Because of several moves around Northern California, my two dogs have been to five different vets in 15 years and Geary Veterinary Hospital is hands down the best. Everyone at Geary is polite, caring, professional, and competent. Vet appointments never felt rushed and my questions were always answered. I never felt like I was being upsold on a procedure or product - something I can't say about some of the other clinics I have gone to. I was always able to get my dogs seen within a reasonable amount of time, often the same day or early the following day. The vets and staff also followed up via calls, texts, or emails to see how my dogs were doing after starting a new treatment or recovering from a procedure. It was obvious that everyone at Geary truly cares for animals and their well-being. The vets are excellent and consult with one another to ensure that my dogs treatments were always consistent and based on the most recent visit, regardless of whether a different vet saw them. Staff go above and beyond to assist with getting a prescription quickly filled, an appointment made if a last minute cancellation occurred, etc. I would highly recommend Geary Veterinary Hospital to those in the Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Lafayette area. I hate having to write this review, and I don't know where to begin... Five stars aren't enough to rate this place. Dr. Hamilton and her staff deserve 100 stars! This office excels in expertise and professionalism, from the veterinarians to the caring attention provided by the technicians. What I admire most about Dr. Hamilton is her objective approach. She's down-to-earth and carefully weighs the pros and cons of your pet's treatment, ensuring that you can make an informed decision. At that point, I just handed her staff my credit card and told them to take all of my money--she's that good! The technology this office uses to communicate with current and future patients is outstanding compared to other veterinary offices in the area. Depending on the time of day, parking can be a bit challenging since this veterinary clinic is located in a strip mall that includes a grocery store, several restaurants, and an exercise facility. I really don't want other people to discover this place, but I also want to keep Geary Veterinary in business, so I'm in a bit of a conundrum. We took our 16 year old Terrier to Geary Vet to address aging issues. Keeping her healthy & comfortable without invasive intervention is our goal. She has some arthritis and all the lumps & bumps one would expect. She has slowed down considerably but is still enjoying her regular activities. Dr Yoshida gets five flying stars for a thorough exam, his thoughtful questions & thorough answers to our many questions. We walked out with a sound plan, a medication that will address her arthritis, and the confidence we chose the right vet as we navigate her final years. read more

I took my toy poodle to this clinic for many years and was completely satisfied with the services more than a year ago. The clinic changed ownership's.. I have not returned to this clinic after I was charged $500 for blood test and was told that the teeth clean would cost $2500. I started visit Geary Vet Hospital 20 years ago when Dr. Asta was my pet's doctor. He no longer here retired. When i started to make appt. for my pets the owner will always take the appointment and i was not happy, she kept my dog in the room barking for hour not attending to her. I made complaint to her this was around 2009. After that she got me in some kind of black-list. I would call make appointment for other pets they would gave me run-arounds.. asking for deposit, and gave me an Asian doctor because I am Chinese. I would still go when the situation was desperate for my cat, The Korean vet (dr. Sue?) she charge me for the exam and gave me an estimate like 3 or 4,000 for dental extraction, and extra for tests, i approved then I guess someone (the owner?) asked her to cancel my appointment after i paid for exam and medication to go home. .. she refer'd me to see a vet in Dublin, I am a 70 years old senior i can't drive to Dublin she left me in this mess. I found a good vet now my cat is safe now!! Becareful this place is a scammer. read more

Their consistent expertise, thoughtful advice, kindness and care dealt with many health challenges like arthritis, poor vision/hearing, heart ailments and even .seizure issues. They always made the time needed for appointments and followed up re. multiple medications. After a lifetime with 7 dogs with various vets in the Bay Area, they are no. 1 in our book for the professional and love they extended to my family. We are forever grateful. read more

After 4 hours and a large invoice, with no answers, we went to our regular veterinary doctor, Dr. Hamilton. She was thoroughly engaged with our issues. We have been bringing our dog, Daisy, to Geary Veterinary Hospital for a few years now. We have had great experiences here and are thankful to have found an office with such caring staff. The veterinarians usually kneel or sit on the ground with our dog, trying to keep her as calm and relaxed as possible. You can tell they truly love animals and aren't thinking about money first. We've had issues with other vets in the past, so we are thankful for the wonderful veterinarians and staff at Geary. Several months ago, our dog became ill and we weren't sure what the cause was. Our vet was so sweet and gentle with her, and provided us with a plan of what tests and medications they wanted to start her on. We appreciated the vet wanting to take a few steps at a time and evaluate the first plan, instead of doing every test imaginable and leaving us with an unnecessarily large bill. I have had problems finding a decent vet since moving to Pleasant Hill 2 years ago. We started our pets at Banfield and found that we were getting close to zero care and attention, only to get the sales pitch to buy into their monthly treatment plan. Based on the reviews, I made an appointment for my dog at Geary and was not disappointed! My dog has been in and out of shelters his entire life until he was adopted by my husband and I. He has MAJOR anxiety at the vet so I was pretty nervous that I couldn't be at his side due to the office Covid protocols. The staff at Geary were extremely warm and welcoming and I knew that my dog was going to be in great hands. My dog ended up chewing through his leash while in the office (he has done this before when nervous), but the staff at Geary ended up refunding the cost of the leash onto my final bill. I thought that was very generous! When the doctor came out to explain what was going on with my pup's issues, he was extremely thorough, nice, and did not push anything on me. It's so rare to find an office like this that truly seems to care about your pet and not just charging office vet fees only to rush patients in and out. When the time comes for my cats appointments, they will be coming to Geary too! read more

During covid we need to switch vets and after some research and word of mouth we landed on Geary vet hospital. ALL of our experiences with them has been beyond 5 starts. We've gone maybe 5-6 time this year. This last time our 3 1/2 year old Rottweiler, Paxton began itching like crazy. After a good 45 min consultation with Dr. Hamilton (who I think is part owner of the practice) gave him a shot. Ever since then she has texted me to check in on our sweet boy every few weeks, as a first time dog parent this is something you dream about. Her attention to detail, the love and care and patience she has provided is like nothing else. We appreciate Dr. H and everyone at Geary so much we highly recommend them. I don't even really want to write this based off the owners responses to prior complaints. After a botched surgery in which my cats testicle was left open, as their "standard practice". It became abscessed and infected, despite my efforts to keep it clean. They gave me a cone that was too small and he repeatedly stabbed him self. I live 45 minutes away and didn't even want to go back but I figured they'd give some courtesy given the circumstances. That did not happen. The owner bashed her own employee and then gave me a run down of what was to happen next without really giving me any other option. She did not offer condolences or even a discount for having to return or have my poor kitty go through this. $800 and a very Frankenstein looking genitalia later - what was supposed to be an easy cat neuter was a grueling 3 week ordeal. Been going there for very long time but since they have been bought out by someone or something else they have lost their loyalty to all their older clients in order to gain new clients. All about the money than the care and well being of their older clients. I could not get my dog who suffers from bad allergies for a shot from a tech for a month!!! So now he is suffering big time!!! Today my other dog woke up with very bad eye problem and they could not see him. Told me to go somewhere else for eye problems can be serious like he could loose his eye!!! We have relied on Geary Vet Hospital through 3 dogs. Dr. Bjork, Dr. Hamilton and now Dr. Weiss have all been wonderful and caring. They have gone above and beyond. It was a Saturday morning when our doggie, Agnes just couldn't do it anymore. We called expecting an answering machine. Dr. Bjork told us to bring her in, (He was already with a patient whose dog had died that morning). He was sooo caring for both Agnes and us. He left the room for us to say goodbye and then rejoined us, with tears for us and her. Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Weiss, the same compassion...... Now we have Wanda, 15 1/2 years old and Sadie. Both doctors are "on it" and at the same time realistic and non-judgmental. They were there for everyone during the pandemic and did their very best. We had been taking our dog to Geary for the past 9 years and unfortunately the care has gone down hill. First of all they STILL aren't allowing you to enter with your pet due to covid....I can tell you that other vets in the area are. For a couple of years we were always seeing someone different so we never felt like anyone got to know our dog. The front desk staff can be rude. Within 4 months of changing practices our dog who was unable to walk is now up and about and able to get around on his own. I'm sorry you aren't happy with my review...my dogs inability to walk and the way it was treated was just the final straw...prior to this incident he had been given a vaccination he had already received, he was apparently muzzled in order to get his nails cut but I was never told that...only found that out once all his records were printed and given to me. Then I was told over the phone one of us could go in with him to get his nails trimmed and then it wasn't allowed. I left work to go pick up medication I was told was ready and when I got there it wasn't and I ended up having to return the next day.As for the walking issue...he was given medicine that I RESEARCHED AND DECIDED TO TAKE HIM OFF OF IT ON MY OWN...at which time he already was more himself. Long conversations about how to help him?? All of the ideas that actually helped..like yoga mats on the floor so he wouldn't slip and a harness to lift him with came from a different vet. The Assisi Loop may have been helpful except we were told to put it on his legs which was a waste of time (and money) since the issue was in his spine. Rather than trying to "guess" what was wrong and just dispense medication it would have been better to admit it was beyond your expertise. He went to more than 2 other "specialists" so I have experience with all of them also. As for your covid policy I still receive your newsletter so as far as I know you still aren't allowing people in. I am well aware of how your industry has been affected by covid due to all the wait times I experienced everywhere...the main difference ultimately is the way not only my pet was handled but also how we were treated. I wish you all the best but please understand that people are entitled to opinions and others have the right to hear the good and the bad and make decisions for themselves based on such reviews. My decision to make the review came after dealing with so many other veterinary practices and realizing the difference. read more

Review for Dr. Tillman: Very disappointed and concerned about the care that I received here. My greyhound had a teeth cleaning here and she completely missed signs of dental disease, including inflammation and gum recession. Fast forward 4 months and now he has a hole in his gum! It's his canine tooth so it should have been easy to see, especially considering that he was sedated. Via email, Dr. Tillman acknowledged that there was " inflammation above the root of the tooth 4 months ago... and now there is a hole in the gum, I am really concerned that his canine tooth root may have an abscess." No mention of any issue with the tooth in her notes/record. Her notes were essentially no loose teeth, no signs of pockets. I spoke with her via phone and she agreed that there was redness/inflammation at the time of the cleaning. But, this was not brought to my attention. Why? Apparently because she did not notice it or think it was concerning. Unacceptable. Dr. Tillman had a somewhat casual attitude about the situation and seemed disconnected from the conversation. She waffled back and worth between stating that if they had a dental x-ray machine, she would have taken an x-ray, to later saying "I couldn't have taken an x-ray. He wasn't under anesthesia." Huh?? How about bringing an issue to my attention and making a professional recommendation? The thing is, I took my dog here because of the anesthesia free option. Turns out, that's not a good way to go anyway. If you are considering a teeth cleaning by Dr Tillman, I would reconsider. Do your research on anesthesia free dental - it's not worth it. You could be putting your pet's health in serious danger. read more
