I moved to LA shortly before they closed so I was excited to see they were opening back up and an added bonus they would have a hidden speakeasy inside with live performances on certain days. My friend and I went opening weekend and it was a bust. We couldn't get in, Terrace Martin was performing so I wasn't surprised that it was super packed. No problem I knew I'd try them another day. Anyhoo a couple of weeks later I was in Lemiert Park for an art exhibit and decided to give Harun another shot. I don't drink coffee but when I looked at their menu online I saw they had smoothies so I walked over. Immediately when I walked in the vibe was off. There were 2 customers seated already. The woman at the register didn't acknowledge me at all. Shortly after a man came out with items for the 2 customers. He didn't say anything. I start reading the menu but didn't see anything about smoothies so I ask the lady at the front if they had them. She pretty much waved me off and said that's what we have or atleast that's what it sounded like she said. I look back at the menu and again didn't see smoothies so I asked her again. She does the same thing like she can't be bothered with my with questions. Atp it does look like she is making something or maybe handling another order but a simple "give me a sec and I'll be with you" would have sufficed. After that I just walked out. I love my people but black owned or not I don't spend my money where it's doesn't seem to be wanted or appreciated. Went across the street to ORA(which is my normal smoothie spot in Leimert Park). Greeted as soon as I walked in, they switched up their menu some but guy at the front explained it all to me with no problem. Completely different experience. I used to frequent this area a lot on Sundays back when Sika Shop was around and hosted the African Market Festival (usually in August or September), so when I noticed this coffee shop had opened, I was curious. I'm more into matcha, while my daughter leans toward coffee, so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in, it wasn't very busy, two women ahead of us and two women working behind the counter (one older cashier and a younger woman making drinks). My daughter was looking for something along the lines of a vanilla latte with caramel and cinnamon, but didn't really see anything that matched what she usually likes. She asked a few questions, but the cashier didn't seem very engaged or warm, even sipping on a drink. It just didn't feel welcoming, which immediately set the tone. I went ahead and ordered a matcha with cream top (12 oz) for $13. For context, the most I've ever paid elsewhere for a 16 oz matcha is around $8.50, so this felt steep. I told myself maybe it would be worth it... but unfortunately, it wasn't. It tasted mostly like straight milk, with very little matcha flavor. Nothing memorable. There was a really pretty drink I noticed, purple in color with matcha and what I believe was coconut water. I actually would've preferred to try that, and later a guy who came in and answered my questions about it was quite nice. But first impressions matter, and the initial vibe didn't really rub me the right way. I will say: the décor is nice. My daughter went into the second room/hidden area next door and said it was really cute. I've also seen videos on IG and it does look aesthetically pleasing. I really wanted to love this place. It being Black-owned and located in an area I used to frequent often, especially when I would bring my daughter here when she was younger, made me genuinely excited to support it. I came here on my break and ordered a latte with an egg and cheese biscuit with jelly and it was divine. The servings are small but good. It's expensive for a coffee and small egg biscuit I paid $21! But was it worth? Hell yes it was! I'm not sure if I ever tasted a coffee this good before. Not sure if it was the coffee itself was good or if it was the way the girl behind the counter made it. It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that the wall was a door and the portal to one of the most comfortable cafes I've been in. Ordering was a breeze and the helpful staff got me a vanilla latte and the chicken biscuit in what felt like moments. Both were good and enjoyed in the side room that was an inviting warm/brown. The seating was plush and comfortable and folks could be found in every corner. Conversations, reading, and work were getting done everywhere I could see. Yummy! Came to pick up a biscuit sandwhich with smoked salmon and loved it. The service was great. It's cozy and casual inside. But back to the biscuit: biscuit is perfect and soft. I stopped by Harun Coffee and decided to try their hibiscus lemonade, so good. It was sweetened with something (can't quite remember what), but it had the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, which I really enjoyed. I also ordered a chai tea, which was decent; I personally prefer mine a bit stronger, but it was still enjoyable. The customer service really stood out. The guy taking our order was warm, welcoming, and didn't rush us at all, which made it a great first experience. What really impressed me was how fast and efficient they were. Our drinks were already finished being made before we even completed payment. I didn't have to stand around waiting at all, which was a nice touch. I didn't order any food this time, so I can't speak on that, but the ambiance of the shop was very chill and relaxing. Overall, definitely worth a visit. read more

Dear Yelp Community, I visited for the first time this week, and what a pleasant surprise...much more than a coffee shop! Upon entry, I was greeted by a professional and pleasant man who made me a good chai latte and explained about the venue, then another man gave me a personal tour of the shop because there is another section that is divided by a secret door into a cozy room with high ceilings, diverse furniture (with descriptions on the wall in the other area of the shop with the espresso machine), an area as a platform for performers, a wall area for projected films, as well as restroom with information on the walls that portray the history of the neighborhood (Leimert Park) and African-American history (cultural heritage). Also, I was informed that this venue is a dry space (no alcohol), open very late, has a kitchen with food, and offers community events. I highly recommend this venue. Enjoy, and well wishes. I stumbled across this coffee shop while walking around the neighborhood. The place is very minimalistic, and has limited seating. There's a separate room for hosting meetings or events and they sell things there too. I wish they had more food variety and more comfortable seating. This place and location has great potential that I feel is untapped. The service was great but the coffee wasnt anything special that I would come back solely for. This is a beautiful space, and that is unfortunately the only good thing I can say about this cafe. My drinks were completely forgotten about. I went up to ask about my order 3 times in the hour I was waiting for it. The first time I went up, no one really seemed to care to even start making it even though at this point, it'd been 20 minutes since I ordered. After 40+ minutes I was told they were "still getting my order out." This was not true because when I gave them one final shot and went up after 52 minutes, I was asked what my order even was, I then just decided to ask for a refund. Barista also walked past my friend and I multiple times, delivering drinks to others without acknowledging that we still hadn't received our order. I tried to give them grace but, maybe they need to close and reopen again. Disappointed, won't be back. read more

Came here for a coffee one morning and it had such a cool vibe. They upsold me on their "secret menu" matcha waffle with bananas and pineapple and it was pretty good! The reason for the three stars though was the coffee :/ if I'm spending all this money on a mocha and an americano, I'd expect it to be better quality. The Americano tasted watered down and the mocha was super sweet. Also, they had no pastries available on a Tuesday morning at 8:30am which was a bummer. Would love to come back and give the place another chance though if they update their recipes. $23 for a small mocha, small americano and a waffle. read more

I opted for the Unity smoothie (Acai, blueberries, strawberries, banana, granola, agave, almond milk) and the Forward smoothie which features: Harun's house blend espresso, almond milk, vegan chocolate syrup agave, chocolate protein powder, cacao powder (MUST TRY!) the coffee shop is bright, filled with natural light, and a section of the store floats into a mini African art gallery. There is metered parking in the area -- you'll need to walk a block to get to the shop. There is plenty of outdoor seating to chill and hangout, but please be mindful + respectful of the area you're entering as it is a safe space for the community. Love the changing artwork in here. My friend and I needed to kill time as we were waiting on our order from Worldwide Tacos; so we figured to stop by Harun. They were blasting one of my favorite PND songs and that's when I knew we came to the right place. I ordered an iced charcoal latte (think regular latte - sub oat milk and add in activated charcoal!) The sweetness of the oat milk brought it to life! The graininess of the charcoal gave it some texture and character to the smooth espresso. This coffee shop was extremely bright with natural lighting and illuminating white walls that had art spread throughout the place. There were some local items (apparel, postcards, etc.) for sale and this watermelon salsa that caught my eye... I didn't indulge, but I may be tempted next time! Haha. I saw a few people come in to catch up with friends, others came to study for a bit, and some just grab & go. A variety of visitors, which was dope to see. There were some vegan donuts on display, but since I was waiting for my main course, I didn't want to mess up my appetite! Definitely need to try the next time I visit. I gave Harun a second chance after patronizing this establishment a couple years ago and having a less than stellar customer service experience. The coffee was also lackluster at that time. One thing changed since then. I recently returned and the customer service was top notch! However, I paid OVER $7 for a beverage and received the wrong beverage. The barista misunderstood my order and, to save him from wasting it, I told him I'd accept it. Never again. I overpaid for something I could have gotten, in a venti, from Starbucks, and actually enjoyed. (And also not driven out of my way for.) The music selections have actually been what's on point the couple times I've been there. The retail space next door also had some cool rugs I'd just seen on Instagram. That doesn't make up for the fact that I was served the wrong beverage and said beverage was made with sugar free syrup. Sugar free... (There were no options for flavored syrup with sugar, which makes NO sense.) Baby does not wanna eeee-eeee for Sugar Free, Free - at least not syrup. (If you know, you know.) I have since gone grocery shopping and will consume my iced coffee from home. A large bottle was $2 less than the cup I received and did not enjoy. I will not return, as this is clearly not the establishment for me. It is a really nice, clean space and the barista was cooler than an A/C on a 100 degree day, but I cannot support an establishment that cannot do right by me - whether customer service or quality of product. This is a great establishment! I came on 10am on a Friday and there was only one other person there. The space was really nice with an attached art gallery. I also really liked how easy it was to Park- there was diagonal metered spots right in front. I got a dirty iced chai and it was pretty good. My husband got a gluten free doughnut that he also said was good and he doesn't usually like gluten-free things. The neighborhood is great with a park less than a block away. read more

Customer service goes a long way, and my experience was really bad. I was very disappointed. I was visiting home for A week and I had a goal to hit up as many Black Owned coffee shops as I could during My visit. I was really excited about Harun coffee, I kept missing out because of the hours of operation had changed and they are only open on specific days. So finally the day I was flying out I finally made it. Excited I walked in, We weren't Greeted or made to feel welcome. The next customer that came in behind us stood in line in the doorway. A young lady at the counter rudely shouted to her and told her to close the door. The vibe was all off. But I shrugged it off I was still excited about my first visit! The customer ahead of me got finished and walked away, so I approached the counter and started looking at the menu and the girl behind the counter just looked at me. She didn't smile, she didn't greet me, she didn't say anything. it took her a moment to even ask me what I wanted to order. I'm not sure if she had a bad day or not but even the other 2 male workers seem to be dull due to the young ladies bad energy. I ordered a unity smoothie. My best friend changed her mind about even ordering because of the customer service. Once it was ready it was brought to the counter and there happened to be a miscommunication and mixup between the person making the smoothie and the young woman at the counter. one person said it was my smoothie the next person said it wasn't. finally the young woman insisted that it was my smoothie. So I took the smoothie and tasted it, and it was terrible it tasted like water no flavor just bland. I took the smoothie back inside with intentions to just get something else however the young lady's attitude was so bad when I told her that I didn't like the smoothie. She just took my smoothie turned around to her coworker and demanded a remake. I told her no ma'am I don't want another smoothie. she says "what else can I get" In a very snappy tone. At This moment, I simply told her you can just give me my money back she rolled her eyes walked over to the register. Started pressing buttons on the register, still no verbal communication on what she was doing. She never even offered. She looked at me and told me my money will be back on my card after watching me stand there. I honestly hate that I had this experience. I was really wanting it to be better. However it wasn't and I'm always going to post reviews about my experience and this one was not great maybe next time I'm in town I'll try it again and hope it is better read more

The most divine smoothie I think I've ever had...order the Unity Smoothie!!! Spotted this cute cafe when I was waiting in line for Eso Won Bookstore, so I popped in after I got my books. The cafe has a spacious interior and several distanced tables set up outdoors. Service was super chill and pleasant. I decided on the Unity smoothie after not really feeling up for caffeine and seeing so many posts on Yelp about the Unity. It was the perfect amount of sweetness (just a little), so creamy, banana and berry flavors poppin, super refreshing on a hot day like today, and overall it was just amazing. Admittedly the granola was a cute touch but a little awkward, because it can't fit through the straw. Anyways, I will have dreams about this smoothie and how beautiful it was. I also got a donut, but I wasn't a huge fan of the particular cake base they used. It was really fluffy and lightly sweet, but i have a personal preference for a denser cake donut with more frosting.
