Imagine stepping into a snow globe, but instead of snow, it's filled with holiday cheer! That's the Westin Hotel in Long Beach during Christmas time. The whole place sparkles with festive decorations, making it feel like you've entered a winter wonderland. One of the best things about staying here during the holidays is how peaceful it is. You won't find yourself bumping elbows with crowds, which means you can truly relax and soak in the Christmas spirit. Plus, the area feels super safe, so you can wander around without a worry. And let's not forget the location! You're surrounded by yummy eats and delightful drinks, perfect for indulging in holiday treats. And for a touch of maritime magic, the Queen Mary is just around the corner, adding an extra sprinkle of enchantment to your stay. The staff are incredibly hospitable, making you feel like you're part of their holiday family. It's a truly magical experience!

Over all, a good hotel in a great location. Well kept up with very helpful staff. Room sizes were good and were clean. A bit odd that the bathroom don't have a vent. The tub was also slow to drain. Not a huge deal but added to some inconvenience. I had a discounted rate due to attending for a conference. I was toying with the idea of staying another night. By that time the group rate had expired. Odd thing was...the new advertised standard rate was near identical to the conference rate. It seems the conference organizers "discount rate" wasn't much of a discount at all. I'm not a fan of price games. I'm also not a fan of huge parking fees. $49 for parking. A near by hotel had parking for just $10, granted it wasn't nearly as good of a hotel. The pool and jacuzzi were nice. Always a little busy but manageable. Hotel restaurant was to be expected. Good food but over priced, which seems typical of most hotel restaurants. Over all a good hotel with some downsides.

Beautiful high-rise hotel near the water in Long Beach. We were going on a cruise so we decided to stay at the hotel the night before. It was very close to the cruise ship and the surrounding parking garages. We were gonna park at the hotel for our cruise however they were charging $50 a day for parking. There is a parking garage less than a half mile away for $16 a day. The hotel lobby is beautiful and check-in was a breeze. We even got a free upgrade to a high floor room with a beach view. The room was clean and spacious. My only complaint is that it is very dated.

Modern Comfort Meets Coastal Calm -- A True Westin Gem The Westin Long Beach was everything I hoped for in a stay -- clean, elevated, and effortlessly comfortable. Whether you're in town for business, a conference, or just soaking up some coastal SoCal vibes, this hotel delivers across the board. The highlights: Rooms are sleek and comfortable, with the signature Westin touches: heavenly beds, crisp linens, and blackout curtains that actually work. Mine had a partial ocean view and a desk setup perfect for remote work. The lobby is beautiful and inviting, with lots of natural light and modern design that makes it feel like more than just a place to pass through. Service was excellent -- from the valet team to the front desk, everyone I encountered was professional, friendly, and ready to help (early check-in? No problem). Location can't be beat -- walkable to Shoreline Village, Pike Outlets, and plenty of great restaurants and bars. It's also a quick Uber or stroll to the convention center if you're in town for work. The outdoor pool area was a surprise favorite -- peaceful, well-kept, and a great place to relax after a long day. Fitness center was better than most -- spacious, clean, and stocked with everything from free weights to Pelotons. Bonus points: The lobby bar had a great cocktail selection and small bites, perfect for unwinding without leaving the hotel. Fast elevators. IYKYK. Bottom line: The Westin Long Beach strikes that perfect balance of luxury and approachability. It's polished without being pretentious, and the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome. Would absolutely stay again -- and recommend it without hesitation.

From our room on the 12th floor, we have a clear view of the Queen Mary and the Lighthouse, and watching sunrises and sunsets from this vantage point never gets old. The hotel is also situated at the heart of Downtown Long Beach, which provides the perfect home base for a walking exploration of downtown. There are so many events going on in this vibrant city and there is something cute and surprising at every corner. The lobby renovation injected new life into the grand scale of the space. The room was clean and well-equipped, but the on-demand feature of the TV did not work. We turned the air conditioning off as soon as we got into the room because it's not really necessary with the pleasant weather. The mattress was comfortable, but the comforter was thick and heavy, almost like a weighted blanket. My wife loved it, but it was a bit too heavy for me. The pillows were airy and soft. We had breakfast at the Navy Proof, and the service was friendly and attentive. The omelets my wife and I ordered were decent, but I thought the egg was overcooked a bit. The worst part of this hotel is the parking. The layout is confusing and the space is cramped. It's too easy to scrape the car around a tight corner if you're not careful, and judging from all the scratch marks on the wall, many vehicles were damaged this way.

We stayed here due to a family wedding so we had a great room rate and check in was friendly and smooth. The room was adequate as it has most of the amenities you need like a safe, closet, ironing board, iron, refrigerator, desk, towel racks, drawers for your clothes, a one bottle of complimentary water. However, we were missing a computer chair for the desk and the only other chair was not suitable to sit at the computer. We called special express and they brought up a computer chair and extra bottles of water. We asked why we were only given one bottle of water and they said we can refill our bottles at the dispenser located next to the ice machine (which was temporarily out of order) but we needed another bottle since there were two of us. I guess they are trying to reuse plastic water bottles to fill up at the dispenser which is fine. The room does need to have more outlets to plug in our electric devices, as there are none near the bed. Other than that, nice view, good service from housekeeping. Please note no microwave in the room. We ate breakfast at the Navy Proof Food and Spirits, which is located in the beautiful and spacious hotel lobby and the food and service was great. As far as the fitness center is concerned, it is a good sized area located off the elevator on the 5th floor. There are plenty of machines and my favorite props such as stability ball, free weights and bosu ball, mats, small rollers, as well as a water dispensing machine, sanitary wipes, towels as well as fresh fruit after your workout. Being able to stay fit and healthy is important while I travel. There is valet and paid parking at the hotel. $45 for valet and $40 for self-parking. All in all, our stay was what we expected and I am happy they have a restaurant on site and fitness center. They just need to upgrade a few things in their rooms like the outlets for electronic devices as well as making sure there are at least 2 bottles of water and a computer chair at the desk. Also they have a shower/bath combo in room which is a plus

I'm a big fan of Westins in general. However this Westin location is probably my least favorite. The rooms are clean but look like something out of a Bruce Willis movie in the 90s. They definitely need to be remodeled. The gym is not up to Westin standards in my opinion and is probably one of the most disappointing hotel gyms I've ever been to. The pool was not the designer's brightest idea, both literally and figuratively. You see, the building itself is crescent shaped. The pool, on the 5th floor is nuzzled in that crescent, meaning you don't get as much sunlight as you should throughout the day. There are some positives, the biggest being the location. There's so much to do, see, eat, and drink throughout Downtown Long Beach and Shoreline Village. You can even take the water taxi during summer season to the other side of Long Beach from Shoreline. Also, the lobby has actually been remodeled and it's modern and spacious. Lastly, employees are helpful and nice.

I stayed here the night of July 26 for an event nearby, and honestly, it was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff was rude and condescending. I didn't catch the guy's name, but his name tag said he loves Beyoncé or something, but the attitude was unprofessional. We weren't allowed to check in until well after the listed 3 PM time, and were told that check-in is "at their discretion," which makes no sense. If you're going to price-gouge during a sold-out weekend, at least be prepared. But the worst part? The brown shower water. We got back to the room around 10 PM, ready to clean up and sleep, only to find the shower floor had a black sludge. When we turned the water on to rinse it, brown water came out. I called the front desk repeatedly for 45 minutes before anyone finally answered. I was told there were no other rooms and that I could wait for maintenance. It was nearly midnight at this point, and I was already undressed, so I had no choice but to shower in it. It was disgusting. I have no idea if it was rust, sewage backup, or what ..but no one at the hotel seemed to care. I booked this hotel expecting at least basic cleanliness and decency. I couldn't even take a proper shower, and no one made an effort to make it right. Wouldn't stay here again, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Decent hotel to stay at before a cruise! Lobby is very nice and we had the pleasure of having Kasia checking us in. They were so lovely and really hyped up my Marriott status. We also appreciated their restaurant recommendations. Rooms were spacious and our views were quite nice. Appreciated the free specialty coffee in the morning thanks to Marriott status. The gym looked fine and unfortunately the pool was closed during our stay.

What a fabulous hotel. The staff, the rooms, the location - everything was great. In the heart of downtown Long Beach which is a little bit colorful - this hotel is comfortable, nice spacious rooms, a decent restaurant for food service and convenient underground parking. They even take pets and accommodated our puppy!! We will be staying again on our next visit.

From the hotel I was able to walk to downtown and explore cute shops! The staff was also amazing! They were quick and thoughtful with the check-in/check-out process. When we had an issue with the TV, they came over quickly and helped us troubleshoot it. They also were helpful when I realized I forgot my toothbrush. Very much high-end hotel experience. I was also able to study in the lounge which was quiet and peaceful. I will say, I didn't exactly love the sliding door in the bathroom. It doesn't lock (or if it did, I wasn't able to figure it out) so there's not much privacy. I've been seeing this sliding bathroom door trend among many hotels, so this isn't a negative towards this specific hotel. Overall, it was a great experience and I would stay again! The Pike refers to a shopping and entertainment area within this city block. So it's real convenient to restaurants, outlets, a movie theatre, and ALLLL the Long Beach Harbor and Shoreline Village offer: shopping, a arcade with carousel, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Aquatic Park, Long Beach Pier, LB Boat Rentals and Wheel Fun Rentals. Not to mention a really nice, easy walkway along the shoreline with postcard views of the Queen Mary. Hyatt Regency is great of you're attending a conference at the convention center and can write off biz expenses. Otherwise, I find the parking fees, even with in/out privileges for guest, to be steep($44/nt self; $49/nt valet), I addition to the "Destination Fee" ($30) charged at Hyatt Regency. NOW, that being said, sometimes they have package deals, so these fees can be absorbed. Compare it to Hyatt Centric The Pike, where you will be parking at a Long Beach City Public Parking structure next-door to the Hyatt Centric(separate review), NOT having in/out privileges, unless you pay each time you leave, but paying $24/day and no "Destination Fee", and I think Hyatt Centric makes more sense for pedestrian explorers. Since both hotels are within the same walking areas, choose what works best for you, but those are my strongest considerations for choosing at which Hyatt in downtown LB I'll be staying. Hubs doesn't give a rip. LOL Anywho, here is ALSO why Hyatt Centric feels "homier" to me. First and foremost - THE STAFF!!!! Jorge, Dir. of Operations, reached out ahead of my arrival(standard), but continued to be of assistance when I engaged with him about my stay and what our celebrations for the New Year would be. Very thoughtful. Emma was friendly and very helpful in checking us in and making sure I received all my Hyatt Member amenities and perks. David, Front Office Manager, followed up to see that our stay was a successful and happy one and to further offer any assistance for future stays. Throughout our stay, we were greeted by staff cheerfully, but they never imposed. Honestly, remember when Hyatt use to boast about "the Hyatt Touch"? THIS is what they meant. They may not refer to that in marketing, but Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach seems to be one property that is still very committed to this idea. I have been staying at this property since it was an Avia. Hyatt purchased the property in 2011 and began renovations in 2012, which I believe finished in 2020, just in time for a pandemic to hit. We came back in 2021 to beautiful new decor that really features the sights synonymous to Long Beach, but especially the harbor and nautical history. Cute details like hallway lights resembling portholes, or some Queen Mary history lessons in the elevator halls, highlighting her use during WWII. The wallpaper in the rooms, has a focus wall of an aerial shot of the shipping containers at the Port of LB, and the carpet coordinates a flow of that same idea. Yeeesssss..., in some areas the decor is already looking a bit worn, but I believe its a pretty popular property so I don't mind because it's all familiar, comfortable and there are no problems with anything broken. Amenities! I ADORE the roof poolside patio for city scapes and views of the Queen Mary during any season. I'm not typically a pool user, but have dipped during especially hot weather when staycationing here. Plenty of room to spread out! I find the rooms really comfy, and plenty big, the shower and bathroom fabulous! A cozy robe, efficiency fridge, Keurig with pods, extra blankets and pillows and motion sensor lights on the bed frame, assisting your way to a middle of the night bathroom sesh. Also available: gym, water stations, poolside cabanas(for a fee), poolside lounge chairs and seasonal rooftop bar, a business center, free wi-fi throughout and meeting/banquet rooms. They also have a really cute outside patio on the ground floor, adjacent to the lobby, that the banquet rooms can open onto featuring a HUGE chess board! Each of our stays at Hyatt Centric The Pike LB has had a special memory. I'm already planning my next stay. HC@TPLB makes a PERFECT location for a long Catalina Island Day trip! Catalina Express is a short, easy, maybe 5min, walk and then coming back to a cozy room after a Catalina excursion is the icing on the cake. I plan on booking for the night before, to catch the earliest(calmest seas are early morning) boat the next AM, then returning to our room after we return on the last boat back, around 8pm. Whatever your plans are for seeing Long Beach, check into Hyatt Centric at The Pike Long Beach for an easy, comfortable stay. Cheers! "CC"

After housekeeping cleared a used teacup from my room earlier in the day, it wasn't replaced...something I'd expect as a basic standard at a hotel of this caliber. I called to request a new one and ended up waiting 21 minutes before calling back for the status on it. I was then told that they would follow up on it and I'd receive an update on the status. 7 more minutes go by - no cup, NO UPDATE. My room, a single king, was clean and in good shape. There is a large TV, desk area, adequate closet, and mini-fridge with Keurig machine in the room. The iron is of high quality and perfect for pressing my clothes for my meetings. The bathroom is very nice with a Toto Washlet that are common in Japan. The room's thermostat, however, is in Centigrade so do brush up on your metric system! My only real criticism was that the room safe did not open all the way as the closet door blocked its full opening. The top floor has a nice sitting area to relax and there is a quaint workout room and pool area. There is also a sauna which I did not use. Upon checking out, I had a nice conversation with Yogi, the owner, who told me a little about the place and how it was named. Overall, my stay at the Hotel Mai was a wonderful one and I would certainly go back the next time I need to stay in Long Beach!

Very close to LGB if you're arriving and/or departing from there and central to nearby cities. Great places to eat all around + near to Wholefoods. I stayed during a busy eventful weekend and it seemed that I was provided the last available room in the hotel that hadn't been used in who knows how long. The room was overall dusty and smelled of old linens. The bed was uncomfortable. Should've brought it up to the staff but I was traveling with my infant. Wouldn't really recommend to anyone

Unlike most other locations, they do not sent out a digital room key, because they bait you to their front desk to pay their mandatory parking fees and to collect a drop tag for your vehicle first. The parking lot is just a very basic space, nothing special and unprotected. They did not let us know that they only clean rooms every 3 days, until we inquired why we had not received clean towels for the next day. Very vague information is given and it felt quite frustrating. The breakfast was ok. We have never been fans of powdered reconstituted egg products which we have come across with Hampton Inn's in the past. This location actually did provide what appeared to be a make your own sausage egg muffin situation, which included round whole eggs. This was the only good part of our stay. We will not return. We travel a lot and our childhood hometown was this area. It didn't feel welcoming nor, like home. They also need to tone down the extremely obnoxious smell in their lobby. It smelled like a Comet cleanser factory. Not a great scent especially if you have allergies.

Service: pretty slow (fortunately, we were in no rush) 5. Staff: most seem noticeably disgruntled / unmotivated / unhappy 6. Ship walkabout: wonderful / a fascinating time capsule 7. Fantastic artwork / historical photographs on display throughout. 8. Huge ballroom / event rooms / very quaint wedding chapel. 9. Period costumes, decor, memorabilia. 10. Step back in time on a 100-year old grand luxury ocean liner. Tips: 1. Make an advance reservation for restaurants - we saw walk-ins wait almost an hour. 2. Allow at least 2 hours (minimum) to explore the ship after your meal. 3. Lots of stairs between decks / huge ship / lots of walking. 4. Make sure your phone is fully charged - hundreds of photo opps. Summary: We came on a fairly quiet weekday, but still restaurant reservations are highly recommended. The food was top-notch. Will return to eat - a real treat. Dropped a star only because many of the staff seemed somewhat unfriendly, unmotivated, disgruntled. Otherwise, the ship is stunningly beautiful and the experience quite profound.

If you like old fashioned vintage style hotels, The Queen Mary hotel may be worth checking out. Thin walls and dim lights. For a discounted price around $143-$144 a night, you can hear everyone talking next door/down the hall or snoring at night. Yes, you will get interrupted as a light sleeper during your sleep time. Expect ship horns blowing around 10am/3pm/6pm. Carnival cruise ships are nearby as well. Water dripping sounds outside the windows and sometimes the bathroom toilet. Other than that, the stay included clean sheets/puffy pillows, lots of drawers for storage items, good closet space with mirrors behind the closet doors, etc. Employees and front desk staffs are helpful, but it's a different type feeling/not your most polished service. Room gets cold at times. $39 per night guest parking in the lot was a bit pricey. Foods at restaurants aren't cheap, but there's a good selection to choose from. As a hotel guest, you can wander around as desired. There's an old gym with checkered floorings onboard too. For Queen Mary experiences, it's actually much better and the tour guides are well trained. There's plenty to see and you can check out local onsite events. Tea time is available on Sundays. Exciting and adventurous if it's your first visit. Engine room, museum, explore the shops, various decks, bar/restaurants. We've been here 3 times, but this was our very first hotel stay. The Queen Mary is historic and a well known landmark in Long Beach, California. It's a great place to take photos and create memories. Note, there are plenty of stairways, hallways, etc., enough to give you a good walking experience to get to all the unique places. It's a decent place to check out, but for overnight stays, I would be a bit hesitant about revisiting.

Our room was absolutely filthy. There was dust and grime buildup on all of the ledges, stains, crumbs, hair, dust, along the bed frame and in the crevices of the chair. just no attention to detail at all. we did contact the owner and opted to leave and were provided a full refund, but the kind of build up that was in that room was either from a long term stay that wasn't cleaned up properly or just terrible cleaning over and over. side note: wifi signal was not good, bedding was bare minimum and no hand towels or face cloths provided. I'm not looking to trash the owners, I just don't want anyone to be in the same situation we were, having to look for another place last minute after a long day of traveling, I was almost in tears, plus I had to pay way more to stay somewhere else because there weren't a lot of options.

So rather than pay an astronomical fee for the privilege of proximity, I did a quick search of the area. There are plenty of options, but many of them just seemed suspect. The I came across the Varden. Definitely a boutique hotel, but definitely worth checking out. The rooms are typically small with barely room for a bed, a partial desk and a small bathroom area. But the room was extremely clean, the fixtures and bed were new and cool and for one person, really perfect. Particularly since other than sleeping and checking emails, what else do you really need? Well, for starters you need to feel safe. And this place does a great job of securing the facility at night, but you don't feel you're in a bad neighborhood anyway. You also might like to enjoy a welcoming attitude, and the staff and place has plenty of that. The young staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Being forewarned that the property has 3 levels and no elevator is important, but honestly, it's not a tough climb to floor 3. And as a testament at how great the staff are, they wouldn't take no, and they carried my bags to my 3rd floor room. Since I was there for meetings, I needed to press my clothes, so a call to the front desk resulted in a brand new Iron and Board appearing at my room within minutes. And being welcomed by a reception with snacks, wine and drinks between 5:00 - 7:00 everyday, is just super nice. They also do a continental breakfast from 6:00-9:00 daily. They have a hip space right behind the registration area for these treats so it's easy to walk through on your way in/out of the property. And best of all the price per night was less than 1/2 of what those big chain hotels were charging. And I was less than 4 blocks (and a very nice walk past lots of local stores/restaurants to give me a feel for the area) from the Convention Center. For all these reasons, if you're in Long Beach solo, I would highly recommend you check out the Varden.
