Maybe I'm a bit biased because I feel like "Norm" from Cheers because when I return for another two weeks on Hilton Head (and 10-12 evenings at Cool Cats), I am greeted by cheers " Hey! the Captain is back" as the bartender on duty automatically heads to the back to bring out a cold GUINNESS for me. From the first time I stumbled upon, not into, Cool Cats lounge, several years ago, I felt like one of the locals. Even though I am much older than most there. It is tucked away in the back of a small shopping center, out of the view of tourists passing, and is the local hang out of local folks who are looking to avoid the HHI commotion. I have had to admit that the real reason I take frequent 2-week trips to Hilton head Island is to spend my evenings chatting with the great crew of bartenders and the old and new friends I meet there while sipping my Guinness. The "excuse" to go to HHI is to bicycle the many miles of paved trails during the day. COOL CATS LOUNGE has the best crew of bartenders on the Island and probably the entire "Low Country". This dive bar is the only one I know that serves a gourmet Italian dish with grated in house parmesean cheese. The soup of the day is rather amazing as well pairs perfectly with the wine. So, I actually won a gift certificate that they donated for a charity event benefiting the Hilton Head Lions Club. I thought I'd probably just give it to one of the locals as I was leaving in 2 days and didn't think I'd go but then I looked the place up and said, nope this is my kind of place. I really enjoyed it! The service was on point and the drinks were wonderful. Not gonna lie, it's dark, cold and kind of smells like satans armpits. Which I am okay with. Beer is ice cold, and the bar wench was very pleasant. The evening I was having with my minions was pleasant until we started playing music on the TouchTunes. One of my minions played a heavy song, and the bat wench promptly skipped it. Typically calling yourself "cool" means you're really "not cool" but Cool Cats Lounge is the exception to that rule. I came here following a night of boozing at a friends wedding as well as a couple drinks at the hotel. With a group of college friends all reuniting in one place, I'm pretty sure we could have had a blast in a cardboard box. A couple folks with us probably wouldn't have even noticed if we were in a cardboard box. Anyway, the staff was great with quick service even with our giant crowd. Sega on the TV if you're looking to kill some time, that is if you aren't busy jamin with the Dubstep DJ that happened to be there that night. All were very willing to engage and make new friends with islanders and tourists alike. Apparently this bar only serves locals. We walked in to a grand total of 7 people at the bar with two people behind the bar. Almost 30 minutes later, we still were not even looked at by those running the bar. Instead, the bartenders stood and talked. We gave up and resorted to the restaurant two shop fronts down, where despite there being so many patrons we could barely reach the bar, we were served in 30 seconds.
