My wife and I were just out seeing the sights during a rain storm while waiting on a music show to start in the evening. We saw the winery sign and decided to stop in at the Hillside Winery. We were pleasantly surprised. We really enjoyed almost every variety of wine. Katelyn was very helpful in explaining the details of the various flavors. She also told us about the Wine Trail that this winery is part of. We decided to visit all of the other winery locations the next day with a free gift of wine glasses after visiting three of them. This was our first stop on a little wine trail adventure we took on a Saturday afternoon. They looked really "commercial" from outside, but it ended up probably being one of our favorites from the trip. There is a large gift shop upon entering, which seems to be sort of a theme with the wineries in the area. You can try up to 4 for free, or pay to try a little more. They only had 3 dry wines, so we tried to dry ones and one of the semi sweets that was supposed to be more on the dry end. The wines were pretty good, but we really enjoyed the Zinfandel. Our service was great, and the man who helped us was very friendly and informative. We may have taken a bottle home if we hadn't just bought a bottle elsewhere. Your visit to Sevierville, TN, in the Great Smoky Mountains is not complete without a visit to the Hillside Winery. I have been to the wine tasting at Hillside Winery several times and always look forward to returning . Hillside Winery specializes in Italian Style and Bubbly Wines. They also make a large selection of sweet wines which I think are quite good . This year they had a special wine, 'Black and Blue', a blackberry blueberry wine which may be my favorite. It excited my palate, is very good tasting and is good for you too. I also really liked the 'Cantina Blanca', which was very aromatic and sweet and was a blend of Italian Muscato and Tennessee Muscadine! The cost per bottle is in the area of $15 - $19 at all of the 'Rocky Top Wine Trail ' wineries. The tours are educational and family friendly. (The kids usually get grape juice). Limited tastings were offered and we were lucky enough to arrive during that time ! All of their wine is made on sight and is a very good wine. We always bring a few 'souvenirs bottles' home. read more

I enjoyed the wine sampling here. We stayed at the Wyndham so we received 6 free samples with 10% off our purchase. My favorites were the Hillside Mist, which is a sparkling Asti and Black and Blue, a wine made of blackberries and blueberries. It is supposed to be a healthy, antioxidant wine, so that was my first choice. What I loved to do is mix the Hillside Asti and the Black & Blue, which tastes amazing by the way! I enjoyed both wines and our bartender was very informative in helping us choose our wines :) read more

Very nice small local winery. The staff is very inviting and friendly. They offered a free tasting in a laid back atmosphere. The kind of place you don't have to be a wine person to enjoy. They offer tours and have a little gift shop with reasonably priced offerings. They don't pressure you to buy after the tasting and are very laid back. This is hands down the best winery in the area! I'd recommend going to the other two wineries first - The Applebarn and Mountain Valley - and just trying like maybe a handful of a their terrible wines so you can get your free wine glass. Go to the Hillside winery last and you will leave there pleasantly buzzed and with drinkable wine. Not only was the wine master Shane super knowledge about the wines but he let us try as many wines as we wanted. My group really liked the sparkling wine that tastes a lot like Asti and also the Black and Blue wine made with berries. We had such a great time here! We all left with big smiles on our faces and several bottles of wine. When you go there, ask to see Shane, he is hands down the best wine tasting host I've ever had. read more

This is the best winery in the area, hands down, no questions asked! I've been here a couple of times for part of the wine tour (which I highly recommend) and every time I've had an absolute blast! The people working here are amazing and really love their jobs! It's a great relief. The people doing the tastings know what they're talking about and genuinely want to have a conversation with you. They have no limits on how many varieties you want to try either. They also have a shop that has the cutest wine type accessories. I'm a fan of fruitier and semi sweet wines, and its hard to choose what to buy. Buy a 3 pack for yourself or split it between others in your group and it'll be cheaper. Also be prepared with a driver as they don't skimp on the samples, so you can actually enjoy and fully taste the wine. I recommend trying the Black and Blue, no matter your wine preference. This is one of the five wineries in the Rocky Top Wine Trail and my favorite overall. The servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. This layout is one of the best. The wine tasting is next to large windows where you can watch the process and take tours. It is also away from the store portion and you aren't running into people trying to shop. My favorite wine here is the Vino Rosso. It's described as Welches on Steroids. Very good and on the sweet side for those of you who like sweet wines. They have a Black and Blue which changes flavors as you take more sips. Definitely a winner. Definitely a favorite for us and we visit here whenever we go wine tasting. read more

My family and I were in town from Florida. God do we love the smokies. Unfortunately this is a stop we should have not made. The place is cute inside but the managers are HORRIBLE. As I walked in, I was greeted by a lady by the name of Sara. ( Manager later found out) she had on a tank top with a lot showing, which I don't think is appropriate. Especially with children and husbands coming in. It's a wine place!!!!! She was very rude to the customers in a fake sort of way. She was very bossy to the employees there and was very talkative about customers. How they should have bought stuff, wine tasting free doesn't mean to just come in a taste. You should buy something. I looked at her and she smiled saying " I was just kidding". Of course I didn't find it funny. Of course at this point I'm ready to go. The wine was good but the service was horrible. I asked earlier to the manager Sara. Who was the district manager of this location. She stated SHE WAS! Looking further into it because I was just so disappointed and disgusted. She is only the GENERAL MANAGER. What else could they be lying about? The vibe when you walk in, doesn't seem so friendly. My son was playing with his sisters Barbie and a gentleman with short facial hair, hat looked over at the wine stand to the employees to laugh. My son is 5!!!!!!!!!! I will never be back. He explained in detail about the wines and what they would go well with. We also talked to the vintner, who was very laid back and told us about his job as a wine maker. This was the third stop on the Rocky Top Wine Trail for my friend and I. It was definitely our favorite winery to visit, mostly because of Kev. We didn't feel rushed at this one, even though they were busy. Kev was rotating between us and another couple, so we had plenty of time to savor and taste each wine. Our favorite by far was the Black and Blue, which is a blackberry/blueberry wine and delicious. Between the two of us, we ended up taking home about 7 bottles of this stuff. I came in to taste some wines and was helped by Kate. When you walk in you see a gift shop area and to your left is a bar for the tastings. Behind you is the wine production behind a large window. There are no chairs so wear a comfy shoe and be prepared to drink fast. This is a get in and get to the next place kind of winery but I didn't mind at all as I'm generally impatient anyway. I did the free tasting and got four 1/2 ounces pours. Kate hooked me up with an additional sample of mulled wine which I purchased and a cranberry bubbly. The cranberry bubbly was just like my favorite poinsetta that I enjoy at brunch from time to time. The mulled wine was well spiced but still packed an alcohol punch and Kate wrote the directions down for me. I also tried the black and blue their most popular wine which was tart and sweet like a blueberry married a blackberry. I also purchased the muscadine wine the cantina Bianca that literally tasted like my childhood spent eating muscadine sand spitting out the seeds on the porch. My purchase was packaged in a nice box to go and I was on my way to the next winery. I'll definitely be back. read more

Being from central California I will tell you that all the wine in this region are SWEET! That being said I can still appreciate a good sweet wine. My husband and I liked their Black and Blue and purchased a bottle to take home. My favorite thing about this place was the gift shop!!!!
