate appointment for that.... it's all about the money. But today marks the end. I received a "Shot reminder" card in the mail yesterday - postmarked November 30 - "reminding" me that one dog is due for a Kennel Cough vaccine on Dec 1! What is the point of a reminder if they send it out ONE DAY in advance?? Because of this, I couldn't take the dogs to daycare this week. If they can't get even a simple automated reminder card right, I certainly don't want them caring for my pets. I'll be getting this shot at VIP while I look for a vet that actually cares about my dogs more than my wallet. read more

I was introduced to this clinic by a good friend who knows one of the vets. She assured me they were very caring and helpful. I was a little hesitant but after taking our new puppy in for two visits now I have to say she was completely right! My pup was nervous at first but after reassurance from every member of the staff, she was happy and at home in no time at all. Everyone that saw her took their time making sure she was comfortable before poking and proding her. I really appreciated this extra time to make sure she doesn't learn to fear the vet. They took this extra time even though they were completely booked and very busy. While not the cheapest, I feel their prices were competitive and comparable to most decent places in the area. They are also honest and up front about all charges, so nothing is a surprise at the end. I will definitely continue bringing my dog there. I also have a cat who is terrified of the vet so I will update again after bringing him in for a visit to compare. read more
