I found this place yesterday while I was in San Antonio. Seems to be a pretty well-stocked store. The employees were friendly, and I found everything that I was looking for at a reasonable price. They let me use their washroom even though a sign indicated it was for employees only. They were out of paper towels. Great local South Asian international market for your cooking and dining needs. As with many international food stores, this one is no different, offering overseas packaged imports, some fresh food items, various grains / legumes, and specialty sauces galore. The space is highly efficient despite not having a large amount of square footage, creating towering but narrow aisles that patrons can explore. They don't seem to be short on any particular option of food items; in fact, they seem to stock multiple brands of everything, so you might want to set aside some time to look at the different options available. This store happens to be very close to the Medical Center, so it's a great option if you happen to live in the area. read more

Crooks Please make sure you buy stuff you are 100% sure. I was at the location for a particular kind of rice. I paid for it and I realized that it was the wrong kind. I asked the lady on the counter that I got the wrong one , she said go get the right one. But unfortunately they were out of stock. So I said I just need a refund as this is not what I was looking for. Surprisingly they said sorry we cannot even though we had not picked up the other product from their counter. I had to literally leave that rice and leave without money. They are just money grabbers. Please I won't recommend them to anyone. Overall they are dirty also. read more

My mom and I wandered in here yesterday morning and were greeted warmly by the staff. They had a wide variety of groceries, in particular lots of fresh vegetables! The staff were knowledgeable about the items in their store and even shared with us that they get their fresh shipments of vegetables on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. My mom and I were able to purchase several vegetables (daikon, taro root, squash) and a variety of lentils for a great price. Thank you!! read more

I've been here a few time and it's always been great. Their produce specials run mostly on Fridays. That was the best time to buy groceries from my experience. I live on the other side of town but I try to make it here at least 1-2 times a month. It's also a great place to stock up on herbs and spices. We were able to find spices I couldn't find anywhere else. The staff are friendly and the place is always busy restocking shelves. I guess I never really come at the peak of business but one day I came and their produce section was pretty much already empty. Poor me! It is worth coming here for their produce section. The prices are more economical than a supermarket. It's worth a look to see what you can find especially in produce. read more

They always are stocked up. One place to find all Indian grocery you want. They also have a rewards program which works very well if you visit this store everytime. But sometimes I have seen expired stock in shelfs. I notified the management and they have take them off the sale but it repeated. They should give attention to the stock. This is such a cool little store, specializing in Indian, Hindu, and Nepalese goods. They have all the weird spices that I've never heard of, imported straight from Delhi. They've got a produce section, that could really use some work. The greens seem rather wilted, and not too appetizing. They've got a weird side room to sell things that you can't eat- incense holders, knickknack holders, bangles, you name it. I enjoy the fact that they've got a variety of foods that you'll never find anywhere else. Their selection of premade foods is pretty good, and I always enjoy going through their bottled drinks- they've always got really weird flavors. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly. Apparently, this small Indian grocer has renamed itself as Himalayan Bazar. They offer a fairly good selection of Indian groceries, as well some house wares and puja (Hindu prayer) supplies. The staff greeted us and were friendly when we checked out. The store is small, so if you know what you need, you can be in-and-out in a matter of minutes. One major annoyance is that many of the items are not marked with price tags. It makes me reticent to buy items that have no stated price because I wonder if I am being charged the actual price or some arbitrary amount. Also, like many small groceries, the produce could have been fresher. It is possible that we came on the last day between deliveries, but then again, perhaps they just do not focus on keeping the best produce available. This is a great place to buy inexpensive spices, rice, tea, and lentils. Since these are staples in many Indian pantries, the turnover of these items is fairly quick and you can feel confident that you are not purchasing items that have been sitting on the shelves for a long time. If you live near by this grocery, it is a good option; but there are many other Indian groceries in the vicinity that have a better selection- in particular Ali Baba. read more

I used to come here under the old management, and I would agree that it was only good for non-perisable goods. But recently, I was not able to go to HEB and decided to stop by and I was pleasantly surprised! It has not only moved a few doors down to a bigger location, but the produce was also very fresh. I bought Turiaya (Chinese Squash). Paid almost $5.00. I came home and wife told me that turiya is bitter, So I went back to the store and they refused to take it back and replace with something else. Very bad service. I never had this issue in the past. Manpasand is better place to shop. read more

This is my go-to Indian grocery store. The management has switched hands a couple of times, but the store personnel have stayed the same and the store itself has become much better. So first off, this is a Nepali-Hindu-tinged store. In other words, you will not find kababs/lamb or goat meat or any non vegetarian items. Not even in the pre-cooked frozen section. This is a good thing, because the store does not spend space and effort into a butcher section - and can cater to those desi vegans who will not shop from a store which sells meat on the same premises. This is kind of a big deal to a lot of customers. Ok, so the store itself is very well stocked. They have supplies of fresh vegetables coming in on Tuesdays. So if you need karela/kundru(tindora)/kumro/lonka, then Tuesday or Wednesday is a good day to swing by. Their frozen section is very comprehensive with every sort of paratha that you can ever ask for (ok maybe not EVERY sort). They have a decent section of mithais (sweets). Their spice section is well laid out. The dry goods and groceries are also very well stocked. If you need slightly esoteric items such as Kewra essence and rose-water (crucial to a Lucknavi Biriyani), then this place has you covered. The staff are very friendly, efficient and helpful. The only reason that I am not giving them a full 5 stars is because they stopped stocking Mukhorochak Chanachur. Which is, as every Bangali knows, the king of chanchurs. Since March of 2013, new management has taken over. The previous owners were not very responsible. After the change,I was very happy with the customers service. Most products DO have a price marking. I asked about the ones that didn't (I was looking at some ghee), and the owners were very friendly about it. They have very cute indian outfits and little knick knacks. Since my son goes to college, it is very convenient for me to buy the frozen Indian food (such as the naan and samosas) so that he can enjoy them without having me there.
