When we realized that his typical project scope was a bit bigger than what we wanted to spend, Matt was very gracious in connecting us with other contractors and designers. Despite the early hiccups, we got the sense that Matt is a genuine guy who is more interested in doing the right thing rather than making quick buck. We really appreciate his thoughtfulness, and we will definitely consider engaging with his services again in the future!

He took this information as well as our preferences for how we envisioned the space to be used to come up with a 2D design. He also recommended materials and local contractors. We contacted one of the contractors a few weeks later and finished the project with them in about 2 months. I highly recommend the Virtual Consultation for smaller projects with Matt. His feedback for our questions and experience with similar projects were very beneficial to starting this backyard project for us.

Despite heavy rains, there was zero pooling; the rain gutters were routed directly into pipes beneath the concrete for a clean, streamlined look. - Smart Home Integration: All landscape lighting and irrigation were hooked up to smart-home enabled controllers for total automation and convenience. - The office staff was very responsive, addressing any concerns or follow-up questions usually within a single business day. It was over 3500 sq ft of lawn and irrigation, as well as concrete fixes around other parts of our property and pool tile repair. I chose them because they had the best strategy to combat the problem, even though they weren't the cheapest quote we received. I wanted the fix to last long term, not just hold me over for a year or two before another gopher invasion destroys our yard. Everything was extremely professional and delivered to contract specifications. We were extremely happy with the results. They had to move a portion of our fence to get the big equipment in but you wouldn't even know it had been moved because they were total pros putting things back. When we asked for additional scope of work (a French drain), they were quick to get back to me with a quote and incorporating the additional work didn't push out the timeline. All in all, highly recommend and we'll definitely use them again for our landscaping needs.

After finally deciding to move on, we hired Geovanni and his team, and it was the best decision we could have made. He promised to complete the work in three weeks, and true to his word, his crew of seven arrived the very next day (on a Saturday!) with three trucks, cleared out all the debris, and got right to work. The entire project was completed in just two and a half weeks, and the results are amazing. The quality of the work exceeded our expectations. His team was efficient, honest, and incredibly hardworking. Our backyard looks beautiful, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Out of the nine contractors we interviewed, Renzo was the only one who insisted on no cement…read moreapproach; made me consult an arborist; suggested to grade the whole front lot instead of just replacing the old pathway; and genuinely cared about my plants. We didn't want to hire him at the beginning and was even about to sign contract with someone else. It all started with the inquiry of concrete footing which he refused to do and I wanted to know why. He replied promptly. During our communication, Renzo's clarity, persistence, knowledge and patience impressed and persuaded me, not to mention his very reasonable quote. Instinctively I knew I could trust Renzo and he is the right guy for my project, even though I haven't met him. So I waited a month and hired him. The wait was worth it. They built three walls and one patio, redesigned front left yard by grading and building a new pebble pathway with statue, installed lighting and irrigation system that had better dripping rings. They also revamped the driveway that made it look brand new and pebble-covered the right front yard. It was truly a remarkable experience. Not only they did an excellent job with fine craftmanship, but their punctuality, hardwork, efficiency, know-how, discipline, organization, respect, kindness and neatness were a force to be reckoned with and an inspiration beyond a mere landscaping job. They take pride at what they do and the result is phenomenal! Before and during the three-week construction, Renzo was very respectful and made me feel my opinion matters. He was responsive, accommodating, flexible, easygoing and honest. He listened. He always showed how it would look. When something didn't work out, he was open to suggestions and assisted with solutions. I felt he had my best interest. The level of care to my plants led to high survival rate during transplant. I also noticed one of my trees was magically recovered from disease and the other was vigorously blossoming, which has never happened before. They brought life to my garden. Everything was done very nicely. They cleaned up the whole place and it was much better and cleaner than when they started. They also showed up for additional work as promised. Renzo and his crew transformed my old and messy space into the most beautiful and meaningful garden/haven that I could have only dreamed of. With the new lawn, now my garden has never looked better. In several instances, I was informed that weed control had been completed when it hadn't, which I confirmed through my exterior security cameras. Communication was also slow and often unresponsive; I frequently had to send follow-up texts just to get a reply. Ultimately, we have decided to discontinue the service.

Hills Landscaping recently finished our lovely front yard. We decided to hire Hills Landscaping based on their positive reviews and reasonable prices. Initially, we didn't know what to expect due to previous bad experiences with other contractors. However, when Antonio visited for the second time, all our questions were answered, some minor earlier miscommunication was resolved, and we were ready to proceed. Throughout the project, everything went smoothly. Antonio and his team were professional, flexible, and easy to communicate with. We made some changes during the project, and Antonio made it hassle-free for us. Leo and Eduardo did an outstanding job transforming our front yard. We also received valuable assistance from their designer, Nop, regarding plant placement. Although we didn't use their designer for the entire project, their input was helpful. Antonio's experience and recommendations were invaluable. For instance, he suggested adding a dark dirt cover to an unfinished part of the yard without charging us. This is a MAJOR shoutout to Antonio (the project manager), his team and Erica (office / admin). Antonio and the rest of the team were amazing to work with because: 1.) Pricing: Their prices were incredibly fair if not the best price offered from the 5 or 6 different quotes I received. 2.) Professionalism: The team always came on time, were very respectful and always cleaned up after themselves. 3.) Flexibility: I can't tell you how many times I changed my mind or decided to expand on the project. Antonio has the patience of a saint and was always accommodating and worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. 4.) Responsiveness: Both Antonio and Erica are incredibly responsive. Antonio is the owner of hills landscaping, They did a good job on my front and backyard turning it from a bad looking house to a good looking house. They did the impossible for a doing a good job. Antonio like a owner of his company he was in charge of every detail when I contacted Antonio to receive the quote he was one of the most expensive contractors. It was a hard decision to choose because my project was too big. They did retaining walls, pavers, pergola, new driveway, and new turf. My project was more than $280,000 that's why it took me long to find a contractor, But hills landscaping was a good option. Antonio and his crew did a great job from Start to finish. We had a large Irregular shaped lawn that was a mess. Weeds/ gopher holes/ tree roots. We decided to inStall an artificial lawn and a rock border. The lawn required 2000 sq ft of turf and 25 tons of rock as the base. Everything turned out fantastically. The job was done on time and on budget. Each day the crew cleaned and left our patios clean and clear of debris. We took a chance with Hill Landscaping as they are a relatively new business and we are very glad we did. I highly recommend Antonio and his company. read more

We had some basic landscaping done, including preparing an area for planting, planting shrubs and flowers, a few trees, rocks and mulching added, drip system installed.. Loved that they showed up in masks, as safety is number one right now. Everything was great except for a few snafus, including waiting a little longer to start than usual given Covid. I totally get that can't be helped right now. Antonio was professional and courteous as well as attentive to any concerns I had. I contacted hills landscaping for a quote to update my back and front Yard, new paver driveway, new turf, retaining walls, new BBQ, new pergola. From the start I liked the way they answered all the questions. Antonio is the owner he was in charge to check the project in person. His quote wasn't one of the cheapest one to me it wasn't really a problem because I was looking for good results and spend every dollar to get good quality and hills landscaping definitely did that. Again, with much Prayers for God's Guidance, Directions we contacted for 3 Bids. One company with the initials of SL on Yelp great reviews was not a pleasant experience for us. They wanted Photos before they would even consider to bid. After much stress I did the photos, took the measurements as requested. I didn't expect them to come out to bid but they did and their bid was very high. I kept on praying and D&I Landscaping appeared and had great Yelp reviews. My initial reaction was Alyssa Torres was my first contact very personable and then we booked for Luis Blanco to come out to access our needs. No request for measurements or photos at all. Our job was easier only because my hubby knew what he wanted to have done and gave them his Vision and with their advice and help we tweaked a few things. Pavers is not an easy job especially when there's already Pavers installed, the guy I watched him and he was so methodical and kept placing Pavers down until he felt that he got the flow down and it was an amazing and challenging job but he did very well in my opinion. What we Love about D&I , is one of the owners Irving and their Designer Luis came over to meet with us. D&I doesn't charge for a Designer as some other companies do its part of their services. Irving, David, Luis and Alyssa and the entire Crew are so professional again this company was very Honest, Reputable, Hardworking and most of all they listen to our needs. One time our water spigot started leaking or spouting and we have this Project Group Text that they set up for us, all we do is text and within a few minutes David one of the owners showed up and turned it off while we were gone. They installed a water spigot that is easy for us to reach. They finished our Irrigation system along with installing a Rain Bird timer. It's hard to find a good honest company with Integrity but this company has it. Remember the company with the Initials SL think of S = a hard rock. Well... we had 3 bids which included backyard and front yard. When I called SL company and explained change of plans not doing the backyard she said oh, well that changes your front yard quote by 8 - 10% I was livid are you kidding me? No, it changes your price, the Lord quickly had me shut the door on this company bad feelings from the time I contacted them had to do measurements and photos. When the guy showed up,from SL, I told him you're young but you are passing on small jobs because you don't have time, let me tell you something passing on small job could lead you to something bigger, he was cordial and what was funny was after I went into the house he took measurements. D&I I contacted them to not include our backyard sent me a new quote penny for penny they just took off the back yard quote the front yard stayed the same. Honesty and Integrity goes a long way plus they don't charge us for a Porta Potty as SL did on our quote $250 for a Porta Potty folks she said unless you want the crew into your house to potty. I did let our Painters use our restroom which is fine they're in our house anyway and they were so professional and kind to us. To each its own. Looking for good Quality Work, a company with Honesty, Interity and a great ideas on your Landscaping this is the company and we had Carpenter Bees in one of our Post. Well, let me tell you, D&I came to the rescue (not all heroes wear capes!) Within 1 week D&I had dug everything up, removed these trees and unwanted bushes and covered the entire area with weed cloth and pea gravel. They planted some really gorgeous flowers and shrubs, and set up irrigation so it's super low maintenance. The neighbors have commented that they love how the front lawn looks now! D&I are very communicative, kind, and give a fresh perspective to things. For example, I was thinking about redoing my backyard which I thought was stamped concrete. D&I inspected it and told me they are real flagstone and it's expensive and not worth replacing. I really appreciated that they weren't trying to squeeze every last penny out of us. They're trustworthy and I can't recommend them enough!

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping…read more We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing "landscaping" from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she's great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. These guys do not mess around. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can't say the same for any of the other contractors we've worked with (and we're actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Danny, and Marcus offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking "if you step in that mud, you're going to lose a boot" type of rain). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn't easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. (South Bay had laid those out properly square to the driveway and house, as per our plan.) Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you'd know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you'd seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It's been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we're still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay Design and Landscaping for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you're looking for landscapers, these are your guys. It was over 3500 sq ft of lawn and irrigation, as well as concrete fixes around other parts of our property and pool tile repair. I chose them because they had the best strategy to combat the problem, even though they weren't the cheapest quote we received. I wanted the fix to last long term, not just hold me over for a year or two before another gopher invasion destroys our yard. Everything was extremely professional and delivered to contract specifications. We were extremely happy with the results. They had to move a portion of our fence to get the big equipment in but you wouldn't even know it had been moved because they were total pros putting things back. When we asked for additional scope of work (a French drain), they were quick to get back to me with a quote and incorporating the additional work didn't push out the timeline. All in all, highly recommend and we'll definitely use them again for our landscaping needs.

We received pricing from five different companies. His price was competitive, and I told him we were awarding the work to him. He came around to do a final review and my only negative was that he said the price had to go up by $200 due to the increase in concrete pricing since the time of his original quote 3 weeks earlier. The work he did was fantastic, and the color match of the concrete to our original driveway was great. He also did the line etching in the concrete to match the pattern in the surrounding areas and it was a perfect job.

At the end of the job he inspected the work with me and filled in any weak spots we noticed. Quality work from a professional team!

I am writing this review because the casual observer does not know the struggle. The people who stop and ask for my thoughts, I respond by saying on a scale with craftsmen on one end and laborer on the other, I rate them closer to the laborer end. The contractor said he has in-house 3 teams. I got the C team. Their inexperience showed. I understand the best way to gain experience is to be hands on. But to learn, supervision and mentoring are needed. The supervision was very minimal. The owners were not on site daily. When they did appear, it was mainly to deliver supplies, take away debris, or pickup equipment. Not my job, but I assumed the role of Onsite Superintendent and Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC). If I had not, I am not sure what the project would have ended up looking like. To their credit, if something needed to be corrected or changed, they did it with no resistance. Their motto is "what makes you happy." I say their motto is "we do it nice because we do it twice." Progress was slow. The contract was signed at the beginning of December, and it was completed at the end of March. I was told at the time of the initial site visit it would take 2 weeks to complete. After the contract was signed, there was no communication for over a month. I was left in limbo wondering on the start date. Would it be before Christmas? After Christmas? Before the New Year? After New Year? Start was not until mid-January. There were many days where no work was being done. In my opinion, a month's delay could be attributed to the holidays and weather. Overall, communication was poor during construction. Days and weeks would go by with no update leaving me to wonder if they were even coming back. In the beginning, communication was adequate. But as time went by, it felt like my project was no longer a priority. To date, I have not heard from them. There has been no project completion follow up. Examples of my frustration: Gutter Downspout - They attached an underground drainage pipe to the end without cutting the angled outlet off. This made the pipe protrude out to such a degree it was a trip hazard. I brought this to the contractor's attention, and he agreed. He even provided me with a picture on his phone saying, "this is how it should be done." The sad part was the job he showed me was also performed by the same work crew on my project. They should have known better. They corrected the error with a fitting I provided, but it was sloppy work. The fitting was not straight and too low to the ground. I ended up redoing it. I connected a 2nd downspout to save myself from further disappointment. This would be a common theme during the project, doing things myself. My neighbors would see me in the yard and ask, "isn't the contractor supposed to do that?" Front Entrance Joint Sanding - The front entrance originally consisted of a concrete pad. Instead of removing the concrete pad, they laid the pavers directly on top. Ever seen a vibrator vibrating pavers laid directly on concrete? It is not a pretty sight. Those pavers were jumping! Many pavers were damaged. I was so shocked and angry; I had to lock myself in the house after witnessing the carnage. What really made me mad was prior to this incident, I spent time replacing chipped pavers they had laid with nicer looking ones. But in short order, all that was undone. They fixed the damage, but the replacement pavers they used were the ones I had previously rejected. Later, I went back through the unused pavers to pick the better-looking ones, and had the contractor redo it. Side Gate and Gravel Path - Last day of work, what could go wrong? Well, they removed and repositioned my side gate. When I realized what they were doing, I was LIVID. It was unnecessary. They should have removed the earth a few inches and backfilled with gravel to the former finished elevation. But no, they placed the gravel on top of the existing ground and decided to move the gate higher to clear the gravel path. When the weather moved in during the night, I could hear the gate banging from my bedroom. In the morning, I inspected their work. A snapped bolt, improperly installed latch, and a damaged gate stop. Once again, it is up to me to remedy their poor workmanship. To top it off, they used my neighbor's yard to store their materials. These are just some of the struggles I encountered. Did I mention the multiple times they had to pull up and put down pavers at one section? I lost count after 4 times. Plenty more follies occurred. There were many smaller issues. All those small issues add up and become a pattern of ineptitude. To end this review, let me say my dream was to step out my front door, look out at my front yard, and experience joy and happiness. Instead, what I feel is disappointment and anger.

We tried to do a paper design but then decided to go with the project as it develops real time. We are so happy with the way Prem did the lights and landscaping. Setting up fountain on a steep slope is an engineering marvel and it looks amazing. Prem accommodated our constant incoming requests and provided good value for money. The work spanned more than two months and his crew were there even on Saturdays and days when it was above 100 F super hot days. There was a high degree of planning, coordination and aesthetics involved. Highly recommend them for any paving and landscaping needs as they have skilled staff who works tirelessly.

I had a 60 foot by 10 foot old asphalt driveway, and hired them to replace it with pavers. They arrived every day on time, and ended up finishing the job right on time- that alone is important, since we lacked access to our parking and garage during the project. And when they chipped a brick, "Alberto" (project manager?) went out of his way to match the paint and fix it. The quality was superb, and they paid attention to details. Kudos to the team for a job well done. On time, and on budget.

They completely transformed our backyard to include two patios surrounding a putting green, a low wall, pathways, and new landscaping with fruit trees and a hedge with drip irrigation. An extensive drainage system included french drains, area drains, and tying the downspouts directly into drains. This was important because water would pool in our backyard after heavy rains. We had high expectations because we knew what Unique Pavers did for our driveway and front yard, and they did not disappoint! Rick has amazing vision when it comes to designing spaces. Dan is a great project manager who was onsite nearly every day and has excellent communication skills. And the hardscape and landscape crews really know how to execute; they worked hard and worked together well. Everyone we encountered went out of their way to accommodate our detailed requests, moving a favorite plant, and waiting for a smart lighting controller to be shipped. I could say more but the fact that we are a repeat customer says it all! Unique Pavers is a good value and we highly recommend them.

This was also the first winter that I didn't have water seeping into our foundation and flooding, all thanks to the drainage work that Unique Pavers did at the same time as repaving. Of all the companies I got quotes from, Chris was the only one to ACTUALLY LISTEN to our vision. He asked questions, and gave valuable feedback to bring our idea to life. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND when he noticed the water damage and gave a very reasonable price to address it (in hindsight, this was such a huge value add that I hadn't even considered). He also project managed the coordination with my separate fencing contractor, which I really appreciated. He's timely, efficient, responsive, and extremely thorough. Construction has many unknowns, and it's the way the team handles things that leaves lasting impressions. When the team hit a water main (not their fault, the original was improperly placed), they immediately contacted a plumber to solve the problem within hours. When we had a rain delay, they kept us updated and managed to complete the project on schedule. I also appreciated that the team was not working over time, they took breaks, had a toilet, and seemed happy, which was great to see. Both Chris and Rick came by to check on progress, and also afterwards, to check up on how things were. 100% recommend this company (and ask for Chris!)
