I recently visited Himalayan Sono, a Nepalese restaurant, and had a mixed experience overall. The ambiance was definitely a highlight--the environment felt warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. For food, I started with the lentil soup and dumpling (momo) combo. The lentil soup was decent, but the momos were a bit disappointing. They lacked the flavor and juiciness I was expecting, and didn't really stand out. I also tried the chicken curry, which was okay--nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. One thing I noticed is that the menu and flavors felt more similar to Indian cuisine than authentic Nepalese food. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, it didn't quite deliver the distinct experience I was hoping for. Overall, it's a nice place in terms of atmosphere and service, but the food didn't fully impress me.

I took a day trip with my daughter and son back in March 2026. We went to Connecticut and stumbled across this Gem. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. The waiters were attentive and pleasant. The food was amazing, very authentic, super fresh and so delish. From one dish to the next my taste buds were tantalized and we all were very happy we stumbled upon this place. After dinner we look around their shop, located in the front of the restaurant and displayed so beautifully in cases. My daughter and I bought authentic medallions brought back from Nepal. The best part is the owner came to our table and was so personable explaining the meaning behind the medallions we bought. We had great conversation about where we came from and how we came to eat at his restaurant. He shared he has another restaurant in Queens that he first opened several years ago before he opened this restaurant in Connecticut. Update: June 2026 My brother came to visit to spend time with the family. I wanted to take them to Connecticut, this time we took a ferry. We originally had planned to go to another restaurant, but decided to go back this time around with my brother and his family. When we were seated, I noticed it was the same waitress that took our order the last time we were there in March. It was nice that she recognized me from months before. My brother and his family enjoyed the restaurant and the food . I also brought my husband and my other son who loved the food as well. The ambience is beautiful, there was a live band playing, and they sounded awesome. I definitely recommend stopping by this restaurant if you're ever in the area. You will not be disappointed. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. We will definitely be coming back and taking more friends and family here.

Amazing food and even better service! We tried the chicken momos and the lunch special lamb thali and Himalayan fried noodles. The thali is massive and hits the spot with its variety of curries and dal. If you're craving authentic street-style noodles that taste like India, these are it. Just a heads-up: the momos take a little extra time to come out, but they're worth the wait. The ambiance is great and the lunch specials are a steal, though general pricing is a bit on the higher side

Five out of five momos and stir-fried beef-chicken-egg noodles. Wow!!! Got a seat outside on the street and people-watched the whole Sono art fair while feasting on a divine set of momos. Would come here every week if I lived nearby. Shoutout to Duke who was so helpful with our ordering and very kind. 5 stars!!!

The dining in experience was lovely. We were welcomed right in and sat next to a large speaker. The music was great, but the speaker was so blaring loud that I could not hear the person across the table from me speaking. The server happily let us move to another open table so we could enjoy our meal better. Speaking of the music, it really was a nice touch to the dinner. I expected to hear something more traditional but it was all acoustic covers of well known music. The meal was fabulous, everything came out just right and didn't take long to come out. I first tried Himalaya for take out, and while the order was fine, I had some issues with the phone call. They wouldn't accept a coupon I had, but worse, the girl on the phone repeated every detail of my credit card (number, exp, cvc) out loud. I would appreciate that changing or better yet, let me just pay when I pick it up.

I couldn't wait to try this new addition to the heart of South Norwalk. Himalaya Sono is a Nepalese style restaurant with live music as you dine. My favorite part was the live music. The duo that night were such a delight to listen to. They sang beautifully and covered a variety of classics. Although the service was quick, the food was a hit or miss. To start we ordered the momos, which were a type dumpling that each came filled with a different protein/stuffing. The chicken momo was my favorite. Another appetizer we enjoyed was the chicken chili. Always a favorite for me and wished it was offered as an entree. For an entree we ordered a plate of The lamb curry to share and unfortunately we were disappointed. We found that it lacked taste. I wish the tables were bigger too. It was such a tight squeeze for just one plate and a couple drinks. They have a lovely outdoor area that I would like to experience this summer as outdoor dining is always a plus.

Such a gem in SoNo! Not only were the food and drinks delicious, but the staff was incredibly accommodating. We had made a reservation and got stuck in some traffic, knowing that Himalaya closes for a mid-day break at 3:30. We managed to get there before they closed but were still dining during the break, as was one other group, and they didn't make us feel rushed or forgotten about. Truly a level of service you don't see too often anymore! The momo set was delicious, and we enjoyed the sauces to pair with them. Great drinks as well, and the seafood sizzler was a generous portion. The dining room was beautiful, and they had a nice outdoor area as well. We can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!

Absolutely coming back. I stopped in solo for dinner before a show, and I'm still thinking about this place. The staff were warm, the space was peaceful, and the food was phenomenal. I had the mushroom chili appetizer and the spicy vegetable thali -- everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the kitchen actually cares about what they're making. Had to take it to go because of timing, and the manager/owner personally checked in to make sure it wasn't because something was wrong. It wasn't -- this place is friggin' awesome. Just had a show to catch. I'll be back soon when I can sit down properly and enjoy it the way it deserves. Highly recommend.

    Cocktail was superb!!

We're local Norwalk residents so we decided to try the recently opened Himalayan Sono and wow, they did not disappoint. Anthony (owner) and Mohan (waiter) were very attentive, friendly and helpful with introducing us to their menu. The restaurant had a nice open space for indoor or outdoor dining, live music on Saturday evening that had casual cool vibe. The food, cocktails and service were absolutely amazing !! Cocktails weren't watered down like other places. We wanted strong drinks and that's what they gave us. The chicken dumplings and sauce were outstanding. We're glad we dined here and are planning to come back for more. We highly recommend Himalayan Sono.

I went here for my birthday and I want to say it's my new favorite restaurant! The food was absolutely amazing, we had a prawn starter, a vegetable curry, and a shrimp noodle dish and un-friggin-believable!!! The service was fantastic, the staff are so kind, the chef came out and he's so humble, they had live music in the background, very serene, they came out with a fanfare to sing happy birthday to me! If you are celebrating anything, including life itself, GO HERE! You will love it!

We came here bc our train was stuck and south Norwalk was the last stop the train could go. Honestly super glad it did stop because we got to try Himalaya Sono. A must get are the momos (chicken is the best) make sure you get it with extra sauce. We also ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was also super tasty. The garlic naan is prob one of the best textured naans I've had (super fluffy but also a little crisp but not burnt) Every single person who helped us were all super nice.

The food types are similar but offer different spice/flavor profiles. They have a large section of noodles, soup, and rice. A veggie section with various combos of cauliflower, potatoes, onion, bamboo, blackened peas, mustard greens, and spices. Some of the Indian dishes: paneer butter masala, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala. Some of the appetizers include crispy tofu, fried soybeans, a Nepali snack platter with marinated meat, goat, beef tripe, sliced beef tongue, fried jerky, duck. They also have a momo section. We had their famous chicken lollipops (essentially fried chicken) and it was crispy and spicy (in a good way). We also had sadeko (marinated or tossed) bacon, which was rich and tender. I had one of their Nepali cocktails, which was pleasantly spicy (the chatpata aam, made with tequila, spicy chatpatey syrup, and mango puree). Service was attentive. Inside is cozy, lots of dark wood and colorful flags. They also often have entertainment in the evening, so I would love to return to hear some live music while trying more Nepali cuisine.

The first time that I came here was about 3 years ago with a few friends and we liked the food - the beef tongue was different and super memorable and the jhol momos were just swimming in flavorful curry. Made me want to come back again. Fast-forward three years later, I feel like things have changed significantly. Or maybe I didn't catch them at their best, but I came with another group of friends and I just felt overall disappointed with the food, as did my friends who were excited to try Himalayan food for the first time. I had the goat dhat bhat and the small amount of meat served in aesthetically pleasing bowls to mask the portion was disappointing--and this was not a lunch special or anything. I mainly got a big bone and realistically got about 2-3 small bites of actual meat, while there was an overwhelming amount of rice and veggies. The momos also tasted like they were pre-made and heated or steamed up again because the dough was definitely a little rough. Overall, this experience was a meh for me. I think it is a social staple for many Nepalese and Tibetans in the area, and just for that.

The aloo dam was tasty and flavourful, and it would have paired wonderfully with rice or some sort of bread. The veg momos were steaming hot and fresh. The sauces that came with them added a lot of flavour: I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed the momos as much without them. The veg thali came with rice, greens, dal, cauliflower gravy, aloo dam, kheer and pickles. The dal was the standout item. It was my first time trying Tibetan butter tea, and the server warned me that it would be a little salty. The tea had a lovely nutty flavour and thin consistency. I enjoyed it from the perspective of novelty, but I'm not sure if I'll get it again. The server was extremely sweet and service was prompt. The ambience was very pretty, with Tibetan bric a brack and art on the walls. The music was also very soothing. One caveat however is that the food is very, very light and simple, and probably not one immediately thinks of as being "restaurant food" - it has a homemade quality to it. Portions are quite small, and prices are relatively high. Overall, I will return and likely try the chowmein and thukpa.
