Walking through to the bathroom the place is clearly a mess and needs a deep cleaning. It is so dirty I would not ever go back. The food is not a draw either as it had no flavor or taste. I've been a regular takeout customer since the early 2000's, back in Norwalk and now in Fairfield. It is my go-to meal when I need a fortifying meal (I'm slightly anemic) and the lamb saag (spinach) with their green salad always makes me feel better-- the combination of lamb and spinach and the lemon in the salad dressing seems to help with my need for iron. read more

My plate deserves 4 stars. Good food. Good for lunch, Super delicious, at least for me. It did taste sweet and slightly different to other currys I have had. PRICEY though. I gave less stars due to the limited attention, as I was never offered a drink, and I had to request a napkin to clean my own table. But to be fair, the cook, was the waiter and the checkout person. Bonani is my go-to place for when I'm craving some Indian food, or when I'm just too lazy to cook. Call in an order, pick it up on my way home, and BAM dinner is served! I always get the Baingon Bhartha, which is an eggplant dish-- smoky spicy sooo good. I also pick a chicken dish, it's hit-or-miss, sometimes the chicken can be dry, but at least there's plenty of sauce. Rice always comes with; I also get the paratha (a flat, buttery bread) or aloo paratha (stuffed with potatoes, for when I'm really hungry) to round out my meal. It's nothing fancy, and maybe not the absolute best Indian food, but I get a good solid meal here. Overall it's a 3-star place, but I'll give a extra star for the bangin' Baingon Bhartha. The fellas behind the counter are all nice too. I think of this as a takeout place, but when you first walk in there is a little nice-sized dining area. I've never seen anyone actually sitting there, I'm guessing if you're eating here you'd order from the counter & then bring to a table? read more

Such a laid back, quick spot to grab some food. Taj for some reason opens at 5pm on weekend, but we were hungry at 4pm. Couldn't wait, so tried here. If you're looking for all out Indian flavors, this isn't the place. However if your hungry and in a pinch, this will do. The staff is very friendly, and food is OK (not blow your mind but OK). I'm sorry to say but this was probably the worst Indian food I've ever had. Should've listened to the Yelp reviews but was thinking "how bad can it bad?" ... BAD. The chicken tikka was dry and there was barely any sauce. It also had a weird sickly, sweetness to it. In fact, all the dishes had a very sweet undertone. The samosa chat was awful. The tamarind sauce tasted like maraschino cherry juice and the naan in it looked like it has seen better days. The chickpeas were raw. And the yogurt on top looked curdled. I also ordered the raita (curdled, too) and couldn't even stomach it...looked like a sketchy brown off white mess. The only item that was fine was the paratha bread. Thankfully, I ordered the lunch special so it was an arm and a leg but will not order from here again. I don't like giving one stars but this was so not good. read more

I ate here for the first time a little while ago with my family and I cannot wait to order some again. I'm fairly new to Indian food but everything I had was delicious! Went here with the wife to grab some lunch because we were craving Indian food. Long story short: great variety, reasonably priced and authentic Indian food that you can customize to your taste. To start with, the establishment is small. It is more of a delivery/takeout place that has a few tables if you want to quickly sit down and eat. We ordered veggie samosas and minced meat samosas to start. Both were perfectly crispy and spiced just right. We added a chicken tikka masala (hot) to share, along with an order of garlic naan. The garlic naan was phenomenal: perfectly fluffy with a great balance of garlic. The chicken tikka masala was great. After reading reviews warning about the bland "mild" spice option, I feel the "hot" was a good way to go. I thought it was the perfectly balanced spice option, however the wife thought it was a tad bit hot but still enjoyed it. If you are looking for a no-frills Indian spot that is easy-in/easy-out, then this is the spot for you. They also offer $7 lunch deals M-F, so I've heard it can get quite busy but is worth. We will definitely be back soon to grab one of those. read more

I ate food here in 2019, Just created a YELP account hence writing this review now. One fine afternoon my girlfriend and I were craving for some spicy Indian food, we stopped by this restaurant and ordered Chole Bhature, Chicken Biryani, and some other food. The food here was stale. The Chicken Biryani could have been at least a week old, the rice was stale, the chicken was dry and cold from inside. Chole Bhature was bland. The bhathure were stinking of cold oil. I could smell that the chole were heated in a microwave straight out of the freezer. The mint chutney, ruined the experience more as it was definitely stale. I refused to pay for the disgusting food that I had which costed me $50. read more

This place was extremely disappointing. The quality of the chicken in the Tikka Masala was so poor that I was hesitant to give it to our dog. Tikka Masala is a dish that is typically very moist, melt-in-your-mouth tender, chicken cooked in a clay pot. I've never experienced chewy, dry Tikka Masala until I got it from here. The sauce was also thin, watery, and bland. Actually, the sauce was the worst I've ever had - including packaged sauces from supermarkets. The final blow was the price: $15 for a small container of Tikka Masala, no rice or nan (maybe 7 of chicken and mostly the terrible sauce). NEVER again! read more

First, let me say, having worked in the restaurant industry in the past, every kitchen has it's own way of preparing a dish. It's never the same at any two eateries. I have had Mulligatawny soup many times in different places. It was never red, as it was here. This was more like tomato soup. It was tasty, but I would never order again. I made it ABUNDANTLY clear that I wanted my main dish, a dish that the owner said was very similar to sag paneer, extremely spicy. What I rec'd was MUCH less than what I asked for. Same dish at Cormandel in Orange or Baingan in Shelton was not only better tasting, but spicy to the max. Disclaimer: This is the guy who's cooking introduced me to Indian food almost 15 years ago. Needless to say, I've been hooked ever since. Over the years I've eaten Indian food in various parts of the country and although some have been very good, no one comes close to the home-cooked style and spice balance that Bonani has mastered. I have introduced many of my Indian coworkers to Bonani, and some of them are now also hooked. They tell me it's more like the homemade food they're used to than your typical fancy Indian restaurant food. The Chicken Patiala has become one of my favorite dishes, and I like it Spicy. Order it Medium spicy and it will be flavorful, with a kick. Spicy can set you on fire. I also like the Chicken Makhni here. This is mainly a take out joint in a tiny strip mall, so don't expect any special ambiance. I'm not deducting any stars for that, as the food stands on it's own for me. This is a good place to calm your cravings for Indian food. I had two veggie samosas that came out quite quickly, the chicken vindaloo, sufficiently sized garlic naan, and a mango lassi. Bonani is decent Indian food in a super-convenient location - not too far off 15 (a road i am on way too often i guess). They seem to be setup more for take-out than dining in though, but no big deal. It has never been a long wait when we order from them, the Pallok Paneer and Chana Masala have been very good, and they have excellent breads too. Place is clean enough, service is fast and friendly. Not a fancy sit-down white table cloth kind of place. The entry to the plaza here isnt really too great if it's during rush hour traffic and you are crossing a lane of oncoming traffic it can take a while to get in or out of here, but its worth the wait. read more

Delicious food! I recommend the Chicken Vindaloo- very spicy but delicious. The appetizer assortment is also great! Everything I've had from here is good, and they're always friendly. The Chicken Tikka Masala was a little too mild for my liking, but if you're looking for something mild it's a good option. When my boyfriend and I order take out, we'll usually just get one order of the Chicken Vindaloo and split it because it's so much food that it's enough for both of us! Coming from a house where my mom played the kitchen like a fine instrument to produce symphonies of beautiful, delicious South Asian curries, I may be a bit biased... BUT, I know what decent South Asian restaurant fare is like - this ain't it. I remember getting the chicken bhiryani, and the rice tasted a bit rubbery, the spices were not distributed evenly, and overall the flavors were just pretty meh. When I need a fix for some decent Indian food close to home, Bonani is a really decent choice. Not a 5 star place, but they do a good version of Palak Paneer and Bhindi Masala, some of my favorites. Take-out or sit in, they are very fast in making the meals, so you don't have to wait to long. Just got takeout from here tonight - had a craving for Indian and decided on Bonani over Bangalore (in the traffic circle) as it's a good deal cheaper. I ordered the mutter paneer with garlic naan and cucumber raita on the side. Also picked up an order of veggie biryani for my mom. Well, the moms really liked everything! And I thought it was all decent as well - definitely fresh and my mutter paneer was still PIPING hot when I got home. But there was just no spice! None at all! No kick, no nothing. I'm used to having my lips burn and tingle as I eat Indian food, and that just didn't happen here. There was flavor - it's not like the food was unseasoned. There just wasn't that really good heat that makes you want/need to scoop your food up with fluffy garlic naan. :( I think another reviewer mentioned that you need to specify what spiciness level you'd like? Maybe I should have done that. Still, I thought the go-to level of Indian food was at least a little above bland. I'd be willing to eat here again though if I made sure to specify that I want some spice included. read more

Its been hard for me to find a good Indian spot. Not much of a eat in restaurant, but I was really impressed with the food. They serve Phaal, which is a really spicy curry. The meat samosas were very well prepared. The naan was also really good. Don't expect much if you go to eat in. Small place with a few tables. But the quality of the food made up for everything else. The Phaal was very spicy, so I would stay away if you don't like spicy food. They have mild spiced curries as well for people who have mild tastebuds. Freshly made, fresh ingredients... better than expected. Need to try it again and ask for a bit more spice because their default is a little bland but the flavors are there... just needs some oomph. Chicken Tikka cube size a bit large for my taste. Prefer a bit smaller pieces for better sauce/flavor to meat ratio. Samosas (meat filled) pretty tasty and cripsy. Pallok Paneer was very fresh and perfect richness, not too much. Give it a shot, but boost the spice. Will probably upgrade rating next time. Bonani's chef's butter chicken is amazing, as all of the other dishes are (pallok poneer, navaratna kurma, chaat), but really ... stop in to try the butter chicken. There's a M-F luncheon special where you can get a good portion of butter chicken served along with beautifully fragrant rice and onion chutney with some paratha. Perfection! This place is my JAM ! Not only is heir restaurant tiny, cozy and smells heavenly, but their food is awesome as well. Their mango lassi is so tart and tasty, their chai tea is wonderful as well. Being a vegetarian, it's so comforting to find home made, real ingredient indian dishes made here, all always meeting expectation and always for a decent price. The food lacked the distinctive spices and heat I have come to love in Indian food. I decided to give it a try and was dreadfully disappointed. The chicken tika masala usually a very flavorful dish tasted bland and dull with no flavors truly present. The chicken lollipops were both over and undercooked. The outsides were tough and hard and the inside was very pink and almost raw. The samosas (mincemeat) were ok but still lackluster. The worst thing was the Naan. I ordered a garlic Naan and it was so underflavoref I wondered if I had misordered a plain Naan. I will not be ordering from here again. These are very basic staples that I grew up enjoying and I feel I would have been better off with jarred sauce at home. read more

Aside from a few misfires (my Tikka was well overcooked a few weeks ago), Bonani has served consistently above-average Indian food for a few years now. People are extremely friendly on the phone and when picking up your order. This is my Indian take-out. They have excellent Nan breads as well as papadom. My usual dish is Chicken Biriyani, though I've enjoyed the curry dishes. Though it's primarily take-out, there is a nice seating area that even includes an mini Indian market in front of the counter with imported curry paste, snacks, etc. The mango lassies are perfect compliment to any spicy dish.
