Our tenant in San Mateo called and said that the electricity was out in half the house, late on a Saturday, a few weeks ago. Bob let us know that he could come out the next morning (Sunday), but that we should consider calling PG&E as it may be a problem with their equipment getting to our house. We asked Bob to come out anyway. He was right, there were PG&E problems with 3 houses on the block. However, these had created problems with our Electrical Box. Box was able to fix the problem in only 1 1/2 hours. He also counseled us that we may need to replace our box since it was so old and the amps were low. He no longer does this work, but told us what to look for in getting quotes for the work. I couldn't believe Bob was willing to come out so quickly and on a Sunday and that he knew what to do. I had an issue with one of my circuit breakers which I deduced most likely needed to be changed out as the 2 outlets it connected to to both stopped working. I contacted a handful of electricians regarding changing out the circuit breaker and Bob immediately responded by asking to speak over the phone. He asked for information regarding the problem and instead of trying to try and get the service work, he walked me through what potentially needed to be done and was very transparent about the simplicity of changing a breaker myself to save on having an electrician charge a few hundred dollars. He was genuinely trying to help me fix my problem even if he was not going to get paid for a service call. I truly appreciated his transparency and honesty! Bob is the best electrician I've ever dealt with. He is a real professional and his works are extremely precise. If I need more electric changes in my house, I will definitely ask him again. I asked Bob to modify 8 cups of recessed lights in the kitchen. There were recessed halogen lights previously and I wanted to install LED ones. He did an excellent job! He removed all existing cups for halogen lights and installed new cups designed for LED. In the process, he cleaned up all existing mess in the ceiling. I love his work ethic to do it rigorously. Also I like how closely he communicates with customers. During the project, he communicated clearly to me about everything including estimate, schedule, what he is doing, and next steps in text messages and in-person conversations. I always felt I knew what would happen in the next step and what I could expect as a result. I did never need to worry about the project in the process. This excellence is rare in the US. read more

I had lights that were flickering on/off (NOT dimming) throughout a large portion of the home and would occasionally just stop working for hours at a time. Another electrician took 5 hours at $910 crawling around the ceiling space, reconnecting and "tightening" things and claimed it was all better. It was not -- the power issues continued 2 days later. Got in contact with Bob at 11am, he came out that same day by 2pm, had the problem fixed 30 minutes and $300 later; money well spent. Turns out the previous folks had missed that an entire breaker bar contact in the main panel had been sparking and completely corroded the bar contact. Bob put in a new breaker on undamaged bar contacts and put everything back together. read more

In our garage, we used a heater at the same time while the Tesla was charging and the garage outlet circuit tripped. GFCI reset on the garage outlet didn't click. But the circuit breaker for the garage GFCI is not on our inside electrical panel. Bob the electrician from Hillsborough Electric was going to come out today, but he called me a couple times first to make sure I tried everything. Bob asked if there was a electrical panel outside the house. Sure enough there was one, with Garage GFCI labeled. Flipped that switch, then reset the GFCI button on the outlet, electricity came back on in garage. Saved me some money! I think Bob knows his stuff and he is also an honest & very helpful man. I called and got voice mail. I was in a hurry so I decided to try another company; I did not leave a voice mail with Hillsborough Electric . I got voice mail at the second company and decided to leave them a voice mail. In the meantime, based only on the caller ID Bob called back before the other company responded. Great! I needed help so I proceeded to describe my problem. As Bob listened he suggested that I could save money if I did the fix myself. He started to describe how to do that but I interrupted - I was already in hot water because my DIY skills weren't up to the task. I told him I wanted it done by a pro. And that's what I got - a pro. It wasn't the biggest job in the world, but he came at the appointed time, got the job done, and was a pleasure to work with. If I need electrical work in the future, I won't need Yelp to guide me.
