This is my favorite place to grab a lunch special in Norwalk. Whether the lamb Roger josh or the goat curry. Always reliable and authentic tastes. Friendly staff with welcoming smiles. Nice upgraded eating area, too. Just missing real plates if you're staying and they're excess use of styrofoam grated on my environmentally conscious nerves. I have been patronizing this place on and off for the better part of 20 years. It has only been in my most recent visits that I have found the quality of the food has been less than satisfactory. On our recent take away we recieved soupy butter chicken, a soupy rogonjosh lamb and rice that tasted like a Uncle Ben's. I do not know of there is a supply issue and ingredients are being stretched or something else. In any event, this is likely or last visit. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to get take out when I come home to visit my family - that being said the quality is not the same when the younger group of people are cooking. Food was simple but good and very flavorful. Service was average but servers are cordial. Ambience was interesting and different from Indian restaurants but it is mainly takeout although we dined in. My only complaint would be that the korma sauce with my lamb was a bit broken. Although I wasn't that surprised considering lamb is pretty fatty. read more

Excellent food, but equally important is the kindness of the staff there. We've got a kid with severe food allergies, and it's hard to eat out. This restaurant has never hesitated to double check every dish for me. They even provided me with a list of everything my kid could eat there, without me asking. The food really is wonderful. In my search for local take-out, I recently had a really underwhelming experience with Bonani. Indian curries are consistent and simple to make, it's something you can't screw up too badly, so I am especially harsh when I find something so...meh. Anyway, I recently had takeout from here on a day where my brother and I both wanted lunch while at the office, and decided this was the closest Indian takeout (this is pre-COVID-19). We chose Bonani because my past experience (I went and sat in about 7 years ago) was good. It wasn't a negative experience. However, we both ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and it was just blah. It lacked that punch of spices, was somewhat watery, and didn't really even taste like the real thing. Now, I know this type of dish is not even truly Indian food, but it's an easy curry to make, and takes a lot of effort to screw up. In this case, it was as if someone not knowing what they were doing cooked the dish. It's like me as an Italian guy trying my hand at cooking and Indian curry--it would taste fine, but it wouldn't be what the likes of a true Indian restaurant might cook up. While I have friends that swear by Bonani, I have to say I may never go back. read more

I've been getting take out from Bonani for almost 4 years now and I've never been disappointed. When I ate meat/dairy, I loved their chicken tikka masala and naan bread. Both were super flavorful, creamy and delicious. You literally can't go wrong. Since going vegan, I enjoy their chana masala, aloo gobi and dahl saag (spinach lentils). All three dishes are excellent but the chana is my favorite. I love how tender the chickpeas are and the savory sauce. Great place for takeout. read more

I have been coming here since they opened over 30 years ago. Visiting my hometown today I had to stop in to get some. First place I ever ate Pakastain- Indian food and hooked me for life. Still same owner and not much has changed. Let me tell you they still make the best aloo paratha ever! It's literally stuffed w potatoes and spiced perfectly, must eat w some mango chutney. Being a vegetarian I can only comment on their veggie dishes and they are always delicious and prepared fresh. I highly recommend for take - out when in the area. read more

Disappointed. I NEEDED Indian food after an awful day at work and our favorite place was closed. Husband did me a solid and drove to the next nearest Indian restaurant. I should have had a frozen pizza. The chicken tikka masala was rubbery and sweet. His palak paner was more like a cream of spinach soup. They got 2 stars because their naan was good, but what good is naan when you have nothing to accompany it. Lesson learned. read more

Got delivery from this place and it was honestly gross. Butter chicken sauce was greasy and separated, chicken tikka masala sauce was watery and flavorless, chicken itself had a rubbery texture. I don't like writing negative reviews but this food was just poor quality =/ read more

We've done quite a few take out orders here. This is pretty much my go-to Indian place, though I wish they did delivery. I've had a bunch of different things, though I haven't settled on any favorites other than the garlic naan. The Chicken Tikka Masala is a solid choice as always. A lot of the other dishes I've had have a bit more oil than I'd like (and I'm okay with a little bit, these had a lot), but there are a couple that were very good. I'll probably keep trying more things from their menu and see what else stands out. read more

Most of the food at this restaurant is very good but two nights ago I ordered lamb vindaloo, for the second time it was obvious that the lamb and gravy were not cooked together. The lamb was again chewy. As a former chef I know that they simply added gravy to the meat, heated it up and sent it out. I know the restaurant doesn't like to "run out" but I would rather hear this than suffer through a poor quality dinner. Hopefully they will read this and change. read more

The food is great and hey it's called take-out kitchen, so take it out:) Add an additional 10 minutes to the wait time when ordering at dinner time. If they say 20 minutes, make it 30. Best Indian in Norwalk. We order out from Bonani often. I love the Makhni and Masala. My fiance the Fahl and Vindaloo. The garlic nan is also a staple. All dishes come with a hearty side of Basmati rice. Very friendly service as well. Limited seating so order ahead and enjoy at home. read more

Too expensive for what they offer. Buying chicken here for $15 is a joke. I would recommend that you go to Stew Leonard's instead for a much better Indian chicken curry for a much cheaper price. I've heard great things about this place but after ordering, I was less than impressed. I walked in on Saturday and the place was empty. Theres only one or two tables so pretty much only for take out. I ordered the Chilli Chicken and Chicken Samosa. Food was done in about 5 minutes (strange). The Chicken Samosa lacked flavor and the chicken was very dry. The chilli chicken looked awful and the tasted just as bad. Pretty much a layer of oil sitting on the top; chicken was overcooked. Very average. Not impressed with overall dinner for four. The appetizers were excellent and breads were awesome, but main dishes were below average. I was told chicken would be boneless and it was bony grisly and dry. Cream sauces tasted like they were straight out of a can of cream of celery soup from Cambel's with a teaspoon of saffron. Chutneys were too spicy and papanaa which was way too peppery. Service was ok. I'm still irked by the fact I was told to my face the chicken tandoori was boneless and when I got out home it was bony dry and grisly. I would NOT return. read more

Great take out! We ordered chicken tikka masala which is always our go to. The chicken is tender and perfectly cooked, and the sauce is flavorful but not overpowering. We also ordered the vegetarian avial malabar. This is potatoes, carrots, yams, green bananas, eggplant and squash in medium spiced coconut yogurt sauce. The sauce was on the tart side and I didn't really like it on its own but with the tikka masala sauce over it it was very good. I did not like the green bananas at all. I wouldn't get this particular dish again. The rice was buttery and more than enough for two people. The naan was fluffy and two huge pieces per order. None of the food was oily or overpowering. They have a very small selection of Indian spices and groceries in the restaurant. I would definitely order from here again! read more

Unfortunately, I cannot cook Indian cuisine, but fortunately we live around the corner from one of the best indian places I've ever eaten from. He stumbled on this place, nestled in our local strip mall, just after we moved into our new house this past spring. You walk in and there are a few tables (must be for show, because people are never eating in) and you see the whole kitchen. I've been a loyal customer for years. I love their food. I was so excited they now have online ordering so I had to give it a try. I went ahead and ordered the regular. When my wife got there it turned out they didn't have two things they had on the menu, then it was like bummer but ok. She gets home and it turns out the menu had me ordering the wrong thing. So I called up and explained. The kid that answered said ok well make you the right thing come and get it and it will be on us don't worry about it. I get there and he goes that will be $15. I said you told me it would be free. He goes I can't do that.. so I drove 20 minutes back and the kid lied to me. I HATE liars and hate bad customer service. To be a good customer for over 10 years and then be screwed the first time there's an issue I will not be going back! read more

Indian food has become a staple for take-out for me because I have recently turned vegan. So far, every other Indian spot I've been to has been accommodating to that. When I told them I wanted no milk in my meal, they told me don't worry it wasn't milk, it was coconut yogurt. They asked me if it was an allergy and I said yes because I had a feeling they were lying and suddenly the dish I wanted to order DID have milk in it. My second issue was the packaging the food came in. By the time I got to where I was going, the curry had spilled all over the bag, thank goodness it didn't leak onto the seat. Last, the flavor wasn't there. I tried Veda's Indian on Wesport Ave and the flavors were SOOO GOOD! This place? Bleh. Also, the fritters were definitely prepackaged and overly greasy. Not even edible. The fritters from Veda? I could eat them as a meal they were so good. read more
