Despite attempting to consign here on multiple occasions, I can never get an appointment with this shop. They always seem to be too busy, too full of items, not taking what I have to consign, etc., etc., etc. Very frustrating! read more

I went into the store last week because I had some extra time before meeting my friend downtown. I've been in the store before and I've always felt the pricing can be high as I've seen a used Target brand coat marked $40 ‍ The store itself is clean and well organized. There was a sales clothes rack when you walk in $9.99, I looked and saw nothing I liked. Then there was a sale rack of what looked like all out of season women's coats , a sign said $29.99. I didn't see any I liked or had to have. I looked over the rack and there was a small area of men's coats again with the $29.99 sign. This is a consignment store so most of the time when you consign your item is on the floor in this type of store for sale for 'x' number of days and then the item is donated or possibly picked back up by the consignor. So it is not unlikely that the items starting overpriced get heavily marked down. So on the men's rack I saw a coat that I really liked- it was older but NWT leather w/a fur collar. You can find it on sale on eBay for $69.99. Hilltop started the price at $249, they had intermittently marked it to $149 and it was on the $29.99 rack as well as other jackets that were marked $89.99. When I took it to checkout I asked a middle aged woman on the floor who had been watching me that it was $29.99. She made the worst expression and said she didn't think so. Then she asked an older lady who then said no too, it was on the wrong rack. It wasn't marked. I went back to the rack to look because I only saw 1 between the 30 coats in the 2 areas that was marked $29.99! They didn't really mark the coats they just had a sign so I tried to explain that that didn't make sense. Then one of the lady's proceeded to explain basically that a large family of like 20 people came in and tried all the coats on and put them all over the store! . If your first reasoning doesn't work then go ahead and make it crazier! So you were basically ransacked the other day , knew it and didn't check, yes that's what the nice older lady explained.. she finally apologized and said she was sorry she hadn't checked even though in her story she knew the coats weren't in the right place Now because I was frustrated she said it's a consignor's item so she couldn't honor the price but she'd see what she could do. She proceeded to tell me she had an account where she sold stuff and used it for "people who needed it". So I could have the $50 ish dollars in the account and take the money from people who really need it so I could have a coat I liked ‍ I'm giving the business 3 stars b/c I don't think it's a bad business and it's a small business but the experience is shared so people know. read more

This is our family's favorite shop! It goes on and on filled with all kinds of things from tiny jewelry to wonderful furniture. We live far away, but we do get to help family pick things out that we get to use when we are here! Still our suitcases get filled and we often send things home because the selection is so great and the prices are so good! It is a resale shop, not a thrift store. This trip we found some great old books, jewelry, china, and vintage Christmas items. One more visit before we head home. Today I went for the 1st time and met both Adriana and Sue who work there. They are both extremely nice and helpful. I am having a gorgeous French Provençal bedroom set delivered there on July 29th. I feel extremely confident that they will be able to sell it at a good and fair price. While I was there, I browsed around and bought a few beautiful things at reasonable prices which will go well with my new modern bedroom set that's coming on the 30th. I highly recommend going there. I live in Hampstead and it was worth the 45 minute drive. I will be back. read more

Always been a good consignment shop - and continues to be under the new owner (who used to work for former owner Paula Genovese). Hilltop tends to offer clean, good quality, interesting and useful "stuff" at reasonable prices. Of course we all realize that what's useful and reasonable lies in the eyes of the beholder, so I will conclude with these words: You never know what you might find at Hilltop Consignment, but you will almost always find something - whether it's for you or someone else. We found some nice Lionel trains here, and I found a beautiful cotton blouse. There are all kinds of treasures, you just have to look!

The staff at Hilltop were so kind and helpful. The woman went out of her way to ask what my taste was and showed me some beautiful pieces that were just up my alley. The prices are great and the selection is outstanding. I will certainly be coming back for more antique goodies! read more
