We were visiting Hilton Head for the first time and a Google search of things to do in the area suggested checking out a tour at the distillery. We were greeted by the distillery cat, Hogo, so cute! Once inside the vibe is reminiscent of an upscale beach bar and the staff was warm and friendly. The tour was interesting and we enjoyed learning about the history and process of distilling rum. After the tour we had a drink at the bar. IF YOU ONLY ONE DRINK, TRY THE KEY LIME PIE. It's off the beaten path but I definitely recommend checking it out!

This place is a must if on the island! The staff was all super friendly & knowledgeable. The drinks... absolutely delicious and some of the best I have had this year!! I am still dreaming of their clausmopolitan (holiday drink.) I told my husband that this would not be our last visit and I cannot wait until we go again soon! The drinks are also very reasonably priced! All the tastings we tried of the rum were incredibly smooth as well!

Drinks -- crushable. Ambiance -- laid back. Service -- super friendly staff and a distillery cat. Win-win. We went here twice during our week long vacation and left with six bottles (well, we shipped them home). Seriously so good and we'll definitely go back. Pro tip: Get the banana foster rum

Let's start with the positives here, their spirits are made with love and care. They are not mass produced, and are very tasty. I especially enjoyed the Atlantic bourbon, and the ghost pirate gold rum. Also found the bananas, foster rum to be unique and flavor and very smooth. I personally did not care for the toast and a coconut rum, nor did my wife. Speaking of my wife, she enjoyed her flight, especially the island, rum cream. Now I realize I'm not everybody's going to like every flavor, so to this point, I would give Hilton head distillery a five star rating. What was a little bit surprising, is that they have no kitchen with any food, food or charcuterie board type of accompaniment to the samplings. This also means, that there were no mixed drink options, so we had to basically do our sampling and head out. The establishment itself is quite nice in that you can pick up a backgammon game and spend some time just chatting and playing while sampling. The spirits made in house. Overall, a good experience, I give it a four star, would probably give it a 4 1/2 star if that was an option.

Fun distillery on the island. Various flavors of rum... a bourbon, and a malted whiskey as well. Fun to try these distillations. Amy was fun to talk with. Parking on site. Island fun in a bottle.

Awesome place to check out. We did the tour and tasting and our tour guide Doug did a wonderful job, very knowledgeable. Their rum and all samples were very smooth. This distillery is worth the stop

What a fun and informative tour! And not to mention the yummy tastings. You get greeted with a welcome cocktail, which I must say was quite strong lol, but very good. Then you walk with the guide to the back building to do the tour and learn abt the process and then do a tasting of multiple drinks. It was a great experience, highly recommend.

    Tasting set up

I went on Wednesday July 23. And it was awesome. I decided to do this on a whim, so I didn't make any type of reservation. I went in around 1 and asked the lady at the desk if they had any availablility for me to join a tour. She told me yes, they had 1 more spot on their 1:30 tour if I didn't mind waiting around for about 30 minutes. I said perfect and used that time to browse their mechandise and rum bottles. The tour was $35 and included 6 rum tastings, and a discount at the end on merchandise. The tour is roughly an hour long. They are mainly a rum distillery, but they do small batch vodka, gin and whiskey. Emily was my tour guide, and she was amazing. You can tell she is very passionate about rum and her job. I love how animated she was, and they she made the tour interesting. She is also the one who guided us through the tasting. An overall great experience, I would highly recommend everyone doing the tour at least once.

Wonderful tour! Our guide Doug was awesome, we learned a lot and got to taste some great rum and gin and bourbon. And we got to bring home several excellent bottles of rum. Thank you!

Stopped by Hilton Head Distillery on a recent trip to Hilton Head. We were hoping to try some spirits and cocktails and hang out for a bit. They were featuring their Winter Cocktail menu, which included a New Fashioned (akin to an Old fashioned but with the addition of amaretto, if you're unfamiliar). It was great! We hung out a bit but the atmosphere lends itself to be more of a taste and go than a spot to linger over delicious cocktails (bright overhead lights etc). We didn't participate but they do have distillery tours. They also, of course, have plenty of bottles for sale. Their specialty seems to be rum but they did have other spirit options as well. Overall, a nice spot to stop but wouldn't necessarily plan to spend a lot of time here.

Stopped in after we visited the brewery. For anyone who loves rum this would be a super fun stop. They sell tons of different rum and merch. The bar is obviously the nearest part. Both servers were very nice. They have a handful of signature drinks to choose from or a flight if you like it straight!

Ask the Community - Hilton Head Distillery

Are there good restaurants and a beach nearby? I would like to spend the day after my tasting tour.

There are both! They would also both require driving (wasn't sure if you meant within walking distance). It would definitely be a 15-20 minute drive to the beach.

    Any outside seating?

Yes! There are park like tables and benches

Do they limit the amount of alcohol you can drink?

Yes, by South Carolina law they're limited on how much they can serve you.

The location itself is absolutely beautiful, sitting right on the water with an enormous amount of outdoor seating. We decided to sit inside at the bar, which had huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water, and we were even lucky enough to spot a couple of dolphins playing nearby. The first thing I noticed when we sat down was the massive selection of oysters displayed on ice. Even better, it was happy hour and all oysters were half off, so naturally I ordered a dozen and let the bartender choose the best ones for me. Every single one was fresh and delicious. We also shared a she-crab soup that was packed with flavor and had the perfect texture. Earlier in the trip we had ordered she-crab soup somewhere else and it was watery and disappointing, so this one definitely made up for it. The restaurant was pretty quiet during the daytime, although the bartender mentioned it gets much busier at night. Before leaving, we walked outside along the dockside of the building toward the front and saw the massive covered outdoor seating area overlooking the water. It definitely feels like the kind of place that comes alive at night, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have live music as well. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Food 1 star: every time we go eat here we say that we will not be back and we seem to forget and make the same mistake again! It's almost like they put no effort into the food at all and only want to fall back on their location. Take a look at a pic of my pasta that was just soup with defrosted cheap shrimp... They asked me if I wanted a box to take it after I ate just less than a 4th of it. I had to hold in a laugh. I am used to food from the cities and comparing it to that, if that makes a difference. Potentially others rate the food here higher due to the only being able to compare it to local food. Service 3 stars: the servers seem to be in a bad mood and don't check in as often as they should for refills, etc. This review is about food and although they have other things going for them, the food is just NOT it.
