Hilton Long Beach (Long Beach, CA): Rubber Ducks!
    Savannah R.

I stayed at the Hilton Long Beach in Long Beach, CA [701 W Ocean Blvd] from Wednesday, 05/13/26 until Thursday, 05/14/26. I stayed for only one night so I could be near the port for the México cruise trip with Carnival Cruise Lines. Upon entering the hotel, what stood out to me was the eye-grabbing display of the vibrant, colorful rubber ducks. On top of that, the plants and water fountains were a beautiful addition to the ambiance's appeal. Jillian assisted me at the check-in counter. She was hospitable, knowledgeable, and helpful. She ensured that the entire process was simple and easy. She provided a Hilton Honors brown bag filled with water bottles, Grandma's vanilla crème cookies, and Planters Salted Peanuts. What a nice way to start the stay! HIGHLIGHTS: * Emphasis on the rubber ducks culture * Complimentary, refreshing beverages and snacks in the lobby for guests: Strawberry Basil water, Cucumber Pineapple water, Iced Tea, Arnold Palmer, Mini Corn Dogs, etc. * Spacious, clean room with a gorgeous view from the 10th floor * Lovely air conditioning * Price point/value of the room - Spent a total of $187 for the night * The hotel was centrally located in the downtown area; an extremely close walk to stores/restaurants/parks/local businesses INTERESTING PART: * The "Game Room" - I was under the impression that it was an actual room full of entertaining games (i.e. board games, gaming systems) for hotel guests. It turned out to be a gaming-themed room with an ice machine and microwave for the entire floor's usage. I was internally sad because I LOVE games but the room concept was super adorable! Overall, the stay at the Hilton Long Beach exceeded expectations. I was impressed and amazed by everything, from the pleasant hotel staff and complimentary beverages and snacks to the inviting atmosphere. The value of the piece was well worth it. I highly recommend staying here.

Pre cruise hotel that was just what we needed. Nice big room with a very comfy bed. Great location to lots of restaurants. 10 minute drive the the cruise ship port. Very friendly staff.

Excellent hotel at the edge of downtown Long Beach, right between the World Trade Center and the I-710 ramp. In a 15 storey building. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Check in was a breeze. The lobby area is beautiful with free water/ice tea and coffee and snacks. Also has a large fountain filled with small rubber ducks. The rooms are big and well furnished. The views from our 13th floor room were great - all the way to downtown LA and the mountains. Rooms have refrigerators and coffee makers. The area with the ice maker has a microwave. Every floor has a different decor done by a different staff member. The bar in the lobby is good, the restaurant in the 2nd floor is excellent. The outdoor pool area on a deck on the 2nd floor is very nice. They also have a free shuttle that takes guests anywhere within a 1.5 mile radius.

Hiltons are usually a must stop. Each location has a different crew with local hospitality. Great service is what makes me feel welcome.

Let me save you! We were extremely disappointed. This hotel has so much potential to be amazing, but there were quite a few issues we couldn't overlook. 1. Check-in is at 4:00. We were told (multiple times) that we'd have a good chance at early check-in if we called the morning of. We called early and were told to swing by around noon. We did, but no rooms were available, and we were told to come back later. We returned at 2:30, still nothing. We waited until 3:40, and got in the check-in line. The wait was long, I finally spoke to someone at 4:20. They had limited rooms, and it felt like an act of God for them to accommodate our reservation, which had been fully paid months in advance. We ended up switching room types to avoid further waiting. I'm fine not getting early check-in, but being told there were no rooms at 4:15 was extremely frustrating after a long travel day with a disabled person and two small kids. 2. The AC was blasting and couldn't be adjusted. I switched it to heat hours before bed, but the warmest it would get was 60 degrees. I eventually shut it off completely, and the temperature slowly started rising. The heater was clearly broken. 3. There were 5-6 stalls in the second-floor women's restroom, and 4 of them were clogged to the brim with visible waste. No one seemed to address it. I initially thought it was just poor maintenance, but the next morning, the toilet in our room wouldn't flush either, so the hotel is clearly have a larger plumbing issue. 4. Another room in our party (we booked three) had a window stuck open about 6 inches. It wouldn't move, and there was nothing they could do. 5. In the third room, a panel for the AC/heater fell down, showing thick dust everywhere, it looked like it had never been cleaned. The filter was completely black and caked, super gross, and why did it just fall down? 6. After calling multiple times, we were told it would be no problem to get a pack and play, so we left ours at home. At check-in, we were told it was "subject to availability." The check-in process was an absolute nightmare, I'm probably understating how bad it was. They did offer us a bag with water, cookies, and peanuts as an apology for the wait, so they clearly knew it was an issue. I don't understand why they didn't have more staff or support. If you've made it this far, there were some really great things about this hotel: 1. The pool area is grea, cabanas, loungers, a bar, ping pong, cornhole, and turf for kids to play on. 2. The duck fountain in the lobby is adorable, and kids get to take a duck home. A huge win. 3. The lobby is welcoming and fairly clean, with plenty of seating and a large bar. We will 100% stay somewhere else next time. It's disappointing because this hotel could have been great with better organization and more staffing. The staff didn't seem to be having a great time either.

It used to be a little nicer but went a little downhill. I stayed here for a meeting and our meetings were held here. There's an elevator on the other side of the doors to get up to the lobby/check in area. I went all out and lugged my bag up the stairs. Rooms were decent but the windows were noticeably dirty that I couldn't see out. Catered hotel food was just okay. I don't like it when hotels try to do Mexican food, it's not even close. Bar was busy and we found if we went to the sundries/gift shop next to the check in, the drinks were much more affordable (I thanked our Finance team for that find).

Tv only showed this .... TV was broken.
    Jeanette W.

We used to do staycations here but it's going downhill. Last nights stay .... TV was broken. I tried calling from the room phone and everything kept giving me the busy signal. The phone didn't work either, and it was dirty. Picture attached. Also no face soap or body soap... only conditioner. The dresser was old and broken, see pictures below. And there was no desk lamp and the desk was old and stained. Also the window was broken and we couldn't close it. No screen so yuk. Seriously disappointed.

Do not wanna shower in here.
    Brooke D.

More like Motel .. disgusting. The room was nasty, dirty, moldy, stained, outdated, a pee bottle was seen outside the window the window itself was dirty and hard to see out of. The receptionist downstairs was rude. It's the 4th and also my birthday a horrible way to spend it here at this Hilton. We're leaving asap.

These pics are of the two front desk clerks refusing to allow me to take pics of their name tags. Shameful. Truly awful.

Well, I'd say start with competency exams first for the front desk personnel. I was there one full hour to retrieve a pair of glasses for a friend. My friend had a tracking device on her glasses, had contacted the housekeeping supervisor and was told that her red glasses would safely be resting on her desk. Seems like an easy in-out, pick-up errand, right? Well, buckle up travel heroes and let me rewind the scene of this experience. The front desk people were not sure who the housekeeping supervisor was, where said desk was located or how to find any of the above. Halfway through my lengthy time enjoying the view from the front desk, I inquired about the restroom location. After visiting the restroom, the front desk woman told me a person from housekeeping came out but I was not there. I reminded her that I had asked her where the bathroom was...(Could not make the inference or Connection...First Grade Skill). So, I asked if housekeeping person (looking for glasses) had found the glasses. Dumbfounded was the expression on front desk person's face. She answered, "I don't know!" What??? I could not believe my ears. I then heard the obvious rhetorical question come out of my mouth: "Did you ask housekeeping if they had the glasses? The surprised glance was reinforced with a big no! I was then informed that the hospitality manager might not even be there. What??? What???? Just, WHAT???? I then asked the young woman's name so my friend could follow up. She then yanked off her name badge so I couldn't take a picture of her name, and turned away from me. The man then did the same thing, but he additionally got on his walkie talkie, asking for security! AGAIN, WHAT??? I left, informed my friend and was trying to get Customer Service involved, but 30 minutes of being on their wait line put me over the edge. A woman asked me to "give her space" to check out. WHAATT??? I had been waiting for over an hour! When I said excuse me, the manager agreed that I should give her space to turn in her key...There are no words! Terrible experience all around. Imagine Giant RED warning lights surrounding this location if you EVER even think of staying here. Caution ...

What a great option for carnival cruisers out of Long Beach. This hotel has complimentary shuttle service to the pier. The hotel is really close so even if you use a shared ride it won't cost too much. We got into the property later in the afternoon. The nighttime bar service was great and they even showed a movie. The property is showing its age throughout.

From the minute my wife and I walked in to the lobby of the Hilton Long Beach- we felt welcome! There is large water feature that has rubber duck galore on them and visitors are encouraged to grab a duck of choice. The staff was super welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay worry free. We were staying here before a cruise, we hung out by the pool, had a great meal in the lobby bar, and the hotel offered a shuttle to the cruise port. Just make sure to plan ahead- the line and wait for the shuttle can get backed up.. we would stay at the Hilton Long beach when back in the area!! Highly recommend

I had the junior suite. (1439). The good, location is great. Parking next door. Small bar on ground floor. Pool, fitness, and restaurant on 2nd floor. Nice staff. Got text before I checked in (esmeralda I was curious if this is a real person or AI). They checked in wirh me the next day. I had a huge balcony loved that. Now the areas of concern. There was a hole in the balcony floor big enough to hurt if you stepped in it-why is it there i dont know. The room is dated slightly torn wallpaper frayed coach that sort of thing, balcony needs a new coat of paint and lightbulbs changed. Limited mirrors ( yeah I know but it did make getting ready interesting). The suite has a full out bed with no extra bedding in the room not even a blanket which felt odd. No microwave but there is one by ice machine (ice machine area was decorated which was cute). The bar was an interesting experience. Ordered whiskey sour and my guest said it tasted of pure lemon juice. Asked them to remake it and we waited and waited watching the bartender talk to everyone but not make our drinks. I went up and watched the bartender act like this was new to him. Even the server knew it wasn't right and didnt charge me thank you for the service. Ok all of these little things add up to not a super nice experience especially paying for a suite. I appreciate good service and it was 50/50.

Driving from the bay to Southern California was a whole trip in itself with two kids and the last thing we wanted to do was to rush the moment we got in the car and into the hotel. That being said, we decided to stay two nights prior to embarkation day. We wanted to walk in, get settled after the 7 (=/-) hour drive and relax. The hotel had everything we needed - a full kitchen, a clean and perfectly running shower, clean and comfortable beds and a wonderful view. The proximity of the hotel to the port was perfect. We originally booked because the photos on the Bonvoy app made it look like the pool was on the rooftop, which was a big reason we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, that wasn't what we expected once we arrived. We also asked about upgrading to a two-bedroom suite when we checked in, but they didn't offer it to us even though we later saw that one was available. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday, but unfortunately there wasn't much the hotel could do. A few things to know before booking: * Ice: There is only an ice machine in the lobby. If you're staying on the 5th floor, you have to go back downstairs for ice. * Rooms/common areas: The carpets are pretty old and dingy and could definitely use an upgrade. There was also a noticeable old/smoky smell in the hallway. * Pool/whirlpool: The pool area is nothing particularly special, but we were lucky enough to basically have it to ourselves because the weather was cloudy, humid, and lightly sprinkling. We specifically booked this hotel so the kids could use the pool and we could use the whirlpool, so at least we got to enjoy it. I wouldn't choose this hotel specifically for the pool, though. * Breakfast: The breakfast was probably my biggest disappointment. There were quite a few gnats flying around the food and even around the tables while we were eating. The selection was on the smaller/basic side, but we did eat our fill since it was complimentary. I just wish there had been a little more attention to the gnats, as they took away from the overall breakfast experience. There are some definite positives about the location. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance, so you have plenty of choices without having to drive. We took a nice walk last night across the bridge, caught the sunset, and had a view of the Queen Mary. We ended up choosing Chili's, but there were plenty of other options nearby, including Yard House, Hooters, Bubba Gump, and more. That was actually one of the nicer parts of our stay. Another positive was that, because of our status, they gave us a 4 PM late checkout, which was greatly appreciated since the regular checkout is noon. The location is also convenient for the Aquarium of the Pacific and for people catching a cruise near the Queen Mary. Because of that, I can understand why someone might choose this hotel for a quick overnight stay. Overall: If you need a convenient place to stay for one night or less, especially for the aquarium or a cruise, it may be perfectly fine. The location is convenient, there are lots of restaurants nearby, and we were able to make the most of our stay. But if you have a choice and are looking for a nicer hotel with better amenities, atmosphere, or breakfast, I would recommend considering an alternative hotel for a longer stay.

One detail I really appreciated and wish more hotels would incorporate: a filtered water station next to the ice machine. Location worked well for the business meetings I had the next morning. I've been a long-time Hilton Diamond member, but Marriott properties like this one are starting to pull me over on overall quality. The employees were every friendly and their attention your detail is great. The hotel is great for being a 93 year ship. Only thing I can say that was never was the bed in the room. Mattress was horrible. They really need to replace or change out the mattress. Other than this, the stay was excellent. They did have a concert the weekend of my stay so they had to accommodate parking. But they did this very well.

We had heard concert parking was horrible and decided to make it easier. We booked the room over a month in advance and there was no warning given about on-site Queen Mary parking. A day or two before our trip, we received an email saying that there would be no on-site parking for hotel guests and we'd have to be shuttled to and fro an off-site location a little over a mile away. This was pretty irritating since the entire point of booking this and spending money on a hotel room was to make parking easier. We wrote back and expressed our discontent only to be met with a "sorry but it is what it is"...just more professionally worded. We got there to park and were able to get on a shuttle. Check in was fairly smooth although we were informed we could not control the AC and so if we needed a fan to call.As soon as we got there I called for a fan because it was 90 degrees and I knew I'd need one--the fan came quickly, but I don't like that you have zero AC control...that is a hotel room perk. The room itself was larger than you'd expect from a boat, and it didn't feel dirty, but it is is desperate need of upgrades. The walls were scuffed, the tile grout brown, toilets and sinks very outdated, etc. The bed itself was very firm, but sleepable and the pillows were fine. However, the walls, or maybe the door area was paper thin and we were woken up the next morning several times starting at 6:45AM with other guests who were so loud that it felt like they were in the bed next to us...and not in a sexy way. About 90 mins before the concert, we went to the Observation Bar for drinks and food. We were seated with the manager saying their "world class service would be with us shortly"...The service was horrendous and he and I are certainly not living in the same world if what we got is world class. She took forever and never checked on us. The drink options were limited, but when we finally got them, they were OK. I also ordered the baked brie that came out cold and the sliders were only OK. We never got to have another round of drinks because it took over an hour to get the first round of drinks and 2 food items. We finally had to get up and ask for the check so as not to be late to the concert and when they asked how everything was and we told them the truth, the manager essentially just looked at us and walked away. Super helpful! I saw many other servers scurrying around and looking helpful, so I think our waitress was just terrible...and living in her own little world...probably the same one the manager is living in. Later after we had left to the concert, my husband left the concert line to run back to the hotel and put stuff in the room that we bought and his key didn't work. So we had to wait for them to fix that which made him late getting back and we missed part of the early entry we had paid extra for. We called for a late checkout the next morning because we had the Royal Brunch booked for 11am (which is check out time) and we had all of our stuff, plus our concert stuff that we had planned on running out to the car, but couldn't do because they wouldn't let us park there. We were told they had no late checkouts left and to check it with the bell service. We went down at about 10:45 to drop off our stuff with the bell service and the line was ridiculously long and not moving whatsoever. There is no way we weren't going to miss our reservation if we waited in it, so we went to the brunch with all of our bags and asked if they could give us a table where we could lay out our posters, etc. A manager of some kind, Andy, overheard this and offered to lock up our items in a closet right there--he was truly one of the only helpful people in the Queen Mary. The brunch itself was delightful. The food and service were excellent and while I would never stay over at the Queen Mary again, I would certainly attend the brunch again if we could park onsite. Finally we went out to the front to get back on the shuttle in the blazing sun and the line was in the direct sunlight and there was no shuttle in site. I asked people who had been there how long they had been waiting and they said over 20 minutes. I'm sorry, that's unacceptable. You didn't give appropriate notice that we couldn't park onsite, the line is in the sun, and now people have to wait over 20 minutes in 90 degree heat to get back to our cars? I asked the person working the little podium where the shuttle was and he said they were coming every 15 minutes. I told him that was clearly untrue and he radioed them and one showed up about 6 minutes later. I would never stay here again. Too many things went wrong to waste the money. Stay somewhere else, and just eat at the royal brunch. Also, we were offered nothing but "free parking"...

Our room was absolutely filthy. There was dust and grime buildup on all of the ledges, stains, crumbs, hair, dust, along the bed frame and in the crevices of the chair. just no attention to detail at all. we did contact the owner and opted to leave and were provided a full refund, but the kind of build up that was in that room was either from a long term stay that wasn't cleaned up properly or just terrible cleaning over and over. side note: wifi signal was not good, bedding was bare minimum and no hand towels or face cloths provided. I'm not looking to trash the owners, I just don't want anyone to be in the same situation we were, having to look for another place last minute after a long day of traveling, I was almost in tears, plus I had to pay way more to stay somewhere else because there weren't a lot of options.

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.
