I love this location! I've brought two different pets here, and the team is always so nice. They are very professional, really invested in the well-being of my animals, and make me feel heard and appreciated. Yesterday we took our puppy Yams to Modern Animal for the first time since becoming members. Parking was a breeze! They have ample parking spaces for clients in their private lot. The space is modern, clean and stunning. You feel like you're in a fancy modern home not a vet clinic. Staff was so kind and welcoming. They gave Yams a welcome gift that matched his shirt (added bonus). They offered us refreshments and had a nice selection of caffeinated and un-caffeinated beverages. We got ushered to an exam room and got to hang out until the vet tech came in. The room was quiet, sparkling clean, and really cute and modern. Yams felt totally at home there. The vet tech came in and greeted Yams and made him feel special and safe. She listened to our questions and wrote them up to make sure they were all answered. Then the doctor came in. We went with Dr.Wee and we love her. She was gentle, kind, and so knowledgeable. Yams loved her and she made him feel so safe and comfortable even during the exam. This clinic is one hour away but I'd rather take my pups here instead. The vibe is very clean, bright and relaxing as soon as I entered the lobby. My dogs would not think it's a scary place because there are treats available on the check-in counter and the check up rooms. Thee staff here understand the importance of positive experiences for our dogs, they support the idea that doing most of the checks in front of the parents, my dogs are more relaxed that way. Whenever they were doing some needle work, I always pair it with delicious treats. They have a licking mat and peanut butter available too. So this vet is never scary to any of my 3 dogs. Everything was perfect! The front desk person was absolutely lovely, very inviting. A fridge with cold drinks was offered. I was first seen by another lovely person who regretted that I was twenty minutes late. She showed me a computer of their schedule and offered an appointment an hour and a half later, even waving the late fee because it was my first time there. She also wanted to make sure that I was in one of their reserved parking lots. The vet was lovely as well, entering my exam room at precisely at 1:30, the time of the appointment. She successfully encouraged my dog to be still by occasionally giving him a treat as he lay on the exam table. It pleased him, which pleased me, which pleased her! She got down on the floor to ease Marley. Doctor Williams spoke as she examined Marley, telling me her findings ( I don't recall the actual numbers): temp was ___, normal, heart rate was ___, normal, ears/eyes were clear, etc. I've never had a vet do that. I was in because I feared a fox tail. With the first look, Dr. Williams suggested it might not be a fox tail, in part because all four paws were red/inflamed. Before they treated Marley, a tech came in and showed me what the charges would and could be depending on the services provided. I was impressed because I felt the fees were actually on the lower side! It turns out Marley did not have a fox tail, but rather inflammation, no doubt caused by allergies and licking. He received an allergy shot as well as a heartwarm blood test, was given the appropriate meds, and we were discharged. I was emailed bill copy, exam findings, and medical prescription to fill wherever I wanted. Every aspect of my visit to Modern Amimal went beyond smoothly: scheduling, greeting, appointment rescheduling, clinical expertise and sweet "bedside manner", med prescribing, record keeping, etc. Treatment was conservative, no pushing extra services. I was worried at first to bring my dog to a vet owned by a national corporation. But the feeling at the clinci was very homey, nicely decorated, pretty colors, very sweet and inviting. Not at all "corporate". As a matter of fact, when I initially called and got their national answering service, the woman suggested I go to a different clinic than I first chose (Berkeley) and instead go to Walnut Creek in order for Marley to be seen earlier. This corporate scheduler was worried that Marley might have to be sedated (foxtail), which necessitated an earlier appointment. If that's corporate sensibility, then I'm all for it! read more

Our 9.5 year old Bull Terrier, Ziggy, came down with a nasty ear infection. Her regular vet is not local so we asked friends for recommendations and they pointed us to Modern Animal. The Yelp reviews and same day appointment convinced us this was the place to bring her for treatment. Dr. Wee and her assistant JC were super thorough and attentive. Dr. Wee took cultures of both ears and within 20 minutes we had a preliminary diagnosis. JC thoroughly cleaned Ziggy's ears and outlined the instructions for her take home meds. This is new veterinary medicine. I got this last year around this time thinking I would have a great experience for my senior Pomchi. I spent about an hour trying to get someone on a chat or phone consult. Ended up making a wellness appt to establish relationship and to address the current good aspiration and subsequent infection that is common for my girl. Nurse was slow and vet was cold and only pushed surgery for dental and about $400 worth of tests. When I mentioned normal home care practices for my girl, the vet's eyes glazed over and "do not recommend" narrative was given. I've had pets since I was a little girl and my home remedies were given to me by vets. Over 40+ yrs of taking care of dogs, cats, birds, and the occasional hamster. Just today I called for another aspiration of food that is safely dislodged, but the familiar smell that Clavamox takes care of. Another visit before an Rx can be given. Sorry, I would rather establish with a vet that is not so modern and cold. ...and when I expressed shock at the $10,000+ surgery quote, vet moved further back from me, slightly rolled her eyes and said "get pet insurance". My experience may be an outlier, but for me it was awfully disrespectful and a waste of my time just to get Clavamox for a common issue with my girl. All the medical records they have on file reflect her history. Do better! read more
