    Grungy, old, outdated smoke detectors.

Pretty location and pretty hotel. Rooms are clean and I live the view of the river. 3 stars because the beds are hard as a rock and the pillows are no better. The rooms are in desperate need of updating. Everything looks a little old, a little dated, and a lot of sad. The front desk staff is friendly and the rooms are very clean. You can't even tell they allow pets. Hence the 3-stars in spite of it showing some age.

Cemetery across the street. Zoom in to see better.

The hotel on the outside is beautiful and the grounds are kept. Across the street is a cemetery. Behind the hotel is a boat dock with murky water. Not a great view on either side of the hotel. I changed rooms bc the room smelled really moldy. The smell in the second room was the same... just not as potent. I ran over to Walmart to buy air freshener. Found a curly hair in the tub.. gross. Hotel phone did not work. My last day there, my blow dryer went off on its own. Possibly paranormal activity? Idk. Staff was accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was standard continental buffet that you have to pay for. Not sure if I'd stay here again.

    Here for the TCLSS Conference

I attended a conference here a month or so ago and the execution and delivery of everything was pretty much on point. The only side eye about this event and the delivery... a conference for about 100 people, maybe more... the ladies restroom was a bit untidy throughout the day. The attention to the restroom should have been more timely than every now and again. The conference kicked off at 8am with registration and by noon time, the restroom (ladies) near the conference room area was a total mess. I did come across some ladies that looked to be in charge and I made them aware of the untidy restroom... The food preparation/presentation was on point. Nothing to fancy or spectacular about the meal, but it was yummy and filling. No issues at all with the food. Overall, I cannot comment on the rooms etc. But the conference room area was pretty decent. While the main room was split using a partition... on the other side I believe a church service was in progress. This was a bit much and it interrupted the conference I was attending (on the other side) at times, but for the most part it was OK. Parking wasn't an issue. The location of the hotel... it's near pretty much everything. Shopping, eateries etc. Have fun and enjoy life :)

Beautiful hotel with nice lobby and elegant dining area with a view of the river. Staff was courteous.

I took a chance on the seafood selection here at Hilton garden inn and was not disappointed! I highly recommend ordering this entrée and the head chef here is very skilled and talented! WOW, I must have been sleeping under a rock for the majority of my life, because this meal has become a highlight. Great food, will definitely be back.

Room on 1st floor facing river. I want to say it was room 114

Had a nice stay here over Labor Day weekend. As we drove down the road the hotel came into view and the kids jaw dropped "is THAT our hotel????" The hotel is huge and absolutely gorgeous. We felt like royalty when we pulled in! Upon arrival (3:45 p.m.) it was very busy inside w/ a wedding party doing their photo shoot and guests who had been waiting for their rooms. I gave my name and Hilton Honors info to the gal at the front desk and fortunately our rooms were available and ready for us. I'm not sure if that is because we are Silver Hilton Honors members and pre selected the rooms but whatever the reason the other guests who had been waiting were not happy to hear that our rooms were ready and they proceeded to rant about how long they had been waiting, screaming about understaffed housekeeping, threatening to contact corporate, etc... I felt really bad for the front desk staff but they handled it very professionally. Because of the wedding we were told all of the higher river view rooms had been booked so we opted for a room on the 1st floor facing the river. I was actually very impressed w/ the view and it was also convenient proximity to the pool area. Which is VERY small. The jacuzzi was non operational and from other reviews I had read up to our trip it's been that way for quite awhile. Hopefully they get that fixed soon. The bed in the room was quite comfortable and the room itself was very spacious. I prefer extra pillows and blankets but unfortunately with the hotel being fully booked we weren't able to get any. Disappointing but we managed. I would definitely stay here again.

Unmade bed when covered were pulled back

Room was not clean. View is pretty nice once you look past the spider webs outside the window that looks like they haven't cleaned it in a year! Bed also didn't have clean sheets. Looked like the cover was just pulled over the top. Called to have cleaned sheets brought up and it took more than two hours.

Nice hotel. Very few choices in coastal Virginia while visiting Franklin , Virginia. Access to some decent restaurants.

So when we checked-in, we were given two rooms close by each other, but not connected. Luckily we could make this work even though it wasn't ideal for our family. The staff at this location were apologetic and professional, but they were limited in what they could do. It's really more of an issue at the corporate level and the way that reservations are made. I still give our stay 4 stars because of the professionalism of the staff on-site. I would just encourage anyone needing a connecting rooms to call ahead and assure the actual rooms have been assigned before you arrive. The rooms were clean, although probably could use a refresh aesthetically speaking. The location was convenient and safe. The on-site restaurant serves a nice breakfast and our server was super friendly. We would return, but likely not try booking connecting rooms again.

After completing the work and delivering the materials requested they completely ignored all requests for payment. They were most likely unhappy with the testing results of their hotel for meeting Hilton standards, but we are just hired to perform the testing, not to fabricate the results. When we inquired about "how" some of the things were done we discovered a pattern of just hiring unqualified (and I suspect undocumented) persons to perform the work. (We also worked on two of their other properties in the same time frame.) Honestly, they just assume that since we're a veteran-owned small business and they own a dozen hotel chains that we're too small to cause them any problems. They just refuse to pay their bills and figure we'll go away. Well, after 7 months of them not paying the bills due in October of 2025, we figured we'll just start sharing the experience with others as a warning. This is not a good company to do business with and Hilton should know they intentionally cut corners as a way to try to bypass the Brand requirements Hilton has for all properties. As a small-business owner for 25 years, this is the first customer in our history to cheat us on the bill by just passively ignoring us and hoping we'll go away. Well, we're not. This is NOT the kind of way people should be treated.

The staff was quite nice, friendly, and helpful - particularly the front desk (I did not have housekeeping service the room as I was only there for 3 days). The hotel itself was decent - it gives the vibes of an older building that has maybe been remodeled. There are definitely telltale signs of that throughout, but the property seems well-maintained overall. Immediate downside: the walls are quite thin, so you can basically hear your neighbors having a conversation in the room next to you - especially if the rooms have that throwback 90s adjoining door. Another thing is this hotel has the widow heat/air units, which are (in my opinion) notoriously difficult to get the right temperature on, which I find to be particularly annoying. Positive: the breakfast is actually quite decent - the little cheesy egg quiches they have are quite good! I'm not sure I would stay here again by choice though just because of how thin the walls are (my neighbors were apparently recording/producing music in their room, which was exceptionally irritating). I was also put into an accessible room, which isn't a complaint per-se, but I think that room should have been saved for someone who may have needed it.
