This will be my second review of this company. I just had Pazmany Brothers "refresh" my pavers. They started by power washing the area and then filled in with new polymeric sand. A friend and fellow Los Altan recommended Pazmany Bros to us for a French drain project several years ago. Their team did a fantastic job, reasonable expense, worked hard over the course of a week, and we ended up with a drainage system that resolved a major standing water issue we had dealt with during some of the atmospheric rivers. One year later, Frank Robles with Pazmany helped us do a big project in our front yard, where we shrank our large circle driveway, added a fence, gates, and arbor across the front yard, added a lawn, redid all our flowers/plantings, planted several trees, new irrigation, new electrical and lighting, new mulch, added new gravel to the driveway, added a new brick walkway system and patio, and even replaced our century-old main water pipe. We made the horrible mistake or originally going with Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape for our front and back yard project. From the beginning, our project was plagued by an absence of governance, poor quality workmanship and a lack of project management. Distraught, we sought the recommendation of a trusted friend who had recently completed and was very happy with his own yard project. He enthusiastically recommended Peter Pazmany, and for that we are forever indebted. To say that Peter and the entire team at Pazmany were lifesavers would be an understatement. Our yard project was the dream of an 86 year old man, and we thought it was a total loss after the Black Diamond experience. But Peter salvaged it. He listened well as we described what we were hoping for, captured our hopes and goals perfectly in the project scope, and worked with us to hit our budget without compromising project quality and outcome. Here's a (very) short list of what differentiates Pazmany from Black Diamond and the others: - Peter, the founder/CEO, is personally involved throughout. While Black Diamond's CEO refused to visit even after it became apparent that their project was faulty, Peter regularly came unprompted during the Pazmany project, surveying the work, double checking items, and even assisting with tasks such as plant layout. - All the workers on site were actual employees of Pazmany. This is different from not just Black Diamond, who supplies a project manager but all others are subcontractors, but most others as well. This makes a HUGE difference. Pazmany's workers were well trained and highly experienced. They obviously knew how to work as a team, what was expected of them, and shared the corporate commitment to customer satisfaction. - They take radical responsibility for their work. This means that any issue that comes up where a mistake may have been made, they immediately acknowledge their error course correct. For instance, some of the stepping stones on our pathway were cut a bit too big. When this was brought to their attention, Pazmany had someone out right away to correct this. No argument or issue whatsoever. Just a focus on customer satisfaction. Juxtapose this with Black Diamond who installed faulty irrigation valves, repeatedly insisted they were performing as designed despite the persistent leakage, and only admitted the problem once I personally opened the valve to show them (at which point they replaced them with valves that also were faulty!) - Peter, Wayne, and the entire crew have exceptionally broad knowledge. While we knew many of the specifics of what we wanted for our project, there were key parts of the yard where our intention was clear, but our vision wasn't. For instance, we wanted a natural feel for our patio area and an inviting flow to/from our deck, we didn't know how to design this or what materials to use. Pazmany laid out something that captured our thoughts perfectly, first conceptually and then on the ground with markers, working with us to fine tune it. The end result is that it's 100% the form, feel and flow that we wanted. - And much, much more My hope in sharing this publicly is that others won't make the same mistake that I did. Peter and the entire team at Pazmany are talented, honest, fair, and work with integrity. These are characteristics that should be more common in the world of home contractors. We hired Pazmany Bros. Landscaping to update our home's water drainage on our side yard and driveway, as we had been having flooding in our garage. We live in a rural area where we get a lot of water, all at once, during our rainy season. The one very small drain in our driveway was not cutting it, and year over year we were seeing significantly more rain. Wayne was our project manager from Pazmany Bros who kept us up to date on progress on the project. Wayne and Wayne's team did an amazing job of carefully measuring out elevation, and setting up the drainage system which connected in the front yard. Wayne was super professional, friendly and funny, and his team were professional, detail-oriented, and always cleaned up at the end of the multiple days that they worked on our project. They installed two separate trench drainage sections, one along the side of our home, and the other across our driveway which work by gravity alone (no pumps or electricity needed). Also, they added pavers on the side of our home, which helped to finish off the work beautifully, as well as to direct the water into the drainage system. Along the way we found some concrete and brick work that were uneven elsewhere in our yard, and they cleaned those up really well, too. The drainage system was just in time for this year's serious amount of rain, which put the new drainage system to the test. We are extremely pleased with the results of the work they have done. We worked with Pazmany Bros for a large and complicated exterior project on extended steep terrain. The project included a significant excavation of ivy, trees, existing mortar wall, followed by extensive regrading, tiered extended retaining walls and fortification , drainage, LED lighting, planting, and modern connected irrigation. Our front yard looked quite abandoned for a while. We had old tanbark around the stone flower bed and weeds were coming through. Some flowers outgrew their lifetime and needed replacement. If you have big property that needs lots of landscaping/hardscaping, Pazmany will probably pay attention to you. If you're a little guy like me who just needs an irrigation system update/repair, look elsewhere. Otherwise, you will spend your time begging, pleading for attention. It took weeks just to get the first appointment. The employees who came out did good work, said more should be done and they'd come out the end of that week. Weeks later, I'm still trying to schedule a time. I was interested in Pazmany Brothers because it's a family business. Right up front, I asked if my job was too small for them. I was assured it was not, but it's obvious they have no interest in dealing with me. I guess they just have too many big customers with more lucrative projects. read more

When I bought my new home the first time i turned on the "drip" system i was surprised to find 3 small geysers in various zones of the system. Without the slightest idea of what to do about it I shut off the system and called Pazmany Bros. We're just finishing a complete landscaping of our property. We were starting from nothing: everything that had existed had been removed or destroyed during remodeling. I reached out to this company due to the amount of people that have used them in our neighborhood. I explained what I needed...reinforcing retaining wall and drainage issues, removal of concrete pad and replace with same or gravel and possibly a french drain. The contact with the office staff was great and she took the time to know my needs and set up an appointment that was in a timely fashion. The employee came on Fri 6/2/23. He said that he sits down with Peter on Monday mornings and would get back to me with a bid. I called him about a week later and he said he was driving and had not forgotten me. I texted about a week later and asked him if he was still interested in the project and if so would he send me a bid. I take it he was not interested in helping as he ghosted me. A simple courtesy of calling and letting me know that his company did not want to do the job would have been the correct thing to do. To be fair Pazmany is not the only company ghosting people but with their reputation in our area I can only think that this review will put some perspective on common courtesy to your fellow neighbor. read more

I would suggest being wary of the positive reviews here, as people would tend to not leave negative reviews for landscapers unlike they do for restaurants. We were misled by the positive reviews and want to make sure there's a more balanced picture about this company. Our experience with Peter and Pazmany Bros have been nothing but trouble since the start. The project went several weeks over schedule and lots of headaches due to poor communication between Peter and his workers. At the conclusion of the project, we were hit with an additional cost that totaled more than 30% of the contract we signed and none of which was discussed with us while the project was going on. It seems that Peter grossly underbid the project to beat out his competitors and tried to recoup it in the end without due process. Now several months after completion, the lawn that he installed for us is in dismal condition, despite us watering it everyday. There are bald spots all over the lawn because of the irregular and insufficient coverage of the sprinklers they installed, and despite several requests for them to fix the problem, they refuse to own up to the quality of their work. Our water bill is already over $100/month, yet he claims that we don't water it enough and that we should be mowing it weekly instead of bi-weekly (honestly, what kind of lawn requires weekly mowing in order for it to not look dead?). It's very easy to see that the sprinklers don't cover the area as after running them for 10 minutes, there are still large parts of the grass that are still dry. However, Peter refuses to fix the job because, well, we already paid him. Would you hire a landscaper who can't even get lawn and irrigation to work properly? read more

I initially had Peter come by and give us a quote on changing to a more water friendly landscape. Our yard is just too large and due to personal reasons, we weren't able to go through with it. I appreciate Peter's suggestions on how to apply for the rebate program, so hopefully I can finish my yard. I recently did some pro bono design work and called Peter asking about how much it would be to replace some plants in the planter boxes in the front. He said he would do it as a donation to the charity. He came by and said he would clean up the front and power wash the front of the building. Wow! Much more work than I anticipated. So then I find out their irrigation is broken and they don't use it because if floods the street and shorts out the elevator. I tell Peter 2 days before they come and he says, "Don't worry about it. I'm sure we can fix it." They ended up cleaning up the entire building, power washing the entire building, put mulch, new plants, fixed 4 valves and replaced their broken timer. His staff communicated with us on what their plan was and implemented it. I'm in awe. Thank you Pazmany Bros. Landscaping...I am touched and amazed on how you help our community and our project. We had an unusual plan to remove our entire back lawn and replace it with raised beds and drip irrigation for vegetables. We had trouble even getting bids from the other landscapers we know, who said it was a bit out of their scope. I saw another job that Pazmany Bros. did and I liked how it turned out, so I went to Peter with the plan. We had some delays because of rain, but the work got done as promptly as it could. The job turned out to be slightly larger than the bid predicted, but I did not get charged extra for the overrun. Their workers were friendly, intelligent and reliable. They worked with a tight deadline, they were committed to complete a difficult sprinkler job right, and they made my back and front yard look amazing before a big party.
