I'm extremely disappointed with how drastically the quality of care and customer service at this animal clinic has declined. What used to feel like a place focused on helping animals now feels rushed, impersonal, and centered around pushing medication rather than providing thoughtful, compassionate solutions. Throughout my experience, there seemed to be very little effort to discuss alternative options or genuinely address the root of my dog's issues. Instead, the only solutions presented involved continuously prescribing more medication without much explanation or care for long-term wellbeing. What was even more frustrating was being charged a "service fee" that staff could not clearly explain when asked. If clients are expected to pay additional fees, there should at minimum be transparency and professionalism regarding what those charges are actually for. I understand veterinary medicine is difficult and clinics are busy, but compassion, communication, and honesty should still be basic standards of care. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unheard, overcharged, and far less confident in the clinic than I once was. Stay away from this place. read more

My partner and I are eternally grateful for choosing Sun Valley Pet Hospital for our elderly cat's (Kitty) end of life care. It was a very difficult and vulnerable time for us, and every single worker was patient and compassionate. Prior to his euthanasia appointment, the doctors and vet assistants worked closely with us for weeks and ensured every test and every option was considered to determine a strong diagnosis. During this process, not ONCE did they push euthanasia.. they left it up to us to decide that which is something we appreciated very much. They reassured us that they were able to be reached via email, text and/or call to update them on Kitty's treatment at any time. They were responsive and on top of every little thing. Of course, Kitty was a 16 year old bombay and could not function like a normal cat any longer even with the extensive treatment that was prescribed to us. His health deteriorated rapidly due to his illness (hyperthyroidism) that not even the medicine could treat. We then had to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives to put him down so he can finally live a life of peace. Thank you to the health care team (Dr. Narg, Sheila, Leah, Marissa, and many more) for treating Kitty, my partner and I with so much tender care and I will never forget how comfortable you all made us feeling during this very hard transition. If I could give zero stars I would. This place will charge you for "service" fees yet will not specify exactly what these services entail when you ask them. They recently charged me a 30 dollar service fee for a single medication and compared it to a delivery fee from chewy? No, it's nowhere close to a delivery fee. You are charging me for labeling and handing me the medication I am already paying for? Excuse me but that is ridiculous. This place is just looking to add any ridiculous fees where they can. The ladies at the front desk will also talk to you in a condescending manner if you even ask them a question of the sort. Just a completely money hungry establishment. On top of it, my dog has seen a different vet every single time we have had a regular check up which ends up causing further confusion for his care. My dog does not need to have a $80 dollar check up every time we need to refill his daily medication for a condition we have established over and over again. Money is the only thing they care about. My dog was ill from something he ate and they suggested trimming his nails and getting an allergy shot. Finally was given charcoal to get out the toxins. I am in shock. My 13 year old dog who has been struggling to breathe for months on end (she has struggled for years but much worse these last 3 months). Wandering the house all night long because she can't settle and sleep. Coughing 24/7. Unable to catch her breath. No interest in playing. Just not well. They refused to help us lay her to rest. Acting like we haven't agonized over this decision for weeks. A doctor who had never seen her before besides for 5 minutes decided she doesn't deserve peace. I always assume people go into this industry because they loved animals, but it's clearly not. I've had a horrible time with this place getting my dog re-diagnosed for EPI which is a lifelong illness. It involves excessive amounts of fluids coming out from all ends of your pet. If not kept on several expensive supplements and medication your Pet starves to death. We came from a different Animal Hospital already diagnosed. And apparently at this place your Pet it's required to come back every year and get re-diagnosed for the same condition. That means every year you have to come back and pay for an office visit and bloodwork to get the same prescriptions you need. Their prescriptions are crazy marked up. One supplement they gave me was $150 and I found it online for 25. You could find much better prices if you outsource and research. However, this place I repeatedly said I wanted handwritten prescriptions, and I did not want the meds from them, however between two visits two different doctors and five different vet assistance I still found myself arguing at the front desk with three of the 5 prescriptions as pills and not written prescriptions. When I questioned them they said I wouldn't be able to find those anywhere else. Which ended up being a total lie cause as soon as I got home, I found them all online for way cheap. We also figured out that the liver supplements they sold us were totally unnecessary because. The take enzymes for the EPI which explains why they would test high in the liver. Duh what med school did the go to..? When we called and spoke to them and explained that we were unable to afford the prescription on top of the thousand dollars that we already owed. They were totally rude and unable to work with us. The manager was going to call and never did. They rather lose our business because the next suckers right behind. This place is a trap and they use your poor sick pet as leverage against you. $85 office visits every year. $300 for bloodwork every year. With a lifetime subscription! (to re-diagnose) plus multiple meds with every meal well over $300 a month worth plus special food $120 a month Which they also sell you. They either want me to go broke or want my dog dead. Luckily, we love our baby and we take great care of her and we will find another way despite this place. read more

Been going to Sun Valley Pet Hospital for a couple years now. Experience has been overall ok to good, however every time we go it seems the prices are going up up up. When I saw the tech today to checkin my dog he let me know there would be a quote provided to me after the doctor saw my dog. Then I could decide if I want to follow the plan of care. When he later came in and showed me the quote I was shocked. He commented that they have done the research in the Bay Area what vets charge for services and have adjusted their prices accordingly. I was very nervous to bring my cat in for her checkup. She doesn't do well in new environments and can get aggressive when approached by strangers. To my surprise the vet tech (forgot her name) was able to not only bring my cat out of her carrier but also hold her and make her feel safe! She was a total cat whisperer. I have gone to Sun Valley Animal hospital for years and have never been disappointed with the service I've received! They have certainly squeezed me in for a panic (my dog got poisoned by pesticides and luckily they took him in right away and gave him the care he needed, happy healthy 5 years later) and recently my senior cat fell I'll and ultimately passed, but they cared for me in the process of caring for her and didn't put her through anything unnecessary. The veterinarian was honest and compassionate all at the same time. I have seen both Dr. Sharma & Dr. Garg and they are both straight forward and truly care about the animals they see. If I have ever had a non-emergency issue, like a rash, the wait for an appointment has always been reasonable. Also they are able to accommodate evening appointments which is amazing for working families. read more

I meant to write this a while ago. Everything seemed to be fine and my usually angry cat was calm for once. I was hopeful. Then came time for his shot and they brought someone else in to hold him down... he was fighting it a bit but not moving too much, then they tried to administer the shot and missed. Now I understand mistakes happen but this is when things took a turn. My cat was obviously angry now after having been poked in the butt and he ran off and started hissing and trying to hide. I said it was fine if they used the net thing to catch him and try again. They caught him, tried in front of me for a few minutes then said they "had to take him to the back" for more help. I was wary because I do not trust strangers trying to wrangle my baby. He is 15, old, and senile. I reluctantly let them take him back and probably 15 minutes later they brought him out to me in his carrier. I noticed a smell and realized he had pooped in his carrier. I don't know what they did to him or if it was a bodily reaction but they literally scared the *crap* out of him somehow. I will not trust them to take animals in the back because it worries me what they are doing to hold him down when Im not there. Mind you my cat has had many bad vet appointments, and he does not have incontinence, so this shocked me that whatever happened back there made him poop himself. Do not trust these inexperienced vet techs. They should have more training on how to handle these situations and not rush something when I was clearly nervous about what was happening. read more

We called Sun Valley after experiencing our fur baby, Taz , throwing up, coughing, but was still very active. We were referred to Sun Valley after I got very, very upset with our vet we've used the past 11 years. The staff that received my call was so very sweet, showed concern, and made me an appointment for the very next day. I had all documents faxed to Sun Valley and was there on the desk awaiting or us the next evening in a file. Immediately, we were greeted so professionally, met Dr. Sharma , he was perfect! Taz was so comfortable, which is VERY important, they took excellent care of Taz and his daddy's. Dr. Sharma examined Taz, showed us all charges which were NOT high at all. Everything was explained to us. We got Taz's meds and came home where he rested beautifully. The very next day I received 2 calls asking how Taz is! So appreciated! She is on anxiety medication and for some reason it is way more expensive in the US than in Canada so I wanted to use California Pet Pharmacy so I can get large bottles shipped to my house for a fraction of the price. They were able to fill the prescription for me but then they gave me a call and notified me that I have to pay a fee for them to fill each prescription for me! If I remember correctly the fee was $15 more than doubling the cost of the actual prescription. I have the hardest time finding a good reliable vet that isn't trying to take all my money. I ended up having to take my dog to a vet in San Francisco that will do this service for free! read more

This is my 4 year old cat, Kito! She's 4 years old and unfortunately last month we got the horrible news, she had Pyometra. She wasn't going make it if she didn't get emergency surgery in less than a couple days, it was such a scary experience. I started calling every vet around my area, hoping for something and I'm so glad Sun Valley Animal Hospital took us in the same day. I came here for the first time on Sunday. The receptionist with the eyelash extensions was kind to let us in even though we were super early. I filled out forms and they called us back to the exam room. Vet was a knowledgeable man. He told us Michi was actually a girl when the paperwork I received from my neighbor said that Michi was a boy. So we thought he was a boy for about six years. Anyway, the doctor was very thorough & kind and gave me the necessary medication that was needed. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the bill was only $210 when I was thinking it was going to be something outrageous that I would never be able to afford. I was impressed- Sun Valley really is a more affordable version of Sage. Once your pet is sick, these bills can pile up quickly. My first impression was how positive, friendly and understanding the staff was. There were a few hostile pet owners, and the staff was so kind and understanding of the stress associated with bringing a sick animal into the clinic. The final bill was about 60-70% of what Sage would charge. Sage offers many perks, but affordability isn't one of them. The doctor was great- Compassionate and understanding of cost constraints, offering multiple solutions. He even followed up the next day! If your expectations are Sage, just go to Sage. But for my money, Sun Valley took fantastic care of my cat at a much lower cost without sacrificing quality. They were super friendly, positive and personable in the process, and they cared enough to follow up afterward. These are the kinds of businesses we should support- Great job, Sun Valley! read more

Great experience this Sunday. Starting with Jaclyn the receptionist, she was SO nice and helpful and willing to go above and beyond to get me and my hurt cat in. Next by Grace the best tech/assistant girl, so sweet and calming and patient with me. Lastly by the amazing Dr. Garg. She agreed to see us same day on a super busy day and totally took care of my cat and handled it so well and so fast and was very honest and fair. Then the next day they called to check in on us! Believe all the bad reviews. We had a really bad experience with this hospital, particularly Dr. Garg. We brought our 3 months old puppy to get his second shot and we told the vet that he seems to be tired all the time. Dr. Garg examined him and started throwing random baseless diagnoses: open wounds, pneumonia, infected ear, etc.. none of which turned out to true. So She ended up doing a blood test. Same day she called us to report they didn't find anything in his blood test. Later we asked to see the test results and noticed that some of the values were out of the normal rage. When we called Dr. Garg to ask why she said their machine doesn't work properly!!!! so basically she admitted that they test and charge people for the tests with a broken and unreliable machine!!!! Believe it or not it gets worse! Since our dog didn't get better and we still didn't know what is wrong with him we kept asking around till someone suggested he might have worms. So naturally we called Dr Garg to ask about that possibility and she straight up lied to us and said we have given him his first dose of dewormer and will continue with the second dose the next visit. We had the records of what they gave him and even checked with one of the staff later and no dewormer was given to our dog. So we got deworming medicine ourselves and gave it to our puppy which worked like magic. He pooped worms and felt much better instantly. So basically we paid more than $300 for a fake blood test and a lie and she failed to diagnose something as basic and simple as common worms with our puppy. There are so many vets out there who have actual knowledge/talent and more importantly work ethics. Spend some time and find them and avoid this place or at least Dr Garg (her). read more

We have been bringing our pup to Sun Valley since we got him, because they had been my boyfriend's trusted vet in the past for his previous dog. Though, now we will not be returning. I called about my other dog, that I got before I had ever known my boyfriend or gone to Sun Valley. He was rapidly declining with stomach cancer, and it came time to put him down. Sun Valley was the first place I called and, I will say, I was a wreck. I had him for just short of 14 years. He was the best thing that had ever happened to me-- a member of my family-- and I had to decide that it was his time to go. However, when I began to cry on the phone after explaining the situation and why I was calling, whoever was on the other side hung up on me. It is because of this intense lack of empathy that we just cannot come back. To be treated so rudely during the hardest time of my life. My dog ended up passing at home, in my arms, hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized at a different vet and, after this whole experience, we won't be returning with our other puppy. read more
