I stayed at this hotel recently for a weekend-long event, and I enjoyed my time here. Our accommodations for the convention worked out well, and we even have room to grow. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food for the meals we got for our event were very good, delivered on time, and the staff were very professional. The layout is a bit nonstandard in that the floors below the third are labeled (in descending order) as L (Lobby), BL (Ballroom level, which is where you enter), and ML (I don't remember what that stood for, we never went on that floor). Check-in was a breeze, and coffee is provided in the morning in the lobby. Meeting/function space is available on all the "L" levels. The hotel has a dining area. Breakfast is available a la carte or as a buffet for $12.50, which was a very reasonable price for what was provided. My room, a suite, had a view of Troy to the west and south. The shades made the room VERY dark at night (a plus), but since the hotel is along Route 7, you could hear traffic, particularly motorcycles and sirens, at night (a minus). The hotel is "slightly" older (I heard it's 15 years old), and it reflects that in some ways, including a traditional shower, and key-into-slot access instead of proximity/tap keys. One quirk about my room is that the bathroom door swung out and actually overlapped with the space for the door into the room, meaning if the bathroom door was open, you couldn't open the other door easily - rather poor planning on whoever designed this. There were a couple of very small glitches with my room, but they were easily and quickly fixed by the staff. This hotel is a good choice for a stay in Troy. It's not adjacent to either downtown or RPI, but it's reasonably close. read more

Good enough location for our visit to relatives. Paid more for a 1br suite and while spacious there were numerous issues---touted having a TV in each room....only one worked and having brought this to the attention of the front desk....never resolved over the 3 nights we stayed there. We learned that one should request a room on the quiet side of the building or get a room on the 6th or 7th floor because of noise from the very busy street---the 1br were only avail on the street side and having a room on the higher floor didn't really help...pretty noisy. Being on the 6th floor....water temp and pressure were issues. Lastly, as a diamond member you are supposed to get a $10 credit for yourself and one other registered guest in your room --in my case, my wife. Just reviewed our bill and noticed we only got one credit each day even with receipts that clearly indicated 2 people....and yes, rechecked to make sure my wife's name was on the reservation and it was. So....couple things they need to work on. read more

I had to stay here for work, but it was really a hotel that is in need of updates and a deep cleaning. My room's carpets had visible stains that smelled like urine (no I didn't stick my nose in it, but it was that strong). The air conditioning smelled musty. And the icing on the cake... the hotel's hot water was not working when I went to take a shower. read more

Easy check in, also available for contactless. Room was on 3rd floor, clean enough, not exceptionally impressive but worth what I paid for. It was convenient for a Rensellaer event that I needed to attend. Close to fast food areas like McDonalds and Popeye's chicken. Had a walk around the neighborhood including nearby Fraear Golf course. Our room was a good size and had everything we needed. I only wish they labeled where all the ballrooms were. We only saw one label for a ballroom on the elevator. It wasn't the one we sought. Both of us had challenges sleeping because of the dry air in our hotel room. Otherwise, it was fine. Free parking too. read more

Yolanda - overnight lobby attendant, was great! Personalabe, friendly, and welcoming even at our after midnight check in. Room was clean and we had no issues. Water pressure for shower could be better. Our room was on the street side and we heard big trucks going by. Blackout shades . The fridge / freezer froze our freezer-blocks and kept our other goods cold. Didn't use the microwave or coffee machine - I just got coffee in the lobby. Breakfast buffet was good - eggs, meat, potatoes, pastries, juice, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, bagels. There was no signage as to how this operated, as this was an extra purchase. We were told the one waitress would take out order for Omelettes and pancakes, but she only showed up offering to refill my (lobby) coffee. Didn't get a chance to explore much Of the hotel, as we checked in after midnight and go an early start. Hotel and grounds were clean. If passing through this again, would look into staying again. read more

I am Hilton Honors Diamond for almost 10 years now and I've never had such terrible service from any Hilton property front desk as I did at the Hilton Garden Inn Troy. My family and I were in town for my nephew's wedding and I booked 3 rooms for 2 nights using 240,000 Hilton points. We were just going to make a run to the grocery store to get breakfast supplies for our 2 mornings, but upon check in, Dale told us that we could get $10/day/room/guest of food vouchers to apply to the breakfast buffet, which was $12.50. When traveling for business, I ALWAYS take the points, but this was a no brainer to take the food voucher as it was way more convenient to eat at the hotel. For 2 mornings, all 6 of us enjoyed the breakfast. We weren't blown away, but it was better than a Hampton. Upon checkout, I was informed that we only got $10/day/room for my wife and me in our room as the other two rooms were under my name, therefore, it was "corporate policy" that they couldn't give us what Dale promised upon check in. When we protested, the front desk clerk and our breakfast waitress were rude and dismissive. They said "Dale always does this". WHAT!?!? This has happened before and Dale hasn't been retrained? And this is OK for Hilton?? To avoid my frustration level boiling over, I walked away as I wanted to get on the road back to Cleveland. My wife stayed to protest and those two at the front desk said to her "Oh, your husband is diamond, he should have known the policy." As stated, I never take the food credit, and my business travel is ALWAYS solo, so no, I there's no way I would know the policy. Plus, A HILTON EMPLOYEE TOLD ME how things would work and he was wrong! Hotel was fine, the bar downstairs was enjoyable, but this is by far the worst front desk experience of my life and I really can't believe that Hilton accepts this level of disservice! It might finally be time to see if Marriott will offer a status match... read more

I only spent one night to recover from watching a ballgame with my friends. They had a great in-house sports bar/restaurant as well as breakfast/brunch restaurant that were reasonably priced. The room was immaculate and the hotel offered free coffee and tea every morning. The hotel was refreshed only a year ago (2022). Also, I was very impressed with their gym and swimming pool. Stayed overnight recently passing through Troy. While it is a little difficult to turn into the parking lot the lot is large with a nice portico for unloading. The lobby is on the second floor so it was a little awkward to carry luggage in, check in and then proceed to room. The elevator was essential. The check in was friendly but we were not able to check in an hour early. The hotel was full. Complimentary water for Honors members was frozen. The lobby offered comp infused water and cookies that were delicious. The room was clean and modern. The beds were comfortable and quiet. There was a fridge in the room and bar in the room with a little coffee maker. Complimentary coffee was also available on the morning. There is a large common area with tables off the lobby which was comfortable for a morning meeting. The WiFi worked great. Breakfast was a little expensive $15 so we ate out. There are some good restaurants not too far away. read more

A very good hotel for a decent price. Location is great, with plenty of places to eat within walking distance and a Dunkin' Donuts right across the street. Room was comfortable, very clean, and reasonably quiet. The parking lot is awkward to get into, and for some reason the lobby is not on the floor you enter, so you have to take an elevator and figure out which button to push: BL, ML, or L... Others have mentioned complementary cookies, but nothing like that was offered, so don't count on it. Absolutely would stay here again if I were ever in the area. read more

A perfect place to stay if you are traveling through the Albany area. It's a short drive from downtown Troy and a short drive or walk to RPI. The gift shop has RPI memorabilia which was really thoughtful. Though the rooms are showing signs of some wear and tear, I am sure they will renovate in the near future. The beds were comfortable and the rooms are spacious. There is plenty of free parking and a busy restaurant attached that is open late on the weekends. The best part is the customer service. It was a breathe of fresh air to receive such friendly service during a recent stay. We loved the horse heads on the posts in front of the door. Hence the picture! read more

They went out of their way with everyone. Megan was annoyed with any questions and ate behind the desk and talked with her mother full on the phone and with guests. It was CRAZY. LOL. We check in on the Monday 8/23 in the early evening and was happy to see it has a laundry room for guest, the restaurant on site on site makes it easy after a long drive. I thought I reviewed this, but Yelp tells me "no" so here goes. Came to Troy for a wedding and was pleased to find a nearby Hilton property. Gotta get my points! Upon entering, you need to go up a level to check in. That was fast and friendly. My room was standard..nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. And there was an iron and board so I could press my rumpled suit which had come upstate with me in a duffel bag. A very nice feature they offered was a shuttle which took us to the wedding downtown and also picked our drunk asses up and brought us back after the reception! About 10 of us were staying at this hotel and we appreciated it very much. There was an on-site bar that was kind of cool, although the locals who were there looked at my friends and I as if we were some aliens landing in their hometown. Which I guess we kind of were since most of us were from either NYC or Boston and we were wearing suits (yes, it was all dudes). Breakfast in the morning featured lots of options. The eggs and toast I had were great and the coffee was just what I needed. This is a nice place and I'd stay here if I were ever forced to go to Troy again. read more

I stayed at this hotel for business, and it started with a bit of confusion... When I walked in from the main entrance, I didn't see anything other than large waterfall decoration to the front, restaurant to the left, staircase to next to the restaurant, and elevator to the right. After walking around the small area for a minute, I saw a small sign on the elevator that says "hotel lobby one level up." I would have appreciated a larger, more noticeable sign... I went up one floor, and when I got out of the elevator, I was welcomed by cookies and refreshments right there. They had the check in counter and large lounge area to the left. The staff who checked me in was really nice, polite and friendly. No issue there. My room was nice and big, with one king size bed. It had mini fridge, coffee machine, desk, TV...all the essentials. In the bathroom was a nice tub and standing shower. So, why just two stars? Well, first, as I was trying to check the weather on the news, the TV had no sound. I tried to get the volume up, but not matter what, there was no sound...and I could not move the TV console so I couldn't figure out if the sound part was hooked up or not. The room was cold so I turned on the heater. The fan was really noisy. It was so distracting that I couldn't sleep. Eventually, I had to get out the bed and turn it off. It was either try to sleep with the loud fan noise, or sleep in a cold room... Then the alarm clock. It had a battery icon blinking, assuming the battery was really low. I couldn't move the nightstand (I felt like it was bolted down or something), so I couldn't get to the power cord... I have never stayed at a hotel that did not have a well functioning alarm clock. But, the most horrible part was that the cleaning staff forgot to empty the trash from the previous customer from the bathroom. It was so disgusting... If it was just an empty shampoo bottles or soap box, I will be able to live with it, but it was so much more than that. Not to be too detailed, but I could tell the previous customer who stayed there was a woman, and she was on the time of the month. So after all these issues, I feel like I am being generous with 2 stars, but since the staffs were nice, I am giving them 2 instead of 1 star. I recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Troy during a recent trip to RPI. Pros: - It is within walking distance of the RPI campus. This is probably the closet hotel to the campus so it is perfect for anyone intending on visiting the campus. I think it was a 15 minute or less walk to the main campus. - The staff is so unbelievably helpful. I was able to check into my room with ease and reserve a shuttle to the airport very easily. Since I called ahead I was able to check into my room prior to the official 3 pm check-in due to my event requiring me to get to the location a little earlier. - They have multiple conference rooms located inside the hotel. It is a perfect location for larger to smaller events. - You can charge my food at the Recovery Room to your room. Cons: - The main desk is located a floor above the main floor. For someone that has not stayed at the hotel before it was a little confusing. Unfortunately there isn't a person on the first floor to direct you but they do have signage directing you to the area you need to visit. - The food in the dining area is absolutely terrible. I took advantage of the breakfast buffet and on both days I was trying my hardest to find anything that wasn't bland and hot. Even the omelet station is mediocre at best. Had a very good conference experience at this hotel. Troy is a former industrial town (formerly a leading manufacturer of shirt collars, apparently) and is gradually and sensibly redeveloping. The last time I was in the area, I stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Albany-Downtown nearby and was attacked by bedbugs (see my review for more details). I'm glad I had a good and less terrifying experience in town this time. There is ample free parking behind the hotel. From there, you enter from the lower level and go upstairs to reception. The staff were all friendly and very accommodating. There's a sports bar next door to the hotel at the lower level. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable (it's adjustable from soft to firm - test it out!). The shower was good. The only problem with the room is that you can hear all the heavy doors slamming shut echoing from the hallway. My neighbors were in and out and banging for a while. Other than that, no complaints. The conference rooms are huge and spacious. It was absolutely freezing, though! It's accessible for people with disabilities. The wifi is very spotty in these rooms. The bathrooms are gendered. The food was surprisingly tasty and it wasn't the typical conference fare where you have so many snacks and carbs that you return home five pounds heavier. I didn't have a chance to check out the gym or pool. There aren't many places to eat within easy walking distance, but if you're willing to venture further, there are a few spots. I took the shuttle to the train station, and the driver was eager to chat about life, politics, and the importance of Jesus in his life. Fortunately for him, I write about politics and am receptive to hearing from all sorts of people. But this could be extremely awkward for many people. Rooms are NOT CLEAN. Hair was all over the bathroom and towels. Floor is absolutely filthy and the sheets had stains on them. Told the front desk about the cleanliness issue and they cleaned the shower, but the floor was still filthy, the mirror has toothpaste dried on it, and the towels were STILL covered in hair. Bad area as well, definitely wouldn't go wondering around. read more

Jonathon the clerk at the front desk gives 5 star service. I was intoxicated and being a little belligerent last night when I checked In and he remained professional and treated me with dignity the entire time. I locked myself out of my room and left my credit card in the room and he let me back in to get it and I locked it in the room a second time. The cleaning staff is amazing too. They are always helpful. I've left things in the rooms on many occasions and never had a problem recovering anything I've left. Me and my family use this hotel frequently when we have power outages in our neighborhood and our daughter is disabled and they are always helpful. The rooms have always been clean. I'd recommend this hotel. read more

A fairly new addition to lodging in Troy, and by far the best. Located near RPI, it has a huge sports bar heavy with RPI memorabilia, multiple meeting and event rooms in what seemed to be a hotel bristling with activity all day and late into each night. Rooms are standard HGI, but what makes this property shine is the staff. There was an issue with my needing to change rooms because of an error on their part after the first night. They went above and beyond. Lisa and Henry were the smiling faces I dealt with and they made it 110% right. It was basically a situation where they could have approached the solution in a variety of ways. Instead of just taking one of the many very acceptable solutions that you might expect of them being a frequent traveler, I got all of them. They left absolutely no question in my mind that they were working for my business and satisfaction. I applaud the staff for their thoroughness, well done! read more

Stayed for one night although planned for two. Hotel was clean like most Hilton Garden Properties I'd stayed at and location was great for my needs. I booked a single KING bed but it was smaller then any king I've slept in before. The phone system was my biggest complaint because When I called the front desk no one responded and I had to go down to the lobby because they didn't answer when I called MULTIPLE times! I was not pleased and checked out the next day! They apologized but I wouldn't stay there again unless I had no other options! read more

I attended the Women's Employment Resource Center awards luncheon here. The food was excellent. The lemon chicken was moist and the dessert was luscious. The wait staff did a great job serving over 300 people in a timely manner. Every one received food that was hot and fresh. read more

We've probably stayed here 30 nights in the last year. It is our regular hotel when we come to Troy. It is a nice Hilton Garden Inn. The hotel itself is in good shape and the rooms have all been very nice. We've been very satisfied with the management and staff of the hotel. It is not inexpensive, and staying in Hilton properties by the Albany airport will save you some money. Breakfast is a solid buffet offering but candidly we would welcome some changes to it as it has grown old given how often we are here. The Recovery Sports Grill in the hotel offers lunch and dinner options which are adequate and for Troy, are actually above average. Parking can on occasion be a challenge when they are hosting a meeting. They have a smoking oasis in the parking lot for those individuals who smoke, but sadly too many guests and employees are lighting up or vaping just outside their main door which is disappointing and I encourage management to crack down on this. read more

This hotel is brand new and is fantastic. The presidential suite is large and very spacious. Has a sofa-bed, dining table, refrigerator, and microwave. The bathroom is to the left as you enter and the bedroom is through the living room and past the dining room. They use neutrogena products. They have an indoor pool and a small fitness facility on the BL floor and a business center on the Lobby. There is plenty of parking. The entrance is a little difficult to find. The entrance is towards the back and the lobby is on the floor above the parking entrance on the L level. The recovery sports bar and grill is very popular, i am unsure as to whether it is because its new or because it is really good. It is a nice place to relax and enjoy sports. The bar is equipped with audio where you can listen to the audio of a specific tv. They have a pool table and some other games. Hilton Garden Inn is conveniently located across the street from popeye's and up the road from a pizza joint. This would have been a 4 star if it wasnt for the fire alarms going off at 11:45 PM and 8:45AM. And at 8:00AM on another day. I have to say both Kelly's working the lounge for breakfast are excellent. The breakfast is made-to-order also. read more

Why 5 Stars? We travel to Troy every year for the holiday season. Before Hilton Garden Inn opened, our options were bleak. This is the best place to stay in this area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and big enough for the two of us. Last Christmas, we both caught colds so we spent several days quarantined in our room. The room was large enough that we didn't drive each other nuts In addition to the front desk, the manager, Dan, was extremely helpful. read more

Hilton Garden Inn coming through in the clutch. My boyfriend and I were suppossed to stay with some friends we were visiting, but when the plan backfired, we headed to the HGI. It was RPI's graduation weekend (aka hella crowded) but we were still able to get a King for that night/Saturday and Sunday. YES. The bed was superrrrr comfy (adjust your own firmness anyone?) and everything was beautifully clean. Maid's were great and friendly, even cleaning up after 3pm when we decided to sleep in (and by "in" I mean half the day.) The front desk was incredibly helpful, shutteling us downtown when we wanted to get a couple drinks, and calling us a cab to Albany. All in all, one of the nicest/cleanest hotels to stay in. -1 star for no "free" continental breakfast...$7 for some oatmeal is a little bit of a rip. read more

Thank god for a hotel gym that you can actually work out in! (as much as possible) In upstate for business and last week I stayed at a terrible hotel in Albany...that's probably swaying my voting a little. The rooms in this hilton are new(ish) and decently comfortable. The staff was super friendly when I arrived and I have no complaints about the location. I street traffic is pretty loud in the rooms so I'd recommend getting a room that faced the parking lot side of the building. read more

Recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York. I have frequently stayed at Hampton Inn which is another Hilton brand and figured this would be similar. There was little similar about this place. At Hampton Inn you get a free breakfast and a fair price. No free breakfast and the room was outrageous at about $260. Very poor value for money. I have been a Hilton Honors member for some time and found this hotel to be over rated, over priced and generally speaking a poor choice for a good night's sleep. read more

I am a fan of HIlton Garden Inns and just made a reservation for 2014, for the bicentennial celebration at Emma Willard-which is hoping to have l8l4 people in attendance! I was given a higher rate than my friend who reserved a few weeks ago, but I know that they do seem to raise their rates depending on when you reserve. I did talk to Barbara about correcting the fact that I had not specified a "Senior rate' and she could not have been nicer! You can cancel up to the day of the reservation and I am hoping I will not have to do that. But wanted to put in a heads up for those who may be making a reservation-even in Troy for 2013-graduations etc. read more

What was great: My boyfriend and I called to have the "shuttle" pick us up at the train station and were escorted in a sleek Escalade. Not only that, but the driver took us through the small Troy downtown and pointed out noteworthy restaurants and even an outdoor concert happening that night. Also, service at the hotel in general was friendly and efficient upon check-in and -out. Only downside: the boyfriend went down for breakfast 10 minutes before it was scheduled to close and found most of the food removed (after they accepted his payment). But the manager kindly took it off our bill with no hassle. read more

When entering the hotel you must go up a level to find the lobby. Not a big issue as the have both stairs and elevator. Lobby is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. The pool is very small as the sign says only 10 people in the pool at a time. Towels provided poolside were like sandpaper but kids really didn't mind. I believe you are being watched by cameras at all times. A gentleman came into the pool area from a back door holding a glass. It was a minute and the manager was there to leave the pool with the glass container. Rooms are nice and spacious. Sports bar restaurant in the hotel was very good and inexpensive. Great place to stay, but rooms can be costly if events are in the area. read more

We stayed in room 601 from 10/21/13 to 10/24/13. It was a lovely suite - spacious and clean and even had a fireplace! The bed was very comfortable and adjustable. Emily at the front desk was very helpful and courteous. The hotel has free parking and is conveniently located. It has a washer and dryer (we were on a long trip so this was great) as well as a fitness room. Very nice. read more

Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and staff. Unfortunately there was a fire alarm at 6:30am on Sunday which caused everyone to get up and walk down the stairs into the snow filled parking lot. But after that everything went very smoothly. I hate that I have to write this review. and I have no idea how many stars to give it. The place seemed nice, and the management helpful. I liked the coffee/tea station open all day by the front desk. but here's the issue... I stepped in glass in my hotel room. My Nana always told me to keep my shoes on in a hotel room. I wish I had listened to her. The place looked clean and I was just walking to the bathroom for a shower, when I stepped on a sliver of glass and it lodged into my foot. Management came up to make sure the wound was cleaned out, and I asked them to send housekeeping up to vacuum. But seriously, this NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. They were quick to blame me and ask what I had broken, but I of course had nothing to report. It had to be from a previous guest, and housekeeping didn't clean up well enough. I've lodged a complaint with Guest Assistance, I really didn't feel this should be overlooked. Prior to all that, I had arrived at the airport looking for my shuttle that I had requested from the Hilton, then found I had a voicemail saying they hadn't come, and to call to have them drive over. I had no desire to hang out waiting at the airport for who knows how long, so I called another ride. I'm torn because I've heard great reviews, but how can I ever look back on this experience in a positive light? Guests beware. read more
