We have had an Enphase solar installation for 10 years now, which has always worked beautifully…read more However, due to regular PG&E outages in our area (Fremont, CA), we decided to add a backup battery to the system. After careful research, we chose Highlight Solar (HS) to handle this installation. We chose the Franklin battery, and Highlight Solar came out to handle the installation in Nov 2025. Sadly, we had some serious issues with the functionality of our solar infrastructure, after the Franklin equipment was installed... the Enphase solar monitoring device (called Envoy) started having trouble communicating with the panels, and therefore would disable them. HS made a couple of different attempts to fix this issue (which was delayed when they went on vacation for a month), so I had to keep cycling the breaker for the panels every morning to get the system working for another day. Fortunately, they were persistent in pursuing the issue, and after returning from vacation in late January, Samir came out and spent a couple of hours on the phone with Enphase support, who suggested a possible solution for this issue. HS then had someone come out to implement Enphase's suggestion, and now my system is working solidly and reliably (Feb 2026). I'm glad HS didn't just give up on us; I'm sure they were just as frustrated as we were by this situation. We certainly didn't expect this to take three months to resolve, but it is working now.

Ali, our salesman, remained patient and communicated thoroughly via email or phone, and at all hours even after we had signed the paperwork. The installation process was honestly better than the sales process. The combination of Chris (the foreman who found a solution for all our requests) and his team which worked in awful weather to get our project installed on schedule were amazing. Our inspection, and final handoff were handled by Samir, who answered even more questions, and made sure we were fully set up. From end to end we had a great experience with Highlight Solar and will recommend them as they were to us. Pro tips: If you get a battery you will need to store it until it is installed. Your solar data might not show up on the app for 24-48 hours after installation...don't panic, it will show up eventually and you will see the money you are not spending with PG&E.

I got answers from Darlene that did not make sense. Sometimes her computer was down other times her phone was down. Sometimes she would call to give me a message only to realize that she had called the wrong customer. Did not enjoy working with her. Finally, Kara engaged and we got the Permission to Operate about two months after the install. Supposedly Jeff (the Business Owner) is no longer with the company and has gone back East, so not sure who is leading their future efforts. For future customers: hang on to a portion of the payment till the Permission to Operate is received not just the installation.

Unlike other installers we contacted, they actually took the time to visit our home in person and work with the challenges of our hybrid flat and slanted roof. They were also flexible with our summer travel schedule, finding the right time to complete the installation without disrupting our plans. Throughout the process, they were punctual, hardworking, and handled all of the necessary approvals for San Francisco, which gave us real peace of mind. Steve and the team were outstanding--patient, responsive, and clear in their explanations of the system. They installed 22 panels with microinverters, plus a Franklin battery and Enphase monitoring, and everything has been working smoothly since day one. The best proof came just a week later, when a full-day neighborhood power outage didn't affect us at all--we had seamless backup power the entire time. First off, the installation was pushed back multiple times without notice. Every time I called, I got a different answer and a new excuse. When the system finally went in, they forgot to connect it to the monitoring app--so I had no idea if it was even working for weeks. Customer service? Absolutely useless. Expect to be transferred five times before speaking to someone who might help--only for them to "open a ticket" that goes nowhere. It feels like they just hope you give up. Then came the billing issues. I was charged before the system was activated and have been dealing with mysterious charges ever since. Good luck trying to get anyone to fix it--it's been months and still no resolution. Bottom line: Sunrun talks a big game but delivers a terrible customer experience. Do your research and go with a local company that actually cares about its customers. I'm stuck in a contract and deeply regret ever signing up.

Because of the good experience I had with having Clean Solar install panels at my house I reached out to them to see if they would service panels installed by another, and thankfully they accepted the job. After some back and forth with their customer support, they remotely assessed that the inverter failed and they would install a new one for a reasonable price. Clean Solar employee Jose arrived early for the install and he was very polite and relatable. He replaced the inverter and did not leave until he made sure that the system was back up and running and production was being reported in the app. I recommend Clean Solar to anyone needing their panels serviced or to install a new system. Jose is an excellent employee and my mom had a great experience working with him.

Then we had Patrick the PM, arrived for site inspection on time and courteous and explained the whole process. Then come the impressive installation team Luis, Alberto and Kevin. The 3 arrived on time and with smiles, just overall a great vibe from them. Luis walked me through the installation plan and gave a few choices taking into consideration aesthetics of the house and then got to work. 4 hours later, clean line, fine craftsmanship and symmetrical matching placement from last system is in place and ready to tangle with PG&E (attaching some photos) I really really can't recommend any higher to go with Clean Solar on your solar projects. I called around to multiple highly ranked solar companies in the area, trying to see if anyone could help, but all of them were either booked out until the end of the year, and/or they didn't take on any projects they themselves didn't install. Rising Sun Electrify was immediately confident when I called them and shared they've taken on multiple orphan projects, so this is not a big deal. They were able to come immediately the next day to check on how my system was set up, then sent me a proposal later that afternoon for how to get my Enphase box commissioned. After I confirmed I was good to go with the proposal, they were able to schedule me in just 2 days later. Truly incredible service, fast, and very competent as well. The initial install went fine, but trying to get them to honor their contract now has been a nightmare. Bait and Switch: They are suddenly demanding a $3,600 fee for the removal. Even their salesperson admitted this fee was not indicated in our main agreement from 2021, but is now picking apart vague fine print (outside of our contract) to justify it. We have sent the contract over multiple times and asked them to highlight the language where it specifies this charge. Unethical leadership: Leadership is aware of this $3,600 gap, but they don't want to back down. Terrible Customer Service: They are dragging their feet and refusing to coordinate with our roofer, who has been consistently asking for dates to remove the solar. Ignored Emergencies: We explicitly told them we have an active roof leak and asked them to prioritize the removal so we could fix our home. They did not care. Once they finish your initial install, they will abandon you and refuse to give you the time of day. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If you are looking for solar, be very wary and look elsewhere.

So we got in touch with ELM Roofing and had them come out to do an inspection. Lucas was great. He identified the issue quickly, stepped us through what our options were, and kept us in the loop the entire time. He checked the roof out with a drone, since it was too high to run a single ladder up, and we got to watch the neighbor's resident hummingbirds go nuts trying to threaten it away. Evidently hummingbirds hate drones! We had our entire roof and the garage roof replaced, because the builder had cheaped out on underlayment materials and is a pain to get to fix anything under warranty. So, y'know, forget him, but this isn't a review about him. We've got a much tougher underlayment now, all the chipped tiles we had have been replaced, and it is quite honestly better than new now. They did clean work, too. Didn't mess up the yard at all, they were fastidious about noise levels and allowed work times, everything you'd hope a certified contractor would do (but do they? Well...many don't, believe me). Quick and thorough, and when the project got interrupted by rain, they kept us informed about that, too. They came out on a Saturday to get ahead of the weather and even let us know exactly what the local weekend construction ordinances were ahead of time so we'd know what to expect. I think that's what I'd say about them the most: No surprises. They don't do anything unexpected with the final invoice, they don't jerk you around, they don't treat you like you won't understand what they're doing. You're fully in the loop at all times and you're treated as a partner in the project. You get exactly the work and quality promised. And it's good work, with a 20 year guarantee. I'd highly recommend them.

While working, they discovered our dryer vent was heavily clogged and not releasing lint properly, turning what we thought was just a routine cleaning into saving us from a genuine fire hazard. Without missing a beat, Frank and Mark walked us through the issue, installed new piping, and cleared out every last trace of built-up lint in addition to meticulously cleaning out all the air and bathroom vents throughout the entire house. We always felt that our concerns were heard and addressed even when we decided to add a separate bathroom upgrade that wasn't in the original scope. Our project was impressively organized from coordinating trades to managing the timing of materials and appliance deliveries. The timeline we were given was realistic and well managed, and they stayed on schedule without ever compromising on quality. When we started planning, many of our friends related horror stories about overruns with their remodeling projects. However, we never faced this issue (much to their envy). I can't say enough good things about Dan and the team at Charles Electric. From the very beginning, Dan went completely above and beyond to help me with my generator problems. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but he genuinely cared about making sure I wasn't left without power while my generator was being repaired. What really impressed me was that Dan provided me with a loaner generator at no charge while mine was being fixed -- something he absolutely didn't have to do. Even more amazing, he ended up not charging me for anything at all. In today's world, that kind of honesty, generosity, and customer service is almost unheard of. It showed me that he truly cares about helping people and standing behind his work rather than just making money. Throughout the entire process, communication was excellent, the turnaround was fast, and I truly felt taken care of the entire time. You can tell Dan takes a tremendous amount of pride in his work and values long-term customer relationships built on trust and integrity. About a month ago the power was off in Emerald Hills (again!) and my generator was turning on but no power was coming out. I called every electrician that came up in a 'near me' search - only one replied that same afternoon: Dan from Charles Electric. He was already on a job but said he would stop by my place on his way home. It was over 90-degrees but he stopped by that same afternoon and quickly arrived at a preliminary diagnosis: the generator's rotor/stator was blown. He took the generator back to his shop and tried for days to see if Duromax could replace that. After it was clear that fixing was going to be close enough to replacing the generator I resigned myself to a big hit for a new one. Dan said he would drop off one of his own generators for me to borrow until I made the decision about what I wanted to replace the old dead one with. Long story short, Dan exercised his personal discount with Duromax to secure a much better generator at $700 less than the best price I could find. I was, and still am, a little stunned at his personal and professional generosity. I cannot recommend Dan at Charles Electric highly enough - the story speaks for itself. read more

This is classic customer service...Call him 650-766-1000! I needed help putting up a bunch of Christmas lights this year to raise our family's spirits. I have a disability. Dan Charles (Charles Electric) responded right away...he actually called me which made the experience better than the usual digital/email 'hurry up and wait'. And even though he was busy, we talked person-to-person and set up a day and time. He and his crew were 15 minutes early, in a good way, with terrific service and a 'real price'...no gouging just because the holidays are busy. A straight shooter. I'll use his services again for all things electrical and recommend them for home improvement projects, solar ideas and maintenance. The Charles Electric team installed a generator for us about a year ago - the install was very smooth and painless, and Dan has been a great resource for maintenance questions since then, and proactively checks in periodically to make sure all works fine. Also: When our neighborhood lost power for 48 hrs around Christmas 2025 due to very bad storms, Dan again proactively reached out to me to check on how our generator was working - good news is that it was working fine and we had full power; bad news was it had been running 48 hrs straight due to prolonged outage - AND, since I was out of town, he stopped by ON CHRISTMAS to check the unit and add some fresh oil. Danny and his crew have been doing work for my family for over 20 years. They are excellent! He is honest, reliable, personable and stands by his work. NEGATIVE FIVE STARS. Mr. Charles was hired to install recessed lighting. Simple installations. I found five flagrant electrical code violations and extremely sloppy workmanship, for which he overcharged. I found his work to be wasteful, sloppy, and potentially dangerous. When confronted about the poor quality of his work at an extremely high cost he became agitated and started yelling threats and acting violent. Mr. Charles promised to install several things, then he chose not to follow the work as planned. Demanded money for work not performed. Mr. Charles' preferred tool seems to be a sledgehammer. I purchased a 22KW Generac from Charle's Electric, HMB,CA in December before the great rains arrived. Dan came with his crew and installed the unit without fanfare or issues. It has operated exactly has promoted. We never lost our electricity because 4 seconds after the power is off, the Generac kicks in and full power is restored. Dan and his crew have performed immaculately and I recommend him and the Generac without hesitation. The price quoted was exactly what was suggested. I bought my Kohler backup generator from a Redwood City company that got sold before my first service appointment. Dan got back to us the same day we called and was great to communicate with, he responded very quickly to emails and texts. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful and reasonably priced. From the very start it was obvious to me that he comes with a wealth of experience and is simply an honest, hard-working man. I didn't have a very big project (sub-panel replacement), but he was still the only electrician from Yelp who paid me the courtesy of visiting my house in person before bidding. He was always on time, always responsive to calls and texts, and was just a pleasure to work with overall. As we talked about many things while he was working on the project, I felt like we became good friends. It quickly became apparent to me that I was talking to a real professional, with tons of experience handling projects of scale incomparable to mine. I learned that over his 45 years in the industry, he was involved in very large projects in key roles, managed rewiring of hospitals, stadiums, thousands of amperes of power, he knows it all. That he simply got tired of the intensity of big business and decided to work for himself and for the regular folk like you and me. And his pricing is very reasonable, too. I'd say you're getting an amazing deal hiring Kelly, with his experience and expertise he could very easily make much, much more as an industrial electrician or manager, he is overqualified for the jobs he is taking on now.
