I am Hilton rewards member and stay in hilton all over the world. This must be the worst they got in everyway, especially customer service. Some are definitely good but most have no idea what they are doing. The soccer FS 1 channel at the room doesn't work and they give some excuses everyday. The one in the lobby is supposed to be working but no one could operate the tv or remote and couldn't do it. One guy figured out and got it . But next day it's all gone. Staying the entire week and they just ignore you when your tv is not working and desperately wanting to watch the game. Next time motel 6, must be better atleast they got people to fix the tv. First time they answer and next time they won't and hide in the back room. They won't follow up but when you try to follow up as you are missing the game they get an attitude and threaten you. This is absolutely the worst one and they don't care for sure. The GM is not able to control the quality of service it seems. So this a different Hilton and don't assume they are all same. Please avoid this place if you can and will be sorry when you have an issue to be solved, you are on your own. First time I give a bad review though this may be unfair for the good people working here as well. Apologies. read more

We stayed there this past weekend for two nights and booked two rooms, first impressions of front desk staff was not the best. We checked in at around 12:45am and the gentleman at the front seemed like he didn't like his job and walked away from the desk while we asked him a question. He came back and just stood there. He May need to think of another profession. The outside was beautiful with sitting space in the back with a nice fire pit but we didn't use it. We had family members booked there too because we were there for a funeral and there was a big roach under the cover in the room with one of our family members. The rooms are regular but I must say our view was beautiful. It overlooked the water with the boats. There is no free breakfast but you can pay an additional fee per day if you want to get breakfast while there. Overall, I will not stay there again but I will go to another Hilton affiliated hotel that is really close by. read more

Not a bad place, little walking areas out back and a pier. Looks nice from outside. Kind of a dirty little hotel for a Hilton. Went with a group we had 10 rooms and 6 of them had bugs in them. Cockroaches in 3. When they came to refresh my room they didnt make the bed or clean anything or refill shampoo conditioner. Pool was disgusting looking honestly, had a film. Gym is small but works for one or two people at a time. Overall not horrible, not a lot of options in the area. Workers were nice! Bar/restaurant is good but 3/4 workers were very loud about not wanting to work. read more

We had a room overlooking the lakefront property, which was nice.... the back of the hotel faces I think a cemetery, so thank God we our wasn't there. Rooms are slightly outdated but well-maintained. This was my second time booking my stay at this hotel and overall I had a wonderful stay during my trip. However, during my stay, my family and I encountered an issue with a staff member from the Crust & Cork restaurant located inside your hotel. We overheard the supervisor Brittany speaking to one of her employees regarding the tip in front of us and multiple customers at the bar. When my daughter asked Brittney if there was an issue with the tip Brittney stated "it's crazy that it was almost a $400 bill! " insinuating that we did not tip enough. Our check totaled $377 which included a $57 service charge. We added an additional $8 to round the tip off to $65. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. She lacked consideration and completely disregarded our feelings by doing this in front of staff and other customers. That fact that she wasn't out server made it worse because our server whose name is Ty was very grateful and had no issues with our tip. The bartenders Tiffanie,Jess and Leslie made our stay worthwhile. They were very accommodating and supportive after witnessing what had took place but based off this interaction with this one particular staff member I'm definitely having second thoughts of staying at this hotel again. read more

Recently booked a room for one night at this hotel. We are frequent guests as my family is from Va. I booked a room for a family reunion this weekend. Several other family members also booked rooms here. We checked in Friday afternoon by Marshall who is usually the manager when we stay. My room was booked for two under my name. My son arrived later that evening by surprise and so I invited him to stay in my room since the hotel was sold out for the night. I checked out the next morning after breakfast leaving my bags in my mothers room since she would be a returning guest that evening. When I left, the room was spotless. Upon returning to drop off my mom and pick up my bags stored in her room we sat in the lobby and bar with family and friends eating and drinking. Realizing it was getting late and I had a three hour ride home I decided to see if there was availability for a room that evening. When I went up to the front desk I noticed my son having a discussion with the front desk attendant. Apparently my son left a travel bag and charger in the room I checked out of earlier. Unaware it was in there he asked if he could retrieve the bag and he was told there was a charge of 250 placed on the room for late checkout. Overhearing this I asked first, why is she speaking with him About a room that was clearly booked in my name solely. My son was not with me at checkin and therefore she had no knowledge of who he was. She being the attendant/manager HEATHER GESSEP, which I had NEVER seen before . She couldn't answer why she released info about an account under my name which is a violation of privacy. The room hadn't been occupied since I left so clearly that bag would've belonged to me and my son could've been any random person. Second after trying to explain a ridiculous 250.00 Late checkout fee which was entirely bogus, no one occupied that room all day and a bag dosent prevent cleanup (ppl leave things behind all the time) my son was outraged and told her he thought that was a stupid charge. After I spoke with him to calm down as I would handle it since it technically was my room SHE asks him to leave the hotel because she felt threatened! THREATENED! ? How??? No name calling or punches thrown just an aggravated young person wanting his bag . But THREATENED is a term used for any person of color who gets upset! She then went on to say that my family posed a threat to her as well. My 70 year old mom, 7 year old daughter, my college aged daughter oh and maybe my MEXICAN husband. We were then asked to leave and even a threat to call the police was thrown out there! I'm an rewards member. I travel frequently. I'm an airline employee so I'm faced every day with aggression. Never have I accused a person of being a threat. I don't take that term lightly in todays world. Honestly I should've felt threatened by someone being so careless as to discuss my account with a person not listed on that account. ID should've been checked before ANY discussion over a bag or charge stemming from that room. I was humiliated and embarrassed after spending money at a hotel that obviously dosent train their managers on dealing with guest relations. I have contacted corporate and will keep posting about HEATHER GESSEP until this is resolved! It was unprofessional and completely unacceptable . It's people like her who pretend cry and invoke unnecessary damage in certain individuals lives!!! read more

The hotel on the outside is beautiful and the grounds are kept. Across the street is a cemetery. Behind the hotel is a boat dock with murky water. Not a great view on either side of the hotel. I changed rooms bc the room smelled really moldy. The smell in the second room was the same... just not as potent. I ran over to Walmart to buy air freshener. Found a curly hair in the tub.. gross. Hotel phone did not work. My last day there, my blow dryer went off on its own. Possibly paranormal activity? Idk. Staff was accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was standard continental buffet that you have to pay for. Not sure if I'd stay here again. read more

Stayed here for a turnaround trip and this hotel was convenient with places to eat and your usual pharmacy. Employees were great and professional, providing no issues for our stay. They allowed us to check in earlier since there were rooms available. The front desk was very knowledgeable and helpful with advising where the stores and eatery places were. The building is slightly on the older side but they are attempting to remodel the different areas. As for the rooms, it's your normal room with a king bed and decent view. I always check under the beds to see if there were any bed bugs or critters. I will say that their beds were some of the cleanest beds I've seen for a hotel in a while. As for the one star knock off....the rooms carried all of the noise and we heard the people walking back and forth until 9pm. Lastly their breakfast buffet was $12+ which was not worth it for what was being offered. I just grabbed my complimentary coffee and headed out. Overall a decent stay. read more

I attended a conference here a month or so ago and the execution and delivery of everything was pretty much on point. The only side eye about this event and the delivery... a conference for about 100 people, maybe more... the ladies restroom was a bit untidy throughout the day. The attention to the restroom should have been more timely than every now and again. The conference kicked off at 8am with registration and by noon time, the restroom (ladies) near the conference room area was a total mess. I did come across some ladies that looked to be in charge and I made them aware of the untidy restroom... The food preparation/presentation was on point. Nothing to fancy or spectacular about the meal, but it was yummy and filling. No issues at all with the food. Overall, I cannot comment on the rooms etc. But the conference room area was pretty decent. While the main room was split using a partition... on the other side I believe a church service was in progress. This was a bit much and it interrupted the conference I was attending (on the other side) at times, but for the most part it was OK. Parking wasn't an issue. The location of the hotel... it's near pretty much everything. Shopping, eateries etc. Have fun and enjoy life :) read more

I took a chance on the seafood selection here at Hilton garden inn and was not disappointed! I highly recommend ordering this entrée and the head chef here is very skilled and talented! WOW, I must have been sleeping under a rock for the majority of my life, because this meal has become a highlight. Great food, will definitely be back. read more

I keeping staying at this hotel as the rooms are nice and comfortable and the location is nice. My latest stay was as nice as previous stays because there was a noisy group on my floor, however, I will continue to come here in the future. Beds are cosy, bathroom size is just right with great shower water pressure. Parking is easy though you do have a bit of a walk to the entrance. Had a nice stay here over Labor Day weekend. As we drove down the road the hotel came into view and the kids jaw dropped "is THAT our hotel????" The hotel is huge and absolutely gorgeous. We felt like royalty when we pulled in! Upon arrival (3:45 p.m.) it was very busy inside w/ a wedding party doing their photo shoot and guests who had been waiting for their rooms. I gave my name and Hilton Honors info to the gal at the front desk and fortunately our rooms were available and ready for us. I'm not sure if that is because we are Silver Hilton Honors members and pre selected the rooms but whatever the reason the other guests who had been waiting were not happy to hear that our rooms were ready and they proceeded to rant about how long they had been waiting, screaming about understaffed housekeeping, threatening to contact corporate, etc... I felt really bad for the front desk staff but they handled it very professionally. Because of the wedding we were told all of the higher river view rooms had been booked so we opted for a room on the 1st floor facing the river. I was actually very impressed w/ the view and it was also convenient proximity to the pool area. Which is VERY small. The jacuzzi was non operational and from other reviews I had read up to our trip it's been that way for quite awhile. Hopefully they get that fixed soon. The bed in the room was quite comfortable and the room itself was very spacious. I prefer extra pillows and blankets but unfortunately with the hotel being fully booked we weren't able to get any. Disappointing but we managed. I would definitely stay here again. read more

The Hilton ballroom was the setting for this year's AFJROTC Military Ball. The Hilton staff was extremely professional and courteous from start to finish. They opened the ballroom up several days in advance so our cadets could rehearse. On the day of the event, Lily, the Catering Manager was on hand to help with any last minute items as we set up before guests arrived. The Southwest buffet was outstanding and fresh! This place is great! Nice, newer, sparkling clean, it checks all of our boxes. The walking trails are everywhere. The gym is spacious. And the wetlands, what a view. I only gave it a 2 star because of the beds. They are deplorable. Out of the two beds in our room both were severely worn out. I couldn't sleep at all and two of the three of us had some back discomfort in the morning. read more

Disclaimer- I have stayed here 3 different times with one of those trips being 2 months straight when I moved to the area! Pros- very affordable for a 3 star hotel. Rooms on the riverfront offer a great view. Breakfast is phenomenal. Bar staff and servers are great. Wine down Wednesday offers free food and drinks. Pool and hot tub are decently well kept. Gym is small but easily accessible if you need it. Cons- only one suite (not available to general public), limited parking on front and eastern side of hotel, outdated room decor, some damage to room fixtures, hallways, stairwells, etc. Front desk employees, especially at night, are not very welcoming nor engaged. You can hear the trains as they pass throughout the night which can keep some people awake. read more

A very classy hotel. The lobby is very inviting and cozy. There is a large fireplace and intimate seating arrangements for pleasant conversation. There is a small bar in the lobby. If you ever wanted to try a SLEEP NUMBERS BED they have a bed just like it so you can control the firmness and it's very comfortable. Even the covers feel great. They had an ergonomic chair at the desk in the room. We didn't like it at all. When you sit in it it tilts all the way back so feel like you're going to fall on the floor. They really need to get rid of it. Finally the only bad experience I had and this needs to be addressed by management. I wanted to see the swimming pool and when I got to the end of the hall I saw the pool and went to go inside except i walked right into a plate glass window. The glass was spotless and I didn't see it. I'm sure I'm not the first or going to be the last to walk into that window. It needs to have a security stripe going across it. They had to do that in New York City on the bus shelters because people were walking into them. I told the lady at the front desk to tell her manager lets see what happens. read more

I made my reservation a few weeks before my scheduled reservation. The day arrived when I flew in from California to Virginia. Needless to say, I was beyond exhausted. The only thing I'm looking forward to is checking in to my bedroom at this Hotel. I pull up to the hotel and notice the parking lot is practically empty so logically I'm thinking "great! Not that many people I'll run into since I'm trying to avoid Covid-19." I go to registration to check in and all of a sudden I'm being told they cancelled my reservation because they were "over booked" and yet, their parking lot was practically empty. Nothing at this place is indicative that they are over booked! The lady at the desk claims they cancelled this morning and I should've received a confirmation email... I go into my email and NOTHING! I leave for my car upset and as soon as I step into my car, BAM, they literally JUST CANCELLED my reservation at that exact moment! This leads me to believe the lady at the front desk is either 1. RACIST or 2. Prejudiced I don't know if she discriminated based on my ethnicity or judged me based on my tattoos! Unless you're Caucasian, avoid this place! read more

That, by the way is also the name of the street that this hotel is on and the reason it arrested my attention in the first place. Like Constance of long, long ago this place is elegant, beautiful, and has just the right level of Southern aloofness to make it drop dead gorgeous. Some things like Ms. Constance must be admired from a respectful distance. But here you don't have to deny yourself breakfast on the veranda. Here you can have your grits and eat them too while overlooking the river right when the sun begins to burn the fog off the water. read more

Where do I begin: we had a wedding party here and one room was ready at 10:30a (check in at 3p so time to set up - v happy about this") but one of the rooms had the clean seal but there was a ruffle chip and napkin under one bed and tape still on the wall from another person previously in the room. By the time we got back, one of the bags in the room we brought was missing. The guys came to check in at 3p (check in time) and their room was not ready till 4:45p. One of the elevators does not operate correctly; I let them know and they did not add signage to it or anything. Other guests had problems with this elevator as well. read more

It looks like a slave plantation big house, even so much more in person. Then the locals are driving around with confederate flags on their pick up trucks. Some of these rednecks .. really have rednecks, & walk around with no shirts on in the surrounding area. They dont do anything to you, but the way they look is so scary.Especially being from NYC and even though ive traveled europe and america extensively , ive never came across such an eerie appearing lynch mob looking unattractive bad dental situation caucasians that I would never turn my back on. This is the only place ive been where the people look so ugly and scary you just wanna let them walk in front of you, because you wouldnt turn your back. Yea the place itself is a southern charm classic. They actually have live music in the summer on the waterfront by local sponsors and a good mixed crowd comes out. Seniors and thier grandkids.. But honestly there is alot the entire make up of the establishment that looks like the Django film could have been shot there. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. First, know that the Garden Select Comfort bed is non-existent. This is clearly false/fraudulent advertising. I opted to pay more for this hotel experience solely for the Garden Select Comfort bed as I have a back injury and would be in the area for that week for my daughter's wedding. This bed would be similar to the Comfort Select bed I have in my home, and I anticipated a restful, pain-free "vacation" experience. Instead, I had to endure a painful, non-refundable stay with a hard bed. My back was set into unnecessary pain and discomfort for the week, and my complaints were pretty much ignored. I never received extra comforters I requested to help pad the bed. I did get 3 extra pillows on the fourth night of my sux night stay, but only when I asked and waited at the front desk for them. So, I slept on top of 9 pillows total, 3 from the front desk, 3 on my bed, and 3 from the 2nd bed in my room. I also used my own 3 pillows and body pillow that I brought along. Needless to say, this make-shift "mattress topper" needed to be frequently adjusted. And let's just touch upon the sub-par cleaning of the room. When using a duvet "insert" ( that was not in the duvet), I discovered blood stains. Small, but still gross. Dust and grime throughout. Bathroom mold. The easy chair was also gross - dirty and stained, lacking the ottoman, and an insult to the Hilton name. I didn't get the chance to even try to enjoy any other amenities such as the restaurant, bar, and back porch area overlooking the park and the Nansemond River as I was in too much pain every day. Don't bother reaching out to corporate for any assistance. They just redirected me back to the arrogant and difficult manager at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverside. While he did refund me one night out of six, he also lied and told corporate that they assisted me with comforters and other help, which they did not. Definitely not worth the aggravation. Definitely not worth the cost. Just stay away. read more

I think one star is still too generous, but I had to give at least one. Let's start off with the fact that we requested 4 rooms with double beds, but were only given 4 rooms with king beds. Here's the issue with this. We are a touring company with women and men, and there are 8 of us. So now we are forced to sleep together? Thanks Hilton. But it doesn't end there, they only had 2 extra rollaway beds. So when we requested extra blankets, they didn't have any. So then they brought us extra sheets and pillows... Which were wet still. How do you think it's ok to bring someone wet sheets and pillows? Get a brain. Our air conditioner would not get any cooler than 69. This was so annoying at night because I'm having to sleep next to my co-worker who is a male and gets hot. There were all sorts of events being held there that weekend, which is why I'm sure they didn't give a damn about our needs. There were high school children running around all over the place. We couldn't even use the gym because they were all playing around in there and the gym was only suppose to be used by people 18+. There is also no complimentary breakfast. And the last day as I'm leaving, I call down for a bellhop cart. Guess what?!?! They didn't have any of those either! But of course as I was leaving I see 3 right in front. Lazy. The rooms aren't even that nice! They are out dated as in circa 1992. The rooms look like a days inn, not Hilton Garden Inn. Honestly, I can't expect the employees to care if the management doesn't. And we spoke to the manager at the beginning and she didn't seem to care to help, or try to make our stay better for the inconveniences that we were having to suffer with. We traveled from Florida for a graduation in Murfreesboro and chose this location. the bed was comfy, the staff was awesome. ( loved Leslie in the bar area) can't wait to go again. I had the pleasure of attending a Mardi Gras party at one of the HGI ballrooms Friday evening. The event was put on by a fraternity raise money for the community. So when it's for a good cause, I'm always for it. It was a beautiful ballroom that had it's own entrance from the outside. I would guess 400 of us were partying in about 6,000 square feet of space. The hotel provided us with some bar-like food. It was good, probably because I was throwing down on wine, but nothing too spectacular. Staff was friendly and attentive to making sure our tables were free of dirty plates. For an area of Suffolk that doesn't have too much to offer by way of venues for events, this place is a good one to consider. read more
