My mom and I on our my celebratory journey decided to stop at Hilton head distillery. It is open until 8 PM this evening. They have cocktails, tiki, cocktails, nonalcoholic, and snacks, partnership cocktails, as well as all their rums and you can also do a flight or purchase a bottle. We were visiting Hilton Head for the first time and a Google search of things to do in the area suggested checking out a tour at the distillery. We were greeted by the distillery cat, Hogo, so cute! Once inside the vibe is reminiscent of an upscale beach bar and the staff was warm and friendly. The tour was interesting and we enjoyed learning about the history and process of distilling rum. I've been to a few distilleries that also serve cocktails and this place is my favorite. Let's start with the positives here, their spirits are made with love and care. They are not mass produced, and are very tasty. I especially enjoyed the Atlantic bourbon, and the ghost pirate gold rum. Also found the bananas, foster rum to be unique and flavor and very smooth. I personally did not care for the toast and a coconut rum, nor did my wife. Speaking of my wife, she enjoyed her flight, especially the island, rum cream. Now I realize I'm not everybody's going to like every flavor, so to this point, I would give Hilton head distillery a five star rating. What was a little bit surprising, is that they have no kitchen with any food, food or charcuterie board type of accompaniment to the samplings. This also means, that there were no mixed drink options, so we had to basically do our sampling and head out. The establishment itself is quite nice in that you can pick up a backgammon game and spend some time just chatting and playing while sampling. The spirits made in house. Overall, a good experience, I give it a four star, would probably give it a 4 1/2 star if that was an option. read more

I went on Wednesday July 23. And it was awesome. I decided to do this on a whim, so I didn't make any type of reservation. I went in around 1 and asked the lady at the desk if they had any availablility for me to join a tour. She told me yes, they had 1 more spot on their 1:30 tour if I didn't mind waiting around for about 30 minutes. I said perfect and used that time to browse their mechandise and rum bottles. The tour was $35 and included 6 rum tastings, and a discount at the end on merchandise. The tour is roughly an hour long. They are mainly a rum distillery, but they do small batch vodka, gin and whiskey. Emily was my tour guide, and she was amazing. You can tell she is very passionate about rum and her job. I love how animated she was, and they she made the tour interesting. She is also the one who guided us through the tasting. An overall great experience, I would highly recommend everyone doing the tour at least once. read more

I had two mocktails, both absolutely delicious--proving you don't need alcohol to enjoy a great drink here! I had no idea rum could taste this good, but Hilton Head Distillery completely changed my mind. Our favorites were the E.S.D and the Island Cream--both outstanding. Beyond the drinks, the staff was so nice and hospitable, making the whole experience even better. We had a party of 3. We all ordered flights. All shots were of different sizes. Some were VERY scant in pour size. I very much enjoyed the Espresso Roast and purchased a bottle to take home with me. I had a relative staying on the island a couple weeks after our visit (Oct 25). I asked for them to bring me 2 bottles home-1 for a gift. What they brought me was NOWHERE close to what I bought. Stopped by Hilton Head Distillery on a recent trip to Hilton Head. We were hoping to try some spirits and cocktails and hang out for a bit. They were featuring their Winter Cocktail menu, which included a New Fashioned (akin to an Old fashioned but with the addition of amaretto, if you're unfamiliar). It was great! We hung out a bit but the atmosphere lends itself to be more of a taste and go than a spot to linger over delicious cocktails (bright overhead lights etc). We didn't participate but they do have distillery tours. They also, of course, have plenty of bottles for sale. Their specialty seems to be rum but they did have other spirit options as well. Overall, a nice spot to stop but wouldn't necessarily plan to spend a lot of time here. read more

Amanda, Derek and Brandon are friendly, inviting and present an experience that is unparalleled to other distilleries and tasting rooms we have visited. I highly recommend doing the 3 tastings plus a cocktail, my favorite was the blood orange gin and the mai tai cocktail which is extremely boozey. It is a small establishment but both days we went there was plenty of room, come thirsty and if you are hungry they have small plates that pair well with the alcohol. I love visiting wineries and distilleries everywhere I go. There's just something magical about trying a place's local liquors. It's almost like discovering a new layer of the destination's identity. The handcrafted cocktails at Hilton Head Distillery were just phenomenal, and strong! Emphasis on strong. I'm a big guy and after two of them I definitely was feeling a bit... loose. This place was wonderful! It is across the street from the winery, so you can make an afternoon out of it. However, be prepared because these drinks are strong! I am not a rum or whiskey person, but I decided to try the 6 neat samples anyway since they had many interesting sounding flavors. I really enjoyed the peach whiskey, the toasted cookie rum, and the Santa's secret. Any of the Platinum rums that I tried were too much for me - but to each their own lol After the tasting I got the ginger snap cocktail and WOW delicious! The shop is super cute, so many great little items for gifts, plus you can buy some of their alcohol. It was amazing! We did the tasting and there are many different rums to choose from. I tried the coconut, honeysuckle, peach, butterscotch, espresso and one more that I can't remember. The tastings were served on this adorable paddle, and in the order that you check off on your paper. It was such a delightful experience, we did not want to leave. It was so much fun talking to Matt and the other lady that was there, I forgot her name, but she is so sweet! The distillery itself is very nicely decorated, restrooms are clean, and you can tell that they take care of their facility. Had such a good time at the distillery today as a break from the beach! You taste 6 spirits for $10. My favorites were the gin and banana fosters rum. Also enjoyed the spiced rum, coconut rum and apple whiskey. In terms of COVID, this is probably one of the places I've felt mostly comfortable on the whole island in terms of safety measures (aside from social distancing on the beach). They give you hand sanitizer when you walk in. The tables are very far apart and everyone is wearing masks. Definitely worth a visit! read more

We have been vacationing in HH for years and were excited to finally visit the distillery on a rainy day. It's off the beaten path, small with dark ambiance. My husband and built our careers in the hospitality/F&B industry so we are not novices. We were delightfully surprised with the rum! Some of them a bit sweet but overall, most were smooth and complex. What threw us off was the person behind the bar. He wasn't very personable and seemed a little annoyed having to work. After about 10 minutes, he began talking politics. About how awful the last administration, was, blah, blah, blah. We tried to quickly shut it down, but it continued. It's not a conversation we wanted to have on vacation, sipping rum. Some other workers, including an older gentleman overheard and did nothing to stop it. It was clear to him that we were both annoyed, that we didn't agree and it only stopped after my husband walked out. Unfortunately, we saw him working at a brewery we went to the next day and turned around. As a business owner myself, I think it's important to keep politics away from your customers, especially at a bar and in the current climate. We will not return nor send any of our friends because of this experience regardless of political affiliation. But if you see their rum in the store, I do recommend giving it a try! read more

Was on the island for my 30th birthday and stopped at this place. It's tucked away, like most places on the island, near some other wineries so you could definitely go visit other places after. The staff was very friendly and even allowed us to taste right at the front since we couldn't go back with a baby. Everything was neatly shelved and the display was so cute we got a pic in front of it. I tasted a few of their items and the tender was very knowledgeable. This tour was a birthday gift from my wife and I really loved it. This is the first time I have ever knew there was a distillery in Hilton Head. The tour was lead by Bobby who was friendly very informative on the in and outs on how they produce their rums,vodkas, etc. The tour lasted about an hour and included several pours of the products they sell and you receive a shot glass when the tour is completed.
