    RIP Wilson
    Kami S.

That dreaded day came for us, the day you have to make the gut wrenching decision to send your animal across the rainbow bridge. Our 16 year old cat woke me early last Monday squalling, the kind of squalling they make when they go for a car ride. I found him in the hallway unable to use his hind legs, poor baby was army crawling with this front legs to try and get down stairs. I picked him up, it was obvious something had happened. I stayed up with him the rest of the evening as his breathing had started to get labored and I didn't want him to die alone. He survived the night so first thing in the morning, I started calling veterinary offices to inquire about euthanasia. Most I called wanted upwards of $700 to put Wilson out of his misery. I was flabbergasted!!!! Then I called VEG, our experience for such an awful experience was amazing. They met my daughter and I at the door, we were immediately taken to a table where a team of at least 5 started to work on our poor boy. The doctor agreed, it was in Wilson's best interest to be humanely put to sleep. They got IV access and then escorted us to a comfortable private room. Wilson was laid on a blanket on a couch where we could be with him, the doctor came in and explained everything she was going to do and what we might or might not see from Wilson. At 10:00am, Wilson crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I cannot THANK VEG enough for helping our sweet kitty, for being so supportive of us. They were professional, they were personable and I am very happy with our experience of VEG.

Sophie had a seizure while getting groomed. The great folks at Pets Smart rushed her to the vet. VEG took really good care of her. Big shout out to the day & evening doctors and their staff. Everyone was helpful & calming. We learned some new things and everything turned out fine. #HighlyRecommended "if necessary"

My poor baby had a prolonged bout of diarrhea. That may not sound serious, but I became deeply afraid after over a week that she was becoming dehydrated or that it was something life-threatening. We had never been to VEG before but our vet recommended it so my husband brought our girl there. He said that everyone was so compassionate, all of the staff truly show up in a way that makes you feel like they care about your pup. And they took our concerns seriously rather than dismissing it. I am so glad they did because the testing revealed potential unknown dangers lurking (growths on her organs). Ultimately, we did eventually identify the presumed source of her diarrhea as being related to the pesticide that is being sprayed in our neighborhood on the sidewalks and Roundup in the grass. The treatment was very effective, ranging from dietary support to probiotics to stool bulking methodologies and subcutaneous fluids to address the dehydration. The follow-ups from the vet were very welcome and we really felt like they wanted to make sure our pup was safe long after we had gone home. I actually called them with an update a few weeks later, and the front desk staff connected me to the vet so that she could take the information down. I really appreciated that level of note-taking and individual attention. We now have a long-term plan for the unexpected nodules and her diarrhea resolved. Other things that are notable and very appreciated included the way that they provided an invoice with line items so we could pick and choose which interventions / diagnostics we were comfortable doing. And finally, being able to stay with your dog, aka the open concept, is a beautiful thing. My only regret is that I hadn't taken my other dog, my late soul dog, here when she was ill. I have no doubt that my other dog would either still be with us today or would have passed more peacefully with us beside her if only we had come here instead of the other ER vet we had gone to. It means the world that this type of emergency vet exists.

We had had 2 experiences with VEG, both were great. I had heard this was a great choice, should we have an emergency within our pets. The first was just a phone call. One night one pup was acting strange. She was shaking and super clingy. I called and they had be speak to one of the veterinarians. She asked questions and told me she thought our pup was ok and we could remain at home, coming in if things changed or got worse. In the end, she eventually relaxed and was ok. Our second was with our other pup, who has had gland issues. I was out of town and my husband saw she was starting to have some swelling and knew to take her to VEG. He was very impressed by the whole experience. They let you in, as doors are locked. The facility is mostly a large open space with separate places for each animal to be cared for. They quickly had her examined, determined what was needed and completed the needed procedure. My husband was able to be with her most of the time and was encouraged to talk to her and pet her, as they know it helps keep our babies calm. He was even offered to observe the procedure, though he chose to not look and just pet her. They do have private areas for use as needed. In any emergency, this is where we will be going and highly recommend VEG. Thanks for taking such good care of our pups.

During a stressful moment VEG provided rapid and amazing care to our little 4.lb dog. They were very informative and transparent with their service. Vet tech Zoey and Dr Swan walked us through the recommended medical treatment and gave confidence in proceeding with treatment. The entire team was very kind and attentive and it amazed us with how well equipped this vet ER was. I 100% would recommend this organization. Thank you VEG for providing care for our fur baby.

This place is great!! I've never been to a vet with an open concept like this one. Everyone was very knowledgeable and caring. Although it was on the pricey side, it was nice having my dog in good hands after hours. I would definitely make the drive to VEG in the future if needed. Thank you VEG for helping with Charlie!

I've used another location before. And VEG is consistent in wonderful care for your animal. It's comforting to know I have them 24/7 if something happens. From calling in to the whole situation, my dog and I were cared for. He's a rescue w trust issues. I'm able to be w him the whole way and let the team know his behavior so they can choose the best treatment. And they did. They all must love what they do there as I felt they were there for me through a hard time. And that is what they tell you. 24/7 u can get help. Even the vet will talk to u on phone!

Brought my K9, Sora to VEG yesterday due to blood in stool and vomiting. Dr. Wilkinson and her staff were very kind and attentive to my girl. Highly recommend for emergency doggie visits. Thank you to all the staff. She no longer has blood in her stool and we are currently at the beach back to normal.

    Rockin' the cone.

Dr. Sana Banaeianzadeh and the crew on the night I brought in my dog after an attack were like angels after a six hour ordeal in Berkeley at another emergency clinic...VEG was so far above par in every way. They were professional, efficient, and friendly. The floor plan is open, so you don't have to wonder where they have taken your best friend or if he's okay. I'll never take my dog to another emergency clinic. This place is simply the best I've experienced. The standard of care is through the roof. Well done and thank you team!!

I had to bring my dog in for emergency treatment, and followed with two more visits as I raced to find answers about a sudden onset of seizures in my pup. I came here at the recommendation of my vet, and it is by far the best experience I have had in some pretty scary moments. The biggest thing for me is that they allow me to stay with my dog. I don't have to hand her off, knowing that she is going to be terrified and alone in a cage for the wait period and during treatment. Anti-fear practices were present from the beginning, and my pup was able to be less terrified. VEG helped me navigate through a very stressful situation, over the period of 3 days that I called and/or came in. Each time I was met with patience, empathy, excellent care, and the information I needed to get through each moment. Even the periods where I had to wait for assistance, though long, made it clear just how efficient and professional the staff and doctors are. This will be the only emergency vet I will go to for as long as possible (but hopefully unnecessary). I will mention that I have been to emergency care places in three different states within the last 3 1/2 years, and I stand by this being the best by far.

Just left VEG and all I can say is the staff is amazing, the doctors are horrible! Brought my 15 year old boston in for sudden loss of appetite and vomiting - the doctor never did an exam and was worried about a blockage. No exam at all, yet I am charged for one, and also a miscellaneous $100 fee. To make it even better, the vet techs asked the doctor if she wanted to examine another patient, laughing, as if this doctor has a history of failure to examine. Pretty much paid $1200 for labs, Cerenia, and fluids, all while sitting in a waiting area! I have 3 dogs, a 15 year old with IMHA, another 15yo seen today, and a 9yo that is currently being seen at Sage ophthalmology -- I know what medical care is needed and I know good medical care, VEG care is pure garbage. I will say the vet techs are amazing, caring and personable.

My dog's ear has a hematoma. I drained it once myself, but it immediately filled back up. Would like to have it re-drained and sutured, but local vet was more money than I have. Does anybody know how much something like this would cost at Veg?

They were a bit more expensive than my regular vet because they are an emergency office. However, I did like holiday treated me and my kitty

What are the prices like? I am worried about the cost of it means surgery. The emergency vet I had used in the past (and never will again) charged a HUGE amount even before the actual procedures were done.

It's still pricey, but they communicate before they charge you.. and the care and service that is provided, while expensive is worth it. Just let them know your max... they will also work with you.

Best thing that ever happened was going to Sage as pepper got the care she needed by Vet- Lindsay Swirble. She is the only vet we have gone to in Bay Area that actually has experience with pugs. Dr. Linsey Swirble saved my dog (pepper)with her caring, throughness and experience. My dogs vet would not of even had the required equipment in their office or experience that she had a foxtail (1 inch) lodged behind her eye. She examined my dog with such care even putting dye and a black light to check for laceration. My previous pug lost his eye because a laceration was missed from a bad examination until I took him to an eye specialist a week later who said it was too late and it could of been fixed if diagnosed sooner. If I had taken that dog to Dr. Linsey Swirble at sage I know he would of also had his eye today as my dear pepper . I will drive 2 hours to see her from now on just to get the right care. I have had many dogs and vets over the years and this doctor is the best. She treated my dog like she was her own child. If you think its expensive to get ER care it was not. It was about $60 more then regular vet visit but it got fixed right away, correctly. My dogs eye is worth far more than $60. They have equipment that regular clinics do not and have the best veterinarian in Bay Area Dr. Lindsay Swirble. My only regret was not taking my previous dog there who did lose his eye by 2 regular vet visits that charged and misdiagnosed when I know Dr. Swirble would of known how to fix him the first time by her thoroughness and caring before that dog lost an eye. If you are in doubt if the cost will be too much or the care is any good don't hesitate. Dr. Swirble is amazing and I will go when she is working to make sure my dogs are in good hands. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Despite him being in pain and extra on edge, the team took their time to treat him and make him comfortable. He had a swollen paw and a lot of pain, but we didn't see anything happen to him. The vet was perplexed by his symptoms, because it looked like it could have been a rattlesnake bite, but there wasn't any visible bite mark and we live in West Oakland (literally just surrounded by concrete). This is my second experience where first they wanted to put down my 1 year old kitty who was having urinary problems. I kept asking why they weren't starting him on antibiotics? I asked why are they compounding with stronger pain meds? Obviously his condition is getting worse if you're only treating the symptoms and not the cause. It was almost like they were setting him up for failure (death). They didn't care or listen when I told them I was a Pharmacist and had better recommendations on medication choices. I kept taking him every other day as his condition was worsening and they only kept adding stronger pain meds without identifying and treating the root of the problem. It made my parents sick to hear their suggestion of putting my cat down on the third visit. They didn't have the heart to even tell me that. So, my mom called all of her friends and found a "hero vet" who saved my cat's life. He actually DID start antibiotics and other meds to help with urinary flow and some pain meds to keep him comfortable. He also recommended a wet urinary diet and Calm Probiotics to be mixed in his wet food. We kept him on the meds for a month and he continues to eat his urinary diet. My baby is a healthy 4 year old now. I can't stand the horrific practices at VEG San Ramon. And now just the other day, they put down my friend's cat who was only 6 years old. Again, they couldn't diagnose or identify the problem so they suggested euthanasia. I feel there's a huge conflict of interest in their treatment of our sick pets and their push to get mildly sick pets euthanized and then cremated. This is sadly a scam business. I was so happy when they first opened because I felt a sense of relief having a 24/7 emergency vet nearby. Little did I know their ruthless practices would bring so much pain to pets and their parents. Please don't trust them with the health and wellbeing of your fur babies.

They kept him overnight and into the next day as a precaution. I was a complete mess, dreading the thought of losing him this way. At 12 years old, I know I will face that day eventually, but not like this--due to our own dumb oversight. I'm still sick to my stomach over this crazy situation. We were fortunate to have an exceptionally kind and knowledgeable young veterinarian, Dr. Heeg. It felt like fate brought us to her. Thank you God!!! I'm immensely grateful to the entire staff, not to mention our gratitude to Dr. Walters, who took care of him overnight. This clinic has secured my loyalty for life! Thank you so much, Dr. Heeg! . We are officially adopting you and the clinic!

We were luckily the only ones there so there was peace and quiet and Mighty wasn't scared on his last day. The staff was really compassionate and caring, as if Mighty was their own pet. The process was sad but we deeply appreciate the time they let us have with Mighty and that they explained each time of the process. It was peaceful in the end and my wife and I are relieved that Mighty is no longer in pain and gets to have a nice restful sleep. We've brought Mighty to VCA before and we highly recommend them. Out of all the ERs we've tried, VCA has has the best care for Mighty and they truly know how to handle cats. Thank you VCA staff for all that you've done for our beautiful best boy

I had called ahead and they were able to make an appointment for him right away to save the extra cost of an emergency walk in, my cat was seen immediately and I was able to be in the exam room with him, the staff were knowledgeable and kind and took great care of my fur baby my first visit. It wasn't busy there at all, I returned to pick up additional medications for him and again it was easy in an out, not terribly busy. They lost some starts only due to a particular tech that cared for him during his in patient stay yesterday to receive IV fluids and (I thought) tube feeding and anesthesia. HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE TUBE FEEDING OR ANESTHESIA. I discovered this on picking him up at closing time, he was also soiled with diarrhea that was already dried into his fur at time of pick up, I had called to check on him and was waiting at the clinic an hour before pickup and the diarrhea was only mentioned as she brought him out. The techs name is Andrea who was so neglectful, I was deeply concerned by her demeanor upon meeting her but didn't think much of it, she had just begun her shift and seemed more concerned with eating a yogurt and then going outside to take a break within an hour of her shift beginning than the care of my cat. She wasn't informed about his case when I had questions about his condition and care plan and didn't seem to much care about him aside from whether she had maybe seen him before and if she would recognize him. More importantly she was the tech I was communicating with regarding my cats care and was the one I told directly that I would like to go ahead with the feeding tube and anesthesia. I was charged and extra $575 for these things(returned in credit on his account when I realized this hadn't happened) she had said only "no one told me he was getting that" but I was the one who told her to her face i witnessed her passing this along to the receptionist who added the charges to the payment and then the tech, Andrea, immediately went outside to her car for a ten minute break. Maybe she forgot but that is unacceptable. I was very disappointed he didn't receive the feeding tube, and also very disappointed he was returned to me COVERED IN DIARRHEA he had clearly been sitting in for hours, I was also disappointed that even if they weren't going to clean it they couldn't have given me a heads up about that so I could buy pet shampoo or wipes before pick up given all the time I spent waiting at the vet and the calls to check on him there was plenty opportunity to inform me of this. Nevermind it is poor practice for a clinic to allow a cat to sit in their mess for hours this can cause infection and additional distress. As I understand it it is common practice for a vet to clean an animal that has made a mess in their care before returning them to their owner. I will be speaking with management about this particular vet tech, I had called to talk with them but was told they are traveling and will get back to me... otherwise the care was great and affordable from Lone Tree, however I am left feeling very concerned about the incompetence and general disregard from vet tech Andrea.

IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, GO HERE!!!!…read more I hardly write reviews, let alone one this long, but after everything that happened, I feel like I owe it to this team. My cat, Theodore, suffered a rectal prolapse on a Sunday. It was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever been through. He was in excruciating pain, vomiting, having diarrhea, yelping, and literally had tissue protruding from his body. I genuinely thought I was going to lose him. Before finding Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin, I called well over ten emergency veterinary hospitals throughout Marin and San Francisco. Every single one either had wait times ranging from hours to over ten hours, couldn't perform surgery for days, or simply didn't have the staff to take another emergency. I was driving from place to place and calling anyone I could think of while watching Theodore continue to suffer. By that point, I felt completely helpless. Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin was the only hospital that could take him almost immediately. Within minutes of arriving, he was being evaluated and prepared for surgery. After spending hours hearing "no," finally hearing someone say they could help was something I'll never forget. What impressed me even more was the quality of care. Every single person I interacted with -- from the reception staff, to the nurses, to the discharge team, to the veterinarian -- was compassionate, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly communicative. They never made me feel like I was asking too many questions, and they took the time to explain every step of Theodore's care. Theodore had been dealing with a complicated medical situation for months that involved a lot of uncertainty. Their team quickly helped me understand what was happening and what needed to happen next. For the first time in months, I finally felt like I had answers and that Theodore was in the right hands. One thing that really stood out to me was that the care didn't stop when we walked out the door. The follow-up from the doctor and staff has been incredible. Recovering from an emergency like this is overwhelming, but they continued to answer my questions, check in, and make sure Theodore was doing well. I'm happy to say that he's recovering very well, and I'm beyond grateful for everything they've done for both of us. I genuinely cannot thank this team enough. They were there when no one else could be, and I'll never forget that. If your pet is having an emergency, I cannot recommend Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin highly enough. I truly don't know what would have happened if they hadn't been there. The only thing I wish is that they offered primary veterinary care, because after this experience I would enroll Theodore there in a heartbeat. Thank you to everyone at Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin for taking such incredible care of my little boy. I'll always be grateful.

As scary as the situation was, every member of the team treated us with compassion, kindness, and professionalism from the moment we walked through the door. They took the time to explain Leo's injuries, the surgery he needed, the possible complications, and the financial estimate. Even though we were terrified, we never felt rushed or left in the dark. The surgeon kept us updated, answered every question honestly, and made sure we understood exactly what was happening. During surgery, they found that Leo's intestines had protruded through the torn body wall and were very inflamed, but thankfully they were still healthy enough that they did not need to remove any of his intestines. They carefully checked for leakage, thoroughly cleaned the area because of the dog bite, and successfully repaired the body wall. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise that went into his care. What stood out just as much as their medical expertise was their compassion. Everyone treated Leo with such kindness, and they treated our family with the same care during one of the most stressful experiences we've ever been through. Today, Leo has made a full recovery and is completely back to his usual mischievous self. Our little "tough guy" has officially retired from picking fights with dogs many times his size, and we couldn't be more thankful that this team gave him that chance. They didn't just save our dog--they saved a beloved member of our family. They also saved my daughter's best friend. She would have been absolutely devastated if we had lost him, and because of this incredible team, she still gets to grow up with the little dog she loves so much. Thank you for giving our family more time with Leo. We will never forget your kindness, your honesty, and your incredible care. We recommend this hospital without hesitation. Five stars truly aren't enough.
