a bathroom with a sink, toilet, and window

Chris and his employee Alex did an excellent job on our full bathroom renovation. From the proposal phase to project completion, Chris was great about communicating and setting expectations, providing guidance as we purchased materials, and promptly completing the renovation on time. The end result looks great! We would recommend Chris for your remodel project.

Excellent company to work with. Chris was very responsive flexible to my requests. They did everything that was expected from them, and did quality work. No surprises, just a job well done.

Quality Residential Electrical - Successful GFCI!

    Quality Residential Electrical

I found Chris via Yelp when I had a wall that start buzzing when I turned on a light switch,…read morecoupled with a three way switch that wasn't behaving normally anymore. No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes).

Deerfield Electric Company - Deerfield Electric compared to other better electricians

    Deerfield Electric Company

Exercise extreme caution before even asking for a bid! Check other review sites for this company…read morealso! I hired Deerfield Electric to replace a dining room light and install a car charger and 2 exterior lights in my garage. They said on the phone they would come out to replace the dining room light and take a look and see if they could install the exterior lights and car charger that same day or if they'd need to come back. The electrician from Deerfield Electric came out and hung the dining room light crooked. He advised "Some light fixtures just hang crooked. There is nothing you can do about it." It was not a little bit crooked - it was quite visibly crooked! But he was adamant that nothing could be done and we just have to accept it as is. He was wrong. Another electrician was able to easily get better results. Take a look at the picture below to see an example of Deerfield Electric's work compared to what a better electrician can offer and decide for yourself who you want to hire. But that was not even the worst part of working with them. He asked if I'd like to know how much it would be for him to come back another time and finish the other work (install the car charger and 2 exterior lights as he'd need a 2nd man). I thought he would look around for 15-20 minutes so he could put together a bid. He stayed for almost 2 hours "working" on a bid. Keep in mind my electrical panel is in a room directly adjacent to the garage where the charger and exterior lights would go. We're not talking about having to go across the entire house. Without telling me upfront I am being charged, he then charges over $300 for the "work" on his bids. The bids came out to over $7,800. I then found better local contractors who bid the job at $2,300, a savings of over $5,000! Think about it - Deerfield Electric charged $300 just to create a bid that was more than $5,000 higher on a $2,300 job without even telling me they were charging me to put the bid together! When I complained to the President that I was not told upfront I would be charged for the estimate, he offered a $125 discount off his bid that was $5,000 higher than others! Thanks but offering to overbid by $4,875 instead of $5,000 does not help. Based on my experience above I recommend not even asking Deerfield Electric to bid on work. You may end up getting charged hundreds just for asking to know what you would be charged without being told you are being charged as happened to me, all for a bid that is over 300% and thousands of dollars higher than others. Again check other review sites as well before calling Deerfield Electric!
