When I went here the lady doing my nails started to put something extra on my nails (i think it was sparkles) without asking me and when I told her no thanks she said she couldn't take it off. So she charged me more and i was really confused and frustrated so she didn't end up charging me with the extra sparkles added but it was really confusing and frustrated me. I really want to love this salon because they are so caring, detail oriented and give a great message... but I had an expensive paraffin gel manicure (like what I'd usually pay for both hands and feet) for my son's first birthday with a two week trip to our rural county beach house for the big party and baby dedication at the church... the manicure started to lift away from near the cuticle the day after I got them done! Now it has been a week and two days and the problem with the manicure failing is so bad that in order to keep my hair from getting caught under the lifted gel when I shower I've had to peel it away to where what is left of manicure is securely attached to the nail. I usually I can get gel manicures to last me for three weeks because I'm so careful! I'm devastated because having this manicure was a real special treat not only for the occasion but for my limited stay at home mom finances! So bad! I took my daughter and her friend in there, and they gave all three of us the worst pedicures ever. It was expensive too because they charge for every aspect, so it was $10 per girl to add flowers to her nails and then they did it only on their big toes and did literally 4 white dots. They put my polish on so heavy that two hours later when I tried to put my shoes back on it smudged, and I ended up taking it all off that night. Good news is there is a great nail place in Hillsdale near the mcMenamins --they do a really quality job. But this place is awful! read more

1) I chose a neon yellow that ended up as mid- century olive green 2) I asked for a basic shellac manicure and the nail tech added on a neck and arm lotion massage without my consent. I said politely several times " thank you I am good" and she kept going. So uncomfortable 3) the nail tech talked me into using two colors aka a party nail ( solid colors) then when I went to pay they tacked on $5 for "nail art" 4) they charged me an extra $5 for taking off my old shellac. I've never been charged for that anywhere. They should just say shellac costs $40 not $35 . The only way the service would cost $35 is if you're going in with natural unpolished nails. When you leave the nail salon looking like you have two weeks grow out. Came in for a mani-pedi and got nails looking half done. HUGE gaps around the cuticles and sloppy toe nails that look like it's all been worn away when really it was just put on poorly. I came in for the first time today. I got the cat eye shellac manicure. Their basic shellac is $25, the cateye is additional $10! I did not know that and didn't think to ask if it was extra and the technician definitely did not care to mention it....super annoying for her to not be upfront. A courteous "hey, that is $10 extra, is that ok?' bc I would have said no thanks. I have no problem that it's extra, but it just would have been to have been told/asked or have it listed somewhere! And she was really rough with the electric buffer, made my nails burn several times and really hurt my cuticle area. read more

GF made an appointment for the two of us. Mani/pedi for her, pedi for me. As expected and appreciated, we were asked to fill out contact information due to COVID-19, and we had to wear masks the entire time. Staff was masked the entire time as well. The environment was very peaceful. Setting was quiet, lighting was appropriate, music was playing softly in the background. The nail technicians were very nice, friendly, funny, and attentive. The deluxe pedi included a hot stone massage which was a first for me. Normally it's extra at other places I've been, even in the deluxe package. When the massage was done, I did opt for additional foot massage time which was an additional $15 (or $1/minute per the sign on the wall). I figured what the heck since I'm waiting on the GF to finish anyway. GF was very pleased with the service as well. She had the shellac done for both mani and pedi and liked the final result. She also really enjoyed the hot stone foot massage and opted for a little extra time. They also gave her a light shoulder massage which was included with the manicure. Overall, it was a little more expensive than what I'm used to paying at other places, but that's mainly because of the additional massage time (which I was aware of). Otherwise, I'd say their services are competitively priced with other nail salons around town, plus they give better massages than most. On three separate occasions, this spa up-charges despite firmly telling them you don't want extras, they add on mystery prices without telling you and the price list is not accurate. So much love for this place! Definitely will be my nail place as long as I'm in Portland. The environment is SO relaxing, I always feel like I'm taking a day at the spa. I come in at least every two weeks for gel nails and a foot massage (when I don't need an actual pedicure). I'm on my feet on concrete all day for work and let me tell you- these ladies know how to give a massage. It's worth every penny and feels amazing. When you get a manicure they also give you a neck/shoulders/arm massage. They definitely go above and beyond when it comes to giving you a relaxing spa experience. And in my opinion so affordable. If I had 1 criticism I'd like to soak my feet for longer - so I'll be sure to ask for longer soaking next time. I had a manicure the last two visits as well, included a great arm/shoulder massage, which i needed after all the work I've been doing. I went on a weekday around 1pm, no waiting and no rush. Talked with the ladies working on me a bit about Vietnamese cuisine since I love it and have been learning to cook it. They were super friendly. They charge you $2 for the nail kit. They'd like you to reuse it for environmental reasons. If $2 is gonna cause you to flip your gasket and ruin a relaxing experience - I recommend going elsewhere. Don't waste your time or money! This afternoon my partner and I called Hillsdale Nails & SPA to schedule an appointment. We were assured we didn't need one and were encouraged to come in the same hour. We were told they have plenty of availability. When we arrived we picked out colors (pedicure) and were quickly seated. I told the salon that we both had shellac that needed to be removed before we started our pedicures. It was at least 15-20 minutes before we were both started. The girl who was doing my toes started to use metal instruments and a course file to start removing my shellac. I've always had shellac removed with remover, a cotton ball, and wrapped with aluminum foil. She proceeded to file each toe while the technician working on my partner's feet started the polish remover aluminum foil process. Once my nails were finished I discovered multiple toes hadn't been pained fully (around the edges) and on a couple entire corners were missed, while the clear coat was on my actual toes. When we went to pay we were asked for 5 additional dollars each for the removal of our shellac. This was never previously shared with us. Overall this was a very poor experience and we will never spend a single dollar at Hillsdale Nails & SPA in Hillsdale Center again! read more

She didn't redo only tried to clean them up and they still looked like a kindergarten kid did them with paint all over the skin. Also, I've been here before and points off for inconsistency. I've been here twice and am happy with a manicure and a pedicure. I have been to many nail places in Portland and I am certain to return here. I like the skill level. My manicure was great and really lasted. The arm massage was good, but she inadvertently bruised my arm. To her credit, I did not notice until later, but she did have a strong grip! I actually really liked her and would go back to her anyway. The pedicure was well done - my technician was proficient and detailed in making sure my toenails were balanced,even and no staining on the skin. Okay.... Let me start out by saying the following: I went to high school down the street. I am from this beautiful town of ours. I now live in Los Angeles (don't judge). In the city of Angels we have some hard working talented people. In the city of Roses we have some hard working talented people. The people at this salon do not work nor are they very talented. Last Saturday on of my dearest friends and I went here in the morning to get a mani/pedi. Sadly, I often don't expect much when I come home and get mani/pedis as they're typically not as good as they are in LA. People make excuses for it all of the time, but I call bullshit. Especially now that Portland is inundated with people from LA and Willamsberg, one would think that places like this would step it up. They have not. Not only are the massages not comfortable, the service is meh. They left us alone for a very long time. We eventually had to go up front to ask if we could pay. Everyone who worked there was outside having lunch; which, is awesome, but come on! Don't leave us behind like that. At least check in with us. To add insult to injury, my lady EXPECTED a tip after all of that. I gave her one but not without a price. I told her and the entire table that their lack of service and consideration sucked and they would be getting a review. Maybe they don't care, but I do. It's just not good business. Such a waste of money, and I have never been in a worse mood leaving a salon. I didn't even stay to get my nails repainted I wanted out of there so bad. Shocking how this nail place think it's ok to have to sell you nail files, buffers and a pumice stone while you're sitting in the chair. Those are not "extras" and they 99% of the time come with what you pay for in a base price. Not here. This is supposed to be a special treat to myself and a relaxing experience. It was anything but while being hustled to buy these things. I had a broken big toenail and wanted to take off my existing red polish and have them paint on a light pink polish to not draw attention to my toenail while it grows back. The red polish was still around my cuticles when they claimed they were done painting. I pointed out to the technician for the second time several of my nails still had lines of red around them that were very visible with the light pink polish they painted. I unfortunately paid my $23 and left due to frustration. Things should be done right the first time. Needless to say I painted my nails at home. This was my first and last visit here. Bottom line: Don't go here if you don't like being hustled, you want a well painted nail or you would like to relax and trust that you will be taken care of. SUCH a terrible experience. read more

I was greeted and smiled at right away. They were able to accommodate a pedicure. There was a little girl in the chair next to me, probably waiting for her mother, she was talkative, I pretty much ignored her, so did the staff. It was entertaining to hear some commentary from her. I upgraded my pedicure to the $30, with an extra massage. My feet were beat up from the prior week, so I needed it. I had never had a hot stone massage before during a pedicure, it was a nice touch. I like my polish, it was an OPI ---pinkish/purplish hue. They had many to chose from. When my toes were drying I noticed a bit of sloppy work - polish on my skin on a couple toes. I mean, it's pretty basic to clean that up. I didn't say anything. Paying was weird, too. I owed $30, but had $22 cash. I don't know if it was good or bad, but I read YELP reviews while I was getting my pedicure and saw they only accept cash, but you can use their ATM. I was able to swipe a card through. I tipped a bit in cash and a bit on card. She seemed to want my green cash, but I explained that all I had was $22 ----- so with the translation and my payment options slightly confusing, it wasn't the best experience. I needed to get my pedicure done because I was attending a wedding over the weekend. This was my first time at this location so I did NOT know that you had to provide your own nail file and toe separator.... OH, BUT don't worry because if you don't have one, they're kind enough to sell one to you for $2 O.o The ladies (and one gentleman) are friendly here. You can tell they do great work because of their regulars that come through the door. As someone new, I wasn't that impressed. The lady I had didn't pay too much attention to my nails/feet to get clean the nail and really give a good pedicure. While their complementary foot/calf massage was good, I felt as though the quality of their pedicure was mediocre. When I left, I found that there were a few toenails that were only painted on the front top (sides completely neglected) so my toenails looked weird. Lucky for me, I had the same color at home so I went back and did the edges, after thoroughly cleaning around my toes and cutting my toenails (SHE DIDN'T EVEN CUT MY TOENAILS.. WHAT). I like this salon. Prices are reasonable and service friendly. They do not do acrylic nails so no nail dust, chemical smell, or drill noises. I suppose that's a con if you have acrylics... They are generous with massages for pedis and manis so I like that. Anyway, the only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that they always bother me for cash when I want to pay with my credit card. I usually pay for at least two pedicures and sometimes a manicure or two so my bill is always in excess of $50 and a card payment should be reasonable to take. I read from some others that they have a no fee atm so I guess I could try that instead but it bothers me that people accept cards and have visa/MasterCard logos on their door then hassle you about it. read more

As a repeat customer I was extremely disappointed today. The person who gave me a pedicure was Kim. It was the fastest pedicure I've ever had and when she finished my feet were still incredibly dirty. Especially my heels. I asked her if she was done since she had moved to the next station and begun working on a new customer. It would have been appropriate for her to tell me that she was finished instead of moving over to the next client. Specially because she only worked on me about 20 or 25 minutes. In the past it has always taken about 40-45 minutes to get a pedicure. And when I walk out again I feel as though I've got my moneys worth. This time however it was a joke she hardly did anything my feet were filthy she didn't use that cheese grater thing which I desperately needed on my heels she only put on one coat of polish instead of two I never saw her put on a topcoat and the massage that she did on my feet and legs was a complete joke. Today's experience did not resemble my past experiences in this salon AND The price had gone up! When I spoke to both kim and the owner about it they were absolutely no help at all. They said if i paid another $15.00 which would bring the cost up to $45.00, i could have my heels done right. OMG! I expected the same service that I have gotten in the past. Even though the price had gone up I still wouldn't have had any problems if they had done what they have always done in the past. And they both argued with me and told me they haven't done that in the past. That I must have paid more to get my heels cleaned & whittled down. I ALWAYS GET THE SAME BASIC PEDICURE. I did not do anything differently. However, they are charging more and cutting out at least half of their services. It was a joke. I will never go back. read more
