Also, in the past I have had other friends at other retirement centers around the Columbus area. Overall, the residents at Claremont have been much more pleased with the facility than those at others that are much more expensive. The entire facility is on one floor and there are no inconvenient and unreliable elevators necessary. Each apartment has interior hallway access for the entire facility and each one also has a same-level screened in outdoor patio. There is a sense of community and camaraderie there among the residents. Many of them casually meet in the dining room and play cards, or just sit and chat. The dining room food choices have good variety and good quality. Claremont is not a fancy hotel, but is clean and well maintained. It has a sense of casual comfort and friendly socialization. The staff is very caring and comforting. The dining room service is excellent with very friendly servers who are always available and ready for resident requests. There are always several activities available, usually in the dining room area. These include theme days and musical performances among other attractions. Special services are generally available for such things as physical therapy and hair care, just to name two. Many of the residents have their own automobiles with plenty of parking for residents and visitors. There is a small general store on site along with a postal facility there is good security and areas for assisted living and memory services. The sales staff is knowledgeable, and helpful. I believe the strongest attraction of Claremont is its social resort style atmosphere and the convenience of single level living with screened-in patios for every unit.

Lots of activities, and chances to get out into the community. The food smelled great as I walked by, and residents seemed happy with it, and with living there. Room sizes vary, and levels of care are adjusted to what you need. Therapy is available, and there are nurses always there, and a doctor most of the time. There is a library, game room, etc. The rooms are nice and homey. There is a "pub," and you can actually get a drink there. The neighborhood is nice, and the grounds are well-kept, plus there is a patio where there are flowers, etc., and you could even garden a bit.

The majority of care was done by family with the caregivers providing little more than babysitting services. Our mother experienced a debilitating fall and later a stroke. It was clear that she needed 7x24 professional care but we wanted to keep her safe in her home. We called TheKey and they showed up in force. Within hours, a representative came to assess our needs. An experienced and absolutely wonderful caregiver arrived only a couple hours later. The office staff is available 24hrs/day. Every staffing or care request we've made has been immediately and professionally fulfilled. The caregivers arrive ON TIME, EVERY TIME. No call-offs, no excuses, no drama. They treat our mom and her home with respect. I can't say enough good about the caregivers that we've had. They are professional, caring, patient and extremely well trained.

Had the unfortunate experience of being a patient at their Whetstone facility. They cannot keep…read morehelp. Seems half the workers are temps in the nursing staff as well as other areas. Most of the employees are overworked or just don't care. The food is atrocious when the kitchen is open. Again employee issues. When it comes to issues, medical or otherwise, you are at their mercy. An issue arising after Fri afternoon is generally neglected till Mon as everyone of any consequence takes the weekends off. Don't expect to see a real doctor, just won't happen. The building is old and not maintained. Had the Air go out in 80+ degrees for the weekend because it was never cleaned. The only part of the staff that is of help is the Therapists BUT they insist in overlapping the two types of therapy so they can both bill for the same amount of time. Sounds fraudulent to me... I can go on but suffice it to say, Stay Away!

My Mother and Father moved to DAL in February 2023. We were very excited and hopeful based on what…read morewe were told about the care my parents would receive, all of the social activities they would be involved with, assistance to meals, assistance with showers 2x/week, laundry 2x/week, bed linen change 2x/week, minimum number of RNs/LPNs and aids per resident levels, etc. Very quickly, however, it became evident that none of this was going to happen as we were told. My parents were stuck in their room for days, meals were brought to their room on trays (not their choice of food items). They had no table in their room so they were trying to figure out where to eat in the room. Physician orders for meds consistently were not retrieved; they went days without critical meds. Showers were nearly non-existent and haphazard. I had to go DAL and hunt down aides (who I usually found sitting on their own, often seemingly hiding) to make sure they provided needed and proper care. I had to put my parents' laundry basket in the hall and inform workers of the need for them to do laundry. Bed was not changed regularly as in care plan. And speaking of the care plan, none of the workers followed it. I had to call daily to ask the facility to take my parents to activities that were pre-selected for them, and to be taken to the dining room for their meals. My Mom fell often due to safety standards not being followed. Aides would pull her walker such that she had to hurry behind it. My Mom would be left in her wheelchair without the brakes on and without her walker within reach, resulting in struggles to move and in many falls. Workers allowed her to fall by not helping her and then would not report the falls. We even have video of a fall and how the aid reacted to it. When we notified this fall to the facility, the aid and the facility denied the fall even happened, and it had not been reported. Sadly, after being at this facility for 15 months, my Mom passed away. My Dad was not checked on for 14 hours nightly from 6pm to 8am; he was not toileted during this time, and there certainly were not "eyes" on him every 2 hours as required. I went to the Nurse Director who stated that she was aware of poor care at night and was going to look into it. Nothing changed. I had my Dad checked for UTI, which was positive. I had PT ordered, and it was PT that found and reported a bed sore to me, not the aides or nurses who should have found the bed sore. Next my Dad's UTI went into pneumonia, sepsis and death Keep your loved ones out of this facility, which sadly seems to be how all of these facilities are operated. They tell you wonderful things that they will do for your family member, but they do not do what they say; rather they say what you want to hear and then totally fail to provide loving, caring, beneficial care. You have to maintain constant oversight and be a constant reminder to the facility and staff by calling, visiting and checking on them daily. Highly recommend you put Ring (or similar) video cameras in your family member's rooms, as it is the only way to help you see what really is happening (and not happening). You have to advocate for them 24/7 or they will be left to manage on their own. This facility does not provide true assisted living or proper human care. We could share a lot more, in detail, of our experiences, but we will leave it to the above for now.

The repeated lack of integrity and non-existent accountability to execute basic safety requirements, while a family member repeatedly reached out to an entire organization, including upper and executive management with cries for help and documented proof/pictures is appalling. Our mother fell 5 times in 4 days under Senior Star's "care." By the time we saw our mom at the hospital her face, head, and knees were covered in bruises and she had lost her ability to walk. 2. The incompetence of the management team at the Dublin location is staggering. They lack proactiveness, empathy, a desire to provide a positive customer experience, and basic organizational skills. They are so disorganized that they let a stranger walk into our mother's room, dismantle her hospice bed, and drive away with it. For many months in 2022, they completely forgot to give our father (with stroke history) his cholesterol medication. Within 12 months, we reached out to the local ombudsman twice for help. 3. They lean towards medication to solve problems. Staff encouraged more medication for our mother to "improve" behaviors which triggered a downward spiral. After her doctor prescribed medication the third-party company they work with performed an assessment, which recommended MORE medication. Our mother was so overmedicated on all the wrong medications (according to the local geriatric psychiatrist) that she went into psychosis and at 83 years of age had to stay in a psychiatric hospital for two weeks to remove all the medications from her body. 4. They repeatedly told us one thing, in terms of medical care and safety protocols for a high fall-risk resident and did not execute what they said they would do. After a repeated history of this, we decided to install a video camera which showed us a fall mat was not always placed by the bed, no-slip socks were not always worn, the telephone was kept out of reach and our mother crawled to her phone, the bedroom door was kept closed at night, they repeatedly forgot to flatten the hospice bed for proper sleep, kept the TV volume blasting through the night and left the room lights on until a family member would call them at 1 AM asking to turn things off. This went on for months. ADVICE: Do not move your loved one here. Find other places and do your research (especially on the source of those positive Google reviews). Put a video camera in the room and check the credentials of the employees giving medical advice. Periodically scan your loved one's medication list to confirm accurate medication distribution. Just because Senior Star is located in an affluent community, Dublin, Ohio, do not assume they'll offer the best care.

What I will say is this: If my own parent, grandparent, or loved one needed long-term care today, I would NOT choose this facility. That statement alone should speak volumes. Before I address the problems, I want to recognize the people who continue to carry this building on their backs. There are incredible aides, nurses, kitchen staff, Activities, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and other employees who genuinely love these residents and go above and beyond every single day despite being overworked, understaffed, underpaid and unsupported. I would love to recognize each of you by name, but I won't because I don't want anyone to face retaliation. You know who you are, and the residents are fortunate to have you. Now for the hard truth. One of my biggest concerns is Memory Care. These residents deserve dignity, compassion, stimulation, and opportunities to engage with others. Instead, I watched opportunities become increasingly limited,due to them not being allowed to leave their units. The Activities department consistently created meaningful events, and they deserve tremendous credit for bringing joy to residents despite the obstacles placed in front of them. What disturbed me even more was hearing certain employees openly say they "hate" the very residents they are paid to care for. Healthcare is stressful. Everyone has difficult days. But if you've reached the point where you resent the vulnerable people depending on you, it's time to step away from this profession. I also personally observed residents waiting extended periods after using their call lights. That should never become normal. Residents deserve to be treated with urgency, dignity, patience, and respect--not as inconveniences. The building itself is beautiful. Families walking through the front doors will probably be impressed. Unfortunately, a beautiful building means very little if the culture inside it is broken. There is far too much gossip, finger-pointing, favoritism, and unnecessary conflict between departments. Instead of working together, people are often blamed for problems they didn't create while the real issues continue to go unresolved. That doesn't just damage morale--it eventually affects resident care. I also want to acknowledge the kitchen staff because I personally watched them receive unnecessary disrespect while simply trying to do the job they were trained and expected to do. What I could never understand was hearing employees openly say they "HATE" an entire department because they didn't like how certain procedures were being handled. That isn't professionalism--it creates division, destroys teamwork, and ultimately affects resident care. I heard those comments far too often, and no department deserves to be treated that way. Could the food improve? Yes. Could organization improve? Absolutely. Could additional training benefit the kitchen? Of course. But here's the part many people seem to ignore: every single department could benefit from additional training. No department is perfect, and no department should be made the scapegoat for larger operational problems. Respect is not something employees should have to earn based on their job title--it should be the standard. Housekeeping, Dietary, Nursing, Activities, Maintenance, and every other department all play a vital role in caring for residents. When one department is constantly blamed or disrespected, everyone loses--especially the residents. I also witnessed what I perceived to be unequal treatment of some African American employees and employees being encouraged to leave paid 5-star reviews. Fairness cannot be selective, and trust cannot be bought. Respectfully I cannot recommend this facility to anyone looking for a safe, respectful place for their loved one.

My father, who has multiple myeloma (a serious blood and bone cancer), was admitted here for rehab…read more After touring the facility, I felt confident he would receive good care. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Less than a week into his stay, we were told insurance would no longer cover him and he needed to be discharged. I was not properly notified the day of discharge and received a call while at work saying he needed to be picked up. When I arrived, he was extremely weak and clearly not well. I had previously asked staff to check him for a UTI because he was weak and acting confused. I do not know if that was ever done. As I was helping him into my car, he told me he had orange urine and swelling. Staff told me he was "good to go." Within 21 hours of leaving this facility, he was transported by EMS to the hospital and diagnosed with a UTI. Very disappointed in the lack of thorough assessment and discharge planning, especially for someone with cancer and a compromised immune system. Families need to ask questions and closely monitor their loved ones here.
