The town was quiet on Saturday morning. But not at Lumpy's Cafe. The small diner that seats about 50 was full, with people waiting by the door for a table to open. Apparently, Lumpy's is a favorite of the locals. The staff calls the regulars by name. Everyone else is "Honey." I was "Honey." There was a table of regulars drinking coffee and talking politics and shooting the bull. It's a salt of the earth kind of local diner. A table opened up by the door after ten minutes. The menu is filled with comfort food. Most meals under $10. Nothing fancy, omelettes, burgers, sandwiches. Our server was sweet and recommended the tenderloins. The dining room is simple. Chairs and tables and a few booths. On the back wall are old photos of veterans. Local veterans being remembered by the cafe. My husband had the Big Tenderloin (which is award winning) with seasoned fries. The tenderloin was as big as his head. The meat was moist and tender and the breading seasoned well. The fries were crispy thin-cut with a few spices. He ate half the sandwich. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It was also seasoned with a crunchy breading similar to the tenderloin. The meat was moist. The cole slaw was creamy and sweet....delicious. They do a robust business in-house and carry out. If you are looking for avocado toast and and oat milk latte, this is not the place to come. If good old comfort food will suffice, then it just doesn't get better than Lumpy's. read more

Lumpy's has good food, but what this place offers beyond the food is a old fashioned atmosphere. You know in the movies when people in small towns go to the local diner and everyone knows everyone and strangers are welcomed like family, this place is exactly that, but real. It gives you a warm feeling watching people catching up with each other and just being friendly. And the staff is a huge part of that experience. They will make you feel like a VIP. You might even meet some of the cooks who sometimes deliver the food themselves and the owner who also has a strong presence in the restaurant. So if you are passing through town or antiquing, stop by Lumpy's to experience some small town hospitality. Maybe I'll see ya there. read more

What a local gem! Service was fantastic. We all had the "small" tenderloin with either fries or onion rings. We could barely finish and unfortunately did not have room to get dessert, it looked so good. I'll stop again when I'm in the area. read more

My father-in-law LOVES this place and eats here four times a week for breakfast. When my husband and I were in town visiting from North Carolina, he was so excited to take us to Lumpy's. I've definitely had better. The food was typical diner food and very greasy and fatty. Whatever you do, do not get the biscuits and gravy-- you'll be paying for it for the remainder of the day!! I guess if you're into small-town diners, you might like this place, but I wasn't impressed. read more

Great staff, friendly and courteous. Waited about 40 minutes for our food. Biscuits were awesome with their apple butter, fries were very tasty but super disappointed with their famous tenderloin sandwich. I think maybe we went on a bad day? We were recommended to go there and to have the tenderloin sandwich, which are hard to find on the west coast so needless to say I was really craving them. Then huge let down when it arrived at our table. The small tenderloin was the size of a salad plate and was super dry and the big tenderloin was the size of a dinner plate (ridiculous) that my husband had to cut the excess so he could eat it. I have dry left over tenderloin.that will probably go into the compost. It was hard to cut with a steak knife. I will go back just to see if they do a better job. I don't know what life would be like without Lumpys in the world and I certainly don't want to find out! Absolutely the BEST breakfast around. The staff is amazingly friendly. You can always see someone you know while you enjoy your food. Lunch is great but I usually stick to breakfast. They do have pretty big burgers though. I highly recommend the 'George'. Incredible little gem of Cambridge City. My dad and I make special trips over from a surrounding community about 20 minutes away to eat at lumpy's. Breakfast lunch or dinner all three are wonderful! Today my dad and I were there about 2 o'clock but both opted to eat breakfast for our lunch. I had the lumpy's menu special with hashbrowns onion green pepper tomato cheese and choice of meat, which I chose bacon. I ask if the hashbrowns could be made crispy and they came out just the way I like them! Also had plenty of bacon for flavor with everything else included. My dad had a full order of biscuits and gravy heaped with a generous portion of really tasty gravy he said. When inquiring with our server about the hours it turned out it was one of the owners. She said she likes to claim she is the wife of the owner jokingly, but in actuality was a owner who was also waiting tables. Once I realized that she was an owner along with being our server I understand why the food is so good because they take a personal interest in the business. Best place I can think of in a 30 or 40 mile radius to go and have a good home cooked meals. Plus they have just recently remodeled and it is nice and fresh, clean and cozy feeling. read more

My family LOVES this place! They have the best breakfast of any other place. Awesome biscuit and gravy. Only open from 6a-2p but I go here whenever I get a chance. Its been one year seance I have given a review here!! last one was January 23, 2017 and it was for a 5 star!!! However over the last couple of months as me and my family "where" regulars at least twice a week NOT ANYMORE!!! Today the service was terrible it had been shaky in the last few visits but today I felt like I was no longer a local in my community or a regular at Lumpy's Cafe the atmosphere was unfriendly and is not the upbeat place I used to visit. Me and my son went in sat ourselves and placed our order. Our waitress brought us drink. We asked for straws and it was not until our food came to the table that we received them. I wanted to use some pepper and was unable to find any on any of the tables. Of course I could not find my waitress and she was the only one that was serving the entire place. So I have to get up and run her down just to get what I needed. Then as I am getting ready to eat I find hair in my Home Fries that had been entwined in them before frying. Now I know this happens from time to time. So I kindly speak to one of the kitchen help and let her know what was in my food. I sat there for some time and my waitress never came to my table. I was never asked if I wanted them to remake my meal either. As I went to the register and spoke with the owners wife I told her what had happened she grabbed the ticket and said your taken care of. I have tipped these waitresses every time I go in any where from $15.00 to $20 each and every time!!!!!!!! on bills that are most of the time $20.00 or less. I would have thought that after doing this for the two years I have went in there I would be taken care of a lot better then what I have been over the last few months. It makes me sad that Lumpy's has changed there path of customer service. I love to support Local Business but I feel as if that business has to keep up the standards they have shown in the past. Seems Like Lumpy's has lost sight of the customers in the new opening Of Lumpy's North in Hagerstown IN. My hope is that they can get back to where they once where and delight in there customers as we once used to delight in there service. read more
