Very gentle with the rabbit and you can tell the folks here are all animal people. Doctor was great. The location is awful if the karate kids (next door) are all coming out after practice - that parking lot - whew - not good. But not the vet's fault. Since there's not many places who deal with exotic animals, we found this place some years ago. Anytime we have a question about our beardie they have an answer or get right back to us. She's been through a couple surgeries and they've always taken good care of her, as well as provide us with all the risk factors, never pressuring us to make quick decisions. I'm pretty sure my bearded dragon like my other kids hate the site of the doctors office. Ha One thing to keep in mind is the parking sucks! Out of that huge parking, they are only given two stalls, the rest are overtaken by parents dropping their kids off at daycare or martial arts. I just left what will most likely be my last visit after going to this vet for approximately 6 years. We took our dog on Thursday over concerns of his anal glands bothering him. They charged us for an anal gland expression (of which they were only able to confirm they got one expressed) and $500 later they said everything looks fine... On Sunday his anal gland ruptured. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called on Monday about it and they got me an appointment for Tuesday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was already irritated that my dog had to suffer and it seems entirely preventable - he was clearly in a lot of pain. They told me that if they find they missed something or overlooked something I wouldn't be charged for the visit... unsurprisingly they found their treatment to be perfectly fine, despite the doctor admitting that it would be very unlikely that an abscess developed and ruptured within 3 days. So they gave me another bill for $760 - a $90 re-examination fee, medications, a shave and flush of the area, and a $500 culture test. I declined to culture test "upsell" but still paid $260 more for something that should have been prevented and treated when I was in there 3 days prior expressing my concern about this happening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only reason I am giving 2 stars is Dr. Asseo was great to work with. We used to primarily see her, but the past few years it has seemed like a revolving door of doctors and it has been years since we have seen her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My dog has epilepsy and Dr. Asseo helped find the right mix of medications to help curb the seizures and reduce the severity. Because he is on regular medication we have to get bloodwork every 6 months or so to ensure the medication aren't doing damage to his liver. This is already around $500 twice a year. In the past few years it has felt less like a caring veterinary hospital and more like a sales organization. I feel like we are constantly trying to be "upsold" unnecessary treatments. Both the costs and number of additional recommendations increase with every visit. We have also seen a new doctor the last several times we have visited. Seems very shortsighted from a business standpoint to lose a patient that has costly exams every 6 months to make a few extra bucks now, but that is illustrative of the organization they have become. We will be looking for a new veterinarian that we can trust. read more

We've been bringing our Labradoodle, Nowelle, to Dr. Asseo since she was 3mths. old, (9yrs. ago). In the beginning she was given exceptional care; however, since Covid, things have progressively gone down hill. First, Dr. Asseo saw us less and less, and we kept getting shuffled off to different Vets, which at first was no biggie, as it was one or two of the same Drs., but their new arrivals, post Vet-hemorrhaging, leave less to be desired . . . Much less. Emphasis has been less about care, and more about the bottom line! One comment made to us after we informed them of our financial limitations one month, in regard to the quote for a surgery they needed to preform was, "you care about your dog don't you?" Wow, really? In the past they would have worked with us, our baby's health and well being was a priority. Times have changed. I found it enlightening to read some of the other reviews, and seeing that many others have observed the same thing. Money trumping empathy, I guess "All Creatures" is dead! We've sucked it up and dealt with the swelling costs because we were under the belief that Oasis was such an exceptional Veterinary Hospital, but recent experiences contradict that delusion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We always had a great repour with reception, and the nurses, even after Covid when you had to call from your car and come in one at a time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Last I heard, Covid was under control, so when are they going to open the doors like every other business and hospital? Furthermore, that she was afraid that the Dr. might trip on her pants as they were knit bellbottoms, about 4" to long, with the back half stuffed into her flats. Funny, I always thought doctors and nurses wore Scrubs(?). The nurse laughed it off, but the doctor noticeably bristled. She further inquired about how much all of the new tests and exams might cost, as we never seem to leave the place for under $500.00. The doctor left the room stating that the nurse would return to bring Nowelle back for her exam. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ten minutes later, Rae; the new office manager, stormed into the room waving her hands in my wife's face. She accused her of swearing at, and speaking negatively about her staff and doctors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My daughter explained to her what happened, and that my wife wasn't swearing at them, that that's just the way she always speaks, like laughingly saying; "the dog's F-ed up". She further explained how the Dr. and nurse were laughing with her about it. Rae asked if the Dr. was done examining Nowelle? My wife said no, and to please stop waving her hands in her face, and then asking; "is the nurse going to get Nowelle for her exam?", to which Rae flew off the handle; "ABSOLUTLY NOT! WE WON"T TAKE YOU AS A CLIENT ANY MORE, AND WE WON"T BE SEEING YOU IN THE FUTURE!" [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm 67yrs. old, and have dealt with a variety of managing styles down through the years, but yelling at, and 86ing a paying client, over an offering of constructive criticism is a new one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was brought up to believe that Vets put their patients needs before their own. They couldn't even bring themselves to follow up on a sick dog! I give Dr Asseo 4 stars. She's friendly, loves what she does. Only downside is she's difficult to get a hold of to answer questions and she seems to be out of the office quite frequently. Her receptionists I give a minus 10... they need some serious training in PR - snarky, sarcastic and rude. The greeting upon the entrance to a company really sets the standards for how it reflects on your business. They will chase clients away. On a brighter note, has a good laugh with a patron about the receptionists behavior while we were waiting outside for our pets. Most Vet practices are allowing people back in but Oasis is making people wait outside which looks like it's going to be the new norm. The techs are okay. Couple of employees really lazy. Pricing is more expensive than most practices. read more

I ran 14 minutes behind on a long drive here to get my pet a check up before moving out of state. Granted being late is my fault and I owned up to it asking for some understanding, but the nonchalance of the staff's behavior in simply turning a paying patient away without any other viable option was jarring. I was simply turned away with no other recourse. "The doctor has made her decision." I've been made to wait while the clinic was running late, but apparently if I'm late, I'm completely out of luck. There was no one else whom I was allowed to speak to, just reception. It is a Friday and I was told no manager would be onsite for me to speak to until the following Tuesday. I've paid thousands to this clinic for my pet's care and this is the kind of treatment paying customers receive. There wasn't even an offer to see if it was possible to squeeze me in later. I was told the vet was super busy today and I stayed for an extra 30 minutes to observe how busy they were. They didn't see one extra patient after I was turnes away. Seems like this staff just wanted to go home and start their long weekends early regardless of how rude or unprofessional it would be. I was also told to compare this experience to private human doctors. I've never been to an appointment where I was late or early and was denied care. It is a simple understanding of how things go. Sometimes appointments run long, sometimes people run late. I don't blame healthcare people for running late and they usually understand life happens. Not at Oasis. In summary, If they're late, you wait. If you're late, you're screwed. If you want to plead for understanding, they have none. If you want to speak with a manager, they work random hours and days. Their care has been good. But their nonchalance, non tolerance, and boorish attitude leaves you wondering when private pet care started to foster and grow cruel people. I thought I posted a review a few years ago with regards to our cat Sabrina. We followed Dr Asseo from Hillcrest Veterinary to Oasis Veterinary Hospital in 2014. I am writing this review to insure no one else experiences the very poor treatment we received from Dr Asseo. Sabrina passed away at the age of 14. We adopted Sabrina from a friend who passed away when Sabrina was 7 years old. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr Asseo was very good with Sabrina and we enjoyed a very good rapport with her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, when Sabrina became ill in 2022 Dr Asseo stated Sabrina showed signs of lymphoma but she did not have lymphoma. Dr Asseo stated she would treat Sabrina as if she had lymphoma. She prescribed two medications one was chemotherapy and the other was Prednisolone. The medications made her extremely ill and she was constantly vomiting. We brought her to Dr Asseo who was on vacation, so we saw another doctor in her office. Unfortunately this doctor was not able to do an ultrasound (Dr Asseo was the only doctor who could perform an ultrasound) so we were referred to a Veterinarian in Lafayette. They stated Sabrina had lymphoma and needed to be euthanized. We were devastated. We of course wanted Dr Asseo's opinion before we went ahead with the procedure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We left several voice messages and emails, but Dr Asseo never contacted us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We took Sabrina to Dr Atwater a Oncologist Veterinarian and he stated Sabrina did not have lymphoma, but did have an infection that could be treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately Sabrina was too weak from the medications Dr Asseo had her on, and she passed away July of 2022. We believe Sabrina would have lived much longer had Dr Asseo diagnosised her correctly April of 2022. We are writing now to hopefully avoid anyone else experiencing this awful outcome. We still feel guilty about not providing Sabrina with the excellent treatment she deserved. read more

Im going to keep this short, no need to go too hard on a business who is, at least in theory, trying to help animals. So here it is. Don't waste your time or money here. They literally can't even clip my dogs nails. They said our dog was too hostile, lol. Seriously? It's funny, because my wife and I do it ourself now. I hug my dog and give her a few treats and my wife clips away. No degree or prior experience necessary. Maybe you shouldn't start by putting a muzzle on my dog? One time I actually suggested that I be present to help calm my dog down for a shot, instead of muzzling, the staff was extremely offended, but didn't say anything to me, they called my wife and expressed their dismay, lol. In comparison, we have been going to VCA Encina in Walnut Creek now for almost two years. Today my wife went in with our dog and had a large scab removed from my dogs belly. My wife gently pet our dog and gave her treats while the vet removed a scab and knot of bloody hair that had formed, about the size of a peanut. No fuss, no trauma, no muzzle. There's many options out there, I'm glad we finally found a great Vet! read more

We have a 3 year old dog and have been coming here since Feb 2020. Before the pandemic this place was not bad at all. You could wait in the waiting room and you felt like they cared about your pets health. During the pandemic they started making people wait in the car - call when you get there, they'll get your pet inside, and then the DR will call you to do a "virtual" appointment and then the staff will call yet again to take your payment over the phone. Then someone would return the pet to you at your car. Now that the pandemic is over, they make you call when you get in, let you and your pet go into the room and visit with the dr, then they ask you to go back and wait in your car while they treat your pet with whatever is needed, then call you to collect payment and bring the pet back to the car again. It is absolutely ridiculous that they are still operating this way. It is hot in the summer to wait in your car and wastes gas if you need the AC. They also keep trying to get us to buy heart and flee medicine even when we say we don't need a refill yet. Recently we brought our dog in for an ear infection that they treated with gel, which after speaking to a friend who is a vet in a different town, said the gel doesn't usually work well so you have to keep going back, and surprise surprise our dog needed a second dose of the gel so we had to go back. Every visit they ask us to come back in 2 weeks so they can check if things are looking better. They recently called to confirm our 3rd appointment for the ear infection, in which I said actually the dog is looking better I do not think we need to come in, and then I proceeded to get lectured about how rude it was to cancel 28 hours in advance because so many others had to be turned away that needed appointments. Then they told me next time if I want to cancel I should give at least 48 hours notice and were just absolutely rude about it. TLDR: this place has terrible customer service, barely adequate vet care, has outdated practices, and tries to sell you things/meds you do not need. Highly recommend going elsewhere for a better experience and probably better care too. read more

I've been coming here for maybe 2-years, and have been meaning to write a review of their excellent service, etc. However, it has became even more important as my pooch has suffered more health issues due to her age. I say that because that is when superior care is extremely important. So with that... This place is absolutely fantastic! I do not believe my pooch could receive better care anywhere. Period. I have an elderly dog (17 years old), and she has been experiencing some issues recently, and they have been very helpful and understanding. In every respect, they have been extremely accommodating, helpful and supportive. It's been a challenge to get her dialed in on some meds, while trying to schedule future procedures. But they have always gone way beyond what I expected, and as a result I am very confident my dog is receiving the very best care possible. I have had an excellent experience with each person I have interacted with there. Of late, Dr Peterson has been the primary. She is always willing to take time to ensure I understand all of the options available, and always takes sufficient time to ensure I understand the situation, making sure to fully explain any special circumstances. Asseo is all talk- no clinical skills with patients, clients or diagnostics! She charged me a ton of money, knocked out my tortoise with hard drugs, then told me "he is a boy, I saw his penis!" Now my "boy tortoise" is laying eggs- thanks for nothing. Also I took another tortoise there who couldn't walk. Front legs looked paralyzed and I was terrified I was losing the baby. Again- false diagnosis. (Twice burned- shame on me!!!) She charged me a TON of money, didn't give the baby anything for pain, and the note in the little guy's chart said "gait and walking is normal"! Then she charged me for x-rays and bloodwork, but couldn't be bothered to send me a text, email or answer my frantic calls for her help during the week- and she had the x-ray results while I was still in her waiting room that first day. Still- then entire week I'm waiting for her to respond to my daily frantic calls for information- my little one cannot walk AT ALL... Another vet I took him to, after her silence was obviously the norm with her and her staff, immediately gave my baby an anti-inflammatory and a mild pain medication, and told me to keep him warm and off his feet- don't let him walk, and carry him to and from his meals to let him rest and the swelling go down. The vet was very thorough and spent about 1/2 hour with us doing diagnostics, x-rays that he took me back to see on the spot, and let me know he didn't see any obvious breaks or fractures, that he thought it may be swelling from a bruise or other climbing injury. Such a reassuring doctor- so very grateful they are not all like "Oasis" vet. Asseo didn't even notice the swelling and said he was "cute"... good grief. Stunningly bad clinician, horrible human-to-human communicator, and I truly think she has a good education but doesn't understand how to handle or diagnose reptiles at all- she shows no indication of "hands-on" touch smarts that a lot of vets from less prestigious Universities have in spades. I found out later that Asseo hadn't even done any work on my little one, she'd handed him off to a vet tech, and the vet tech had annotated his record as "walking normal" and Asseo didn't even check or correct that, even though I blatantly booked the appointment due to something wrong with the way he's trying, and failing, to walk. She didn't even observe him trying to walk as part of the initial exam. Maybe she is a good dog and cat vet, but we won't ever be back, and we don't recommend her for tortoises or any reptiles at all!!!! I think her partner who opened the Practice with her, and then subsequently left, was the REAL tortoise doctor, frankly. read more

They gave me options and price of treatment before anything was done. I appreciated that and I chose the ones that were monetarily practical for me. In short, this vet horribly mishandled the care of our dog and there is a good chance he would not have died if we had been given adequate treatment from the start. If you want to know the longer story, read on.... We took our dog to the vet in January after he had stopped eating. They ran tests, took x-rays, and prescribed medicine. Because we were in the midst of the pandemic, we were not allowed to go in with our dog. We received a call from someone we'd never spoken to before (we'd been to this vet multiple times before) who gave us an update but did not identify himself. We assumed he was some assistant calling, NOT that he had been the one checking our dog himself. He said the scans showed it was heart failure and prescribed medication for it. He said we should see improvement right away and most dogs live 2 to 3 years longer on the medication even with the heart failure. We followed medical instructions but saw no improvement. We received a call from the normal vet (Dr Asseo) checking in and we gave her the update - he was still not eating and we hadn't seen improvement. He was having trouble breathing and seemed so uncomfortable. She prescribed an appetite increaser. Three days later she called back and we told her we still had not seen improvement. I got a call back a bit later and she said she had actually looked at the scans herself and she was so sorry but she did not think it was a heart issue at all but pneumonia. Now it was Friday and they were closing for the weekend. Our dog could barely breathe. We brought him to an emergency vet hospital where he had to be admitted into an oxygen room. After a few days more, we came to the conclusion that his condition had degraded too much and we had to say goodbye. I straight up asked the vet hospital if he would have made it if he'd been diagnosed sooner and they said that yes, it was likely. We were charged $800 for all of the services from Oasis and never offered any refund of the services despite being misdiagnosed and being sold medicine that was not even correct. We had to force feed our poor dog the WRONG medication for a week. We went to Oasis under the impression we were seeing our doctor and should have been made aware of the fact that someone else was assessing our dog....and someone who was not as qualified as Dr Asseo. Further, Dr Asseo should have checked this other vet's work....why didn't she check the scans herself from the start? To make matters even worse, a few weeks later we received a condolences card in the mail. The vet and all the nurses/assistants had signed it. Nice? You might think so BUT every single one of them referred to our dog as a "she" and a "her"...our dog was male. He was not a new patient there and, while I don't expect them to remember all of the pets they see by memory, you would think they would at least check the file to find out his sex prior to sending a condolence card. read more

Our black lab has been a patient of Oasis for the last 2 years. We just lost her to cancer last week. We can't say enough about the wonderful and high quality care she received from Dr. Asseo and her team. They were highly skilled and demonstrated an authentic kindness and concern for our sweet dog. Despite covid and their high workload, they always kept us in the loop. On more than one occasion, we got a call from "doc" late in the evening-well after normal business hours. I'm lousy remembering names. So again thanks to ALL the staff. We especially got to interact with Krishna and JC. Their friendliness and concern knew no bounds. read more

Sadly I have to share few stories around Oasis. We have a bearded dragon that was very ill and not eating, took her in for treatment and subsequently was given medication to provide to her via mouth syringe, the dosage on the prescription bottle was actually wrong by a decimal point and we ended up nearly overdosing our dragon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called for more medication and was asked why I needed more, told them I was out based on the prescription amount dosage on the bottle, then it became apparent there was an error.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I brought the dragon back and they had to keep her for a few days to ensure recovery, but pls be sure to validate ANY medication dosage on the bottle. In addition, we have a bunny that is seen at Oasis and she has had some eye issues with minor infections, I called for a refill and was told I needed to have her brought in again at a charge of $80 and all that was provided to me was the same prescription I was originally provided and had to pay for a full recheck to get it. Between the mis-dosage management and the billing for a check up to get literally the same medication, confidence is sadly gone from this provider. Lastly - there is no waiting room anymore, so expect your business to be done in a parking lot or on a sidewalk. read more

First of all, whenever I have contacted Oasis, they have always gotten me a prompt appointment (for a dog or a cat) which unfortunately has not been the case for other veterinary clinics in the area. Dr. Link in particular was excellent and not only took lots of time discussing and explaining my cat's conditions, but followed up by phone multiple times to see how he was doing. She also sent me a helpful link with resources about his behavior. One issue that I did have was when I told the staff my dog was one of the few that was better with me in the room for procedures, I wasn't taken seriously (having worked with animals myself, I understand everybody says that and it's very rarely true). We were sent home with sedatives and had to come back the next day for blood work. After they were unable to take a fecal sample, they finally agreed to try it with me and they were genuinely surprised at how much easier it was. They've added that to their notes and hopefully we won't have this issue again. read more

My friend referred me to Oasis since she brings in her dogs. I brought my two dogs here for their shots and wellness check ups. All the staff is so kind and informative. They are very up front about their options and pricing, which I appreciate. It's very clean and inviting inside. I've seen Dr.Link and she discusses all the options, gives her professional advice but is not pushy. She's gentle with the dogs and clearly has a passion for them. I left feeling that my dog was well cared for. I recently brought my dog in after he was under the weather, and I had the same experience. All the interactions with patients, owners and staff have been lovely and I would recommend their services. read more

Let me start of by saying Oasis Veterinary Hospital EXCEEDS a 5 star rating and that is no exaggeration!!! I absolutely love, love Dr.Asseo and her team. I cannot stress enough how great Oasis Veterinary Hospital is. I was originally taking my puppy to another vet before going to Dr.Asseo. The reason being, Dr. Asseo was in the process of opening Oasis Veterinary Hospital so for the time being, I had to take Cocoa (my puppy) somewhere. Everytime I would take Cocoa to her previous vet, as soon as we pulled up to the parking lot, she would shake. She would continue shaking until after we were done with her appointment and in my car. I would even comfort, hug and rub Cocoa, but she would still shake. I want to be very clear that I didn't get any "weird" vibes from this vet and they NEVER harmed Cocoa. Anyways, one day (sometime in July) I decided to call Oasis Veterinary Hospital because I was worried about Cocoa's stitch hanging out from her spay in June. I spoke to Dan (the man) and he asked if I could bring Cocoa in for him to check out which worked out great because I was home for my lunch. I was in and out of Oasis within 5 minutes. Dan snipped the stitch, looked at Cocoa's spayed area and reassured me that it was healing well. After that, I decided to start taking Cocoa to Oasis Veterinary Hospital and the rest is history. I want to mention that prior to taking Cocoa in to get her stitch snipped, I did attend Dr.Asseo's open house and I took Cocoa along with me. Cocoa was extremely comfortable with Dr. Asseo and her staff and was not shaking. Everytime I need to take Cocoa into Oasis Veterinary Hospital, she is so comfortable and walks right in. She doesn't pull back with her leash. I highly, highly recommend Oasis Veterinary Hospital. Dr.Asseo and her team will give your furbaby the quality care he/she deserves. I've taken my cat Bonkers to Oasis for checkups for several years now and I absolutely love them! They are always kind, friendly, and I trust them with my fur baby 100%. I appreciate the separate entrances for cats/exotic pets and dogs. The vet calls to keep me informed of any recommendations (ex: updated shots). They are on top of covid procedures and practice social distancing/masks. Their staff is always so friendly, I get the sense that everyone really likes working there and caring for our beloved pets. read more

The poor reviews for Oasis seem to be written by the kind of people who ask for the manager anywhere they go--they're looking for a fight and some validation. Oasis has been amazing ever since we started there with our puppy during the pandemic. Communication over the phone, payments, timeliness and, above all, the kind and enthusiastic character of all the staff--especially the vet techs and doctors--have met my high standards.
