King burger n fries
Thelma F.

King's very good, grilled onions are a great addition. Standard fries, cooked perfectly. Double cheeseburger all the way didn't disappoint either. Hop scotch was delicious and dipped ice cream cone hit the spot.

Local mom and pop, tried the kings burger beef was very good, fixins are garden fresh, fries are the standard crispy fries. Drinks are a good mix on the pop, and the sweet tea is good enough to satisfy my wife from Tennessee! Hipscotch sundae is great HOT fudge and butterscotch, wife had the dipped cone. Great food for the value and great hoosier hospitality.

Sloppy joe & fries

Went here for the first time for lunch with a friend. She ordered a sloppy joe, fries & a strawberry shortcake. I had a cheeseburger. Our food came out in 10 minutes. The dining room was closed so we ate at a picnic table in the back of the restaurant. My friend said her sloppy joe was good & I sampled her fries - they were hot & crispy. My cheeseburger was very good. I didn't sample the shortcake but it looked decadent. The employees were friendly & knowledgeable. I would eat here again.

A throwback to 60 years ago - in a great way! Breaded pork tenderloin sandwich was huge, tender and delicious. Onion rings done perfectly with zero greasiness. Chocolate cherry flurry for dessert. If you are traveling on I-70 it is more than worth the 5 mile drive to enjoy great food and historic atmosphere. We be a regular stop for me now.

Spacious dining area with booths or tables.

This place has become a drive to destination for myself and my dad the last two years. We live about 30 min away and think the Hilltop is well worth a drive for a good Coney Dog. Malt or whatever hits our fancy on that given day. It is a quaint little mom & pop ice cream stand with a great little diner attached. It reminds you of days gone by as you stand in line outside to get your favorite to eat in your car or take with you. The attached dine-in old fashion diner style tables is clean. cozy and pleasant when you are in the mood for a full meal. The staff is friendly and efficient which is such a bonus compared to fast food chains where you get a tray, order and serve yourself and then have to bus. At Hilltop you get a great burger, crinkle fries with the option for a Sundae after from your friendly server. No matter where you live it is worth the drive if you are in Central Indiana.

This is an old school dairy bar with a walk-up window and a teeny tiny dining room. They have a variety of frozen treats like sundaes and parfaits, but most importantly, chocolate dip cones. They also have sandwiches, fries, and other snacky foods. There are a few picnic tables and benches outside to enjoy your treats during warmer weather.

The previous time I stopped at this place, they were closed for their daughter's wedding, so the service was a bit slow. I was over at Lincoln High School photographing track and field and I decided to try again, although past 7 p.m., I wasn't sure whether they'd be open this early in the season. There are a lot of these tiny places that require you to sit in your car to eat but Hilltop has an enclosed dining room with a few tables. It was crazy busy, and I really wasn't sure how things worked, so I stood at the inside window for a while. After dealing with the crush of earlier customers outside, a woman came over to help me. I told her about the wedding sign that was there on my previous visit, and she said "That was my daughter's wedding. We'll blame it on her." as a joke. :-D I couldn't find a menu at the window--apparently, you're supposed to sit down and look at the menu at the table. I hadn't seen any waiter/waitress while I was waiting, so that didn't seem a good bet. In any case, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, seasoned fries, and a medium chocolate malted--$7.80 total. The sandwich and fries were inexpensive so the chocolate malt must have been a bit expensive. Still, compared to the chain restaurants where you might not get something good, I didn't feel bad at all. The same woman who took my order brought out the malt. I'm not sure what happened but there was a cup inside the cup and she said not to separate them. It was so thick--the malt, not the cup--that I had to use the spoon she gave me for quite a while. It was also good enough to remind me of childhood. The grilled cheese and seasoned fries were also very good. I normally would eat them with soda (or what people here often call "pop") but it didn't seem right going to a place that served ice cream--even if I have a cow's milk allergy. The whole experience was good and the friendly people there made it enjoyable. If there was a drawback, it was so busy that they hadn't cleaned the tables, and you might not find a table at all. While they had some benches outdoors, there were no tables out there.

The town was quiet on Saturday morning. But not at Lumpy's Cafe. The small diner that seats about…read more50 was full, with people waiting by the door for a table to open. Apparently, Lumpy's is a favorite of the locals. The staff calls the regulars by name. Everyone else is "Honey." I was "Honey." There was a table of regulars drinking coffee and talking politics and shooting the bull. It's a salt of the earth kind of local diner. A table opened up by the door after ten minutes. The menu is filled with comfort food. Most meals under $10. Nothing fancy, omelettes, burgers, sandwiches. Our server was sweet and recommended the tenderloins. The dining room is simple. Chairs and tables and a few booths. On the back wall are old photos of veterans. Local veterans being remembered by the cafe. My husband had the Big Tenderloin (which is award winning) with seasoned fries. The tenderloin was as big as his head. The meat was moist and tender and the breading seasoned well. The fries were crispy thin-cut with a few spices. He ate half the sandwich. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It was also seasoned with a crunchy breading similar to the tenderloin. The meat was moist. The cole slaw was creamy and sweet....delicious. They do a robust business in-house and carry out. If you are looking for avocado toast and and oat milk latte, this is not the place to come. If good old comfort food will suffice, then it just doesn't get better than Lumpy's.

Lumpy's has good food, but what this place offers beyond the food is a old fashioned atmosphere…read more You know in the movies when people in small towns go to the local diner and everyone knows everyone and strangers are welcomed like family, this place is exactly that, but real. It gives you a warm feeling watching people catching up with each other and just being friendly. And the staff is a huge part of that experience. They will make you feel like a VIP. You might even meet some of the cooks who sometimes deliver the food themselves and the owner who also has a strong presence in the restaurant. So if you are passing through town or antiquing, stop by Lumpy's to experience some small town hospitality. Maybe I'll see ya there.

Avoid this place like the plague. For 2 salads 1 Pepsi and a small glass of milk $35.00…read more A small milk was $4. The additional eggs was two dollars, and fifty cents, and a small pepsi was two dollars. And fifty cents. No eggs for the salad and no mushrooms for the salad. No fruit on the salad bar. No french dressing rude waitresses. And we had to pay extra ford eggs. Yet when I call them and ask them if it was a full solid bar they said, oh yes, of course. They did say that the salad bar was unlimited. What little or was. Yet, they required you to get a second small plate rather than just give you one large plate to get your food. Places like this should be shut down. Save your money go to mcdonald's at least there. They have eggs in a salad. When my wife informed them that we would not be back to have dinner here ever again. The cook basically, just shrugged your shoulders and said, whatever. It's businesses like this that give the United States a bad name.

None of the food stood out to me, or made me want to go back. There's no wow factor. French fries are crinkle cut and bland so make sure you add seasoning. Mushroom burger was just a flavorless mushroom burger. It was ok. But not worth the 40 minute drive.
